----- CHAPTER BREAK -----
Denki sat in his best friend (the reader)'s living room, downing another bottle of Saké...his 6 bottle that night. He didn't hear the door unlock, open, closed, and was locked again. But he almost immediately notice you, and turned to look up at you. "...What are you doing here (Oc name), I thought you didn't get off work for another two hours.", he says, his words slurred as he spoke, showing that he was intoxicated from all the Saké he had. “I-It’s about the drinking, isn’t it?...I only had two sips...maybe two…three…six bottles?”, he said, his face a bit red from all the drinking. I sigh, I know what it's like, drinking till I lost control. But I couldn't watch my friend do the same as I did, "Have you had any water yet?", I asked.Denki turned to look at you, his bloodshot and somewhat weary eyes staring at you. It took him a few seconds, as if he was trying to focus on what you had ask, which wasn’t doing his poor drunkard self a lot of favors. “..I.. I did…..?”, He asked, trying to remember, his words still seem a bit slurred, but not as bad as before. “…Why do you ask?”, he asked, not realizing how he looks to someone else in his current state. I sigh once more, "To put it bluntly, you look like shit, and you need to sober up a bit.", I say, heading to the kitchen to fix him a cup of cold water. He seemed to almost cringe from hearing the word ‘sober’, almost as though it was a bit painful for him to even hear those words. “..I-I know….”, he said, his voice soft and low. He was definitely upset, though it didn’t seem like he was upset with you. “..Sorry...”, he say, his words seemed a bit slurred as his eyes began to look down at the floor, ashamed of himself.I look over at him, and back at the cup of water in my hand, looking at my reflection. "Don't be ashamed, I know what's it like. One cup turns to two then three then a whole bottle, or many bottles", I say as I look at him, he reminds me of myself, when I was drowning myself, and my sorrows in alcohol. I walk back into the living room, "Here, you'll feel better.", I say, handing him the cup of cold water. He slowly took the cup of water in his shaking hands, slightly trembling from the lack of control as his eyes seemed to shift to the cup. He soon took begin taking sips out of the cup, his lips somewhat sloppy as he drank from the red plastic cup. “...Thank’s….”, he muttered, his voice only getting a little bit more clearer with each sip he took.I nod, taking a seat beside him on the floor. "May I ask what cause you to drink so much?", I asked. Denki paused, a bit reluctant to discuss what was happening, even when he was drunk. Though, he eventually began to speak after a few moments of heavy silence. “...My girlfriend, Jiro, and I had a fight..”, he muttered, his words slow. “...S-She said that we shouldn’t be together anymore, and it...it broke me...I-I guess”, he said, his voice falter as he spoke. I nod, "She called me actually, told me to come check up on you, she figured you'd come to my house. Little did she know, I was already heading over here." I say, looking at him. “...She… She did?”, he asks, his eyebrows slightly raised as his eyes met your. The realization that what you said making sense to him, but only after a few moments of trying to process the information. “...You’re friends with Jiro?”, he asks, his eyes and tone still a bit shaky. “It’s so embarrassing that she’s still worried about me..”, he muttered, embarrassed about the fact that his ex-girlfriend still cared about him.I nod, "Yeah, I seen her a few times at work, and she cares about you because before you two started dating, you were friends. Even if your exes now, she'll always still worried. Plus, she called me because I went though something similar to what you're going though.", I say, taking the empty cup from him. Denki was surprised to hear this. “...You did?”, he asked. “…So how’d you manage to get over it..?”, he asked, having lost some of his shakiness and drunkenness. As the shock of what you said slowly began to seep in and sobered him up slightly. "I...I haven't. I mean, I'm better than I was back then. But some nights are harder than others I guess...", I say, sitting the empty cup by the empty bottles. His eyebrows slightly raise as he begins to understand the implications of what you said, soon turning to look at you. His mouth dropped slightly from hearing your words. “You mean you still feel the pain…?”, he asks, his words slow and soft. His drunk state seemed to only amplify his feelings...I nod, "Yeah, some nights it not there, some nights I can sleep it off, and others night I need a drink...or a bottle to make the pain go away.", I say, staring at the empty bottles, reminding the other night when I had down 2 bottle, and fall asleep at a friend's house thinking it was my own. “...So you know exactly how I feel?”, He asked, his eyes beginning to water a little bit as he continued to stare at you. “…I’m sorry, that you have to deal with that..”, he say quietly, his words slurring a bit. “I wouldn’t wish this type of pain on my worst enemy...”, he muttered, the pain beginning to sink in as he spoke more. I smile sadly, and nod, "Yeah, but that's why I got friends, they help me, distract me, that or one night stands", I say, and chuckle softly.Denki was surprised to hear you mention one night stands, your statement seeming to sober him up even more as his drunken state was replaced with slight confusion. “You’re having... one night stand?”, he asks, his mind clearly not being able to fully process what you just said. “And that helps you?…How?..”, he asked, though the pain was still clearly present as he continued to ask questions. "I miss my ex, i guess, I get to pretend she's still there, she still cares, even if it's just sex, even if it just for the night. Just for a little while, I get to pretend none of the pain happen.", I say, then looked over at him. "But know that's not for everyone.", I say, I didn't want Denki to think that that'll cure his pain. Denki was shocked to hear that, his face turning into a slight frown as hie looked at you. “But...That’s...That’s not a healthy way to deal with that sort of pain… You shouldn’t be putting yourself into risky situations like that…”, he says, a bit of worry in his voice. He seemed quite concerned about your actions, and you could see the sadness in his face as he began to speak about your choice of solution for your issue.I smile sadly, and look back at the empty bottles. "I know, I'm kinda trying to find my way, but don't worry, it's not a permanent solution, it's just for now, till I find something better.", I say, wishing I could do more for him. "Can I ask why she broke up with you?", I ask. Denki’s face became soft, his mouth opening slightly when you asked the reasoning for why she broke up with him. He seemed to have a bit of difficulty thinking about the situation. And his hesitation to speak seemed to show the pain he continued to feel throughout the whole ordeal. He slowly began to talk, his voice barely a whisper. “She said that I hadn’t been giving her enough attention...And that I hadn’t been treating her like I did when we first started dating...”, he explained.I nod, "Is this her first time bring this up, or has she told you that before?", I ask. “...She told me about it before.”, he replied softly, his words barely loud enough for you to hear, he stared down at the floor. “But...This time...She said it was something that couldn’t be fixed…That we were too different now…I-I guess…”, he mumbles as the tears began to fall from his eyes as he thought back to that horrible memory of his relationship with Jiro. "Let it out, this is a judgement free area.", I say, giving him a reassuring smile. Denki slowly begins to sob for a bit, he hadn’t cried to this extent ever since the breakup itself. Like it was only really beginning to sink in for him now, he continues to sob for a good while, his breathing getting more erratic and heavy as he begins to sob harder and harder. “I-It’s too hard...I-I don’t know how to go on without her!”, He yelled, crying through his words, his breathing slowly becoming more and more erratic as the pain only continued to sink in.I make the room feel calm with my quirk, making him calm as well. "Breath, I'm not going anyway unless you want me too.", I say, reassuring him. “N-No…don’t go…I-I need you here…”, Denki says, attempting to calm himself down with a deep breath. As you calmed him down with your quirk, the pain seemed to subside a little, Denki slowly calm down as his breathing became more calm and more controlled than before. He was still clearly sad, but much better from just seconds ago. “...Sorry for crying like this in front of you…”, he said, his breathing still staggered from the whole ordeal, as he wiped at his face. "Don't be, that's good, that mean you're coming to terms with what happened.", I say, "Are you hungry?", I added. Denki slightly nods at the question, as the pain began to subside, the hunger finally began to creep up on him. “...I am actually.”, he said, his words slightly slurred as he slowly sat up right. “...Have you.. Have you got anything to eat in the house?”, he asked, his voice slightly shaky and hoarse as he spoke. "I got some leftover my mom brought the other day, come on.", I say, helping him stand up. “Thank you.”, Denki says as they walk to the kitchen, his legs a little weak from the whole ordeal, but he took a few steps with you to the kitchen and looked over at you. There was a comfortable silence between the two for a moment, before Denki spoke up again, but this time, his voice was much more calm, and had most of the slurring gone away from his words. “So...Uhm...How’s life been for you?”, he asked awkwardly, still a bit embarrassed from crying in front of you.I smile, "I'm doing better, I told my mom about everything, so she comes by every so often to check up on me. She tells me about how things are at home and I tell her how work is.", I say, taking the leftover out the fridge, and put it on the stove as I turning it on. Denki nods slightly at your response, feeling more at ease as he continued to talk to you and calm himself down. “That’s good.”, he says as he takes a seat at the dinner table, waiting for his food to get finished. “I’m glad that you have your mother there for you to talk to…”, he said, a warm smile finding its way on his face. “It helps with the pain.”, he says, speaking from past experience. I nod, "Yeah, it does. She looked so sad when I told her everything, but she was so gracefully that I finally told her. I use to hide though type of things from her when I was younger.", I say as I plate our food. Sitting his in front of him and taking a seat at the table. Handing him a pair of chopsticks for his noodles.“It’s not good when you hide things from someone important to you.”, Denki said, taking a bit of the noodles with his chopsticks, his words slurring. “...You should talk to them and let them know if you have any problems…They’d want you to share those kinds of things with them so they can help…”, he said, hoping that his own advice could maybe help you out. I summon a cup of cool water, and sit it by his plate and summon me a cup of warm tea by mines. "She said the same thing, but she was going though so much, I didn't want to burden her with mines. But she made me realize that I was making it worse by not telling her. And now we have a unbreakable bond.", I say, use my chopsticks to eat some of my noodles. Denki looks up at you, and slowly began to smile from your words. “...I’m glad that you and your mother had that conversation…You two are both very important to each other, you know…”, he said, taking a bite of his own noodles. “It would be devastating if either one of you were to fall apart and stop talking to each other...”, he said, sounding sincere in his words. But he couldn't help but think about his own bond with his mother, but that was a problem for another day, one problem at a time.I nod, "I can't image life without her, she's one of my main reasons why I've come this far.", I say. Denki continues to eat and nod. “That’s what is most important in these situations...It’d be awful to lose those who are close to you...You’d have no one to talk to or get advice from...No one to share life with…”, he muttered, slowly continuing to eat his food. I stop eating, and look at him, "Denki, you know you can always talk to me right?", I ask. “Really?”, he asked in a moment of shock, his eyes beginning to light up from that sentence alone. “You’re okay with me talking to you?”, he asked, sounding surprised for some reason. “You’ll listen to me?”, he asked, his face beginning to break into a warm smile. I smile, and nod, "You're my best friend, of course I'll listen to youDenki began to feel his heart lighten up from the news, and he gave out a small sigh. “Y-You know, you’re a real one bro…I appreciate this, a lot…”, he says, looking up at you with a grateful look as he continued to eat his noodles. “You’re really kind, you know that?”, He asked, a warm smile still present on his face. I begin to eat again, "I try to be.", I say as I smile warmly. “Well I hope you understand how important that is...”. he said as he continued to eat. “A good friend is one of the most important things in someone’s life.”, his words were slow and quiet, but you could hear the thankfulness that filled his voice as he spoke them. My phone vibrate, I take it out my pocket, and look at it. It was a text message, I text a reply, and send it, I then put it back in my pocket.
"You think you can hold the fort down while I'm gone.", I ask him as i finish my noodles. He looks up from his bowl of noodles, and nod. He sallowed the noodles that was in his mouth, "Yeah, where you heading?", he asked, taking a sip of his water. "I uh...I got a date.", I say, picking up my cup, and took a sip of my tea. He looked at me like I was crazy, "You got a date...at two in the morning...", he said, picking up on my lie. I sigh, I finished my tea, and stood. I walked to the sink, and carefully dropped it in. I turned, facing Denki, and leaned on the counter. "Alright, I got a one night stand tonight...", I say quietly. "(Oc name)...", he said, his voice full of worry.
"I know, I know, but look, here.", I say pulling out an extra phone from my pocket. I then handed it to him, "If something goes wrong, you'll be the first to know.", I said as he took the phone. He sighed, "Alright...see you in the morning.", he said, knowing there was no changing my mind. I nodded, "See you in the morning.", I said, and left for the door. Denki heard the door unlock, open, closed, and locked. He sigh, "It's gonna be a long night.", he whispered, he stood, and headed to the living room to clean his mess. He then hopped on the couch, and went to sleep.
