Light glowed softly onto her skin. She continued to glance religiously at the time on her phone as she doom scrolled. 12:34 am ... 12:37 am ... 12:39 am ... 12:40 am ... 12:41 am ... She held her breath as she finally read 12:42 am... she was officially one year older. She wasn't as thrilled as she used to be about her birthday. In fact it was only a year ago exactly that she was full of hopes and dreams of what the next year would bring. Her previous year had been a roller coaster of emotions. In one year... she wasn't able to get a house with her ex-boyfriend because she didn't make enough. They ended up breaking up since he was an aggressive dead beat living off of her. She got a second job in order to pay her college dept. Her closest Grandma had a stroke. They tore her classroom out half way through the school year forcing her to teach on a cart. Her dad is engaged to a women two year older than her bringing in three little girls from a previous relationship. She was chewed out my her administration for some of her students getting 'C' because they want her to give everyone an 'A' even if they haven't done anything all year. They found the killer to her once-fiance's death 3 years ago and to top it all off she felt like a complete failure... ... there was a plus side though.... She found THEM. Or really they found her. She remembers it so clearly how it started a year ago. First, by becoming friends with Red at her old part-time factory job.Second, was meeting Sans at the Library when she was at college.Third, she ran into Blue at the gym, literally.Fourth, Razz had introduced himself when she stopped at a coffee shop on her trial date.She slowly met their brothers. Now she was dating them. She wasn't too sure about moving in with them, but she is currently regretting that now. She felt weight fall over her soul as being one year older had a lot of unknowns. The loneliness of not being next to her boyfriends right was growing stronger. Maybe she should call someone? She contemplated the idea, but ultimately knew they needed sleep... she will call them later. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ "But Dad I ask you and Sarah to keep an eye-... Dad I asked a month ago-... If it's been there for 3 weeks-... Happy Birthday to me." Elaina's voice could be heard in the gold shop. Hot tears threaded to fall as she hung up on her father. She had asked him a month ago to keep an eye on the mail for the letter from the insurance company. She was 26 and knew she was going to drop off, but the state she taught in wouldn't allow her to sign up for insurance until she could present the letter. Her father called to say they could in buried under a pile of books and that it was delivered 3 weeks ago. He then went on a tangent about how she had free health insurance for 26 years, how when he was her age he had two kids, how she is a grown adult and should know what to do already... all she did was ask him to keep an eye on the mail for the letter... no happy birthday... no "I'm proud of you for putting yourself through college and working two jobs on and off since 16"... just yelling and blame... Elaina found her self sobbing on the phone to her big sister about the incident. Crying in a golf closet on her 26th birthday. She didn't have much hope for the future. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ When she came home after work there wasn't anyone waiting for her. No candles, no singing, no surprises, nothing... except two cats who were begging for food. She smiled softly at her cats antics, "You guys have an auto feeder ya know?"Soft kitty cries were heard as she gave them pets and love.Her cellphone began to ring not paying attention as to who it was she answered. "Hello?"Edge's voice rang loudly through the phone demanding that she come help settle an argument him and Razz where having.Signing she agreed.Not wanting to wait any time she came over still in her work uniform.Walking up to the door of the large plantation style home she could here the arguing inside.Upon entering she could see that they everyone was split one side versus the other with Edge and Razz as the leaders."Alright what going on?" Elaina asked....
