Work Text
Karson stared up at the spinning ceiling fan from his bed. Watching it go round and round brought back memories of him and his brother Drake when they were younger. They became orphans at a young age and didn’t really last long in foster care. By the age of ten, the two of them were surviving all on their own. If you knew how to hustle and swindle, being homeless in Las Vegas wasn’t the worst thing in the world. The last time Karson had seen Drake was when they were seventeen. Now, six years later, they hadn’t spoken a word to each other since. Living on the street, Karson had come to expect the unexpected. He had seen many relationships fall apart over the simplest things but never would have guess that him and Drake would have had a falling out over a woman. While Karson viewed Amanda as a mother figure, Drake wanted to be the romantic and hold her love in a different way.Shaking the memories and ghosts from his head, Karson hopped up from the bed and took a long gulp of his beer from the nightstand table. He hated going to work every day where he did nothing but tolerate eight long hours of thinking about the mistakes of the past. He quickly shook off the thoughts once more, took one more swig, and walked to the dresser to grab his work badge.Several minutes later, Karson finally walked out the door to his small one-bedroom apartment. He looked around to see the neighborhood kids running around enjoying their Saturday. A joy he experienced very differently than they did. He turned and unlocked his old grey Honda Accord before getting in. As he slid into the driver seat, he looked at all the empty beer bottles and immediately felt shame.Cranking the car up first, Karson backed into the street and began his journey. He passed several familiar stops, his favorite being the “Hella Hops” which he stopped at every night after work. He found it quite hard to live in the present, especially after all he and Drake had done. His mind lingered on the thoughts while he continued his drive.Roughly fifteen minutes later, he pulled into his normal parking spot at work. He didn’t make much money at all but as long as he could pay for a roof over his head and a bottle for his mind, he didn’t really care what he was paid. With such little work experience on record, breaking down boxes for a shipping company was the best he could easily find. One deep sigh later, Karson got out the vehicle and walked the dreaded sidewalk toward the building. As he walked in the door, he scanned his badge on the kiosk and turned to say hello to Gary, the weekend security guard. He nodded over at the security station but quickly noticed that Gary wasn’t there. He found this odd since Gary hadn’t missed a day in the three years Karson had worked there. Figuring he may have just been feeling under the weather, Karson walked past the security station and toward the shipping stations. As he arrived at his normal workstation, he took a look over the table. His box cutter and tape gun were there on the usual shelf, but the small cutout picture of Amanda was no longer next to his computer. He began to look around in search of someone to question but all the other stations seemed empty. Karson found this extremely odd since he usually came in at the same time or shortly after most people. The more he glanced around, he started to feel anxious. There was no one around anywhere.Suddenly a noise came from about six stations over. Karson jerked his eyes to meet the sound. A small stack of boxes had fallen from the table and Karson’s heart sank a little. He reached over and grabbed his box cutter tightly. He knew his coworker Preston was supposed to be here by now, so he reached down with his free hand, and pulled a cellphone from his pocket. The phone lit up with a blue glow as he began to swipe it unlocked. Before even finishing his swipe code, below the phone, he could see the picture of Amanda in a small trashcan. With his interest piqued, he placed the phone on his station and bent down to retrieve the photo. Her curly blond hair, glowing pale skin, and bright blue eyes always made her seem angelic to him. It hurt his heart more than he expected to see the picture laying inside the can. The moment his right hand grabbed the picture, he heard another sound. He jerked his head upward just in time to see the top of a bald head ducking down behind a station. Karson stood straight up and began to yell over.“Hey, who’s th--"Karson slowly opened his eyes, confused and temporarily blinded. His vision was a blur, but he could make out some shapes and colors. There was a ringing in his ears and a terrible pain on the back of his head. He attempted to reach up to rub the spot but found his hand unable to move. He painfully shook his head for a moment until his vision came back to him.As his eyes cleared and he took in the sight, his jaw dropped. He was in a small room with only a battery powered construction lamp for a light source. The walls were lined with old mattresses all around except for where the door exiting was. Hanging from the roof were short metal chains. As his eyes followed down the chain, he saw the man connected to them, hanging in front of one of the mattresses. The familiar face was passed out and had blood dripping from several spots on his face. Karson was dumbfounded at the sight of seeing his brother Drake. The twins had never looked quite alike considering Karson had red hair paired with green eyes, while Drake had grey hair with brown eyes. Drake was slightly taller and also dressed as though he was in some sort of gothic cult or motorcycle gang, which Karson always thought fitting for his personality.Karson began to stand up quickly but the restraints on him stopped him before he could remember they were on. The force jerked him to his bottom on the ground. He looked down to his wrist and feet only to see similar chains to what contained Drake, though the ones on Drake appeared much thicker and secured from the roof. Looking back and forth around the room, Karson noted that the floor was covered in plastic. His stomach began to sink.“DRAKE! DRAKE! WAKE THE FUCK UP MAN!” he shouted over hoping to wake his brother. There was slight movement from Drake but nothing conscious. In a panic, Karson began yanking on the chains holding him. It wouldn’t budge so he followed the chain with his eyes, leading only a few feet away. Shaking his head side to side, he knew he wouldn’t be strong enough to force himself free. He began to shout for Drake again but heard footsteps coming toward the door and snapped his mouth shut. He slid his side closer to his right and rubbed against his pocket. That pocket was empty, so he quickly shifted to the other side. The door shot up and two men walked into the room eyeing Karson and Drake down. The man closest to Drake was bald, had a brown goatee, fingers covered in big gold rings, and a leather jacket that was likely too small for him as it seemed to be bursting at the seams. The bald man had a large bowie type knife in his right hand and a small pistol in a holster on his waist. The man closer to Karson looked extremely familiar. He wore his black hair in the style of a mullet, had one missing front tooth, dark stubble all over his face, and scar down the side of his neck. The outfit he wore was reminiscent of a wrestler from years back. He wore a thin black wife beater under an oversized coat with fur lining the neck, making his scar barely visible. His pants seemed to be dark blue or black, but Karson was unsure, but he absolutely knew they were made of spandex. Before Karson had time to speak with them, the bald man approached Drake and slid the blade across the side of his face. Karson yelled to tell him to stop but before he could, the familiar face turned and immediately backhanded Karson the moment sound came from his mouth. Drake let out a loud groan of pain as his eyes fluttered for a moment and began to open. The slap to Karson’s face hurt and made him feel like his blood was beginning to boil.“I think it’d be in everyone’s best interest to simmer down boy. This been coming for ya two boys for a long time.” The mullet man said to them as he reached into his spandex pocket and pulled out a cell phone. He checked it for a moment and shoved it back in.Drake, slowly coming to, looked around in confusion before he noticed Karson. He peered at him for a second, hardly cracking an expression, and then turned his head to the two men.“Well, this isn’t how I thought my day was gonna go. What’s this shit storm about? He said angrily but oddly arrogantly as he looked the men up and down.“This is YOUR shit storm kid. A job is a job and ya mother fuckers fucked the boss, so I got me a fucking job that I love doing. Ain’t a damn thing about it shitty for me.” Mullet said as he stepped directly in front of Karson.“You got thick skin, but we’ve been prepared for you Drake. We’ve seen the videos, we’ve taken precautions, and we’ve been watching for a long time now. I’d like to think we know what makes you both tick.” The bald man says as he presses the blade to Drake’s throat. The bald man slowly and carefully sliced the blade against the side of Drake’s neck while Mullet punched one first into the other repeatedly in front of Karson. Drake attempted to headbutt forward into Bald, but the man lunged backwards and chuckled loudly. Drake, who looked beyond pissed, opened his mouth to shout but before he even got a peep out, Bald swung hard toward his face. Unexpecting the blow, the punch collided into Drake’s face and sent his head backward into the mattresses. Karson could feel the fire rising up within. He had done so well to control himself over the years but hadn’t had a stress like this in a long time. He could feel the heat coming from him and it was apparent that Mullet could too.“I fucking said to simmer down boy. We don’t need ya to go nuclear on the place while there’s still some fun to be had.” Mullet popped off to him as he turned to face Bald and Drake. “I reckon ya boys never met Grounder before so introduce ya self for them.”“Well, howdy fucking do boys. As you just learned, the name’s Grounder. You’ll find out why soon enough. This might be your first time meeting me, but I met you about six years ago. Got hired on right after your little game you played. So you don’t know jack shit about me but I know all your little secrets.” Grounder said with another laugh.Karson knew why Mullet seemed so familiar now. He thought back to the day of him and Drake going to the Mystic Neon Club. They were sixteen with the desire to make any dime they could, but interested in the show the girls would provide as well. Drake had got into a fight with a bouncer outside the club and overheard him talking about a deal coming the club’s way. Karson never heard the conversation, but he let Drake tell him the plan and he followed along as he usually did. As far as the two of them thought, it was a job really well done. Mullet was the only one who got hurt, thanks to Drake and his wolf side.“Who the fuck cares if you know a few fucking secrets? It’s been like seven years so why don’t you two Scarface wannabes make like Mullet’s tooth and fall outta here!” Drake shouted at them bravely. Karson knew Drake was always the type to act tough even when he was worried. He thought that he might’ve just been putting on a brave face, but since it had been so long, he couldn’t see through Drake as easily as he once did.“Grounder, go ahead and teach that dumb fucking kid some manners. Just keep him awake because I’ve been waiting a long time to get em back for this shit.” Mullet said as he pointed to the scar on his neck.Karson knew he could get free, but the cost was too great. If he let his emotions get the best of him, he would kill the men, but Drake as well. He had always resented the power he had, and this was a prime example of why.“A slice and dice, I cut rats and mice. A good blade is nice, but silver takes your life.” Grounder spoke in a much deeper voice than before as he tossed the blade back and forth between his two hands. The blade landed back into his right hand, and he lunged forward stabbing the blade into Drake’s leg. As Drake let out a loud yelp, Karson jerked back and forth again trying to pull his chains loose, trying anything he could aside from exploding. As Karson pulled at his chains, Mullet stepped in front of him and swung both fists down into the top of Karson’s head. The blow sent him to the ground rather hard, his eyes rolling around for a minute. Before he could process what had happened, Mullet grabbed him by the back of the neck, pulled Karson’s head back, and looked into his dizzy eyes.“Ya more sensitive than wolfy over there so I’ll tell ya how this is gonna work. Ya can take this little pill right now or I can beat ya senseless, so bad that’ll ya gonna wish you were dead and ya won’t be able to think about anything other than the pain.” Mullet sternly told Karson as he pulled a small little white pill from his spandex pocket.Karson stared at the man for a second before peering over to Drake and Grounder. Grounder was stabbing Drake over and over in different spots. Drake was thrashing back and forth, screaming from the pain. Another blow quickly to Karson’s head sent his vision into white. He fell to the ground and sat for a moment listening to the sounds of Drake. Mullet jerked him up again by his head and stuck the pill to Karson’s face.“Take the pill now. The next hit won’t be as soft.” Mullet spit out to him with a pleased grin.Karson’s head wobbled back and forth staring at the pill in front of him. He didn’t know what it could be but seeing as him and Drake didn’t have much to stop the men, he opened his mouth. Within half a second, Mullet shoved it into Karson’s mouth. Karson held it there for a second as the pill began to disintegrate in his mouth. He couldn’t think clearly enough to hide the pill, so he had no choice but to chew it up. As he took his last dry swallow, the pill went down.Mullet gave a big smirk, patted Karson on the head, and turned to Grounder who was still stabbing Drake over and over. Grounder would stab him, switch to a different spot, stab him there, and then switch back to the first wound for another stab to stop the accelerated healing.“Well, that ought to stop him for a bit Grounder. In a couple minutes, he’ll be so fucked up that he shouldn’t be able to blow even if he wanted to. Why don’t you take a break, just go let Gerald know the situation. I’m gonna have a couple minutes of fun. Once it kicks in, I’ll come swap with ya.” Mullet said excitedly.Grounder pulled the blade from Drake one last time, letting out another chuckle as the blood shot out. The plastic below Drake was flooded with his blood, and the mattress behind him almost as bad. Grounder handed the knife over to Mullet, turned to Karson, gave him a wink, and turned for the door.Karson looked over toward the door as it was closing behind Grounder. He couldn’t see very well to make out what was on the other side, but he thought he saw someone sitting at a table. The door slammed shut and Mullet turned his head to Karson.“I sure hope it kicks in fast because this is gonna be a hell of a show for ya kid. If ya behave yourself, I’ll even let ya say goodbye.” Mullets said with a chuckle. He faced back towards Drake and looked at him up and down.“You’re nothing but a punk bitch. When I get out of these, I’m gonna rip your head off and make Grounder fuck your skull.” Drake said weakly but harshly as he stared Mullet in his eyes.Mullet nodded his head to Drake, turned around and shrugged to Karson, and then immediately swung himself around, swinging the silver bowie knife into Drake’s throat. At this point, Karson felt the pill kicking in. Something about it was keeping him calm, but very nauseous. He felt as though he was swaying in the ocean and his eyes were that of a fly. There were six of Mullet in front of him stabbing all the Drake’s. Mullet was talking to Drake, but the words were going in and out.Karson lowered his heavy head, blinked a few times, and looked back up. The floor had three times as much blood as before. Drake was littered with holes throughout his body and his left eye was cut completely out. Realizing he must’ve spaced out for a minute, he tried to call out but only a groan followed. Mullet turned around and smiled at Karson.“How about one more and I’ll give ya two a quick break?” Mullet said as he turned and jammed the silver knife into one of the holes already in Drake. As Drake let out a loud gasp of pain, Mullet began to drag the blade from one hole to another, gutting Drake like a pig.Blood and guts spilled onto the floor as Mullet yanked the blade back out. He laughed a little, rubbed his neck scar, and then jabbed the blade into Drake’s neck. He turned toward Karson and approached him. He bent down and got face to face with him. Karson stared, trying to focus on the man’s face but everything was extremely blurry. Mullet took a hard swing and hit Karson down to the floor once more before leaving the room and slamming the door shut behind him.Karson gazed at the stars in front of him as his head throbbed. He didn’t feel as hot headed as before and figured it was the pill he had ingested. He turned his attention quickly to Drake who was still choking on his own blood but was no longer bleeding from his neck, though blood still poured from his slowly healing stomach hole. Karson aggressively shook his head to clear his eyes as he started to call out to Drake.“Drake…they know about us. I don’t know what we’re gonna—” Karson said before Drake cut him off.“It’s still…worth the money…we made.” Drake said as he coughed blood out his mouth and continued, “We made almost two hundred thousand dollars. I didn’t know when…but it was only a matter of time before they came for us.”“Well, I’d say right it’s not worth it right now Drake. They are going to torture and kill us…” Karson forced out as the drug warped his mind.“Looks to me that they aren’t fucking you up quite the same. Since they know about our powers, they must be trying not to trigger you to explode. Who knows how long they have been watching us.” Drake said as he stared over at the door.“How are we gonna get out of this Drake? I can hardly hold my head up. I can’t really move my hands and feet. My head is spinning, and I can’t focus.” Karson said dreadfully.“We can’t say too much. Those assholes are probably listening to us right now. But it’s not looking good. These fucking chains are made of silver too. It’s burning my wrists and ankles…” Drake trailed off and he peered at the door still. The door swung open, and a different man walked in. He had shaved head and a very visible Chinese symbol tattooed on the side of it. His face was stern and hard as he looked back and forth between the two prisoners. He looked directly to Drake and nodded, as though he was confirming what Drake had just said. Karson’s eyes went wide as the man nodded. For Karson, this made things even worse than before. Unable to even talk about an escape plan, he began to fear the worst.Drake spit in the lake of blood below him while maintaining eye contact with the man. The man grinned with his teeth, peered back at Karson, and then slammed the door. As the door was closing, Karson peaked through the hole again. It was a brief second, but he saw Mullet hand the man a pair of keys but wasn’t able to see them well enough to determine if they were the keys to their chains. There was a long silence as the two brothers just stared at each other. Karson finally broke the tension after a long sigh.“If we stay quiet like this, they’re going to assume we are in here scheming. There’s at least three of them out there. Maybe we can work something out with them. Or maybe we could just give them the money back. I still have some of my share of it stashed.” Karson said to Drake while winking at him. Drake gave a frown and shook his head at him before letting out a big groan.“It’s no use Karson. We aren’t here for them to get money out of us. They want to send a message. Fuck with them and they’ll fuck with us. That’s how these fucking gangs are now. I blew through the money like a teenage boy in his first strip club.” Drake said.“Well, you pretty much were a teenage boy. We both were…do you remember what kinds of things you bought? I sure spent a lot of it on booze.” Karson said with a light but saddening chuckle.“Yeah, booze and kissing Amanda’s ass.” Drake snapped suddenly. As the words left Drake’s mouth, a tension quickly filled the room. They gave each other a death stare. Karson still felt extremely lightheaded and fuzzy. The mention of her felt like a slap in the face to Karson. He turned his head and looked over to the door. If this was going to be their last moments, Karson was willing to have this fight.“Don’t even talk to me about Amanda. You’re the sole reason she is gone. Not me, not Akuma, and not Amanda. You’re the only reason we ever got into trouble! If I look back at the childhood we had, you always brought us down. If not for this stupid bullshit situation, I’d have been more than happy to never see your face again.” Karson popped off angrily. He could feel a little bit of the heat within him, but it was still compressed. He felt this was almost ideal for the situation since under duress, everyone around Karson was normally at risk.“As if you aren’t a fucking ticking time bomb!?! Maybe Amanda is dead because of me, but you’ve probably got far more blood on your fucking hands. Don’t talk to me like I’m some fucking demon when your head count shoots up by thousands at a time. You probably would’ve killed her before you even knew it!” Drake shouted in the heat of the moment. The door shot open as Mullet and Grounder stepped back in. Karson shot his eyes to the door and peered behind the two. He couldn’t see the other man at the desk anymore. The room didn’t look very big so perhaps the man was gone. He deeply hoped the keys the man had weren’t the keys to the chains.“Sounds like ya boys are having some sort of disagreement in here. I wouldn’t worry about it too much though. Grounder and I are gonna make ya forget about all ya pesky problems of the past. Probably gonna wanna focus ya self on the here and now anyway.” Mullet happily said as he handed the bowie knife to Grounder. “I’ll let you work on him for a minute. I don’t wanna get too much blood on my hands before Grubs brings back some lunch.”Karson watched as Drake seemed to tense up his whole body. Grounder took the blade and walked to Drake. Before Karson was able to see what happened to him next, Mullet turned to Karson, grabbed his throat with one hand, and repeatedly punched Karson in the face over and over with the other. The blows were intense, but the pill was slightly helping to take a bit of the edge away. Every hit still sent him floating and surrounded by stars. Karson couldn’t keep count of how many times he was punched but was able to notice when Mullet finally switched hands. Behind the punches, Karson could hear the screams of Drake. The process went on for what seemed like forever before Karson finally lost consciousness.Karson woke up feeling nothing but pain. As he attempted to open his eyes, only the left one would open. His entire face was swollen and covered in blood. As he looked around with his one functioning eye, he noticed a single toe lying beside the lamp on the floor. Even though he could hardly lift his head, he forced it up and peered at Drake. The sight brough vomit into Karson’s throat. Drake was passed out in the same spot. His right eye was completely missing from the socket, his fingers missing from both hands, and his left leg was severed below the kneecap, with a constant drip of blood coming out still. In the ocean of blood upon the ground, Drake’s leg sat there, all the toes missing from it.Karson couldn’t stand it anymore. He puked on the ground below him and kept his head down. It hurt to puke much more than he expected, and he couldn’t bear to do it again. He still felt groggy, but the warmth of his emotions was greater than before. He wasn’t sure how long he had been passed out, or what all he missed. Unsure how to react, he continued to stare at the ground. He wasn’t even sure if Drake was alive. During their times together, Karson had never seen Drake go through such a trauma and had no idea the extent of his healing factor. Finally, after what felt like forever, the two men entered again. Mullet went straight to Karson and jerked his head up so they could meet eyes. He looked hard into Karson’s visible eye before nodding.“I can see it in ya face how hard this is for ya. While I think it’s a damn shame, I also think it’s pretty great. Was gonna focus all our efforts on Drake first since he left him mark on me, just for myself, ya know? But I can tell ya care about this a lot more than here does. It works perfect for me really. Ya seem like the side kick to him so I’m thinking ya just followed his lead. So…here’s what’s gonna happen now. I’ll give ya a chances to say your goodbyes to him before we finish the job. But then it’s ya turn kid. Gotta pay ya dues. Do what ya gotta do and make it fast. If you’re lucky, this’ll even wake him up for ya.” Mullet said before turning around to Drake. He reached up and stuck his thumb directly into Drake’s eye socket. As the blood oozed out onto his thumb, Drake thrashed for a moment and let out a blood curdling screech of pain. Karson, in physical and emotional pain, let out a scream as well. Mullet snatched his thumb out as he and Grounder both laughed before exiting the room one more time.“Drake, can you hear me?” Karson said as tears fell down his face. No sound followed in response, so he continued. “It all could have been different Drake. We…we just played the hand we were dealt…please…we have to get out of here…”A sudden movement from Drake caused Karson to jerk his head back up to look. Drake, head hanging down still, wiggled his limbs in attempt to move. He let out a long and painful groan before lifting his head upward.“Didn’t mean to kill her…” Drake muttered under his breath. “Couldn’t let it go Karson.”“Now isn’t the time to talk about it Drake. Let’s just get out of here and we can work it all out later...” Karson cried with false hope. “We’re gonna get out of here any minute now. You’ll see. Then we can tear each other’s head off over Amanda.”“NO KARSON! This is…this is the only time. I’m sorry…I loved her and I…didn’t know how far Akuma was willing to go. I’m sorry…to Amanda…and I’m sorry to you…” Drake weakly said as he let his head droop back down.“SHUT UP DRAKE! SHUT UP! We are going to leave in just a minute…it’s all gonna work out. I promise…” Karson screamed in pain and anger. He could feel the boil within himself again. It still wasn’t at a blowing point, but he could feel it enough to know.“Karson…you’re gonna get out of here. I’m so sorry…for the brother I was…the person I was…this has to happen…Karson went to respond in confusion, but the door opened back up and the two men entered again.“Let’s just make this shit fast. Grubbs got called to the docks and I’m fucking hungry.” Mullet said to Grounder as he stepped over to Karson. “I hope ya said what you needed to say because time’s up.”“I’m begging you…please don’t do this. We can make this right for you, I promise we can…” Karson pleaded to him.Mullet opened his mouth wide with a grin for Karson, gave him a hard slap across the back, and then nodded to Grounder. Grounder reached over and grabbed Drake by the sides of his head. He quickly shoved his head against the mattress and held it in place. Drake, too injured to resist, laid in the spot nearly motionless. Mullet placed the knife to the side of Drake’s throat, nodded to Grounder, and then checked to ensure Karson was watching.Karson screamed and pleaded but it only made the men laugh more. Drake looked to Karson and started to mutter something. But it was too late. At the very moment Drake opened his mouth, Mullet stuck the tip of the blade into his neck. Whatever sounds that Drake meant to come out were stifled by the blood that shot out his mouth and throat. Grounder held his head in place still as Mullet stuck the blade all the way through Drake’s neck and started a sawing motion.Karson screamed and screamed for them to stop but within a matter of thirty seconds, Drake’s head fell to the ground while his body dangled in place. The two men turned and laughed at Karson’s reaction before Grounder picked up Drake’s head.“Maybe we should let em hold on to him. A brother’s bond!” Grounder said with a chuckle as he tossed Drake’s head at Karson’s chest. As it hit his chest, Karson let out another scream of pain and hatred, agony and sadness, loneliness and anger.Karson didn’t let up. The men stared at him while he continued to scream. Their grins quickly turned to frowns as they watched. All the emotion in Karson began to boil in a second, his face turning bright red, tears pouring down his face. He no longer felt compressed suddenly.“Fucking kill him now Grounder!” Mullet shouted to him. In a panic, Grounder lunged forward at Karson while reaching for the gun in his holster, but it was too late.As Grounder got close, fire seemed to explode around the room from Karson. Grounder never even saw it happen as the fire encased and incinerated him within a third of a second, turning his body into complete ash. Mullet only had a slight second to watch the fire burst outward and killing his partner before it sent him aflame as well. He tried to let out a scream but to no avail.Karson slowly opened his eyes only for his vision to be masked by smoke. He sat up from the ground and began to feel all the pain again. He reached his right hand to his face and winced from the pain of touching it. Standing on his feet, Karson looked more through the smoke. The entire building was gone and all that remained was a crater the explosion must’ve left behind. Karson frantically looked around to find any remnants of his brother but there was nothing at all. Karson cried as he painfully crawled his way out of the large hole he had created. He was sore and in pain, but his powers had never caused him any harm worse than exhaustion and passing out.As he reached the top of the hole, he wondered how long he had been asleep since the explosion. He thought that if it had been a while, people surely would’ve come to investigate. Looking over the scenery, it was all barren and dirt. He wasn’t familiar with how it looked before his explosion but based on his prior incidents, he found it safe to say that he had completely wiped the location off the map. There was no evidence of anyone being here prior. He searched around looking for any sort of indicator of where they were but there wasn’t anything to be found. Seeing as his explosions always destroyed his clothes, he tried to find something to cover his bare body up but no luck still. With a long sigh and a stream of tears, Karson put one foot in front of the other and started walking.Karson sat on the edge of the bottom of the bed and stared at the television screen. It took him hours of walking before he finally found a town. One of the first people to witness him was kind enough to give him a hoodie to wrap around his waist since he had lost all of his clothes in the explosion. The woman gave him a ten-dollar bill as well. From there, he went to a small pawn shop and bought a generic old set of clothes for close to seven dollars. After leaving the shop, he made his way to a grocery store where he told an older man that he had been in a car accident and had lost everything he had. The man was willing to pay Karson some money but made him work for it, regardless of how beaten down Karson looked. Karson spent nearly seven long and tiring hours unloading pallets of product into the back of the store. Finally, when it was all said and done, Karson went to a gas station and purchased a six pack of beer. Afterwards, he found himself a motel to spend the night at, using most of the money he had made.Karson stood up and turned the television on before going to the mini fridge to grab a beer. He plopped back into his spot and flipped the channel to a local news station.“…reports that Sante Climbar is nowhere to be seen, as if the entire town just vanished. Officers reporting on the scene are baffled and have not reached out with any further words. More on this story shortly. In other news, are teenagers using their computer mouse to get high? A local mom…”Karson looked back down to the floor and wondered if anyone else was around them when he exploded. He checked the area and there was nothing left to find. He couldn’t imagine police finding anything else that he might’ve missed. He took a long swig of his drink and stood up to cut the television off.Karson was struggling to decide whether vengeance was the answer for his situation. They had killed Drake and he wanted revenge for it, but also knew the fact that they did the club wrong in the first place. He felt stuck between a rock and a hard place, but something had to be done. He took another swig, finishing the bottle off. He let out a loud burp as he sat on the bed again. Maybe going to see Amanda’s grave would help him get some answers, or at the very least, some sense of peace. Quickly finishing the bottle, he tossed it in the trash. He told himself a short nap would be all he needed to decide the next move and then drifted to sleep
