“Simon, it’s time for you to stop moping, this can be your opportunity to get over Agatha!”I sigh and roll over on my bed, looking at Penny, who’s sitting on Baz’s bed. He’s going to kill me for that later. He can always smell when Penny’s been on his bed. (he’s a vampire, that’s why.)“Pen, I don’t want to go. I heard Agatha’s going and I don’t really want to see her.”Penny’s trying to convince me to go to an eighth year party in one of the abandoned classrooms this Friday. Normally I would, but this week has been rough and I just want to sleep. The reason this week has been so painstaking is because Agatha broke up with me on Monday. I’d sat down at breakfast and she’d just looked at me and said,“Simon, I don’t think this is working anymore.”My eyes had widened and I could feel my magic bubbling up slightly.“But Aggie, you’re my future!”She sighed. “I don’t love you, Simon. I don’t love anyone.”And with that, she’d walked away, leaving me with my magic swirling and bubbling. I’d raced back to my room, only to find Baz sitting on his bed reading. Crowley, I hated him. He was sitting there, perfectly and pristinely, with his raven hair slicked back and his gray eyes the colour of a storm.“Fuck you, Baz!” I screamed. His head tilted up and he looked at me with narrow eyes.“What could I possibly have done this time, Snow?” He asked, letting out a long-suffering sigh, like I was a needy toddler that he couldn’t get to leave him alone. He continued, “Do you have a papercut that I’m somehow responsible for?”“You flirted with Agatha, and now she’s broken up with me!”He looked surprised for a second, but quickly masked it with impassiveness as he raised an eyebrow.“So it’s my fault that your stupid girlfriend broke up with you? Boy, I must be a terrible person.”
“Agatha is not stupid! But yes, you are a terrible person! You’re a monster! You drink rat blood and you and your stupid pretentious family are plotting against the Mage!”His eyes hardened.“Fuck all the way off, Snow. It’s not my fault Wellbelove broke up with you. And you two will probably be back together by this time tomorrow, so leave me alone and go kiss your precious girlfriend.”I huffed, and turned away, but before I left I muttered,“Stupid fucking monster. I’m going to prove you’re a Vampire, and you’ll get kicked out of Watford, just you wait.”—--------—That was Monday, now it’s Friday, and Pen somehow convinced me to go to the party. I walk down the stairs to meet Penny so that we can head to the party together. I see her standing in front of Mummer’s house, waiting for me. Her purple hair bounces as she walks over to me.“Si! Look at your outfit! You look great.”I sigh, she literally picked out this outfit for me because she claimed my other ones were ‘too casual’. I’m wearing a pair of jeans and a yellow jumper, and Penny’s wearing a purple T-shirt and a pleated black skirt. I smile at her and together we walk towards the party.—--------—The first thing I notice when I walk in is Agatha. She’s standing in the corner, sipping on something from a plastic cup. She looks stunning, in a white flowy top that exposes her collarbones, a pale green skirt, and white heels. Her hair is falling over her shoulders in beautiful waves. My stomach drops when I see her smiling softly and laughing. Then I notice Baz. He’s chatting with Agatha, with a genuine smile rather than a grin or a smirk. He’s wearing black ripped jeans (jeans!!) and a light pink floral shirt that has the top two buttons undone. He looks… pretty, believe it or not. I slowly approach them, hiding behind Penny, she notices, but does not mention it; she’s used to my shenanigans by now. I can hear parts of their conversation.“-that’s great, Wellbelove, I’m happy for you.”I blink in surprise, Baz sounds genuine, which is unheard of.“And, I do apologize for… everything, it wasn’t my intention to hurt your feelings.”Aggie laughs, and Baz smiles.“It’s fine, Baz, honestly, it was partially my fault anyways.”Baz’s face flushes slightly, which I didn’t even know was possible.“I still feel bad about it though.”By now, Penny’s had enough of me, and has started mingling amongst the eighth years. She’s chatting with Rhys and Gareth now.Agatha laughs and I glance back at her and Baz.“Aww,” she coos, “Baz Pitch is a sap.”Baz rolls his eyes, blushing,“If you tell anyone, I’ll kill you.”Normally Agatha would be pissed if someone threatened her, but instead she just laughs.“You’re silly, Basil. I won’t tell anyone… about anything. We’re friends now.”Baz looks surprised.“Are we?”“Of course. You don’t really get a say in the matter.”Baz rolls his eyes, but smiles.“Alright, Wellbelove, we’re friends.”“Good to know, Pitch.”My eyes widen as I see Agatha pull Baz into a hug. He looks uncomfortable for a second but then awkwardly pats her shoulder. She lets go.“You’re a shit hugger, Basil.”“I’m aware. Niall told me that dozens of times when we were kids.”Agatha laughs, and by now, I’m fuming.I walk up to the two, ignoring the magic bubbling on my skin.Agatha
I must admit, I was surprised when Basil started talking to me. For once he wasn’t flirting, he was just being friendly, and it was nice. Simon doesn’t give him enough credit sometimes. In all actuality, Baz is a very nice boy, he is sarcastic, but in a playful way, and I’ve seen firsthand that he’s really soft with his friends. He also apologized for flirting with me for years, which I thought was funny. I never thought I’d see the day that Baz Pitch apologized to someone. We were chatting and having a good time, but then Simon showed up.Baz
I don’t know what I expected from this party, but it certainly wasn’t chatting with Wellbelove about how I’d led her on for years. She was surprisingly gracious about it, and then she told me that she was aromantic. It surprised me, but I was happy for her. We kept talking, but then Simon bloody Snow walked up to us and started getting mad.Simon
“Get the fuck away from her, bloodsucker!”Baz fixes me with a long, cool look. Agatha is blushing, I know she hates attention, but right now, I don’t care.“Simon, leave it.” Penny’s grabbing my arm, trying to pull me away from Baz and Agatha, but I stay right where I am.“I swear to Crowley, Baz, if you touch her, I’ll-”Rhys cuts me off by clapping his hands.“Okay, everyone, let’s play a game! How about… ‘Never Have I Ever!”Baz
Oh, shit.Agatha
Oh, shit.Penny
Oh, shit.Simon
Perfect.
----- CHAPTER BREAK -----
Agatha10 minutes later, we’re all sitting in a circle on the floor. I can feel Simon glaring at me from across the circle, his eyes narrowed. I can feel my face heating up under the intensity of his stare. Baz glances at me and I give him a weak smile. He raises an eyebrow and then looks at Simon, who’s now glaring at him. Baz rolls his eyes, and I laugh softly. Penny puts her hand on Simon’s arm, and he looks down at the floor, flushing.Rhys starts talking, and I finally tune in.“Okay, everyone! I’m assuming you all know how this game works, you say something you haven’t done, and if someone has done it, they drink! Who wants to start?”I look across the circle and see Simon raising his hand above his head, glaring at Baz while doing so.PennySimon raises his hand and I sigh. Of course he’s going to try to get Baz to admit something. I look over at Baz, expecting him to look slightly worried, or something of the sort, but instead he looks cocky.“How about we spice things up a little?”By now, everyone’s looking at Baz.“How about…”He flicks his hand, and his wand slides from his sleeve into his hand. He flourishes his wand, grinning.“...a truth spell?”BazSnow’s expression is one of utmost confusion, and it’s taking all I have in me to not laugh. I don’t care if I use a truth spell, I don’t have anything to hide, let alone from Snow. I look at Bunce, and she looks intrigued. I grin, and twirl my wand.“The truth will set you free!"SimonWhat is he playing at?
----- CHAPTER BREAK -----
BazSnow smiles from across the circle, and he takes a deep breath.“Never have I ever…”He looks directly at me.“...tried to steal someone’s girlfriend.”I raise my eyebrow at him.“Baz?” Bunce prompts, tilting her head and looking at me.I raise my eyebrow and don’t drink.Snow looks appalled. I grin.“Yes?”“Don’t you have something to do?”“Like what?”Bunce rolls her eyes.“Drink?”I look down at my red plastic cup.“No… I don’t think I need to.”I can smell Snow’s magic swirling around.PennyI can feel Simon’s magic. I stand up, lifting my wand and holding it at Baz’s face. He raises an eyebrow.“The truth will set you free!”Simon stands up next to me.“Did you try to steal Agatha?”Baz grins. “Nope.”He pops the ‘p’, smiling at Simon’s astonished expression. This game just got interesting.
----- CHAPTER BREAK -----
SimonThis is so stupid. Baz is grinning, Niall is shaking with silent laughter, Dev is practically cackling, and Agatha is looking at Baz and laughing. I’m so pissed that my magic is swirling around me, making Trixie and Keris cough. I huff, crossing my arms, and Penny sits back down next to me.“And that’s what I call a game.” Gareth laughs.Dev eventually stops laughing, and we continue playing. I’ve learned so many weird things about my classmates and friends. I learned that Agatha has shoplifted, Gareth crashed a car, and Trixie has set something on fire accidentally.“My turn.”Penny looks like she’s lost in thought, probably trying to think of something that she hasn’t done that could expose others. She grins, clearly thinking of something.“Never have I ever… dated someone at Watford.”That was brilliant, I must admit, because Penny’s boyfriend, Micah, is American, he doesn’t go to Watford, but this question would expose some people. I look around the circle, taking a sip of my drink. I can see Trixie and Keris sip their drinks, smiling at each other while doing so, Agatha takes a sip, Gareth takes a sip, Rhys leaves his cup untouched, I know he has a Normal girlfriend. I look over and see Dev and Niall both take large gulps of their drinks and I see someone else take a sip…Baz!?BazThis is so great. I very desperately wanted my secret to get exposed to this group of dipshits. The only people who know about my boyfriend are Dev and Niall, and they only found out three weeks ago. Agatha looks at me, raising an eyebrow, and I roll my eyes and grin at her.“Niall, you’re dating someone at Watford?”Niall smiles brightly and answers Keris’s question.“Yeah, I’m dating Dev.”The group erupts in squeals and cheers, (people have been shipping those two for years) and Dev smiles at Niall. The two grasp each other's hands and smile wider than I’ve ever seen them. Niall kisses Dev on the cheek and I roll my eyes, already having put up with their cute behavior for half a year. It’s sickening, I tell you. (even though I am happy for them.)I look across the circle and see Snow glaring at me. Bunce is also looking at me, confused. I sigh. I’m going to have to explain myself, aren’t I. I hear Wellbelove from beside me.“So… you’ve dated someone at Watford, is that right Baz?”I roll my eyes, about to talk, but then Dev chimes in.“DatING, Baz is currently dating someone at Watford.”I can feel my face heating up under the scrutiny of Snow’s gaze.“Yes… I’m dating someone at Watford.”
----- CHAPTER BREAK -----
BazA day after the party where my secret was revealed, me and Carter are sitting together outside. His head is in my lap and I’m playing with his light brown hair. He twiddles his thumbs and looks up at me with his pretty green eyes.“It’s too bad that you had to miss the party. I wish you’d have been there.”He smiles at me.“I know,” He sighs, “But I wasn’t feeling good.”I hum in confirmation.“Did anything interesting happen?”“I told them that I was dating someone at Watford.”Carter sits up and looks at me.“No way! That’s great!” He smiles brightly, revealing the gap between his front teeth.I grin.“Yeah?”“Yes, you oaf!” He swats my arm. “That makes me really happy.”I smile softly. Carter can make me break down my emotional walls with just a smile.“I’m glad.”He leans forward and kisses me on the cheek. I smile.“Let’s go to your room, yeah? It’s starting to get chilly out here.”CarterBaz is amazing. He makes me smile, laugh, and he helps me when I’m struggling in Magic Words (and that happens a lot). I didn’t know him very well when we first met, all I knew was he was the Pitch’s Heir, and that he was an arsehole. Turns out, everyone was wrong. Baz is sweet, a little bit sarcastic, but that’s part of his charm. We met this Summer at the Club, we played a round of tennis, and by the end of the day, we were inseparable. He’s fabulous, but sometimes I feel like we’re more best friends than boyfriends. Oh, well. He makes me happy, and that’s what matters.Me and Baz walk to Mummer’s house hand in hand. I’m more hyper than he is, so I’m swinging our clasped hands back and forth between us.Baz opens the door to his room and beckons me inside with a grand gesture. I laugh, and step inside. I love Baz’s room. It smells like him, he has good books, and his roommate’s always gone on missions for the Mage. Simon Snow. The Mage’s heir. I can tell Baz doesn’t like him, but that’s just because their families are at war. If it wasn’t for the war, I think Baz and Simon would be dating by now. When I said this to Baz, he laughed so hard that he started crying. He said that Simon was cute, but he wouldn’t date him. Especially not when he’s dating me. That made me smile, so I kissed him on the cheek and his face turned red. It was cute.BazMe and Carter are very cuddly. Whenever we’re together, we’re always hugging, or just holding each other. We both need someone to ground us, and we act as that for each other. I pull out my laptop and Carter settles himself in my lap, between my outstretched legs. He leans his head back on my shoulder, and I start playing a movie on my laptop. It’s ‘the Princess Bride’ , one of Carter’s favorites, and now he’s gotten me hooked. My and Carter are the opposite, he’s kind of short while I’m tall, he has wavy light brown hair while I have straight black hair, he’s hyper, I’m calm, he’s has tan skin and I’m pale as a corpse (which I guess I am). Carter knows I’m a Vampire, but he says he doesn’t care, because I’ve never (and will never) hurt a person. I appreciate him for that. I can tell he’s getting restless though. He keeps fidgeting and looking around.“Hey, what’re those?”He points at my glasses on my bedside table, and I snatch them away.“Nothing.”“‘Nothing ‘, my ass. You wear glasses?”I sigh. “Yes.”Carter laughs and takes them from my hand, and I pause the movie. He turns around, still between my legs. He puts the glasses on, and fuck, does he look cute in them. He looks into the screen of the laptop to see his reflection, and I laugh at his abashed expression.“I look so fucking stupid!”I laugh again. “No you don't, you look… cute.”He flushes slightly and I laugh more, grinning, and pretty soon, he’s laughing too. Then the door opens.SimonIt’s been a hell of a long day. I can’t wait to have a shower and go to bed. On my way up the stairs, I hear laughing coming from my room. That’s weird. Maybe Dev and Niall are visiting Baz, although Baz usually goes to their room rather than ours. I open the door and am faced with the most confusing sight I’ve ever seen. Baz and a guy who I recognize, but who’s name I don’t remember, are laughing loudly, grinning at each other. Baz looks up and sees me, his laughter dying and smile fading. I’ve never seen Baz smile before, it’s really pretty. The other guy sees me and gets off the bed, crawling out from in between Baz’s legs. The sight of them together makes my stomach churn. Maybe I’m hungry. That must be it.“That’s my cue.” Mystery guy says.Baz stands up and follows him to the door, opening it for him. The act makes my face warm.“Bye.” Baz says to Mystery guy.Mystery guy smiles and takes the glasses off his face, before gently placing them on Baz’s crooked nose. Baz sniffs, wrinkling his nose adorably, and Mystery guy laughs.“Bye, Cutie.” He says, winking.Baz’s face heats up.“Don’t call me that, Carter. Bye.”He smiles at Mystery guy as he leaves.I can’t help but wonder what Baz’s girlfriend thinks of Carter. Him and Baz seem awfully close. Carter. I already know that I hate him.
----- CHAPTER BREAK -----
Simon
I can’t stop thinking about Baz and Carter. They seem… too close. Like right now, they’re eating breakfast together, and Baz is actually eating. That’s how comfortable he is around Carter. I feel my stomach churn. I must be hungry. I start chewing on a sour cherry scone while I wait for Penny. She shows up about 5 minutes later, and as she sits down across from me, she raises an eyebrow at me (it’s annoying that her and Baz can do that).“What’re you looking at, Si?”“Nothing.”“Are you sure? Because it looks like you're ogling Baz and his boyfriend.”My head snaps up, and she grins, knowing she’s gotten my attention.“Baz and Carter aren’t dating. Baz literally said he has a girlfriend.”Penny hums noncommittally.“Did he, though?”I wrack my brain, trying to think. I distinctly remember him saying he was dating someone at Watford, but he didn’t say who it was.“I mean, he didn’t say he had a girlfriend, but it was implied.”“How so?”“He’s straight, Pen. He was literally chasing Agatha for years.”“No, he didn't, remember?”“Right, I guess so, but he has a girlfriend, Pen. Carter’s just his friend.”She rolls her eyes.Penny
I love Simon (platonically, of course,), but sometimes he’s fucking stupid. Carter and Baz are clearly dating, they’re always clinging to each other, and Baz flushes whenever Carter calls him a pet name. Simon’s also fucking stupid because it’s clear that he his head over heels in love with Baz Pitch. I don’t tell him this, of course. He’ll figure it out on his own.“Pen, he’s very clearly not dating Carter.”I turn around in my seat, looking at the two. Carter is leaning on Baz’s shoulder, reading from the book that Baz has perched upon the water jug. It looks so wonderfully domestic that I get an ache in my chest. I miss Micah. It’s not fair that Baz gets a domestic and casual relationship, while me and Micah are fighting just to stay in contact.I look back at Simon, and he’s glaring at Carter, his cheeks red. I sigh. He’s so fucking oblivious.Baz
Why the fuck does Snow keep staring at me?
----- CHAPTER BREAK -----
CarterMe and Baz have been hanging out almost every day now. His presence is comforting. And sure, he’s hot as hell, but I still don’t feel ‘attracted’ to him, per say. We hardly ever kiss, and when we do, it’s typically just on the cheek or forehead. It’s wonderfully domestic, but it still doesn’t feel like romance, it just feels like best friends.“What do you wanna do?”Baz is laying on his bed on his back, his head hanging off the side and legs propped on the wall. I love how he doesn’t feel entitled to be pretentious around me. He’s casual. It’s nice.“I don’t know.” I admit, from my spot at Baz’s desk.“Do you wanna go to the kitchens? I have a key.”“Why would we go to the kitchens?”“I don’t know. Maybe we could get some snacks and watch a movie? Snow’s on some sort of mission for the greater good or whatever. He’ll be gone for a while, so you could stay here tonight.”I look at Baz with a questioning look dawning my now warm faceHe blushes. “Not like that, Carter, get your head out of the gutter.”I roll my eyes and respond.“I don’t know. The kitchens are sooo far away.”I make the ‘o’ last as long as possible to irritate Baz further.“I’ll just make you come with me.”“Oh yeah? How?”Baz grins and walks over to me. He stands over me as I sit on his chair.“What’re you going to do, Basil?”He lifts me up and throws me over his shoulder like a sack of potatoes.“You fucking Vampire! This is cheating! You have superhuman strength!”“Say it louder, Carter, there’s people in Ireland who didn’t hear you.”“Sorry…”Baz looks uncomfortable. “There's nothing to be sorry about, Carter. It’s fine. No one can hear us, Dev and Niall soundproofed this room ages ago. They were sick of hearing me and Snow scream at each other all the time.”I giggle from my spot over Baz’s shoulder.Baz opens the door, still holding me in place. He starts walking down the stairs, and I start trying to get more comfortable on his bony shoulder.“Stop fucking wiggling. I’m going to drop you if you keep doing that, and I’d rather not break your neck on the steps.”I roll my eyes.“Please, you wouldn’t drop me.”“Damn right.”We keep chatting and laughing on our way to the kitchens. When we get there, Baz stops walking, his body rigid.“What’s wrong?”I can’t see forward because I’m still on Baz’s shoulder.Baz lifts me off of him and deposits me on the ground next to him, I stumble slightly, but he rightens me.In front of us stands Simon Snow. His mouth is open and his face is red.“Excuse me, Snow.”Baz steps past him, gripping my hand. I squeeze his fingers and he relaxes slightly. I smile.SimonI never realized how strong Baz was. He’s holding Carter over his shoulder like it’s nothing. It’s… kinda hot. Wait, no, Baz isn’t hot, that’s silly. He’s just… really attractive, strong, and smart, and…Oh, shit.I have a crush on Baz.And he has a girlfriend.I’m so fucked.
----- CHAPTER BREAK -----
SimonThis is bad. This is really bad.I have a crush on Baz.How could this happen? How could I let this happen?I like Baz.No, scratch that. After a lot of thinking and careful consideration, I think I love Baz.This is terrible. I need to talk to Penny.I run to Cloisters and throw a rock at Penny’s window. It’s past curfew, but I bet Penny’s still awake. Plus, I’m the Mage’s heir. No teacher would dare question what I’m doing late at night walking around. They’d probably think I was hunting goblins or something like that.Penny opens the door to Cloisters and steps out.“What’s wrong, Simon?”“Can we go to the library to talk?”“Why not your room?”“Baz and Carter are in there.”“I see…”Penny grins and raises her eyebrow at me.“What?”She smiles and starts walking towards the library.“Oh, nothing. It’s nothing, Simon.”PennyIt’s definitely something. Something about Baz, I daresay.Simon’s face is beet red, so I can only assume he’s figured out his feelings for Baz.I’m excited to hear what he has to say to me, though.BazMe and Carter are curled up on my bed, watching a movie on my laptop and eating salt and vinegar crisps. It’s nice. I’m not sure I’ve ever been so warm.At the same time, I can’t stop wondering about what Simon was thinking when he saw me and Carter. Does he think we’re dating? Does he think we’re just bros-with-benefits? (there are no benefits, not in that circumstance. Neither me nor Carter are ready for that.)What was he thinking?SimonI walk back to Mummer’s after a long talk with Penny. I’m still not sure what my sexuality is, but I can hear Penny’s words echoing around in my head:‘Ask him if he and Carter are dating! If yes, then he’s gay, if no, then he’s straight! It’s that simple, Simon!’Then I’d asked her how that would possibly benefit me. If he is dating Carter, therefore gay, then he wouldn’t be interested in me!She said it wouldn’t hurt to ask.I hop up the stairs to my room, two at a time. With every step I take, the same word pops into my brain.Baz. Baz. Baz.I want to be Baz’s boyfriend. I want to watch movies with him on his forbidden laptop. I want to snuggle with him and eat salt and vinegar crisps. I want him to throw me over his shoulder and carry me around like he did with Carter.Baz. Baz. Baz.What me and Baz have right now… a rivalry. It isn’t enough. I want more. I want him.I open the door to my room and see a sight that makes my stomach drop.Baz and Carter, fast asleep in Baz’s bed together. Carter has his arms around Baz. And Baz is smiling softly in his sleep.I feel my face flush. Tears spring to my eyes.I want Baz.But I’ll never have him.—--------—After a sleepless night of mostly watching Baz and Carter, I get out of bed at four in the morning. No point in having an awkward encounter with the two boys, who I know now are definitely dating. I sigh and put on my uniform. This is going to be a shitty day, I just know it.—--------—A few hours later, I meet up with Penny at breakfast. It’s hard to explain how I’m feeling, but she gets it.“Si, it’s alright that you have feelings for Baz, alright? We already talked about this; it’s not a bad thing.”“I know, Penny, but he and Carter seem so happy together! I don’t want to ruin that by butting my head into things like always.”Pen nods.“So you finally figured out that Baz and Carter are dating.”I nod miserably.“What are you going to do about it?”That is the question. What am I going to do about it?And the answer is:Nothing.I’m going to do nothing.
----- CHAPTER BREAK -----
CarterThat’s it. I need to break up with Baz. I love him, just… not in a romantic way. I want to be his friend, not his boyfriend. And I think he feels the same way about me. I've been putting this off for a while, because Baz hasn’t done anything wrong, I just can’t give him what a boyfriend should. And he deserves to know that.I just… don’t want to hurt him.But despite that, I’m going to tell him.He needs to know.BazCarter corners me after class. I can tell he wants to tell me something because he’s been acting paranoid and awkward all day. That’s his tell.“Baz… I…”I tilt my head and look at him. I think I know what’s happening.“I love you.”I’m caught off guard. That is not what I was expecting. I don’t know how to respond.“Carter-”He cuts me off.“Just not in a romantic way. In a friend way.”I let out a breath I didn’t even realize I was holding in.Carter’s avoiding my eyes and I realize that I haven’t said anything yet.“Carter, that’s alright. In all honesty, I feel the same way.”He smiles at me.“Really?”“Yes, really.”“Can we still be friends?”“I’d be disappointed if we weren’t.”Carter grins.“That’s great! Thank you, Baz.”He pulls me into a hug. He’s relieved. We both are.Out of the corner of my eye, I see Snow walk out of the classroom. He glances over at me and Carter hugging and his face turns pink.He catches my eye and then scampers away, I can hear him muttering under his breath.Curious.SimonTypical. Of course this happens. Right after I work up the courage to maybe flirt with Baz, I see him and Carter hugging. They’re so happy together.I could never give Baz that. With my face heating up, I run to the Wavering Woods.I need some time to think.
----- CHAPTER BREAK -----
SimonAfter a few hours of hacking away at some trees in the Wavering Wood with my sword, I’m finally ready to head back to my room and see Baz.I put away the Sword of Mages and walk back to Mummer’s house, expecting the worst.I don’t see the worst.I see Baz sitting on his bed, wearing some extremely cute glasses and reading a book.He looks up at me and raises his eyebrow. My breath gets caught in my throat. Crowley, he’s attractive.I’m so fucked.BazMe and Carter talked for a while after our mutual breakup. We’re still friends, which is good. He also said some things that got me thinking.I might have a crush on Simon. And I think I have had one for a while.I’m so fucked.Simon“Welcome back, Snow. Did you have fun committing mass deforestation?”“Piss off, Baz.”He sits up, pushing his glasses up to the top of his head.“No, seriously, why the fuck were you shredding the forest?”I sigh, sitting on my bed.“Why does it matter, Baz?”He rolls his eyes.“You’re right, I was being silly. Why would I possibly be curious about why the Chosen One is destroying the Wavering Wood? I’m being ridiculous. Pardon me.”He puts his glasses back over his eyes and starts reading again. He’s insufferable. But very cute in those glasses.Baz“So, how are you and Carter doing?”I look up at Snow. He’s staring at the ceiling, pointedly avoiding eye contact. There’s a blush on his cheeks. He looks adorable.“Pray tell, what do you mean?”He rolls over on his bed, looking at me.“You and Carter. You’re dating, right?”Maybe he’s not as stupid as I thought he was. He figured me and Carter out. I thought that he thought that I was straight. As if.“Not anymore.”“Seriously?”“Yes, Snow, seriously. We’re better off as friends. I’m capable of having those, you know.”“I’m aware… I just… thought you guys were happy together.”I let out a long-suffering sigh.“Why would it matter to you Snow? Are you jealous that I was dating someone?”He turns bright red.“Why would I be jealous?” He squeaks.“You tell me.”“I’m not jealous!”“Alright, Snow. It was just a joke.”I turn back to my book.Snow rolls over and falls asleep in his uniform. He must be tired. He’s so pretty.Fuck.
----- CHAPTER BREAK -----
SimonWhen I wake up I realize three things:I’m in my uniformBaz isn’t in the roomMy blanket is over meThe third one is probably the most puzzling. Did Baz tuck me in? No way, right? I probably just did it while I was asleep. Which I guess is weird, since I run hot, but maybe I got cold in the middle of the night.I look over at the clock. It’s three in the fucking morning. Where is Baz? I sigh and lay back down on my bed, letting the breeze from the window mess up my hair.Wait a second. The window was definitely not open when I fell asleep. So that means someone closed it for me.And it was someone who knows I sleep with the window open. And there’s only one person who knows that…BazWhen I get back from the Catacombs, Snow is sitting up on his bed, arms crossed, glaring at me. I look down at my watch. It’s three in the morning, why in Crowley’s name is Simon awake?“Baz.”“Snow.”“Where were you? Were you in the Catacombs drinking rats?”“No.”“A likely story. Were you with Agatha?”I choke on my own spit and start laughing so hard, tears come to my eyes.“Crowley… you think I was hooking up with your Ex-girlfriend a few hours after I broke up with my boyfriend? I know you don’t think highly of me, but this is insane.”Snow looks away, now glaring at the floor.“Not only that, but Agatha isn’t interested in me, like, at all.”“What? She literally flirted with you! And you flirted back!”“Snow, I am going to say this once and only once. I am not interested in Agatha Wellbelove. She is not interested in me. I am not interested in any of the girls at this school. Scratch that, I am not interested in any girl in the world.”“How could you not be attracted to Agatha? She’s gorgeous!”“Snow, I’m gay. I literally had a boyfriend.”“I know, but can’t you like both?”“Yes, but I don’t. I’m gay. End of story. Now please let me sleep.”Snow rolls his eyes and I get into my bed, putting my glasses on my desk.“Did you open the window, Baz?”I look over at him.“No.”He scoffs.“You’re the only person who knows I sleep with the window open. So why’d you do it, Baz?”“Shut up, Simon, it doesn’t matter.”“Of course it matters, it- did you just call me Simon?”“No.”“Yes you did! I heard you! I-”I point my wand at him.“Cat got your tongue!”He glares at me.“Go to sleep, Snow.”He does.I fall asleep to the sound of his breathing.
----- CHAPTER BREAK -----
Simon
When I wake up, the window is still open. And once again, Baz isn’t in the room. I roll over and look at the clock. It’s noon.I sit straight up, and immediately feel dizzy. I think I might be sick.I stumble over to the window and open it even wider. I try to take deep breaths, but I feel like my lungs can’t get full. I gasp, and grip the window sill so tight that my knuckles turn white. I feel my eyes start to water. Why can’t I breathe? My vision is swimming. Maybe I shouldn’t have stood up.Suddenly, I feel a hand lightly touch my back.“Penny?” I ask.“No, it’s Baz.”I whirl around, stumbling slightly.Baz grips my shoulders to keep me from falling over.“Easy there, Snow. I’m not going to hurt you. You need to rest.”I nod, feeling pitiful. Baz guides me back to my bed, and I lay down, curling in on myself.Baz pushes some of my curls from my face and presses the back of his hand to my forehead.“You have a fever.”“Wow, I didn’t realize.”Baz sighs and walks into the bathroom. He comes back with a glass of water and hands it to me.I drink it slowly, avoiding looking at him. I can’t believe he’s helping me.Baz
Snow looks sickly. When I woke up this morning, he was tossing and turning. I walked over to him and realized he had a fever. A bad one. He still does. And cursing my compassionate heart, I decided to help him.I wasn’t going to, originally, but when I walked in, he couldn’t seem to breathe, so I did what seemed like the right thing, which was to help him.I can’t tell if he likes that or not.Simon
Baz looks lost in thought. I’m about to thank him for helping me when Penny bursts through the door, pointing her ring at Baz.“What did you do to him, Pitch?”Baz rolls his eyes.“I didn’t do shit, Bunce. Snow’s sick.”“I can see that. Did you curse him?”“If I were to curse him, I would make it a lot worse than a fever.”“Hey!” I rasp.Penny looks over at me, and rushes to my bedside.“Are you alright, Si?”“Sort of. I mean, I’m sick, but I’m alright.”She exhales in relief. Then she turns to Baz.“You’re lucky you didn’t hurt him, Basil.”Baz throws his hands up in mock surrender.“Oh no,” He says drily. “I’m so lucky.”Penny rolls her eyes.“I’ll get you something to eat, Simon.” She says, turning and leaving.“If that’s all,” Baz says. “I’ll be leaving.”“Thanks, Baz.”He stops at the door, his palm resting on the handle. I swear I can see him smile softly.“Don’t mention it, Snow.”He opens the door.“Seriously, don’t mention it.”And with that, he’s gone.
----- CHAPTER BREAK -----
BazAbout a week later, Snow is back up and causing chaos. Honestly, that boy is a walking headache. While he was sick, I mainly slept in the Catacombs. I didn’t want to bother him. Me and Carter have been hanging out a lot. Now that we don’t feel obligated to be with each other all the time, it’s been way less awkward.“Baaaaaz.”I look up and see Dev and Niall across from me, eating breakfast.“What.”“Me and Dev were thinking… what if we had a movie night?”“What do you mean?”Dev pipes up.“We could hang out in someone’s room and watch a movie.”Dev and Niall both look at me.“I’m assuming you want to watch it in my room, would that be correct?”“Yes.”“Why am I not surprised?”“Because your room is bigger and you have a key to the kitchen so you can get snacks.”“Fine.”“Thank you Bazzy! You’re the best!”“Please don’t call me that, Niall.”Dev and Niall both start cackling. What have I gotten myself into?SimonAfter breakfast, I go back up to my room. I still feel kind of sick, but I’m trying to stay strong. It’s Saturday, so there are no classes. I’m free to do whatever I want. But that’s just the thing. I don’t know what I want to do.A few minutes later, Baz walks into the room, looking as regal and attractive as ever. Be still, my heart. He looks over at me and nods. Then he picks up a book, puts his glasses on, and starts reading.“Do you have any plans for tonight?”I startle at the sound of Baz’s voice.“No…”“Well, Dev, Niall, and I were thinking of watching a movie tonight. They wanted to do it here because our room is bigger. Do you want to join us?”“...Sure?”“Great. Feel free to bring Bunce along.”“She-”“I know she comes in here while I’m gone, Snow.”“Oh.”Baz clears his throat and looks at me expectantly.“What?”“Are you coming to movie night?”“Sure, I guess.”“Alright.”My heart is racing. What in Crowley’s name did I just get myself into?
----- CHAPTER BREAK -----
PennyI say this as a friend, but Simon Snow is an idiot. He’s been fussing over his hair for the last half hour. As if he’s made any difference at all. It still looks unruly as ever.“Does this look okay?”Simon slowly spins around, showing me his outfit.“It’s literally a T-shirt and jeans, Simon.”“I know, but Baz is always well dressed and I want to look good.”“Oh… so this is about Baz.”Simon’s face turns red.I laugh loudly.“Yes, Simon, it looks fine. Just have fun.”Simon grumbles but gives me a slight smile.I give him two thumbs up and grin widely.SimonI’m so nervous for tonight. I know I shouldn’t be nervous. It’s just movie night with friends (do I consider Baz, Niall, and Dev my friends? I don’t know.)But I’m nervous anyways.BazSimon looks amazing. Me, Dev and Niall have just walked into the room, and my eyes are immediately drawn to Simon. Even in a T-shirt and jeans, he’s still beautiful. I don’t know how I didn’t notice that I was falling for him earlier.“What movie are we watching, boys?” Bunce chimes in from the floor.“Are you sitting on the floor? How is that comfortable?”“I’ve spelled it soft, Niall. And you didn’t answer my question.”“I think Dev is picking the movie.”“Damn right I am.”Dev pulls out his laptop and imitates trumpet sounds.“Presenting… Baz’s favorite movie!”Oh no.SimonI don’t what I was expecting Baz’s favorite movie to be, but it wasn’t this.“‘Pitch Perfect? Honestly, Basil, you don’t cease to amuse me.”“It’s a good movie, Bunce, so can it.”“I get that, but still…”Niall cackles. “Please, Baz is such a theater and movie nerd. It’s almost painful how much of a gay cliche he is.”Baz hums. “It’s true. I don’t deny it.”“I still can’t believe Snow thought you were trying to steal Wellbelove.”“Hey!” I yell.Dev and Niall both snort and Baz rolls his eyes.I can tell that Penny isn’t done interrogating Baz, though.“What are your top three favorite movies, Basil.”Baz pauses while Dev and Niall start snickering.“Probably… Pitch Perfect, and then… Twilight?”Penny starts laughing.“Twilight? Nicks and Slicks, Basil, are you being serious?”Dev starts laughing so hard that tears fill his eyes.“This is the skin of a killer, Bella.” Niall quotes, while laughing.“Let’s start the movie, boys.” Baz grumbles.—--------—About an hour later, Baz is humming along to the movie and Penny is fast asleep. The movie switches scenes.“Get your head out of your ass, it’s not a hat.” Baz chimes in with the movie.“Do you have this memorized?”“Yes, Niall, I was a fifteen year old closet case. This movie was like the holy bible.”Niall cackles.“You were a lame-ass fifteen year old.”“You’re a dick, Dev.”“You are what you eat.”Baz slaps Dev across the face with his pillow.I start laughing. So does Niall.“This movie is great.” I say, still laughing.“See? Someone here has the right mindset!” Baz yells.“You’re siding with Snow on this?”“Yes, because he’s the only one here with taste.”“I like this movie too, arsehole!”“Don’t be a suckup, Niall!”“Fuck you, Dev!”“Fuck me yourself, dick!”Baz hits Dev with his pillow again.Dev screeches loudly.“Shut up, you’re missing the movie!”Me and Niall start laughing again.Baz“Oh, her eyes, her eyes make the stars look like they’re not shinin’” I sing along in time with the movie.Simon looks over at me.“Do you honestly have this movie memorized?”“Hell yes.”“You’re good at singing.”I can feel Dev nudge me from his spot next to me on the floor. I feel my face flush.“T-thank you.”SimonA little while later, the movie starts coming to a close.I’m just starting to drift off when I hear Dev, Niall and Baz all yell.“Ew! Heterosexuals!”“Gross, straight people…”Niall starts making fake gagging sounds.I look over at the screen and see the characters Beca and Jesse kissing.“Gents, there are two straight people right here.”At Dev’s words, Baz and Niall look over at me.“Whoops, sorry, Snow.” Niall says.“It’s fine. And… I’m not straight anyways.”“WHAT?”“Yeah… I’m not straight.”“Are you.. Bi?” Dev asks.“No, I just go by queer.”“How’d you know you were queer? Is there a boy-y?” Niall sing-songs.I feel my face flushing.“Oh my Crowley! There is!”Shit.—--------—After my initial embarrassment, Niall leaves me alone about my crush. Thank Crowley, because I’m not sure how I’d be able to handle Baz finding out about my infatuation with him.Niall nudges my arm. “Don’t sweat it, Snow. I was in love with Dev for four years before we started dating. Granted, it was a bit terrifying being in love with your roommate, but you don’t have to worry about that, unlike me.”Oh, the irony.“Don’t worry,” Baz quotes from the movie. “It’s just God punishing you for being a ginger.”“Oi! Watch it, Pitch!”“It’s from the movie! I didn’t come up with it!”“Even then, I didn’t choose to be a ginger!”“Obviously, because then you wouldn't have chosen it.”Niall hits Baz with his pillow.“Niall’s hair isn’t as bad as yours, Baz.”“What do you mean?” I ask Dev.He laughs.“Okay, so one Summer…”Baz muffles Dev’s voice with his pillow.Niall finishes for Dev.“... One Summer Baz dyed his hair purple!”Dev and Niall start laughing.Baz blushes.“I thought it was a good idea!”“You were drunk!”“And it wasn’t your idea, it was Fiona’s!”Baz shrugs.“I sincerely hope you have pictures.” I deadpan.“Believe me, I do.” Dev says.He pulls out his phone. Then he looks at me, worriedly.“Don’t worry, I won’t report you to the Mage.”He exhales and shows me a photo.I laugh quietly, but honestly, Baz looks fantastic with purple hair.
----- CHAPTER BREAK -----
BazA few hours later, Dev, Niall and Bunce are all gone and Snow is laying on his bed, staring at the ceiling. He rolls over and looks at me.“I liked the movie.”I look over at him, putting my glasses on.“Seriously?”“Yeah, dude!”“Please don’t call me that.”“What? Dude?”“Yes. Don’t call me that.”Simon walks over to me. He leans in close. I feel my face flushing.“Sorry, dude.”I glare at him through my glasses.“Simon. Stop it.”“Aww, did you call me ‘Simon’, dude?”“No.”“Yes you did, dude.”“Simon.”Simon whips a pillow out from behind his back and slaps me across the face with it.“Damn it, Simon!” I yell.I hear his joyous laughter before I see his face. His cheeks are rosy and he smiles widely. I feel my own mouth tip up at the corners.SimonBaz looks absolutely gorgeous right now. His glasses are askew and his cheeks are as red as they can be. He cracks a grin and hits me with his pillow.“Hey!” I squawk, outraged. “How dare you!”He laughs, and it’s a beautiful sound.I hit him with my pillow and within minutes, we are both on Baz’s bed, hitting each other with pillows. Baz yawns and collapses on his bed. I lay down next to him. Throwing my pillow on the floor. He rolls over and looks at me.“Hey.”“Hi.” He smiles. He rolls closer to me and wraps his arms around me. He yawns into my shoulder.“Hey, Baz?”He looks up at me.“Yes?”“Can I tell you something?”“...Sure?”I look down into Baz’s stunning gray eyes.“I think I’m a little bit in love with you.”
----- CHAPTER BREAK -----
Baz
“W-what?’I curse myself in my head. That was such a rude response.Simon stays silent. He looks pained.“Simon…”He flinches.“Please don’t call me that.”“Call you… what?”“Simon. Don’t call me Simon.”“Why not?”“I just… don’t call me that.”“O-okay. But what did you mean earlier? That you…”“Are a little bit in love with you?”“Yeah. That. What did you mean by that?”“I meant exactly that. I’m in love with you, Baz. I have been for a long time.”Simon
Baz stays silent as he studies me. Then he reaches over and starts running one of his hands through my hair. My eyes close without me thinking and I scooch closer to him. His long and graceful fingers slide through my curls. I sigh in relief.Baz chuckles softly, and I feel my cheeks heat up slightly.“Are you falling asleep?”I grumble. “Yes. Now shush and keep stroking my hair.”Baz stops petting my hair and I whine like an upset kitten. He laughs.“Simon. Open your eyes.”I open my eyes slowly, my sight readjusting to the darkness of the room.“What?”Baz puts his hand on my cheek and runs his thumb over my bottom lip. My heart starts beating faster.“I love you, too.”Baz
Simon looks at me, blue eyes shining with tears.“S-seriously?”“Yeah, seriously. I love you, Simon.”“But… what about Carter?”“Me and Carter were basically just friends, Simon. I didn’t really have feelings for him.”“Really?”“Yes.”“So… you like me?” Simon grins.“Don’t let yourself get a massive ego, Simon.”Simon laughs. “Says you.”I roll my eyes and adjust my glasses.“Hey, Baz?”“Yeah?”“Can I kiss you?”Simon
“Yes, you can.”I lean in closer to Baz, our noses brushing.“Are you 100% sure about this?”“For Crowley’s sake, Snow.” Baz mutters, before grabbing the front of my shirt and pulling me against him. He kisses me softly, and I swear that I can see stars. He pulls away, looking me in the eye, looking nervous.“W-was that okay?”“More than.”I move my head closer to his, and kiss him again. Nothing could make me move from this. And I think that I finally got the happy ending that I always dreamed of as a kid.
