Everything about this was so grotesque. Why was I roped into this? I had never wanted to be a sorcerer, in fact. I despised the entire lifestyle from the very beginning, but being the only twin with cursed energy, I guess it was bound to be. Nevertheless, I was content with living as a servant to this clan, being treated as nothing more than a second thought. It's disgusting though. Everything about this life, this clan, the people. I hate it here. Was all of this punishment from the gods for being so cruel to my sister? Weren't we supposed to stay together? No, now that I think about it, it wasn’t my fault, she's the one who left me. I remember the day that she left, denouncing the clan. Though, I couldn't forget it if I tried. I remember how angry I was at her, how frustrated I was with the entire family for making her feel this way, feel that she needed to leave to prove herself. Despite that, all I could do was cry and plead with her not to leave.I suppose I wasn't of much use to my family, but I figured even if I would finally be of use to my father, I’d still fight back as one of my own family members attacked me. I had no idea what was going on at first, but I came to my senses eventually. It was about Maki trying to help unseal Gojo Satoru. Not unexpectedly, it was about him, the three big sorcerer clans had a horrible relationship with each other, and of course my family was pleased to know that Gojo was sealed. Of course they were, if that happened, it was said that Megumi would become the head of the clan.I knew very well that Maki would come; she needed these tools. I knew she would be here, as my father said. Initially, I wanted to refuse that she would come, I wanted to believe that she would be smarter than that, that she wouldn't make such a stupid decision.
All the cursed tools were already disposed of, but how could she have known that? My mother though, she knew of all this. She was waiting outside the warehouse. I had hoped she would warn Maki or help her in any way, but that was simply wishful thinking. When she entered the warehouse, I could see every emotion and every thought she had when she saw me. Nearly motionless, lying on the ground. Fear, astonishment, anger. During the quick exchange between my father and my sister I felt so useless, a useless girl unable to do anything to help, I was weak, and I knew this very well.
When Maki had broken our father's blade, I had momentarily felt a sliver of hope. However, any flicker of it was quickly snuffed out when I noticed our father had recreated his katana with his innate technique. Maki was unaware of this and, believing she had disarmed him, got close enough for our father to deal a nearly fatal blow.We were dragged into a room filled with curses after that, grade 2 and lower. I knew of this room very well, several of the clan members I had known were thrown in here and never came back. Before we were thrown in, our father had told me that we were the reason that he wasn't made head of the clan. Ridiculous that he thought I cared to know any of that. I had only a moment to regain myself before our father left the room, declaring we were nothing but a stain on his life. Soon enough, the curses began to emerge from every inch of the room.
As I held Maki in my arms, I could tell that her heart was still beating. It was faint, like a fire in the midst of winter, but it was there nonetheless. That's right… she's always been this tough, hasn't she? She had to be, growing up protecting me from others. She had to be, to protect herself from Naoya, who tormented her almost daily. She had to be, to survive in this clan without an ounce of cursed energy. I knew, I knew that this was going to happen one day, what a pain. I never asked for any of this.Furthermore, I don't have a particularly strong cursed technique. Well, let's not sugarcoat it, I don't have a strong cursed technique at all. I never did, and this was why I was treated the way I was. I used all I could to help my sister, there's no coming back, I'm heavily wounded, I doubt even that doctor from Tokyo high could help me now. Once I do this for her, I'm going to die. She's going to be on her own after this, I wish there was something else I could do, something more to help her. But there isn't, this is the only way I can help her.I found out quite long ago, the reason twins are a bad omen for sorcerer families. To gain something, one must sacrifice something first, however, that's not the case for twins. Twins are considered one being by cursed techniques, a single entity. Therefore, she is me: and I am her. As long as I'm still here, no matter what she does to get stronger, it's going to be all for nothing. She's never going to reach her full potential.
I decided to leave her with one thing, a sword, a sword made of everything I have left. As long as she promised me one thing, to destroy everything, to abandon everything else. For her to detach herself from this family once and for all. She has no reason to stay in this clan now that I'm gone, I finally figured out why she had left that night. It was to find a way to protect me, to fix this disgusting clan. She was always so stubborn.
