Dancing in the rain

Entire Work

Work Text

It was a rainy day on the Hermitcraft server.
Scar was searching for Grian.
He asked a few hermits if they had seen him, but they all said no.
He was starting to get worried.
He messaged Grian a fifth time.

Goodtimewithscar: where u at g

Goodtimewithscar: I’m bored

Goodtimewithscar: pls?

Goodtimewithscar: g where r youuuuuuu

Goodtimewithscar: I’m starting to get worried

Goodtimewithscar: u ok?

Grian: I’m fine!!

Grian: sry my communicator was muted

Grian: did u need me?

Goodtimewithscar: I miss you :(

Grian: I’ll send my coordinates

Scar watched as a couple of coordinates popped up on his screen.
He grabbed a coat to try and combat the rain, flying towards the coordinates.
He was confused to find Grian sitting out in the rain. He was wearing a red rain jacket, his strawberry blonde hair peeking out from underneath the hood. He was sitting on the ledge of a cliff.
“Songbird!” Scar said.
Grian smiled at Scar, “Hi, Scar!”
Scar kissed him on the cheek, “What are you doing out in the rain? Trying to get sick?”
Grian giggled, “No, actually, I just like the rain.”
“You are strange, I must say.”
“It’s relaxing. I never got to see rain when I was with the watchers. It’s nice when I get to see it again.”
“You’re just going to get sick.”
“I rarely get sick.”
“You’ve managed it before.”
“Shut up.”
Scar sat next to Grian. The rain had slowed down from a downpour.
Grian lifted one of his wings over Scars head, shielding him from the rain.
Scar raised an eyebrow at him, “And why are you still in the rain?”
“I have a hood on my jacket. You were getting soaked.”
“You’re still getting wet!” Scar exclaimed, “You’re a tropical parrot hybrid, you don't deal with the cold well!”
“I have more layers on than you.”
“You’re going to get sick.”
“Oh well,” Grian shrugged and grinned at Scar.
Scar tried to act mad at Grian, but Grian’s smile melted him and he ended up giving him a smile.
They sat in silence for a few minutes.
Scar suddenly sighed, “Alright, get up.”
Grian shot him an alarmed look, “What? Why?”
“You’re gonna dance with me.”
“Nonono, I’m not a dancer-”
“Too bad, up you get.”
Grian huffed in frustration as Scar pulled him to his feet, “I’m not dancing.”
“I have to dance alone?” Scar gave him a look that could only be described as absolute begging.
Grian sighed, “You’re lucky I love you enough to do this.”
Scar grinned, “I’m the luckiest man alive.”
“Darn right you are. I don’t know how to do this, by the way.”
“Don’t worry, just follow my movements.”
Grian’s face was bright red as Scar pulled Grian towards him.
Grian wasn’t lying when he said he wasn’t a dancer, but Scar was surprised with how quickly he caught on and moved in sync with Scar.
Scar was actually the first to stumble, slipping in mud. Grian grabbed the sleeve of his jacket, giggling and pulling Scar upright.
“You good?” He asked.
“Stupid mud,” Scar grumbled, “Making me look bad.”
Grian giggled before pulling Scar towards him and kissing him.
Scar gladly returned the gesture. When the two pulled apart, Scar had a devious look in his eyes.
“What’re you up to-” Grian was cut off by Scar suddenly pushing him into a mud puddle.
“Scar!” Grian screeched. Scar laughed before Grian grabbed his wrist and pulled him into the mud next to him.
“Hey!” Scar exclaimed, laughing. He knew he deserved this.
“You got mud in my wings! Do you know how long it’s going to take to clean them?” Grian said, failing to keep a small smile off of his face.
“I’ll help you,” Scar sighed.
The rain started to pick up speed.
“We should probably head inside,” Grian said, standing up and holding a hand out to Scar.
“Race you back?” Scar grinned.
“I can't fly! My wings are drenched and they’re caked with mud,” Grian scowled, “You can go ahead. I’ll catch up.”
“I’m not leaving you alone. I guess we’re walking. Come on,” Scar smiled and pulled Grian along with him.
Grian laughed, following Scar through the rain. After five minutes, the mountains of Boatem appeared over the horizon.
Scar pulled Grian into the swaggon.
“I’m gonna get your stuff all wet!” Grian exclaimed.
“Does it seem like I care? We’re getting you out of the rain,” Scar said.
He handed Grian a towel, who started to dry himself off. He got himself a towel, taking off his rain jacket and drying off his hair.
Grian shivered, “It’s cold in here.”
“It’s cold because you’re soaking wet from the rain,” Scar said.
Grian huffed, continuing to try and dry off his wings.
After they were both fairly dry, Scar sat on the floor, getting a confused look from Grian.
“Are you gonna let me help you with your wings or what?” He asked, patting the spot on the floor in front of him, signaling for Grian to sit down.
“You don’t have to-” Grian started.
“Nope, I said I’d help you. Sit down,” Scar said.
Grian sat down in front of him, his red, yellow, and blue wings extended for Scar to help clean them.
Scar quickly got to work, getting rid of the mud with a wet washcloth. Grian was chirping quietly as Scar straightened out the feathers on his wings, practically melting into the touch.
Once he finished up the back, Scar moved to be sitting in front of Grian, starting to fix the front. Grian helped him out occasionally, straightening out the feathers he could reach.
Grian was straightening out a few when he felt Scar stop.
He looked up at him, confused, to find Scar was just… looking at him.
“You okay?” Grian asked in concern.
“I love you so much,” Scar said.
“Where did that come from?” Grian asked, his face going bright red.
Scar shrugged, “I don’t know, I just… you know that, right?”
“Know what?” Grian asked.
“That I love you. I love you more than anything,” Scar said.
“I love you too, Scar,” Grian said, smiling at Scar, “You’re the best thing that ever happened to me.”
Scar pulled Grian towards him and kissed him.
Knowing how far the two had come was amazing to Scar.
They both used to be bathing in self loathing for similar reasons. Scar hated his vex half, while Grian hated his watcher half. They both helped the other feel loved, feel appreciated, just as they were.
Scar would always treasure their relationship in his heart.
He really was the luckiest man alive.
