Trevor really, really, really
loves baby Pavel. As in, if Pavel were to stay a baby for the rest of Trevor's life, Trevor would give up playing hockey just so he could spend the rest of his days on Earth playing with Pavel.Pavel.. Well, for him, it's hit-or-miss with Trevor. Some days, he'll play happily with Trevor and wants nothing more than to stay with Trevor until Leo has no other choice than to stay over with Trevor. Other days, Pavel doesn't want anything to do with Trevor and would rather cling to Leo the entire day.Leo brought Pavel over to Trevor's apartment, bringing only the teether that Pavel has with him and one of Leo's shirts that Pavel has become much too attached to. He tried to stall for as long as he could, not wanting to leave Pavel, even though he knows Trevor will take care of him.
"Leo, dude, he'll be fine. Go do your thing, and when you come back, Pavel will still be the happiest fake-baby alive." Trevor says, reaching out to take Pavel out of Leo's arms. Leo still looked skeptical, shifting slightly away from Trevor so he couldn't take Pavel yet.
"But.." Leo trails off, looking at Pavel's sleeping body.
"But what?" Trevor asks, "But nothing. I don't care if you come home early, or if you stay out later than you wanted to, I will take care of Pavel until you return. Pavel is in good hands. Now give him to me."Trevor takes Pavel from Leo before he could react, bouncing him gently to make sure he stays asleep. All Pavel does is make a cute, sleepy noise, before setting his head onto Trevor's shoulder.
"Hey!" Leo looks offended, but Trevor knows that he was just caught off guard.
"Go. I won't give him back, just go. He'll be okay. I'll send you updates every thirty minutes if it makes you feel better." Leo shakes his head, "No, you don't have to." He sounded hesitant, so Trevor takes his words as code for 'If you could get that down to every fifteen minutes, that would be perfect.'Leo steps forward, pressing a soft kiss to the back of Pavel head, "Okay, fine. Bye, then. I'll be back as soon as I can."Trevor waves to him, already turning to go sit on the couch and wait for the Russian to wake up.-As soon as Pavel woke up, it immediately became a shitshow.
It takes him a few seconds to assess his surroundings, taking in the sunlight streaming through the curtains and the Mighty Ducks: D2 playing in the background. He hears Trevor talking, but can't make out what he's saying.All he knows is that Leo isn't here, Leo isn't holding him, and Leo isn't rubbing his back like he usually does.
It's all wrong.
Trevor feels panic bubbling up in his stomach as he watches Pavel's eyes fill with tears.
He knows that babies cry, but 9 times out of 10, he doesn't know
why
they're crying. The possibilities are endless, really. They could be hungry, tired, thirsty, just sad, scared, nervous, literally
anything sets those things off.Although, with Pavel, Trevor is pretty sure he knows the reason.
Trevor isn't Leo, and Pavel is having one of the days where he just wants Leo.
"Aw, Minty, I'm sorry." Trevor hugs Pavel a little tighter, his hand coming up to cup Pavel's head. "Leo will be back soon, I promise. He won't take long, he loves you too much."Trevor has already accepted that he won't be able to soothe Pavel, only Leo can do that. He can, though, try to be as Leo-like as possible. He sets Pavel down on the couch and stands up and walks
over to his kitchen island where Leo left his shirt.
"Here, take this." Trevor says when he arrives back at the couch, offering Pavel a small smile and the shirt. He drapes it over the baby's legs, watching carefully as Pavel inspects the cloth and picks it up.
Pavel doesn't stop crying completely, Trevor didn't expect him to, but his chest-heaving sobs have quiets into a weird baby version of weeping. Trevor will take all he can get.
Trevor guesses that all he can do now is wait until either Leo gets back, or Pavel cries himself to sleep. He takes out his phone, opens Snapchat and takes a quick picture of Pavel. His red eyes aren't as apparent in the photo, but you can still see the tears streaks and puffiness of his blue eyes.
'he misses you'
Trevor sends the Snap to Leo."Why, of all days, did you have to pick today to hate me?" Trevor asks, booping Pavel on the nose with his finger.It doesn't make Pavel giggle like it usually does, but nothing will make Pavel laugh until Leo gets back.-It does not take long for Leo to arrive back to Trevor's place.
He doesn't knock or anything, no signal that he is walking in, just barges into the house and frantically looks around.
"Where is he?" He asks Trevor, who's standing in the kitchen with empty arms. No Pavel in sight.
"The little dude cried himself to sleep, he's in my room sleeping, out cold."
"You left him in your roo-""He is surrounded by pillows and blankets and he would have to actually wake up and crawl over a wall that's about a foot tall to fall. He is
fine."
Leo just sighs and scrunches his nose at Trevor, more concerned about the fact Trevor left him unattended and alone than anything else. Of all the times to leave him alone, Trevor picked the day Pavel was scared of being anywhere without Leo to do so.Leo's heart aches at the mere thought of Pavel being awake and scared, with no one to see that.
He takes a moment to collect himself before slowly opening the door to Trevor's room. He scans the room, eyes landing on the center of the bed, where there is indeed a fort with walls a foot tall to keep Pavel safe.
Pavel is out cold, puffy eyes and cheeks that are sticky to the touch. Leo's t-shirt is clutched in his tiny fists, his teether laying on his stomach.
Leo's heart melts a little. As sad as the story behind the sight is, it is a really cute sight."Hi sweetheart." Leo whispers, picking up Pavel's sleeping body and cradling Pavel in his arms. He looks so fragile in this vulnerable state that Leo's almost scared he'll break Pavel.
Pavel stirs a little, his eyes cracking open a little, enough for him to realize who's holding him.A small smile tugs at the corner of his lips, before he settles back into Leo's arms and lets sleep take over him.
