On the hill, the moon was bright as the wind blew against her skirt. Lapis heard the faint heartbeat of somebody behind her, she would start to feel…anxious.“Who’s there…? I know you’re out here, come out- show yourself! I’m not afraid of you!” She would shout.Hearing some of the dead leaves crunch, a very large figure stepped out into the moonlight. They had fur and a set of ears?Lapis was truly afraid of what she was encountering but she tried to be brave.The tall figure revealed themselves to be a 9 foot tall white werewolf. Lapis couldn’t tell if it was male or female, she didn’t care…her fight or flight should have kicked in! She should have done something! But…she just froze up.“C-can you speak?” Lapis asked it, shaking.The animal just shook its head in response, indicating that it could indeed understand the young woman.“Are you here to hurt me?” Lapis began to step backwards.It shook its head again, this time with its ears down, this would make Lapis feel a little better about the situation.“I’m Lapis…” she said looking up at the thing? It didn’t look or seem feral.Lapis noticed a red collar around the other’s neck, she reached up and grabbed it. She raised a brow, “Jasper? Is that your name? Jasper?” She would run her thumb over the over the bronze tag.The doglike creature nodded its head for the first time.“Shouldn’t you be home with your owners or something then?” Lapis asked, scratching the fuzzy ears of the giant.Jasper made a loud whining sound, followed with a growl.Lapis giggled, “You’re adorable, I’m not sure why I was scared of you…listen, I can’t stay up here forever, I have to return home before sunrise…” she told them before she would turn around and start walking down the hill, returning back to her home.Jasper of course would follow the young lady.“Jasper!” Lapis turned around, startling the creature.“You have to go back home too silly! Not my home!”Jasper lowered her ears as she made a whining sound.“Fine, just the night. Then I’m making you go back to your owners or parents or whatever-“ Lapis sighed, “Pearl isn’t going to like this…”~~~~~~~~~~~~~In the cabin, Lapis let Jasper sleep on the floor next to her bed so she’d be ready to take her back home.When she awakened, Jasper was looking at her, but she wasn’t exactly the same?“Ahhh!!!” Lapis jumped up, thinking there was an intruder.“Good morning! It’s me! Jasper!” She would stand, still wearing the ripped clothing the animal wore.“What the hell…?” Lapis stared.“I uh- couldn’t speak last night…due to my uh situation.” She touched the back of her neck, feeling a bit awkward.“So you’re a shapeshifter? Why didn’t you return back home like I said?” Lapis had so many questions.“Well uh you see…I don’t really have one- anymore. Our village was set on fire and I was abandoned and now I’ve been looking for my moms and siblings.” Jasper shrugged.“I didn’t know parents were supposed to treat their children as pets.” Lapis pointed at the red collar around Jasper’s neck.“Oh! No no- these were to tell us apart during the night! My sisters Holly, Amethyst and I look alike when we shift. We aren’t pets.” Jasper shook her head.“Yeah sure…well, Jasper. You didn’t answer my question, what exactly are you?” Lapis asked.“A- I’m a werewolf…according to my mom’s that’s what me and my sisters are. My moms aren’t-“While Jasper spoke to Lapis, Lapis couldn’t exactly help but to think that she was kinda cute.“That’s nice, my friend Pearl says that I was bitten by a vampire and now I am one…I don’t exactly understand it all but I can hear heartbeats and blood flowing.” Lapis sat up on the mattress.Jasper nodded her head, “Wow…we’re so different but so alike at the same time!” Jasper smiled softly.Lapis looked up at her, “Yeah it sounds like it, let’s go have breakfast, shall we?”“Yes!” Jasper nodded her head again.

Time went on and Lapis was no longer afraid of Jasper, not that she would do anything to harm her but it still did freak her out when Jasper was in her doglike form, but only a little.Jasper would do this ‘thing’ where she would stare at her, curiously….like a small child.Pearl made the large girl some clothes, she seemed to love them.Lapis did wonder why Jasper seemed larger than other female werewolves and why she had a weird scent to her, it didn’t smell like a very feminine one.But she sort of liked her scent, she liked having Jasper around.It would be rude to ask why Jasper smelled off and why she was so big, the last thing she wanted was to hurt her feelings but her curiosity grew large.There sat the white haired girl on Lapis’ bed, holding a book upside down in an attempt to read it, thinking she understood.Lapis laughed, turning the book over for her so the letters and words faced her the correct way. “What did you do? I was starting to get it!” She whined, “No, Jasper, you were reading the book upside down.”“Dumb books and dumb words…” Jasper pouted and put the book down.“Hey Jas, I’ve been meaning to ask you something.”“What?”“Okay, don’t take this the wrong way but…how did you get so big?”Jasper hesitated, “Just born this way.” Not that it was a lie.“And…you smell like a male.” Lapis looked down.“You creatures have a sense of smell like us too?”“Hey! I’m not just some creature, I’m a vampire, and yes we have a strong sense of smell, it’s for our prey. Often, we can tell apart their sex by their scent and you my friend, don’t smell like a female.”Jasper blushed in embarrassment and shame as her heart would race rapidly, “I-I-“ she stuttered.Tears formed in her amber eyes and dropped down the vitiligo on her skin.“Jasper?!” Lapis grew worried, watching her friend cry.Jasper soon began to panic, anxiety levels through the roof. She brought her knees up to her chest and hugged them tightly.“Jasper…what’s wrong?” Lapis began to rub her back slowly.“I don’t know if I can tell you-! I don’t know how you’d react!” Jasper sobbed out.“It’s okay, you can tell me anything, I promise I’ll never judge you…who am I to judge? when humans think of me as a monster.” Lapis looked into her friend’s red puffy eyes.Fear was all Jasper could feel, she started to shake.“I’m not a real girl…”“What?! Of course you are!”“No Im not.”“I don’t understand?”“I’m a- I don’t know the words or what it’s called but- I wasn’t born a female, but I always felt like one and acted like one. My sisters always supported me but my parents didn’t. I start to hate myself more and more everyday knowing I can never change myself-““You sound like a girl?” Lapis tilted her head off to the side.“I met an alchemist, her name was Peridot I think…I always just called her Peri, she made me a potion so my voice wouldn’t sound so…deep and so I’d appear more feminine.”Lapis nodded her head “Jasper, no matter what you are, male or female…you’re still my friend and you don’t have to feel afraid, I’m not going to hurt you or judge you because of it.”Jasper could feel herself blushing, nobody but her sisters had accepted her like that before.Reaching over, she pulled Lapis into her lap, holding her. Jasper didn’t understand what Lapis was but she knew she was just like her in a way.Lapis could feel Jasper breathing against her skin softly while she relaxed in her arms, her back against Jasper’s front.Jasper closed her eyes, she began to lick Lapis’ shoulder, back and neck.Lapis immediately began squirming while yelping “What are you doing?!” She arched her back, trying to get away but Jasper held her tightly.“Cleaning you.”“I’m not!- Jasper I don’t need to be cleaned like that! Stop licking me!” Lapis almost burst out into laughter.“But…I thought you’d like it?”“Have you ever heard of a bath?”“Yeah, but we rarely do it because we rely on- y’know what I just did.” Jasper shrugged.“I think it’s very sweet of you but that’s not how we clean ourselves.”“I’m sorry…”“It’s okay, it felt kind of nice honestly but I also didn’t like it very much.”Jasper’s eyes darted away as she again started to feel embarrassed.“We really are two different beings.” Lapis almost whispered, looking out her window, the sun was going down which meant Jasper was changing.
