Work Text
Alexander Hamilton was working. He was so absorbed in his work, in fact, that he had not noticed it was raining outside. Hard. He did not notice until the thunder clapped and the lighting flashed, and by then- what could he do then? - it was too late. He should have had a flashback, but he was home alone-All it took is one "but", and Alex knew the harder you fought the worse it was.And then-
The hurricane whipped. Dozens crowded under a building that could collapse at any moment. Panic spreading. The smell of gunshots in the air. Rain crashing down, thunder and lightning shaking the building, each another step towards death.
Death, which Alex would have welcomed by now.If only he could get up from where he was currently curled (he wasn't sure where; it didn't matter, because-)
He was back in that god awful place, and it was his turn to use the landline to telephone someone-
he called his-
friend Ned-
who he didn't realize wasn't Ned, but one John Laurens.~~~~~Laurens was at work when he got the call.He was immediately worried, because Alexander never called during his work hours.He picked up immediately, of course."Where are you? The storm, th-the storm, y-you have to get s-somewhere safe!" Alex's voice stuttered out. He sounded scared- panicked."Alex?" He responded, then looked out the window.It was raining.Alex told him about what happened when it rains- everything, in excruciating detail.He needed to get home. Now."John, y-you have t-to get out!!" Alex was practically screaming. "Alex, I'm going home," John said."NO!!" Alex screamed for real, and then promptly hung up- probably panicking.John got in the car, and all he could think about was get to Alex, he is panicking and he is in danger- and he barely felt his car skid across the road, and get knocked out. ~~~~~
As soon as Alex got the call placed, he begged Ned to get somewhere safe. He wasn't able to before, but now he could.
But Ned didn't pick up. John did. His sweet, beautiful John, and that was all he could remember right now. He only heard John's voice, not what he was saying. In all honesty, the memory of John was slipping, slipping, and he tried to tell John to stay away, to find shelter and leave while he still could, but he doesn't think it came out that way. Because J- tells him he's coming home. And Alex tries to tell him it's too dangerous, but he doesn't respond, and Alex sobs.
He sobs as the rain clashes, the building slowly falling apart, water seeping in. He might drown at any moment.
He would welcome it.He gets another call, from an unknown number. John has died.Alex doesn't even hear how he died, because he knows it was because of the storm, knows it- and he couldn't save John, he couldn't save Next, and now he is here.
A pathetic excuse of a man.
He hates it, he hates it all, all. He-
is drowning, drowning, running-
doesn't recognize the faces, although he know he should-
grabs the rope, and maybe he could finally drown-
~~~~~By the time Lafayette comes in, it's too late.Alexander Hamilton and John Laurens are dead.
