A King and a peasant girl named Prudence stand before each other at the outskirts of a Kingdom in a place surrounded by trees and green. “King, what do you want from me? I have nothing to offer you.” Prudence asked the King, her voice squeaky like a child but also angelic like a young lady. “Girl,” The King replied, “I am well aware of what you have and what you do. You only have to prove your allegiance to myself.” He said, his voice bold and stoic like a God, in Prudence’s eyes he may as well have been. She looked at the King curiously and asked, “What do I have to do to prove that?” The King extended his left hand into the pocket of his red robe and cupped his hand as he brought it back out as if he had something. Prudence looked curiously at the King’s hand as he opened it up in front of her revealing two buds of a flower without their stems. It looked like a rose with its red color replaced with yellow. “Forgive me King, but what is this?” Prudence asked as she looked up at the King’s shallow eyes curiously. “These are Mavet flowers cut from their stems by my best gardeners accompanied by my finest knights.” The King replied.“Mavet flowers!? These might as well have been grown the devil himself! They kill you!” She exclaimed in horror as she moved three steps away. The King merely laughed at her fear. “Prudence, my dear child, do not fret. Those stories are mere gossip and fiction spread by the church to keep the people blind. In actuality, consuming these flowers show you the true reality of the world and show you the voice of god. Do not fear them, every knight in the entire kingdom has consumed them so that the voice of god may protect them in battle.” He explained. “The voices of god? Is that true?” She asked. “Very.” The King replied.
Prudence collected herself as she gathered her knew information that was given light to. After a few moments of she asked the King a question. “So, you would like me to consume these flowers in order to prove my loyalty to you?” “Correct, Prudence.” “And you say that every knight in the entire Kingdom has consumed them. . . and no harm came?” Prudence asked, trying to hide her skepticism. “You are quite the smart little girl.” The King replied in her praise. Prudence knew that the King had high expectations of her and so going against her better judgment she took the flowers from the King’s hand and swallowed them whole. The second after she swallowed the two looked at each other. Prudence’s mouth began to curve upwards in a forced and hideous smile, a smile one would make in an awkward situation when there is nothing left to say. Then, her world began to spin as she felt her body become numb and her mind filled with hysteric emotions. She fell to her knees and and wailed a horrible, inhumane sound. As if it was from some sort of animal being chewed alive by a bigger beast. She could feel the vines growing back up from her stomach through her throat in an agonizingly slow pace. Her body shook and trembled as she wrapped her arms around her own neck in an attempt of two things. To choke herself to death in order to end her suffering quickly or a pathetic and useless attempt to stop the vine growing. She toppled forward and kept her body up on her arms as the green ground below her.“Kill me. . . kill me now or else you are not just a liar but a murderer!” Prudence managed to screech out pathetically, her mouth already drowned in blood that was dripping from her lips. The King, who she had once so much admired and wished to gain approval of, stayed still and silent with a stoic and hardly shaken expression on his old wrinkled face. Prudence kept gasping for breath and she tasted the disgusting and vile taste of unbloomed petals of a flower grow up her throat and mouth. She quickly covered her mouth as she twitched and squirmed on her knees for a few moments before she let out a violent and animalistic like screech of a brutally and violent hurt girl. She could feel the movement of the flower crawl up out of her mouth, blooming beautifully as Prudence screamed and gasped. “This is it. This is how my life ends and I die. What a pitiful and stupid death. How stupid I am. Stupid to the very end, foolish girl.” Prudence said to herself, in what would be her final thought before the flower bloomed its final petal.
