Derek was lying to him.Stiles had been noticing little things since the beginning of their relationship but it was only getting worse and worse lately. It used to be just stopping a story midway through and changing it to an obvious lie before just moving on as quickly as possible and he’d very suddenly be unavailable after a call out of the blue from his sister. Now it seemed perpetual, or it was just because Stiles was around him and all of his friends- who were basically all Stiles’ friends at this point anyway- more. It wasn’t just Derek’s secret either; Laura, Erica, Boyd, Isaac, and the twins were all in on it. Some of Laura’s friends too from the amount Stiles had been around them.Everyone was sharing some big secret and it wasn’t like Stiles needed Derek to tell him every little thing about his life but it would be nice to be in on whatever it was that every person he interacted with seemingly was involved with. But then again, there was always a tiny chance it was criminal and Stiles really wasn’t into that kind of thing. Not that he actually thought that any of them were criminals or bad people, but he had no other legitimate theories as to what was going on.So he had it narrowed down to the mob or they were all a part of a secret dance squad and could only reveal that information in a dramatic rush onto stage at the world dance competition finals or some shit.Because those were obviously both legitimate things that could be happening.Stiles used his key to get into Derek’s building. He was pretty sure that Derek and Laura owned like the entirety of the top two floors despite the rest of the building being rented- cough, mob money, cough- but every time Stiles came over he seemed to enter at the same time as people heading up to the couple floors below those. And today, his elevator companions were talking loudly. He recognized one of the women from around the building but not the other, they were probably at least a little tipsy which was an interesting choice for it only being seven pm, but it was Friday so to each their own. There was apparently some coworker of the woman Stiles recognized that the other one- Jessica- just had to run into at the bar the people she worked with were heading to because ‘the sex he could do was so pussy shattering-ly good’.He assumed that was supposed to be a good thing but it sounded at least a little concerning to him and he did like Derek being a little rough when Stiles bottomed.Within reason though.Derek was almost always super gentle in bed, to an almost annoying extent, except for a couple of times when he was so worked up and Stiles had a few small bruises the following day that got him weirdly horny every time he felt them. He begged Derek to experiment like that again but he looked so ashamed about what had happened that Stiles dropped it.The two women exited the elevator as loudly as they’d been the whole was up and Stiles was certain one of the other people on the floor was going to call a noise complaint on them.Stiles tapped his card to get onto Derek’s floor. No actual bedrooms were on this floor, only the kitchen, Derek and Laura’s offices, and multiple rooms littered with couches for everyone to gather in at once.If he listened well enough he could still hear the two women on the floor below.Oddly, the soundproofing on the floor above was good enough that when Stiles was up in Derek’s bedroom he’d never actually been able to make out when someone was even knocking on the door, only Derek could ever manage to hear it with his stupidly good hearing.Derek had invited him over that night with the forewarning that Laura would be around and maybe some of the others. Stiles didn’t care if he and Derek got to be completely alone- given that, one, he liked all of Derek’s friends and sometimes roommates, and two, they’d been together going on a year so he was over frequently and he didn’t need to have a sex marathon every time he saw him.The elevator opened- without a beep, because there had never been one in the time Stiles had been coming around- into what must have been a hallway between separate apartments once upon a time but the whole floor had been largely opened up on the left side of the elevator for the kitchen and dining area, and one of the cuddle rooms. Stiles could hear Laura and Derek in the kitchen before he’d been able to take more than a step or two off the elevator.“- tell him.”“I know that. And I want to too, but we have to be a thousand percent certain before we do.”“Laur, I love him, have since the second I got a whiff of his scent. It's been almost a year, don’t you think we would have figured out if he wasn’t trustworthy by now.”That was another thing that Stiles wasn’t sure if Derek knew Stiles had noticed, the sniffing thing. They all did it, mostly to each other, all of them were always touching each other and hugs had noses pressed to necks. It didn’t happen as often to Stiles, but Derek was getting more and more obvious with it and some of the others were getting more sniffy and touchy as time went on.Stiles liked it. He hadn’t realized that until he went home for a couple of weeks two months ago that he’d grown so used to all the contact that he actively felt off when he wasn’t getting any of it. His dad commented several times that he was ‘extra huggy’ lately when he drove Stiles to the airport to fly back to New York at the end of his trip home.He had grown used to it, adapted to it, and it had sort of just become a part of his life in the last year. He was just as touchy back now that he’d let himself just do whatever felt right with everyone else and when anyone hugged him it was just habit to tip his head so they had full access to his neck.“His dad is a cop, Derek, and he wants to get into the FBI.”“He’s pivoted to forensics.”That definitely didn’t quell whatever issues Laura had with him and his dad being involved with law enforcement. Which didn’t help Stiles’ wild theory that it was mob shit they were involved in.“He’s here.”“He doesn’t have to know whatever secret you’ve been keeping from him,” Stiles said as he was walking towards the kitchen. He spoke at normal volume because never in the time he’s been around them has he actually needed to speak up.Derek was shaking his head at him, no doubt for his use of third person but also potentially because Stiles had come over for the weekend and the only things he had with him were his laptop and the charger for it.Half his belongings were basically already in Derek’s room at this point.“Stiles, would you ever betray us?” Laura asked bluntly.Easy answer to a concerning question. “No.”Laura and Derek shared a look. “We can tell him.”“Are you sure?” Derek asked, the hope in his voice was obvious.“He’s Stiles, of course I’m sure, he’s pack.”Pack was an interesting choice of word. Stiles had heard that and other strange word choices from time to time but they weren’t so completely out of place that he couldn’t just chalk it up to odd friend group slang.“Stiles,” Derek started but he didn’t actually get any further than that.“Yes, babe?”Derek was looking at him, almost like he was scanning him. There was a weariness to him that Stiles hadn’t had directed at him before. Not really.“I’m a werewolf.”Laura groaned. “Way to lead him into it slowly, Der-Bear.”“He suspected something already, no point dancing around it.”Derek was funny in his own way, but that definitely didn’t involve trying to pull one over on someone like this. And, weirdly enough, the werewolf thing lined up. The hearing, the sniffing, the pack comment, it was definitely around the full moon every month when Derek and the others would have their family style gatherings that Stiles wasn’t really invited to.Which… probably made sense if ‘wolfing out was actually a thing that happened around the full moon.“Can you actually turn into a wolf or is this a weird wolf-man kind of situation?”“Really, Stiles?” Derek asked, all his worry replaced in a single moment by disbelieving fondness.Stiles really had a way with words around him.“What? It’s an important question. You said you were a werewolf and you guys- because I’m assuming it’s all of you- all disappear around the full moon so something must be up there and it isn’t because you’re in the mob and that’s the time each month when you go demand money from people.”“Ignoring… all of the rest of that,” Laura started while shaking her head, “Derek and I can full shift but none of the others can. It's a family trait, that's about the best way to put it.”Derek made his way over to Stiles’ side as Laura spoke. “And we’re not in the mob, that was what you came up with?”“You’re all hot and scary and wear leather jackets, what else was I supposed to think?”“Is werewolves better or worse than the mob?”Stiles pretended to think about it for a moment just to get Laura and Derek to look at each other in that panicked way they do sometimes that Stiles wasn’t really sure they were aware of but they did it so often that it was completely predictable to him when they would do it.“Better, obviously. Werewolves are so cool and- wait, not that I don’t trust the two of you but Imma need some proof of this before we go any further just so I know this isn’t some elaborate prank that Laura bribed you into going along with.”He said the last part to Derek, he already knew it wasn’t his doing and everything added up way too much for it not to be werewolves unless this was a prank they’d been working on as a group since the day Stiles first met them, but seeing is believing or something like that.In the blink of an eye, Derek’s face morphed fluidly into a Derek-esque but much ‘wolfier one. His eyes were a deep, shining, blue and the muscle distribution of his cheeks predominantly seemed off. But the biggest change- the most emotionally devastating for Stiles- was the facial hair. He was pro facial hair all the way since the night he first learned how good light beard burn felt in certain places but his whole face was more fluffy all over but less so in the places it previously was.Especially one.“Eyebrows?” Was all Stiles was able to get out. He was sure his concern was audible and his hand was reaching out to Derek’s face without him even noticing.“Is this shock?” Laura asked, her words permeating Stiles’ self imposed panic state.Derek was laughing as Stiles poked at and ran his hands along his face. He was a bit fuzzier, but still Derek. “This is just Stiles.”His words were a little slurred… because he had fangs, actual, probably pointy, fangs instead of his usual bunny teeth. It was adorable. And Stiles kind of wanted to know what they felt like biting into his skin.“And,” Laura drew the word out long, “that is my cue to leave.”Stiles blinked out of his semi-fugue state. “What?”“One important thing you should know about werewolves, Stiles, is that we can hear or smell everything. Like, for instance, the fact that right now your heart is racing and you're horny for my brother.”Stiles didn’t know what to do with that information.Other than to go find an adequate hole to hide in.“She’s just messing with you,” Derek whispered into his ear. His words weren’t slurred which meant he’d transformed back and that was fairly disappointing to Stiles but with Laura in the room it was probably for the best. “We’re used to stuff like that, doesn’t mean anything to us. Erica has almost never not been a little in the mood anytime Boyd’s around and Isaac’s teen years were truly impressive.”“When you always know, you stop caring that you know,” Laura agreed. “We grew up in a house mostly full of ‘wolves, our views of shame and privacy are much different to those of humans.”Stiles nodded. “Noted.”“I will be leaving though, because I’m fine knowing it's happening, or going to happen, but I don’t actually need to witness it.”Derek moved his head away from Stiles enough to look at her. “This is why we have soundproofing upstairs.”“And you’ll be making it upstairs this time?”That hole Stiles was thinking about earlier was looking very appealing again.“You should probably head out then,” Derek agreed.Laura left without much more fuss other than to jokingly tell Stiles that if he told anyone she’d have to kill him.It was a rather poor attempt at pretending to be threatening and neither of them was able to maintain a straight face long enough for her to even finish talking but they didn’t care.“You are taking this well,” Derek commented once they were cuddled together on the couch.“Did you think I wouldn’t?”Derek kissed his forehead. “I knew you would, I’m mostly just glad that you know now.”“Well you were lying to me for a long time,” Stiles said, “I think you need to do something to make that up to me.”“Just one thing?”“Start with one, we’ll go from there?”Derek shifted Stiles so he was closer. “Shifted or not?” He whispered.Shit.So he definitely picked up on that.“I love you.” The words escaped him before he could catch them. They’d been dancing around them for a long time but something was keeping either of them from making that step.Something that just got revealed.“Love you too,” Derek said around his fangs.Stiles kissed him, he couldn’t not. Derek was already basically his favorite person on the planet even with that secret looming between them but now it was all out in the open- or, at least, the door was open for Stiles to incessantly pester him with questions about all things ‘wolfy now.Erica high fived him when she came by the apartment the next day.Stiles woke up to a coarse tongue licking at his shoulder. It was neither the first nor the last time that would happen.“No paws on skin,” he said.Derek was still himself in ‘wolf-mode, as Stiles was repeatedly reminded was not the correct word for it, just a little less inhibited by conscious thought and it was lovely except when he accidentally stepped on Stiles. He didn’t always sleep as a ‘wolf but it happened fairly frequently and Stiles was very appreciative of the air conditioning since he’d otherwise melt under his fluffy blanket of a boyfriend. It did happen more often around full moon time, more connected to the ‘wolf.“Babe, go back to sleep, full moon isn’t for eight more hours.”Fluff turned to skin and paws to hands that were definitely allowed to touch Stiles’ skin. That was the other thing that happened a lot around the time of the full moon.“When does the pack get here?”Derek let Stiles flip onto his back while still lying below him. “Not for a couple of hours, they’re bothering Laura right now.”Laura was their pack’s alpha, basically the epitome of Older Sister, and everyone else in the pack were her betas. Derek was her second and some of the others technically had positions but they didn’t have the biggest pack so it was less formal than other packs.Stiles was their emissary. Because he was Derek’s mate- that discovery wasn’t surprising but still amazing- and because a rogue omega tried to attack Erica one night when they were out and Stiles’ apparent latent magic made an appearance.“So I get you all for myself before frolicking time?”Derek smiled and shook his head at him. Stiles had gone out of his way to understand and ingrain himself in ‘wolf culture but it was still fun for him to poke fun from time to time. Besides, he loved hanging out in the woods with the other humans in the pack while all the werewolves ran amuck. And occasionally he ran with them but he hasn’t done running with that much frequency since high school. He was getting there though.“You do.”“Awesome.”Derek was kissing him then and Stiles could never get enough of him.A few months ago things had been pretty perfect between them except for that little lying issue that they were ignoring because Stiles wasn’t going to force him to spill everything about his life especially when it involved so many other people but now that it was out in the open things were better than ever.Of course it wasn’t perfect, no relationship was perfect 100% of the time but they were doing great.Derek didn’t have to lie to him anymore- nor anyone else in the pack- and he wasn’t in the mob either.Just a werewolf.A really fucking hot werewolf that Stiles loved inside and out, the occasional paw to his bare back and all.
