Sweat dripped down the side of his face as he danced, a drink in one hand and a firm grip on Lucy’s waist in the other. They danced around each other, occasionally releasing the grip on each other to dance with someone else. Eddie was drunk. Like close to toppling over drunk . Lucy seemed to be doing the same. Which is probably why the two were the only of the group to actually get up and dance to one of the many Rihanna songs that had come on that night. The bar was flooded with gay men, lesbians, and drag queens. Hen said ‘it wasn’t a gay bar.’ but she had so clearly lied. Eddie wasn’t complaining though, most gay men were better dancers than the average drunk white woman. ‘Alright!’ Lucy slurred, both of her arms falling on top of Eddie’s shoulders. ‘I need to tap out!’ Shaking her head, She shouted over the blasting music. Eddie whined but followed Lucy back over to the group table. Buck looked at him with what was either shock or amazement, Eddie wasn’t sure, but he just smiled back. ‘What?’ He asked. Buck stuttered. ‘I- I didn’t know you could dance like that.’ ‘I told you,’ Eddie laughed. He leaned down to Buck’s level and whispered into his ear. ‘I’m an excellent dancer.’ Buck went red . ‘Here! I’ll show you!’ Eddie exclaimed, smiling wide and holding out his hand for Buck to take. Buck just looked up at him, a smirk of disbelief on his face. ‘Come on, Buckaroo!’ Chimney said, slapping Buck lightly in the shoulder. Unlike Eddie, Buck wasn’t drunk. Meaning he did not have the same level of confidence as 6-shots-deep Eddie. So he turned down Eddie. He instantly regretted it when someone else offered to dance with him instead. ‘I’ll dance with you.’ The man smiled, holding out his hand. Eddie eyed Buck and took the man’s hand. Buck just shouted ‘Have fun!’ and continued sipping his drink. Buck watched from a distance as Eddie danced with this man. He was around Eddie’s height, a little taller, closer to Buck’s. He was buff, he clearly worked out. He was wearing a ‘LAPD’ shirt, showing that he was probably a police officer. He had short blonde hair and some stubble. And Eddie seemed to be having the time of his life with this guy. ‘Jealous much?’ Karen laughed. ‘What?’ Buck asked, his head snapping away from Eddie and towards Karen. ‘No!’ He demanded as soon as he realized what she was implying. She shrugged. ‘Should’ve said yes.’ Hen muttered into her drink. ‘Shut it.’ Buck snapped back, throwing back the rest of his drink. — Buck stared at the text.

‘I think I might be gay.’
How the fuck was he supposed to respond to that?
‘Cool.’

‘Hmm, I wonder! Not like you were grinding up against guys all of last night! Totally not like you went home with a dude last night!’
  ‘You think ?’
‘Same.’
Buck was about to throw his phone at the wall.
Buck:

‘Can’t relate.’

—
The guy’s name is ‘Jack’ and he is an officer. Buck knows this because he’s sitting across from him at Eddie’s dinner table. ‘So, Buck, how long have you been a firefighter?’ Jack asked, disrupting the awkward silence that had filled the room. ‘Almost 7 years.’ Buck answered, not even bothering to look up from his plate. ‘Cool.’ Jack muttered quietly. Eddie kicked Buck in the ankle.
‘Fuck.’
 — The ring on Jack’s finger made his heart drop. Eddie had told him, of course. Fuck, Buck had helped him picked out the ring. But something about seeing it, broke Buck. Jack smiled as he pulled Buck into a hug. ‘Thanks man.’ ‘Of course.’ Buck forced out. As Jack and Eddie talked to him, all he could focus on was the way Eddie looked at Jack. Eddie looked at him as if he was Jesus Christ himself. As if he was the sun, moon, or the entire goddamn universe. Buck wanted to be the one holding Eddie’s hand, the one with a ring on his ring finger, the one who was able to go home after a long day and collapse into his arms, the one who he loved. What if he had just said ‘yes’ ? — Buck stuttered. Buck sighed. ‘Fine.’ He laughed. Setting down his drink, he took Eddie’s hand and Eddie pulled him to his feet. Buck and Eddie jumped around to Rihanna’s ‘Breakin’ Dishes’ for a moment as the song ended. It took Buck a moment to get comfortable. He hadn’t danced at a bar in a long time, let alone a gay bar. The beat to Katy Perry’s ‘I Kissed A Girl ’ filled the room.  ‘This was never the way I planned,’ Eddie gasped, throwing his hands up into the air. The dance floor around them filled with gay couples, it became very crowded very quickly.
‘Not my intention, I got so brave, drink in hand.’
The sevier increase in people caused him and Eddie to be pushed closer together. Eddie had his hands in the air and he was dancing as if no one was watching, but hell , Buck was.
‘Lost my discretion,’
Eddie draped his arms over Buck’s shoulders in the same way Lucy had done to him earlier that night.
‘It’s not what I’m used to,’
‘Will you loosen up a bit?’ Eddie laughed and Buck just laughed awkwardly in response.
‘Just want to try you on.’
Eddie’s hands moved down to Buck’s waist in an attempt to get him to actually loosen up but Buck grabbed his hands before he actually got there.
‘I’m curious for you.’
He held Eddie’s wrists in his hands for a moment, they both stared at each other. Buck looked between Eddie’s eyes and lips, they were bright red and sticky with alcohol.
‘Caught my attention.’
Buck’s not sure who leaned in first, but they met in the middle.
‘I kissed a girl and I liked it.’
Their lips crashed together, fitting together perfectly. Eddie’s hands wrapped around Buck’s wasit and Buck’s hands fell over Eddie’s shoulders. Buck pulled away almost immediately. ‘Eddie.’ He said firmly. ‘Your drunk.’ Eddie laughed. ‘No.’ He said, dragging out the ‘o’. Buck raised an eyebrow. ‘I’m sober enough to consent, now-‘ Buck slapped a hand over his mouth. ‘I’m gonna stop you right there,’ Eddie rolled his eyes. ‘We’re getting you home and then maybe we’ll speak of this.’ A muffled ‘whatever’ came through Buck’s hand. — The next morning, Eddie woke up next to a sleeping Buck in Buck’s bed. He had a vague memory of last night and was pretty sure that he hadn’t slept with Buck. ‘Wake up, jackass.’ He muttered, shaking Buck awake. ‘Hm-‘ Buck’s head popped up from the pillow. ‘Did we fuck?’ Eddie asked, rubbing his eyes. ‘Not that I’m aware of.’ Buck laughed quietly, wondering if Eddie had any memory of last night. Eddie dropped his hands into his lap and stared down at them for a moment. ‘You were pretty hammered last night, I mean I haven’t seen you that drunk since-‘ ‘Would you have had sex with me if I wasn’t as drunk as I was?’ The room went dead silent. ‘I- uh-‘ ‘Honestly, I probably would have sobered up by the time we got back here.’ Eddie laughed, trying his best to avoid eye contact with Buck. ‘Eddie.’ Buck said, resting a hand on Eddie’ thigh. ‘I wouldn’t have had sex with you if you were anything more than tipsy.’ Eddie laughed again. ‘Would you have sex with me now that I’m hung over?’ ‘What-‘ ‘I heard it helps cure hangovers and my head is absolutely pounding.’ He laughs. ‘Is that true?’ Buck asks. ‘That it cures hangovers?’ ‘Yeah, something about oxytocin or whatever.’ Eddie says, flapping his hand around. ‘Well, if it helps you.’ Buck smiles, leaning in. ‘Yeah, and nothing else.’ Eddie laughs, also leaning in. —

‘I think I might be gay.’

Buck:

‘That’s kinda gay.’
