"Lip!"A yell from downstairs jolts him awake.He sits up in bed, rubbing the sleep from his eyes before jumping down and throwing on some clothes.As he's finishing putting his shirt on, Fiona is in the doorway."Someone's downstairs for you." She says as she leaves the room.Lip grabs his phone and heads downstairs."Hey!"Karen emerges from the living room to greet him.Lip's eyes light up at the sight of his girlfriend."Hi!" He kisses Karen before joining her in the living room."Where have you been?" She asks as she sits on the couch."Asleep." He replies."No stupid, I meant like this past week," Karen explains."Fiona and I made a bet. I'll go back to school if she does. She told me she was going to get her GED but I told her that wasn't the deal so she's taking classes. So have I and they're fucking difficult they're kicking my ass.Karen rolls her eyes as she puts her arm around Lip."So that means you don't have time to hang out with me?" She asks curiously."Well, it's Saturday. So yeah, I do." Lip replies"Well, good. Because we're going to buy baby stuff.Lip rolls his eyes, trying to have it go unnoticed."I'll see you later." Lip calls.Fiona looks around the corner from the kitchen."Where you going?" She calls over."To get baby stuff, you know. Don't want to end up like my deadbeat father." He responds.Fiona nods accordingly.Lip and Karen walk to the L and head to the local baby store.They look at everything from car seats to baby bottles to baby clothes."Hey, what about this one?" Karen asks sometime later as they're looking at bottle warmers they can barely afford.Lip drags himself over to Karen. "Sure, I like that one." He responds without even looking at it.Karen puts it down and pushes past Lip. "You didn't even look at it!"Lip sighs, annoyance in it."What is going on with you!?" Karen asks, obviously annoyed at Lip's disinterest in the subject.Lip pauses for a moment, unsure if he wants to tell Karen what's really going on."Sorry. I haven't been feeling well. I didn't mean to take it out on you." Lip confesses.Karen pulls him in for a hug. Lip embraces it, letting himself melt into it without hesitation.She breaks from the embrace. "It's okay. But you should tell me these things." She replies."I know, I'm sorry." Lip responds.They carry on shopping, Lip trailing behind as Karen looks for the important stuff."I think that's all we need for now. You wanna go now?" Karen asks Lip.She looks over to a half-asleep Lip standing beside her."C'mon." She grabs his hand and leads him to the cash registers."How can you afford this stuff anyways?" He asks while she pays."My mom is very excited about the baby and gave me money for the essentials." She explains.Karen finishes paying and gives Lip one bag while she holds the other. They walk to the L and head home.Lip falls asleep on Karen's shoulder on the way home. Karen questions Lip's health but doesn't mention it to him."Hey, this is our stop." She nudges him with her shoulder as the train stops.Lip sits up, clearing his throat and standing up.They walk off the train with their stuff. They head to Karen's place to drop off the bags."Hi, Mom!" Karen greets her mother as they walk in the front door."Hi sweetie, hi Lip." Sheila greets them both as they make their way inside.Lip gives a small wave as they enter Karen's house."We'll be upstairs." Karen mentions to her mother as she and Lip make their way up the steps.Karen closes the door to her bedroom once she and Lip are inside. She takes the bag from Lip and walks over to the window to set the two bags down."Well, I'd say that was a pretty successful trip wouldn't you?" She asks Lip without turning to face him.Upon turning around she sees Lip lying on her bed half asleep."Hey, you okay?" She asks quickly.Lip nods and lets his eyes drift shut.Karen Joins him on her bed. She lies next to him resting her head on his shoulder.Karen figures Lip will just fall asleep so she pulls out her phone to text some friends."Hey." She shakes Lip awake around 20 minutes later.Lip takes an audible breath in, opening his eyes slowly."You were snoring.""Was I?" He asks through a laugh.Karen nods."Sorry.""You think the baby's gonna snore?" He asks a second later."Depends, if it's yours." Karen shoots back.Lip gives her a look."Just kidding. I know it's yours." Karen replies quickly.Lip smiles, relaxing once again."But seriously get up. I'm bored."Lip props himself up on his elbows as he slides his phone out of his pocket to check it."Shit, I've gotta go, it's 5:30 I promised Ian I'd help him with some ROTC stuff."Lip clambers off Karen's bed and grabs his stuff to leave.He turns back around before leaving the room. "I love you, bye." He kisses Karen quickly before leaving to head back home.
