Dean paced in Charlie's backyard, his face burning with his blush despite the cool night air. Leaning against a tree, he tilted his head back against the trunk to look at the stars peeking through the bare branches, leaves only just beginning to bud. He closed his eyes and sighed miserably.
He shouldn't have bolted. All he'd done was prove he had something to hide. Why had he agreed to play truth or dare anyway? Wasn't that for middle school or maybe high school at the most? They were twenty, for Christ's sake. What was the point? Still, he'd gotten sucked in, and hadn't seen the trap coming until he picked 'truth' and Charlie had asked him if his crush was in the room.
He'd been helpless to stop himself, his eyes darting across the room to glance at his best friend, Cas. They sat there looking gorgeous and casual, chatting with their other best friend, Meg, and Dean felt his heart clench.
He could hear the snickering start.
Whipping his eyes back to Charlie, he glared at her and did something he never thought he'd do.
He defaulted.
"Dare!" he snapped, earning him taunts and laughter from half the room, and the undivided attention of everyone.
Just peachy…
Charlie smirked at him, her eyes twinkling with mischief.
"I dare you to kiss your crush," she announced smugly, and just about everyone burst out laughing.
That was when Dean stormed out of the house, the grass cold and damp underfoot. Heckling shouts followed him, as well as one voice berating the others, telling them to leave Dean alone.
Funny that Cas was the one to come to his defense. They had no idea Dean had a crush on them, he was pretty sure, but now he'd definitely made an ass of himself, and his chances were probably nil. Who was he fooling? He never had a chance anyway. Cas was–
"They shouldn't push you. You'll ask her out when you're ready."
Cas was behind him. Dean turned slowly, clearing his throat. Wait.
Her?
"Wait, what?"
"Cassie. That is who you're crushing on, right?"
Dean looked away. Only if you counted the times he heard Cas' older brother Gabriel call them Cassie just to be a giant pain in the ass. Rather than answer, Dean deflected.
"I hate dares like that. What if… what if I'd done it, and it ruined everything? What if I lost them as a friend?" he asked, his heart aching at the thought.
"You're not going to lose her, I'm pretty sure she likes you," Cas told him, and they sounded so weirdly cheerful about it that Dean had to say something.
He rolled his eyes and turned to face Cas. "Cas. I'm not playing the pronoun game. What if I lost
them
as a friend?"
Cas stared at him, their mouth opening and closing for a minute, then they asked hesitantly, "Do you have a crush on more than one person, Dean?"
Dean blushed so hard it had to be visible even in the moonlight, but he couldn't help it. His eyes dropped to Cas' mouth for a second, and he absently brushed his thumb over his own lower lip. Cas' eyes darted down to follow.
"No. No, I don't have a crush on more than one person, Cas," he said decisively. "And it's not just a crush. I'm completely gone on them. Just one gorgeous, smart, funny, amazing person." Dean took a deep breath and went for it. "Trust me. I'd love the chance to kiss them, but not with that audience in there."
Cas' breath caught audibly, and their cheeks darkened a little. They glanced away shyly before looking back at Dean.
"So… if you had them alone, say in the yard like we are rather than in the house in front of everyone… then would you kiss them? If… if you knew they wanted you to?"
Dean's heart was racing, and he stepped closer, his hand resting on Cas' hip. "If they wanted me to?" he murmured. "Hell, anything they want, they've got it." He gently traced his fingers over Cas' jaw, their stubble rough under his fingertips. "If they want me… I'm all theirs."
Cas' hands settled on Dean's waist for a moment before their hands slid around to his back.
"And if they… if
I
want everything?" Cas asked, searching his eyes in the dark, and Dean moved.
He leaned in, his eyes closing as their lips met, and he got his first taste of Cas. Cas' arms tightened around him, the sweet honey flavour of their lip gloss infiltrating his senses, the scratch of their stubble against his intoxicating. Dean found himself with his fingers tangled in Cas' hair, then he was suddenly pressed against the tree, rough bark digging into his spine through his thin t-shirt, while Cas moulded their upper body against his.
Dean was swept away, kissing Cas deeply, utterly losing himself as Cas' tongue brushed against his lips. He opened instantly, and Cas moaned as their tongue slid past his lips to explore his mouth. Dean whimpered as Cas took him apart, every touch setting his nerves on fire. Want was building in his gut, and he knew he needed to slow things down before he completely embarrassed himself.
"Cas," he murmured against their lips, groaning as they opened again, coaxing Dean's tongue into a tangle with their own. Cas sucked on his tongue, and Dean felt his cock twitch with interest. "Mmm, fuck, Cas!"
Cas pulled back, giving him a sultry look from hooded eyes.
"Not tonight, but I definitely like that idea," they purred, and Dean groaned, pulling them in for another kiss.
Dean felt the swell of another cock brush against his hip and his mind went blank, his hands clutching at Cas, roaming down their back to grab a handful of their ass, grinding their bodies together. Cas moaned into Dean's mouth as they made out, and Dean could feel himself getting harder with every touch.
His hand slipped up Cas' back again, and he tugged on their hair lightly. He turned his head, breathless, then gasped as Cas began kissing over his throat, sucking at his pulse.
"Alright you two, get a room!"
Charlie's voice shattered the moment, and Dean felt Cas go still against him. They lifted their head to meet his eyes, and they both started to grin. Without looking away from Cas' face with those perfect, kiss-swollen lips, Dean called back.
"No problem! Which room you offering, Charles?"
Cas' husky laughter rang out, and they leaned in to kiss Dean softly.
"I've got a better idea. Come home with me."
Dean's head started nodding before he even realised he'd agreed, and he grabbed Cas' hand, tugging them back toward the house to get his boots and jacket.
Charlie rolled her eyes as they passed her on the way through the kitchen.
"Hey Handmaiden. You're welcome, by the way," she said brightly, and Dean flipped her off.
"Still dirty pool, Charles." He paused, meeting her eyes. "Don't forget I know who
your
crush is, too!"
She went pink. "You wouldn't!" she said, but Dean heard the desperation in her voice.
"Wouldn't I?" he teased.
Cas snorted and spoke up.
"Enough, you two. If it wasn't cool for Charlie to pull that, it's not cool for you to do it either," they told Dean. Dean opened his mouth to protest, but Cas kept going. "Even if we're happy with the end results, it was still a dick move."
"Hey! Don't compare me to a dick!" Charlie protested, and Cas narrowed their eyes at her. Her shoulders slumped. "Sorry, Dean. I shouldn't have pushed. It's just the pining was driving me crazy!"
Dean gave her a quick hug. "Think how I felt!" he quipped, and Cas snorted a laugh, tugging him out of the room. They quickly got into their shoes and coats and headed for the door.
At the last moment, Cas pulled Dean to a stop, their blue eyes dancing with suppressed laughter. Before Dean could ask, they lifted their voice to be heard at the other end of the house.
"Hey Meg! Time to make your move, she's into you, too!" they shouted, and Dean heard Meg swear and a squeak come from Charlie in the kitchen.
Laughing, he pulled Cas out into the night, heading for Baby.
"Didn't you just tell Charlie that was a dick move?" he asked, and Cas smirked at him.
"Unlike Charlie, I'm quite comfortable with dicks," Cas retorted slyly, dropping their eyes to Dean's crotch. They winked at him, and Dean burst out laughing again. They slid into Baby and he started her up, then turned to Cas again.
"Hey Cas, truth or dare?" Dean asked, and Cas narrowed their eyes speculatively.
"Dare," Cas answered, and Dean leaned in for another kiss.
"Dare you to fall for me," he whispered, and Cas kissed him back softly before pulling back, shaking their head a little.
"Seems like a waste of a dare when it's already done…"
Dean's heart soared.
"Are you defaulting, then?" he teased.
Cas stuck out their tongue at him.
"Truth!"
"Cake or pie?"
Cas stared at him. "That's your question?"
"It's important!" he protested, pulling away from the curb and heading south.
"Pie, clearly," Cas said, and Dean grinned.
Yup. I love them.
