Any Landing You Can Walk

The shuttle was cramped. Either it wasn't meant for this many people or there had been modifications to block part of it off. Either way, Will and Derek were crammed onto their knees with hands cuffed behind their backs and far less space between them and the guards than Will would prefer.Granted, he'd prefer at least a system between the troopers and Derek, but right then he'd take them being out of arms reach. Will took slow, deep breaths, keeping his posture upright and betraying no extra movement. Nothing to make the guards look at him.Across from him, Derek rotated his shoulders, as though there was a comfortable position when cuffed. "Could you loosen these? I think I'm losing feeling in my left arm."The trooper to Derek's left slammed the butt of his rifle into Derek's bicep, drawing a pained groan from his lips."Nope. You're right. I can still feel it."The trooper to his right slammed the butt of his rifle into Derek's stomach."Tell your boyfriend to shut up before we break his jaw."Will didn't look at the trooper who spoke to him. He watched Derek as he slowly straightened and took a shaky breath, then raised an eyebrow. And fuck, he'd really hoped it wouldn't come to this already."He's not my boyfriend." As he said the words, he pulled his hands around in front of his body, then slammed into the trooper that had spoken to him. There wasn't enough room to fight in the transport. It wasn't made for transporting large numbers of troops. It wasn't a party barge with room to mingle. It was small and cramped and both he and Derek were large men. And the stormtroopers were in full plastoid armor and carrying weapons. He ripped a trooper's helmet off and slammed his knee into the guy's face before dodging out of the way of a blast from another trooper's rifle. The rifle skidded across the floor of the transport, dropped after another trooper was slammed into him by Derek.Yeah, it figured they didn't have good trigger discipline. And now there was a gun under their feet, which didn't help.It did, in fact, help when Derek managed to wrench open a door and throw two of the troopers out to fall-. Well, Will didn't really care where they fell considering they'd hit Derek. It didn't help that at least one of them still had his rifle and shot as he fell. The transport lurched and Will held Derek's gaze for a moment before they both lunged for the hatch to the cockpit.Derek pulled the co-pilot fully over the back of his chair and flung him backward. Will had to assume the guy was now also falling for an, unfortunately, much shorter distance than the previous troopers. He didn't confirm because he was much more worried about pulling the limp body of the pilot off of the primary controls and pushing it to the floor so that he could try to keep the transport from crashing."Now the troopers get lucky and hit something worthwhile?" He grimaced and pulled hard on the controls, trying to gain some altitude or at least slow the descent. "Brace for impact!"

Will stumbled from the remains of the transport, leaning on Derek as much as Derek was leaning on him. They'd survived. He could worry about the rest later."Well, you managed to get us to the landing pad at least."He looked up and realized that Derek was right. He'd been wrong about exactly where over the city they had been when Derek started the fight. He should have known. It always worked out when Derek improvised."Chris is going to kill us.""Maybe. Do you think-?""The Shark will still fly. Come on. Reinforcements are bound to be headed this way and we've still got to get off the planet."They picked their way across the debris littering the landing pad and hurried onto the ship.Shockingly, Derek waited until they were taking off before asking, "Not your boyfriend, huh?""Well, you're not. Grab some seat." Will concentrated on flipping the proper switches to initiate vertical flight and pull in the landing gear as Derek settled into the co-pilot chair. He glanced over. "We might need a gunner for this.""Chill." Derek raised his eyebrows.Rolling his eyes, he leaned over and pressed a quick kiss to Derek's lips while trying to keep an eye on the narrow flight paths he was threading. It really wasn't the time, but well, he'd hate to die without one last kiss."Love of my life. Husband. You're plenty of things, but not my boyfriend. Be safe.""Always am." Derek grinned and slipped out of the cockpit. If he could hold it steady until he had confirmation that Derek was in the gunner seat, that would be-. Well. Chill.

"What did you do to my ship?"Will winced at Chris's incredulous cry. He'd really hoped that it wouldn't be that noticeable in the rain."Will did it." Derek helpfully pointed at him with the arm that wasn't engaged in the joint support."Do you know how long I've had Sharky? And not even a scratch until I met you guys. And now-.""And now I'll fix it. Right after I make sure the bleeding has stopped."He was, at least, fairly certain that Derek had seen to his own bandages while he navigated the hyperspace jumps to get them back home. And the stim he'd managed to take had kept him alert and functional. So, he was probably fine. They were both probably fine. It was-.A small shower of edible nuts rained down on the floor as he and Derek stumbled slightly into the table before sliding in to chairs."And that. I'll fix-.""Will?""Ayuh?" He looked up at Cait."Let us deal with some of this for a little bit."He decided it was best not to argue. Especially considering he knew she was backed up by Chris.

Both the rain and the bleeding stopped in the night and the day dawned bright and beautiful. Will paused a moment to watch his spouses sleeping, piled on top of each other, before he slipped out of the room and out of the building. Glad that he'd gotten used to finding ways to slip out from their sleepy grasps without waking them. It had been a skill he'd learned quickly the first time he needed to use the refresher in the middle of the night.Slipping the coil of an extension cord over his shoulder, he headed back to their little landing pad to start the promised repairs. It wasn't difficult work. And it was mostly surface damage. Which was lucky, because that meant that hyperspace jumps hadn't been approaching suicidal to attempt during their escape. One less thing to worry about in hindsight. He relaxed into the familiar feel of power tools and ships."So, how much was actually Derek's fault?" Chris stopped a few feet away, waiting for Will to turn off anything dangerous before approaching closer."Nah. He was right. This was probably at least seventy percent my fault.""You don't actually have to fix Sharky. I can do it. I uh-. Cait heard comm chatter about a couple of force users blowing up the landing pads?""Ayuh. Everything went pretty much according to plan with-" he broke off and gestured to encompass what they'd actually been on Coruscant to do. "Including getting captured put on a transport to quickly get back over to the landing pads. The troopers had blasters, though, and managed to kill their own pilot and damage the transport."He shrugged, then gestured at the Shark. "I misjudged how far out we were from the landing pads, but the controls were fucked anyway, so it's pretty amazing that we crashed so close to the Shark. That just, uh, meant that your ship got scraped up a bit. I think we avoided taking any hits from fighters on our way out.""I don't actually care more about Sharky than you guys.""Ayuh. I know." The corner of his mouth twitched up in a smile and he leaned in sideways to steal a quick kiss. "Haven't gotten around to marrying the ship yet.""Don't make fun of me! Come on, leave the repairs for later. I'll make breakfast."
