“As a young adult, you should be trying to socialize more. Meaningful interactions with your peers will ensure proper emotional growth and social adjustment, both of which are key to success in later adulthood. Socialization is vital to maintain the ongoing emotional health and well-being of a young adult. It will aid in personal development. It will ensure that you do not simply live, but flourish in the future.”Sasuke suspects that Orochimaru read those words verbatim from a mentorship manual - there was a pinched look on his face as he stood in the doorway to recite the entire time.In response, Sasuke snorts because he’s hardly going to accept advice on socialization from someone who’s never bothered to socialize a day in his life. The Sound-nin can make friends among themselves for all he cares.Still, Sasuke appreciates Orochimaru's effort, and he decides that he can be gracious enough to reward it with honesty. “I’m not really here for personal or professional development. Selecting a mentorship in Sound was a means of escape from the fangirls in my village.”Orochimaru takes in the words with a sharp nod. “Did you, at least, practice the new jutsu I demonstrated today?”No, and Sasuke doesn’t feel guilty about not socializing, but he does feel vaguely guilty about not training terribly hard after pestering the man into accepting his mentorship request. He soldiers on and flashes Orochimaru a lazy grin from where he’s currently half-sitting, half-lying on the bed, doing his best to channel the energy of a spoiled second son.“Like I said, I’m not here for personal or professional development. I’m only here to escape a crowd,” Sasuke says. The sannin is scowling. He’s probably not aware of the expression on his face because he usually considers visual representations of annoyance beneath him. It’s oddly attractive. Sasuke has accepted that several things about the man shouldn’t be appealing but are. “And the sex,” Sasuke adds after a moment of contemplation. “I’m also here for the sex.”Orochimaru’s mouth flattens into a thin line, and he glares. The man’s too dignified to be furious, but Sasuke thinks this might be the closest he’s ever gotten. Sasuke mentally congratulates himself on having been the cause.“I don’t think,” Orochimaru forces out through gritted teeth, “that this is what your father had in mind when he agreed to send you here for a mentorship. He thought you would be learning.”“I am learning!” Sasuke protests. “Just - “ he stretches a little, and the purposeful movement tugs his shirt up enough to let a sliver of skin peek out, inviting touch - “in multiple disciplines.”“Multiple disciplines,” Orochimaru repeats flatly. Nevertheless, he steps fully into the room and closes the door behind him. It shuts with a click that makes arousal stir in Sasuke’s belly.Sasuke looks at the man standing before him through hooded eyes. “Exactly. One of them is carnal.”The corners of Orochimaru’s mouth twitch upward in a smile. It’s not exactly a friendly smile. It resembles the type of smirk he gives to enemies on the battlefield. It’s still attractive. “You really should be careful who you let into your bed,” he warns, his eyes glittering darkly with a promise. “It could be dangerous. I could hurt you.”Sasuke laughs, amused that Orochimaru is still trying for a pretense. “No, you’re too fond of me to kill me, which means that, if you, at any point, do something that I don’t like, I can tell Nii-san. And then you’d be dead.”Orochimaru looks away with a disgusted tsk. That Itachi Uchiha surpasses him in skill will forever remain a sore chink in his armor.Sasuke laughs again. Then, he reaches out to snag one of the man’s long sleeves and pulls him forward for a kiss. “So keep me satisfied.”
