Emma skidded and tumbled across the pavement. The first time she’d been hit, she’d popped right back up like she’d been unfazed; she hadn’t been, it had hurt like hell that time, too, but appearances in a fight were important. The second time, when the Evil Queen threw her through the front window of Granny’s, she’d gotten up a little slower, but again, walking out the door like she could take the hit and get up had earned her a snarl from the crazy bitch with the beehive hairdo. The third hit…that one had done the damage, or she could say, the car she’d landed on and then painfully rolled off of onto the sidewalk had done the damage. Then before she’d truly straightened from that, she’d been bodily lifted and thrown at least a block until she was doing a combination of skidding and rolling through the intersection. She wasn’t able to pop back up from that, and the deep, throaty chuckle taunted her. She planted one hand and pushed herself partly up, but then her elbow buckled and she was down. She managed to swallow down her own whimper of pain, the Evil Queen didn’t need any more fuel for her crazy fire, but Emma truly worried at this point. How in the hell were they supposed to beat this bitch? And then, someone was crouching beside her. “I’m here, Emma.” Warm, healing magic flowed into her and Emma blinked. No. No, no, no, no. They’d agreed.Regina gave her a faint smile because she already knew Emma’s protests. “I am here.”“But-!”Regina couldn’t be here! The Evil Queen would kill her.Regina gently cupped Emma’s cheek. “You forget, Ms Swan, I’ve already seen the bottom. There is nothing to fear.” She leaned forward and kissed Emma ever so gently and all too quickly. Then she stood up and confronted her evil half.Pure light magic clashed over Emma’s head with the Evil Queen’s dark purple. Then Regina stepped over her and began to advance. Magic roared around them with both women throwing more magic than was wise. Ducking down, her parents rushed to Emma’s side, helping her to her feet.“What do we do?” “Nothing,” Emma answered. She tested her magic and only got sparks; Regina had only healed the worst of her injuries. The woman never did anything without purpose. “It’s up to her now.”“That much magic can’t be good,” David said. There was only a few feet of space between the two powerful sorceresses. The magic between them was blindingly bright, blurring the two figures at its center.Emma held up a hand in front of her eyes unable to look away. “Come on, Regina.”“We should probably-” Snow started, cut off by a sonic boom of magic that sent them flying back.Emma grunted, picking herself up once again. The street was silent, leaves and debris quietly falling to the ground. The light show was over and Emma blinked against shadows playing tricks on her vision. “Regina?” She could just make out a figure lying on the road. “Regina!”“Oh no.”She heard her mother’s quiet exhalation and denied what it meant. Emma scrambled to her feet, rushing towards the singular figure lying on their side on the street. “Regina?” She dropped to her knees, reaching to turn the mayor onto her back. “Regina?”There was no blood or sign of injury just stillness. Emma ripped off a glove, her hand shaking as she moved to check for a pulse.“Is she-?” Snow asked, the love she had always had for Regina clear in her voice.Emma exhaled; Regina’s pulse was strong against her fingertips. “She’s alive.” She brushed strands of dark hair back and gave her shoulder a gentle shake. “Regina, can you hear me?”Regina groaned, “Em-ma?”“I’m here.” A relieved sob escaped as Emma watched dark eyelashes flutter open. “I’m here, Regina.” She moved quickly to help her sit up. “Oh, Regina, what did you do?”Regina brought her hand to her mouth as she glanced around. She swallowed thickly. “I made myself whole.”Snow crouched down beside her. “You took the Evil Queen back inside you?”She nodded shakily, “She’s part of me. Without her…there was a hole in my heart.”Snow squeezed Regina’s hand. “Okay then.”“But, you’re okay, right?” Emma asked from behind her. It hadn’t escaped her notice how much Regina was leaning against her for support.“I’m here.” She patted Emma’s leg then looked around again. “Sitting in the middle of the street, apparently.”A nervous, relieved chuckle broke out and David helped Regina to her feet, steadying her when she swayed. She patted his arm but leaned back against Emma.“I’ve got you,” Emma offered quietly.Regina nodded; a hand held to her chest. It had been several months, but she finally felt whole again. It was enough.“You kissed me,” Emma said once David and Snow walked away to begin assessing the damage. She had and didn’t regret it in the slightest. “It was long overdue.”“It wasn’t enough.”“No?”“Not nearly enough.”Regina turned slowly; Emma’s hands rested lightly on her hips, supporting her even once they faced each other. Regina’s gaze flicked down to her mouth first before drifting up to meet green eyes watching her as they so often did; she briefly bit her bottom lip. “I’m right here.”Emma grinned before leaning closer, eliminating the space between them until their lips pressed softly together, sliding against each other with a familiarity that shouldn’t have existed. They didn’t know each other in that way, but it didn’t matter. They were here together like they’d always and never been. They pulled apart briefly, reassuring before reclaiming with urgency. Tongues slipping between lips and sliding against each other. A kiss that answered questions instead of asking, a promise that they could become home. A kiss that promised they were here; there was nothing to fear. They were both enough.
