“I see,” Fubuki said. “The girl that’s on your mind is Asuka, right?”
Manjoume felt his face get bright red. “I’m sorry!”
“What for?” Fubuki asked, genuinely, which surprised Manjourme. They were on the beach, the waves crashing, and giggling girls waving at Fubuki.
“Because she’s your sister!” What, was he trying to get Fubuki mad at him now? He shouldn’t be arguing with this.
Fubuki shrugged. “I’m on the side of anyone who’s in love.”
Manjoume’s stomach flipped at that word.
Love
. Was that what he was feeling? Already? This feeling was all too new to him. This half-finished feeling which he’s already figured out he does not like.
“But she’s with the Kaiser.” Manjoume sighed. He may be Manjoume Thunder, but he was no Kaiser Ryo.
Fubuki snorted. “They’re not together.”
Manjoume swung his head towards Fubuki in surprise. “What? How can they not be?”
Fubuki blinked at Manjoume - and when it was obvious he wasn’t going to continue, Manjoume did.
“They’re always together!” Manjoume threw up his arms. “They have late-night rendezvous at the lighthouse! They’re literally there right now!”
Fubuki shook his head and placed a hand on Manjoume’s shoulder. “Manjoume, Manjoume, Manjoume. Trust me. They are not together. They have no feelings for each other like that.”
“But how can you know?” Manjoume stressed. He can’t get his hopes up if it’s all in vain.
“Like I said - trust me,” Fubuki said. “I know, for one hundred percent certainty, as Asuka’s brother and Ryo’s best friend, that there is nothing like that between them. Okay?”
Manjoume has never heard his serious tone from Fubuki before. Ever. It scares him a little. Manjoume just nods.
“Okay,” Fubuki said, and his wild grin is back. “Here’s what you’re going to do!”
It went as badly as Manjoume thought it would.
It was probably more embarrassing than his loss to the slacker, but thankfully, strangely, the opening of the spirit gate happened and everyone seemed to forget about it.
Well, everyone except Manjoume himself.
That’s how he ends up at the beach so late at night - or, early in the morning, at this point? - pacing. He’d locked his deck under the sink to just get a minute alone without those slimy ojamas crooning in his ear.
Manjoume sighed. That half-finished feeling? The cut felt more ripped and jagged than ever.
He thought, for sure, that with Fubiki - Asuka’s
brother
- he was sure to succeed.
But wait - maybe Fubuki was playing him, tricking him and sicking him against his sister. Oh, the next time Manjoume saw Fubiki he was going to-
Oh.
He had gone back to the tree line, walking along it in the shadows as he stomped back to his dorm. But further down the beach, he ran into just the man he was whinging about - and the Kaiser.
“-tell Manjoume to do that?” Kaiser’s said.
Quickly, Manjoume crouched down to listen. If only he had his ojamas actually, he could send them to hear better.
“You know I’m a
romantic
, I had to help!” Fubuki exclaimed, draping himself on the Kaiser’s shoulder. “The heart calls and I answer.”
The Kaiser laughs. “Well, I guess that’s true.”
“Besides.” Fubuki pouted. “Everyone thinks you are dating my sister. Maybe I hoped to set the record straight.”
“Well, they’re half right,” Kaiser said. “I am dating Tenjoin.”
HA! Oh Manjoume was going to pummel Fubuki he was-
But just as Manjoume moved to get up, the Kaiser continued.
“Just not that Tenjoin.”
…
Manjoume’s brain ground to a halt. What does that mean-
But he quickly got his answer from Fubiki.
“Damn straight you are,” Fubuki said, and then grabbed the sides of the Kaiser’s face and kissed him.
Manjoume stared. And stared. And then his mind caught up to the rest of him.
The Kaiser is dating Fubuki?
Fubuki is dating the Kaiser??
Fubuki’s antics worked on the Kaiser??????
Huh. Maybe there was hope for him after all.
The kiss turned heavy and Manjoume could hear a moan that would ring in his ears for the rest of his life.
Yeah, he was done wallowing. The site of them killed anything he had been feeling. Ugh. Time to go back to the dorm and deal with those card spirits.
Maybe those annoying beasts would get his mind off what he just witnessed.
