Norwick.Katsuki huffs in agitation as he looks out the car window, a frown tugs on his lips as he tapped his foot to the song playing over the radio. His parents chat idly in the front seat, talking about nothing and everything.
Fucking Norwick.
The scenery outside the car is admittedly beautiful, lush greenery on all sides, blooming flower buds, a river running parallel to the road, and mountains on the horizon. It's still the middle of nowhere, it's just pretty nowhere.A mile marker flashes by. Another 5280 feet closer to the town his parents have decided will become their new home, Norwick. An old farm town that looks as boring as it sounds. The closer he gets the more pastures and farms Katsuki sees; the valleys dotted with herds of livestock and checkerboarded with crops."Almost there." Mitsuki chimes happily, resting her hand on Masaru's shoulder who hums in response. "Oh, I'm so excited! You both will love it here."Katsuki rolls his eyes and doesn't deign that with a response. They've already had this conversation many times over the last few months. She always says that he'll love it here, then he retorts that he doesn't want to move to some and then it dissolves into a screaming match until his father steps in or Katsuki gets sent to his room. The smattering of smaller farms and houses leading up to the town come into sight, the rest of the town quickly following. Masaru pulls the car into the gravel driveway of the new house and gets out to open the door for Mitsuki with a smile. Mitsuki jumps out and takes his hand, leading him to the front porch and unlocking the door with a giddy grin.Katsuki gets out at a much slower pace and grabs his duffel bag before walking up the front porch steps and into the house. The house is a decent size, three bed two bath with an open floorplan and a spacious kitchen, dining room, and living room. The wall paper is pealing a bit at it's edges and there's the faint remains of a child's drawing near the baseboards. He turns and walks down the small hallway to what he presumes will be his room for the foreseeable future and sets his bag on the floor near the door. He turns in a slow circle, planning out where he will put everything from the moving truck and scrutinizing the 1950's floral wallpaper with distain."Katsuki that truck is here! Come help!" Mitsuki yells from the living room.Katsuki makes his way to the door and leans against the frame casually, watching as the moving truck pulls up and Masaru opens the back.Mitsuki grabs the first box and practically skips back to the front door as Katsuki moves to the side to grant her access.
At least she's happy.
"Go grab a box brat, we've got work to do!""Don't tell me what to do Hag."Katsuki strolls out and grabs a couple boxes, dropping them in the front room for later sorting. The three Bakugo's unload the truck and get things settled, Katsuki and Masaru putting together furniture and getting the couch into the front room. While the boys put together the bed frames and dressers Mitsuki makes a grocery run to fill the now placed fridge so they can have lunch and when she returns, they make turkey and cheese before getting back to unpacking. The truck is eventually emptied into the house and his parents pay the driver, leaving them to finish sorting through the stacked boxes until dinner. Katsuki and Masaru make a quick and dirty stir fry and they eat in relative silence save for Mitsuki repeating stories about her childhood here between bites.Clearing and cleaning the dishes is left to Katsuki while his parents go unpack their belongings in their room. Once he's done, he walks down the hall to start unpacking his own things.Trifling through the boxes stacked in his room to look for his bedding and making the bed first before moving to the rest of his possessions. He's about halfway done before he calls it a night and starts getting ready for bed and plops down on his mattress phone in hand. He intended to scroll aimlessly until he felt sleepy enough to drift off, but the Wi-Fi is practically nonexistent and everything he clicks on is glitchy.
Fucking fantastic.
He groans in annoyance and sets his phone of the nightstand, clicking the light off and settling under the comforter. Sleep comes and goes fitfully, the new sounds of the house keeping him awake. The absence of the city ambiance making him feel out of place. He wakes a couple hours later than usual, 7:00 Am showing on his phone as he scrubs at his eyes blearily. He climbs out of bed and winces at the cold hardwood floor on his feet rather than the soft carpet that he was used to back home. Ambling down the hall to the bathroom he goes to get in the shower before noticing that the soap hasn't been unpacked yet, so he brushes his teeth before heading to the living room to look for the box and returning to the bathroom. When he emerges feeling clean and mostly awake he heads to the kitchen where his mom and dad are already making coffee and an egg scramble. "Morning brat." His mother greets, pushing a cup of coffee to him as he enters the kitchen. "Hag." He answers and accepts the mug, lifting it to his lips and taking a long sip before setting it back on the counter and moving to help Masaru make breakfast. His dad hands him a bell pepper and ruffles his hair affectionately and cracks the eggs into a bowl to scramble them. Katsuki gets a cutting board from an open box of kitchenware and a knife, cutting the bell pepper and adding the chopped veggie to the scramble as his dad pours the eggs into the pan with some butter. "Toast?" Katsuki asks as he goes to hunt for the toaster and bread. Both his parents request a piece of toast as he fishes the toaster out of a box stacked against the wall. He plugs it in and pops the bread into it."How did you sleep?" Marasu asks with a soft smile as he stirs the eggs."Like crap." His mother chortles and nods, then takes a few sips of her coffee. The toast pops and he gets to work buttering it and setting plates out for the three of them, then Masaru serves the eggs and they take a seat the table. Breakfast is a quiet affair most days in the Bakugo household, no one willing to start the inevitable screaming match so early."The high school you're going to be attending is just down the street," Mitsuki states as she eats. "it's about a thirty-minute walk, so you don't have to take the bus. When I was your age, I used to walk to school with my friends."
Shut the fuck up. No one cares.
"Fascinating." He replies and takes another bite rolling his eyes. "Don't take that tone with me." She scolds with a small scowl. "I know you didn't want to move, but this will be a good thing for all of us. Get us out of the city and get some dirt under out nails. You'll make new friends and learn some important lessons about community."Just as he was about to reply, a knock at the door silenced them. Mitsuki excuses herself from the table to go answer the door and it's quiet for approximately three seconds before two excited squeals are heard. Both Masaru and Katsuki's eyebrows shoot skyward, and they hurry to finish their plates. Katsuki takes them to the sink while his dad goes to see what the fuss is about. He starts washing them, but Mitsuki calls him to the front door to meet the guests. He walks over and joins his parents who stand on the porch with a short green haired woman and her matching son. "Katsuki this is Inko Midoriya my childhood best friend, and her son Izuku." Mitsuki introduces them with a beaming smile and then elbows Katsuki in the ribs gently. "Say hello!"Katsuki shoots a glare at his mom and then gives both of them a once over before offering his hand for a handshake to Mrs. Midoriya. She takes it with a motherly smile."Nice to meet you Mrs. Midoriya, I'm Katsuki." He states politely."Oh none of this 'Mrs. Midoriya' nonsense, it makes me feel old." She replies with an amused look. "Please call me Inko, everyone does.""A-And I'm Izuku, it's nice to meet you!" Her son offers his own hand for a handshake. Katsuki shakes the offered hand, noting the casserole held in the other.
Were we expecting them for dinner or something?
"Come in come in! Let me get you something to drink while we catch up!" Mitsuki grabbed Inko by the hand and led her inside, both laughing and chatting back and forth as they disappeared into the house. Izuku followed his mother like a duckling while holding the casserole. Katsuki gives his dad a "What the hell?" look and Masaru shrug with a fond smile, turning to join the others in the living room. He follows his dad, a confused scowl painting his face as he tried to connect the dots between his mother and the sudden giddy schoolgirl who has taken her place at the arrival of the Midoriya family. When they enter the front room Mitsuki has Inko on the couch looking at a photo album that she must have fished out of one of the many boxes stacked around the room. Izuku looks over their mother's shoulders, he seems to be trying not to appear awkward and look like he is a part of the discussion instead of just standing behind the couch holding a casserole dish."-And this one is Katsuki on his first day of preschool. Isn't he just darling in that uniform?" His mom gushed to Inko while pointing at a picture. Katsuki groans and rolls his eyes. "Hag cut that mushy shit out, it's embarrassing.""You watch your goddamn language around our guests Katsuki!" His mom shoots back without looking at him. "Show Izuku to the kitchen so he can put the casserole in the fridge brat."
Hypocrite.
Masaru takes a seat in the armchair and makes a shooing motion at Katsuki and Izuku, an amused smile and a wink at the two of them.Katsuki clicks his tongue in irritation, but does as he was asked, nudging Izuku's arm and leading him to the kitchen. The green haired boy puts the casserole in the fridge and then just stands facing Katsuki looking awkward and mildly constipated....What is with this kid? "So... how are you liking Norwick so far?" Izuku asks tentatively with a nervous expression.Katsuki gives him an unimpressed look and leans against the countertop. "We just got here yesterday.""...Right...""It's been fine. Quiet. Very... green.""Aha yeah, we have a lot more trees and stuff here than in the city.""You do. It's nice I guess."The silence stretches between them for a moment before Izuku feels the need to fill it."It's mostly oaks and walnut trees, But we've got all sorts of trees! Like spruce and cedar, and some black cherry trees around the Kirishima farm and the rodeo grounds. And plenty of other plants too, like goldenrod and a bunch of different ferns and lambs ear. Actually that last one goes by a handful of different names so maybe you know it by a different name like Indian toilet paper or-""Do you always talk this much?" "W-was I rambling? I'm so sorry, I've been told I ramble when I'm nervous... or when I'm not nervous. Or when I'm excited or when I'm thinking-""I get the concept." "Right, I'll shut up now."
Nerd vibes from the green country boy.
"Katsuki come here!" Mitsuki calls them over, saving them from any more awkward small talk. They two walk to the living room again getting dragged into the current conversation."I was just talking to Inko and she was saying that she needs a farmhand, isn't that just a wonderful opportunity?" Mitsuki asks Katsuki."Well since I've gotten older my knees aren't what they used to be. My Izuku is amazing, but I don't want him to do it all alone and potentially get hurt. I figure it'd be a nice way for you boys to become friends while you get settled in, don't you think?" Inko addressed the boys. Katsuki looks from Inko to Mitsuki and then to Izuku. Mitsuki shoots him an "agree brat." look and he sighs while nodding his head. They'll have words about this later, he's sure. "Oh how wonderful! Izuku can help you get into the swing of things once you're ready and settled in, I'm sure you have enough unpacking to keep you busy for now." Inko and Mitsuki went back to chatting up a storm now that the topic has been addressed and resolved, Masaru just sits in the armchair watching the exchange with a tranquilly amused air about him.
Fuck all ya'll.
