Love for a Sushi

Entire Work

Work Text

“You’re telling me you’ve never been here before.” Eddie opens the door for Buck, who steps through and takes in the place. There are red paper lanterns strung from plank ceilings with black and red booths to match. Their main courses are pinned to the back wall, where a conveyor belt runs through and wraps around the place, transporting small black plates with meticulously placed sushi. From an outsider looking in, it’s just another revolving sushi joint. That is until they see the— “Robot!” Buck screeches.  Eddie laughs as the four-foot machine with LED eyes hoovers over to greet them. “Welcome. Follow me.” A few moments later, they’re sliding into a booth and listening patiently as the robot goes over the basic rules and how-tos of the restaurant before taking drink orders, blinking almost unnervingly as it pauses between sentences. Almost because as it wheels away, it plays festive Christmas music. So that helps. “How are you not completely freaked out right now?” “Don’t get me wrong, it’s sort of creepy,” Eddie says, “but it’s also sort of endearing?” Buck hums appreciatively. “Plus, one accidental water spill and that thing is done for.” Buck laughs. “That’s more like it,” he remarks before focusing his attention on the belt. “So we just grab whatever we want?” “Pretty much,” Eddie says, “but they all—” Eddie doesn’t get his statement out before Buck grabs three plates from the belt. “Um, that’s not—” “This is great,” Buck says, reaching for his fourth plate. “Buck—” “Oh my God,” Buck says, moaning around a piece of sushi he plucks off one of the plates. Soon, he’s ditching his chopsticks and using both hands to shovel more sushi into his mouth at once. It shouldn’t be as endearing as it is when this bill's on Eddie’s tab today. He should put a stop to this. But then Buck grins around a mouthful of food, which should be disgusting, and Eddie’s a goner. Eddie doesn’t know how many plates go by between the two of them (mainly Buck) until the toy machine above them plays a chime. They both look up in time to see something sliding down the tube and onto the table in front of them. “No way,” Buck says as he opens the small spherical container. He holds up the figure to Eddie. “Snoopy!”  And fuck, the levee breaks for him then and there. Years of pining and lusting comes to a sharp end as Eddie leans forward and slots their lips together. Buck stifles a yelp, but it’s not long before he’s kissing him back and deepening the kiss—something Eddie would be all for, except—“Is that salmon in your teeth?!”

Needless to say, they return to the sushi restaurant the following week.
