In the remains of Bowser's castle, Kamek, Bowser's advisor, is pacing back and forth, waiting for something or someone. The doors to the throne room swing open and a little koopa that looks exactly like Bowser, the only difference is that this little koopa is wearing bandana with a crudely drawn mouth with fangs on it.
???: Kamek! I have called you here on a matter of great importance.Kamek: I am aware of this, young Master Bowser Junior.
Bowser Junior: Good, then you know that I have a plan to take revenge of those good-for-nothing Mario Bros. Have you called him?Kamek: Yes Young Master, King K. Rool is on his way and so are your siblings.Bowser Junior: Heh heh. Good, soon the Mushroom Kingdom and the Jungle Kingdom will fall and Bowser will rise!Kamek: Yes, our plan will be put into motion shortly. I have already sent our men to do some damage in Sarasaland.Bowser Junior: *Cackles* Good, very good.In Brooklyn, in Punch-Out Pizzeria, Mario, Luigi, and Toad were sitting at a table in the corner, eating pizza. Toad took a bite of his pizza and sighed contentedly.Toad: You were right Mario. This pizza is delicious and yours and Luigi's home city is so beautiful.Mario: *Chuckles* It's fine but it's not as beautiful as the Mushroom Kingdom.
Toad: Yeah, oh, I almost forgot, how's your business going? I'm sure you've had lots of jobs to do.Luigi: Oh yeah, business has been flourishing. Who knew saving Brooklyn would garner so much good publicity? I knew our business would take off but I never imagined it taking off this high. Then, I never imagined being captured and locked in a cage and almost dying...Mario: Oh LuLuigi: But it's alright. Everything turned out okay in the end, just like Mario said it would. Nothing can hurt us, as long as we're together.Mario and Luigi fist bumped.Toad: So, even though you have saved the city, is there any other problems you have faced here?Luigi: *chuckles as he takes a bite of pizza* Not unless you count the amount of people that are asking to get our autographs then no.Mario: Yeah, the plumbing jobs I can handle, the other type of attention we've been getting however....The trio laugh.
Toad: So Mario, still hate mushrooms?Mario: Vey much so.Toad: Even though your best friend is a mushroom?Mario: That's different Toad and besides you're my second best friend. Lu's my best friend and always will beAfter the fight against Bowser, Toad had introduced himself to Luigi. He had called himself Mario's best friend but Mario had explained that Luigi would remain his best friend and Toad took this very well, most likely because the little mushroom man had witnessed everything Mario had gone through to get Luigi back.After lunch, Mario had paid for the pizza and the trio were walking back to the Brooklyn sewers to go back home. When they approached the warp pipe, Luigi became nervous.Mario: Hey, Lu, it'll be okay, just trust me little bro. I won't let go, I promise.
Luigi gulped and took Mario's hand and together, with Toad, they hopped into the warp pipe.In the kingdom of Sarasaland, two figures who looked similar to Mario and Luigi were in the town square, putting graffiti all over the square and terrorizing the creatures called Dayzees. The Mario and Luigi look-a-likes snickered at the chaos they had caused and high five each other before leaving the town and hopping in the nearest warp pipe. One of the dayzees runs frantically up to the castle. Two dayzee guards stop the citizen who explains the situation and the guards let the citizen in. The dayzee thanks them before running to the throne room and knocking on the doors.
???: Come inThe doors open and the dayzee runs in and kneels in the middle of the room.Dayzee citizen: You're Highness, there's trouble in the Dayzee Town Square.???: What's going on?The dayzee citizen explains the situation and the royals eyes narrows.???: Dayzeeby!An elderly dayzee turns to the monarch.Dayzeesby: Yes Princess Daisy?Princess Daisy: You're in charge of the kingdom until I get back. It's time I go visit a friend of mine.Dayzeesby: You're Highness, I would strongly advise you to take some guards along with you.
Princess Daisy: Very well. I'll leave for the Mushroom Kingdom right away.After Daisy had gathered her guards, they set off for the Mushroom Kingdom. When they arrived in the Mushroom Kingdom, Daisy and her guards headed straight for the Mushroom palace. Princess Peach was in the throne room, looking over the world map, the toads reporting to her how the Snow Kingdom has been rebuilding after Bowser's attack. Toad General walked in and cleared his throat.Toad General: Excuse me, Princess?Princess Peach: Yes?Toad General: Princess Daisy of the Sarasaland Empire is here to see youPrincess Peach's face lit up at the mention of Princess Daisy.
Princess Peach: Well, what are you waiting for Toad General? Bring her in!!!Toad General bowed and quickly opened the throne room doors. Princess Daisy and her guards entered. The toads bowed and Princess Peach walked regally down the steps that lead to her throne.Princess Daisy: You're Highness Princess PeachPrincess Peach: You're Highness, Princess DaisyThe two looked at each other for a minute before going in for a hug.Princess Peach: Oh my goodness girl! It's been too long!Princess Daisy: Hey girl, hey!Princess Peach: What brings you to the Mushroom Kingdom?Princess Daisy's face fell as she looked stern. Princess Peach was surprised as she had never seen her normally cheery friend look so down.Princess Peach: Daisy?Princess Daisy: I wish it could've been a social call but it's actually a great deal of trouble in the Sarasaland Empire. In Dayzee Town Square, graffiti was found littering the center of the square.Princess Peach gasped in shock and disbelief.Princess Daisy: I have reports of the perpetrators being the Mario Bros. I don't want to believe it because of the letters you've sent me about their heroics but I can't take any chances. I need to look into this matter so that's why I came here. I want to talk to them.Princess Peach: I understand Daisy. Toad General!Toad General walked over to the princesses and bowed.Toad General: Yes Princess?Princess Peach: Send some guards to get the Mario Bros and bring them to the castle.Toad General nodded before running off to fulfill Princess Peach's order. Peach turned back to Daisy who looked apologetic.Princess Daisy: I'm quite sure there is a logical explanation for all of this and I don't want to jump to conclusions.Princess Peach: Yes Daisy. Hopefully this will get settled.
----- CHAPTER BREAK -----
Around the same time Daisy had arrived in the Mushroom and Peach had sent the guards to find the Mario Bros, the said brothers were out with Toad when the guards came up to the trio.Guard 1: Mario, Luigi, you must come with us. Princess Peach has asked to see you on a very urgent matter.Mario and Luigi looked at each other in confusion as they followed the guards, Toad close behind. They made their way through the forest and through Toad Town and to the castle. The guards opened the castle doors as Mario, Luigi, and Toad walked in. They then walked to the throne room. The guards lead the brothers and Toad into the room.Guard 2: Princess Peach. The Mario Bros are here as well as a toad they were with.Princess Peach: Thank you. That will be all.
The guards bowed and walked out of the throne room.Mario: Peach, what's this all about?Princess Peach: I'm glad you asked. I apologize for the rather abrupt castle call but as I'm sure the guards told you it's an urgent matter. My friend, Princess Daisy here, has informed me of some interesting goings-on in the Sarasaland Empire. Apparently two humans who look like you and Luigi were seen graffitiing Dayzee Town Square.Princess Daisy: This happened 2 hours ago.Mario: First of, pleased to meet you Princess Daisy, second of all, Luigi and I were in Brooklyn 3 hours ago.Dayzee guard: Yeah, likely story. Do you have any proof? Alibis?Toad: They do in fact. Hi, I'm toad. I was with them in Brooklyn.Mario: Yeah, he was with us the whole time, right Lu?The room's attention fell on Luigi who was staring at Princess Daisy, his mouth hanging out and his cheeks rosy.Luigi: Uh....Mario: Lu, we're talking to you!Mario elbowed Luigi lightly which snapped the younger man out of his daze.Luigi: Yeah, Toad was with us the entire time. We took a walk around Central Park, then got lunch at Punch-Out Pizzeria and then we came back.Toad: He's rightMario: Yeah.Princess Peach nodded thoughtfully.
Princess Peach: Mario and Luigi are trusted friends and citizens so is Toad. They would never do anything like vandalism. In fact, given how they worked together to defeat Bowser, I highly doubt they would do anything remotely destructive.
Princess Daisy: Peach, we can't be sure they wouldn't do something like this.Princess Peach: That's true Daisy.Dayzee guard: With all due respect Princess Peach, who else looks like these two boys?Princess Daisy: He's got a point Peach.Princess Peach: Yes, so he does. Okay, Mario, Luigi, I really don't want to throw you two into the dungeons until we get this whole thing sorted out, so what I'll do is I'll put you both in one of the castle's guest rooms under heavy guard.
Mario: But Peach, we're not guilty!Princess Peach: I know you're not guilty but I can't be sure. You two aren't going in the dungeon so a guest room in the castle under heavy guard is the best thing I can think of.Mario: Peach, I-Princess Peach: It's only temporary Mario. Guards, take these two to a guest room and keep them there until further notice.Toad guards: Yes PrincessAs Princess Peach, Princess Daisy, Toad, and Toad General watch the toad guards escort Mario and Luigi out of the throne room and to a guest room, one of the guards accompanying Princess Daisy addresses Princess Peach.Dayzee guard: You're Highness, what about that toad the Mario bros came in with?Princess Peach: What about him?Dayzee Guard: What are you going to do with him? He was with the Mario bros. Maybe he's their accomplice.At the dayzee guard's words, Princess Daisy became stern.Princess Daisy: Guard! How dare you! We don't know the full story! For all we know this could and very may be a setup to try and get the Mario Bros thrown in the dungeon but it won't work. We'll find the actual perpetrators and those two men will be proven innocent.Princess Peach: Couldn't have put it better myself, Daisy. That's why I put Mario and Luigi in the guest room because I want to lure the real perpetrators into a false sense of security. Meanwhile, I will send Toad here out with Toadette to do some more investigating and warn the other kingdoms about these two Mario Bros look-a-likes. Together, we will catch these two villains and they will be brought to justice.Another one of Princess Daisy's guards spoke up.Dayzee Guard 2: Princess Peach, are you sure we can trust this Toad and Toadette?Princess Peach: Of course we can. Toad gave me the ice flower that allowed me to encase Bowser in ice at the 'wedding' and the flower also allowed me to freeze the winch lowering the prisoners' cages into the lava, saving them. So yeah, Toad is more than trustworthy enough to handle this mission and Toadette is an investigator in training. This mission will be perfect for her to prove herself.Dayzee Guard 2: Very well.
Princess Peach nodded. Toad left the room to get Toadette for their mission. Toad walked through Toad town.Toad: Toadette? Toadette? Where are you?
???: Toad! Toad, is that you?!Toad whipped around and saw a pink toad with pigtails running towards. Toad smiled widely.Toad: Toadette!Toadette: Toad! Oh it's so good to see you!Toad: The feelings mutual!Toadette: So, how've you been?Toad: Good. Good, I've been helping the Princess and Mario take down Bowser.Toadette: Oh, that's so exciting! I've been here, training.Toad: That's great! Anyway, the Princess actually sent me. She wants the both of us to warn the surrounding kingdoms of two humans who look like Mario and Luigi. Apparently these humans have vandalized Dayzee Town Square in the Sarasaland Empire.Toadette: Two humans vandalizing the Sarasaland Empire? And they look like the heroes who stopped that monster? Well, what are we waiting for? Let's go!The toad duo set off. Their first stop: the Jungle Kingdom.
----- CHAPTER BREAK -----
In the Mushroom castle, Mario was pacing the room that he and Luigi were being kept in. The older Mario bro had a concerned look on his face. Luigi looked up at his older brother.Luigi: You know that this is only temporaryMario: I know but I feel as though we should be out there helping. Instead, we're locked in here, waiting. It's us those two framed.Luigi: I know, I know. It's not ideal but something will come about. Besides, Peach said that this was only temporary. Give the real perpetrators a false sense of security or something like that.
Mario: I know, it's just so frustrating.Out in the Jungle Kingdom, Toad and Toadette had just arrived at the gates.
Toadette: Would you like me to-?Toad: No. I can get it.The little mushroom man walked up to the gate and banged on it. There was a moment of silence before the same Kong that had roared in his, Mario, and Peach's face the first time the came here greeted them again. This time, the kong recognized Toad.Toad: HiKong guard: What do you want?Toad: We want to see the king. It's an emergency.The kong guard was about to respond when a familiar voice rang out above them.???: Hey Toad! Good to see you again!Toad, Toadette, and the kong guard looked up to see Donkey Kong swing down and land next to them.Donkey Kong: It's alright. I'll take it from here.Kong guard: Of course, Prince Donkey Kong.The Kong guard moved aside, allowing Donkey Kong and the two toads in the gate.Donkey Kong: So, what brings you two little toads to the Jungle Kingdom?Toad: It's about Mario and Luigi.Donkey Kong: Oh? Mario want a rematch? Tell him I'm happy to do so. Anytime.Toadette: This isn't about a rematch with Mario. Him and Luigi are actually in trouble.Donkey Kong: Oh?Toad explained the situation to Donkey Kong and the kong's eyes went wide before nodding.Toadette: Please Donkey Kong, you must tell King Cranky Kong about this immediately.Donkey Kong: Don't worry. I will. And I'll be sure to tell him that to put out extra security so that we can catch those villains in the act and bring the to justice.Toad: Thank you so much!???: Hey DK!
The trio looked up and saw three other kongs swinging towards them. There were two little ones and one big one. One of the little ones was male with a red shirt on that had two stars, one on each side of the shirt and the other little one was a female and had blonde hair, similar to Princess Peach's and the kong was wearing a pink hat and had a pink shirt on. These two were Diddy Kong and Dixie Kong. The third one was light brown and was wearing sunglasses, a red bandanna with white polka dots on it and a white shirt with blue shorts that were ripped at the end. There was also a belt wrapped around the middle of his torso. This was Funky Kong. Diddy and Dixie landed next to DK.Dixie: DK? Who are these people?DK: Dixie, Diddy, Funky. The male is Toad and the female is…Toadette: I’m Toadette! Nice to meet ya!Diddy: Always nice to meet new friends!Funky: What brings you two mushroom people to The Jungle Kingdom?Before Toadette could explain that Princess Peach sent for them, they heard a high pitched laugh, followed by rumbling. Startled, the group turned and saw a hoard of what looked like crocodiles heading straight for them, with a little koopa wearing glasses in the lead.DK: Toad, female toad-Toadette: The name's ToadetteDK: Toadette, stay behind me. Diddy, Dixie, go warn my dad that King K. Rool and his Kremlings are coming and they've got a koopaling leading them. Funky, you stay and help me.Diddy and Dixie retreated to inside the Kong Kingdom gates while DK and Funky stood firm and Toad and Toadette stood behind them. The crocodiles, the Kremlings thundered up to the gates only to be halted by the koopaling leading them. The koopaling addressed the apes.Diddy: Wait, Dixie, one of us should stay here just in case DK and Funky need help.Dixie: Good idea. You wanna stay here?Diddy: I think it'd be better if you stayed here.Dixie: Me?Diddy: Yeah, you want to prove how tough and brave you are. You can help DK and Funky in case they need help.Dixie: Oh okay. Just get going. His Majesty King Cranky Kong must know about this.Diddy Kong retreated while Dixie kept watch.??: Donkey Kong. Funky Kong.DK: What do you want Iggy?Iggy: That's simple really. I want to take over the Jungle Kingdom in the name of the koopas for my papa and I will stop at nothing to achieve that goal.
DK: *scoffs* Yeah, like that's gonna happen. Your dad was taken down by two human brothers. What are you going do?Funky: Why don't you show us what you're made of? So far I'm seeing no threat coming from you Iggy koopa.Iggy: I was hoping you might say something like that.A huge Kremling stepped forward. This was King K. Rool.K. Rool: Kremlings, take the mushroom people prisoner.A group of Kremlin's approached Toad and Toadette but DK and Funky but before they could grab them, DK threw a punch at the nearest Kremlin's. Funky jumped up, grabbed a Kremling by the mouth and shoved it down, knocking it out. K Rool growled and ordered his krems to restrain DK and Funky.
DK: Toads, RUN!!Toad and Toadette took off running as fast as their little legs could carry them. DK and Funky were captured by the Kremlings. Toad and Toadette sprinted towards the nearest warp pipe and from the trees above, Dixie jumped down and ran beside them.Dixie: Toad, Toadette!
I know where the nearest warp pipe leading to the Mushroom Kingdom is! Follow me!Toad and Toadette wasted no time in following Dixie. True to her word, the female kong lead the two mushroom people to the warp pipe. All three of them jumped in.
----- CHAPTER BREAK -----
Back in the Mushroom Kingdom, Toad, Toadette, and Dixie Kong flew out of the warp pipe and Toad and Toadette lead Dixie to the palace. Ala-Gold and Buckenberry were standing guard outside when they noticed the trio running up to them.Ala-Gold: Whoa, whoa, whoa. Where do you think you're going?Buckenberry: At ease Ala-Gold. What are you three doing here?Toadette: We need to see Princess Peach. It's urgentAla-Gold: Oh yeah?
Toad: Yeah. Please let us through!Buckenberry: Very well. You may go through.Ala-Gold and Buckenberry let Toad, Toadette, and Dixie through the palace doors. The trio scampered towards the throne room and urgently knocked on the doors. Inside, Peach and Daisy heard the knocking.Peach: Enter.The throne room doors burst open and looking very winded were Toad, Toadette, and Dixie Kong.Daisy: Dixie Kong? What's she doing here?Toad tried to explain but he was too out of breathe.Dixie: You see , You're Highness, Princess Peach. We just escaped the Kremlings!Peach: The Kremlings? You mean the Jungle Kingdom's sworn enemy?Dixie: Yes, You're Highness. These two enlisted the help of DK, Funky Kong, Diddy Kong., and I and as we were making plans, the Kremling army came out of nowhere and they were lead by Iggy Koopa, one of Bowser's adopted children. DK and Funky tried to put up a fight but they were overpowered and captured.Daisy: What about Wario and Waluigi? Did you see them?Dixie: No You're Highness.
Daisy groaned and turned away from them. Peach looked thoughtful.Peach: Well, at least now we know the threat factor has gotten higher since Kamek has enlisted the help of Bowser's adopted children.
Daisy: And Kamek no doubt, is helping them no doubt. The question is, where to find that scheming MagiKoopa?Peach: It is
possible that Kamek is still in the Darklands. It's also possible that DK and Funky Kong are being held in the Jungle Kingdom.Toad: So what are we going to do, Princess?Peach: Guards, go get Mario and Luigi and bring them into the throne room. They're going to be of assistance in this fight.Two toad guards bowed and ran off to fulfill Peach's orders.In their room, Mario and Luigi were getting restless. Mario was sitting on the bed, lost in thought. Luigi was pacing the room, a far off look in his eyes. A knock was at the door, snapping the brothers out of their trances. The two toad guards opened the door and looked at the human brothers.Guard 1: Mario, Luigi. You two must come with us. Princess Peach wants to see you in the throne room.Mario and Luigi looked at each other before walking over to the guards who escort them to the throne room. Once they get to the throne room doors, one of the toad guards knocked on the door and a faint 'enter' is heard, the doors open and the toads escort the brothers in. Peach, Daisy, Toad, Toadette, and Dixie Kong are all in the throne room. Dixie's eyes widen as she remembers Mario from the fight in the Great Ring of Kong.Peach: There has been new developments in this problem.Mario: What do you mean?Peach: Toad and Toadette were sent to warn the other kingdoms of the threat at large. But as they were getting the help of the Jungle Kingdom, they were attacked by the Kremlings, King K. Rool, and Iggy Koopa. Donkey Kong and Funky Kong fought valiantly, but in the end, they were captured and taken prisoner.Mario and Luigi look at each other in concern.Luigi: Well, what does this mean for us?Daisy: It means that we will have to storm the Darklands and take down Kamek and his forces and also take back the Jungle Kingdom in the name of the Kongs.Luigi visibly tensed up at the mention of the Darklands.Luigi: D-D-D-Darklands?Dayzee guard: Yeah, you can do that can't you Mister Hero?Daisy shot a glare at the Dayzee guard.Peach: I know this isn't going to be easy for you Luigi but you must know that this time, you won't be alone. We'll be going in pairs. You'll go with Mario, Daisy and I will pair up, and Toad, Toadette, and Dixie Kong will be a group of three. Once we're through the Darklands and fought off the enemies, we'll meet up at the entrance to the remains of Bowser's fortress. Storm the fortress, rescue DK and Funky Kong, and take down Kamek, the koopalings, and Wario and Waluigi.Luigi: But, who will be here to protect the Mushroom Kingdom in our absence? Someone has to be here just in case.Peach: The Dragon Kingdom has lent us some of their best soldiers to protect the kingdom while we are away. Get plenty of rest, prepare yourselves and gather as many power-ups as you can. Tomorrow morning we leave for the Darklands to take down the Koopa army.On their way out of the castle, back to the village, Mario and Luigi were thinking about the next day, Luigi visibly shaking. Mario noticed this and took him aside and sat him down on a bench.Mario: Hey, Luigi. Luigi, it's gonna be okay. I'll be with you the entire time.Luigi looked at Mario, still trembling.Luigi: Mario, you know why I'm scared. I don't wanna go back to that lava-filled hellhole, where I nearly died. What if I'm too afraid to fight? What if I mess up and get captured like Donkey Kong and Funky Kong? What if I actually die? Or what if...A horrible thought struck Luigi, making his face go white as a ghost.Mario: Lu? Lu, what's wrong?Luigi: What if you die and I....can't save you?Mario: Little bro, it's okay. None of that will happen. None of it. Because no matter what, I'll be right beside you.
Luigi: You will?Mario: I swear it on my life Luigi. Nothing will happen to you or me as long as...Luigi: We're togetherMario pats Luigi on the back and pulls him into a hug.Mario: Feel better now Lu?Luigi: Much, thank you. But I don't know how to use any power-ups aside from that super star.
Mario was about to respond when Peach and Daisy came into the room with Toad, Toadette, and Dixie Kong in tow.
Peach: Mario, Luigi. Is something wrong?Daisy: What is it?Luigi: Well...you said in the meeting that we'll use power-ups to take down the koopa army but there's just one problem...Toad: What's that?Luigi: I don't know how to use any power-ups.Daisy: Didn't you defeat Bowser and his whole army with a super star?Luigi: Well yes but that's the only power-up I've ever used. Before Mario rescued me, I was trapped in a cage over lava.
Peach: Well, I think I have a way to remedy that. Follow me.Mario, Luigi, Daisy, Toad, Toadette, and Dixie followed Peach who lead them down into a secret room in the castle. Peach flipped on a light and the room lit up. The group gasped. The room was cavernous and looked like it was made from stone. There were question mark blocks lining the wall.Dixie: Princess Peach, what is this place, You're Highness?Peach: This, is where I learned how to use power-ups.Mario: I thought you learned on that obstacle course?Peach: Well, that was where I learned to be agile and fierce. This place is where I learned to use power-ups.

Back in the Jungle Kingdom, Diddy Kong was swinging through the trees, trying to stay ahead of the Kremlings.Diddy Kong: Gotta warn King Cranky Kong! Gotta warn King Cranky Kong! Gotta warn King Cranky Kong!! Can't let anyone down! Can't let them down! Can't let them down!Diddy was so focused on staying ahead of the Kremlings, he hadn't realized that he was already out of the jungle and to the kingdom. Diddy leapt out of the jungle and onto his own kart and raced along the track, surprising the other Kings as he passed by. Diddy reached the ramp to the palace and jumped off and when he fell, his paraglider deployed and he was able to land on the floor inside the palace. Cramky Kong looked up in surprise.Cranky: Diddy Kong? What are you doing here? Where's Donkey Kong?Diddy, trying to catch his breathe, bowed down before Cranky.Diddy: You-You're Majesty...DK and Funky....captured by the Kremlings!!
Cranky leapt up from his throne in disbelief and shock.Cranky: Kremlings? My so and Funky? Captured???Diddy: Yes, my King. Dixie ran off with Toad, and Toadette. DK told me to warn you. But the Kremlings weren't the only ones there.Cranky: What?Diddy: A koopaling was leading them. Along with King K. Rool.Cranky: Who was this koopaling?Diddy: Iggy.Cranky; Iggy?Diddy: Yes, You're Majesty.Cranky: Well, this is alarming news. Did you see where Dixie and the two Mushroom Kingdom citizens ran off to?Diddy: No, King Cranky Kong. I just did what DK told me.Cranky: And I'm proud of you for that but this is a serious issue. If a koopaling is leading the Kremlings then the Kremlings must have teamed up with the koopas in order to break Bowser out. We'll have to make extra patrols.
Diddy: There is one more thing You're Majesty.Cranky: What?Diddy: The Kremlings are already on their way here.Cranky: WHAT?!?Diddy: Yes SireCranky: GUARDS! PREPARE FOR BATTLE!! The Kong Army will not go down easily! Diddy Kong, use my private warp pipe to get back to the Mushroom Kingdom. The Princess and the Mario Brothers are going to need all the help they can get.Diddy: Yes King Cranky Kong.Cranky lead Diddy to his private warp pipe and before Diddy jumped in, Cranky stopped him momentarily.Cranky: Good luck out there. Make those Kremlings and Koopas pay for what they've down. Make the Jungle Kingdom proud. Oh and one more thingDiddy: Yes You're Majesty?Cranky pulled out a short, wide barrel, maroon gun. Diddy looked at him surprised.Diddy: DK's coconut gun?Cranky: Yes, it will help you fight off the Kremlin's and the koopas. Now you must go!Diddy: Yes Sir.Diddy jumped into the warp pipe as the sounds of battle rang out around the kingdom.Down in the cavernous space, Peach was showing Mario and Luigi how to use more power-ups. Luigi was getting the hang of using the power-ups, taking a liking to the red mushroom and the super bell.Luigi: I really don't see why you hate mushrooms Mario. Their taste and, in this world, they give you super strength and jumping abilitiesMario groaned and Luigi just laughed. Peach was packing all sorts of power-ups in a bag while explaining in depth about the power-ups.Peach: You know Luigi, Mario is particularly familiar with the red mushroom.Luigi: Why? Because he ate a lot of them?Peach: YepMario: Hey, can we please stay focused? Peach, what types of power-ups are we going to need for storming the Darklands?Peach: Well, there's a lot of dangers thereLuigi: Don't remind mePeach: And it's really dangerous, with dry bones everywhere.Mario: Dry bones?Luigi: Skeleton koopas, right Princess?Peach: YesLuigi: I was chased by a hoard of them when I landed in the Darklands. They chased me all the way to an abandoned castle where I was captured by the shy guys.Peach: The dry bones are easily taken down by an ice flower so we each need one of those. We'll also need red mushrooms, super bells, tanooki leaves-Luigi: Tanooki leaf?Mario: It's what I was using to fly when I saved you, LuLuigi: Oh, the bear. Right.Peach: Oh, Luigi, you should probably use one.Luigi: Oh yeah, that'd be a good idea.Peach tosses what looks like a tanooki leaf to Luigi and Luigi claps it but to his surprise, he doesn't turn into a tanooki like Mario. Instead, Luigi turns into a golden fox.Mario: Wait, what?Luigi: Huh? Why am I not?-Peach: Oh, that must've been a kitsune leaf.Luigi/Mario: A what?Peach: Oh, a kitsune leaf. It has the same abilities as the tanooki leaf.
Luigi: What's the difference?Peach: The look of it.Luigi: Ah. I like this one, I'll have to pack this one.Luigi packs the kitsune leaf into his bag which was filled to the brim with red mushrooms, super bells, ice flowers, a few fire flowers, and some of the kitsune leaves as well as some other power-ups. Mario's bag had the same power-ups as Luigi's bag only he had a strange looking mushroom that had a yellow top and red spots. Peach had packed her own power-ups which were the same as Mario's and Luigi's power-ups. Dixie Kong had her own power-ups as did Toad and Toadette. The group was ready to face the Darklands.

Back in the Darklands, two kremling fights had wrestled Donkey Kong and Funky Kong into cages.DK: Kremlings. Let us out now!!The Kremlin's looked at each other and laughed before a voice interrupted them.?: That's enough! Leave us!The two Kremlings left the room and DK and Funky were face to face with Bowser Junior. Bower Jr. approached the duo.Bowser Jr.: Now, where's my papa? What did you monkeys do with him?Funky: Now see here kid-Bowser Jr.: Kid? My name is Bowser Junior and you will tell me where my papa and Mama Peach are or else I will have you dropped into lava.DK: We're telling- wait, Mama Peach? You mean to tell me that you believe a human woman is your mama?Bowser Jr.: Yes. Papa told me and my siblings all about it. What's it to you, ape?DK and Funky look at each other before bursting out laughing.
Bowser Jr.: Hey! What's so funny? Why are you laughing?Funky: Oh, you think Princess Peach is your mother. Oh that's a good one. DK, where do you think he got that idea from?Bowser Jr.: Shut up you primates!!!DK and Funky kept laughing and Bowser Jr soon lost it.Bowser Jr.: Oh you stupid primates asked for it! Kamek!!Kamek appeared in a cloud of purple smoke and DK and Funky stopped laughing.Kamek: Yes, young master?Bowser Jr.: Take these two primates to the fiery dungeon where the penguins, that crazed star, and that green human used to be held.
Kamek: Yes young master. You two, you're coming with me.DK and Funky looked at each other.
Funky: You won't get away with this you evil little brat!
Bowser Jr.: Oh, I'm counting on the Mario Brothers and Mama Peach showing up. As well as Princess Daisy.DK, Funky, and Kamek disappeared behind a door. Soon, Morton Koopa Junior, Roy Koopa, Wendy O. Koopa, Iggy Koopa, Lemmy Koopa, Larry Koopa, and Ludwig Von Koopa showed up before Bowser Junior. Jr noticed their arrival.Bowser Jr.: Ah, my brothers and sister! Welcome back! Now report!Iggy: The Jungle Kingdom has been taken over in the name of the koopas and kremlings.Roy: The boos have joined us in this endeavorMorton: I have convinced the bob-ombs to join us.Lemmy: Larry and I have been collecting more members of papa's discarded army to rejoin us.Larry: Sure have!Ludwig: I have also given Wario and Waluigi their next assignmentWendy: All has been going according to plan.Bowser Jr.: Excellent!Kamek appears in a puff of purple smoke.Kamek: Young master, Donkey Kong and Funky Kong have been dealt with. No sign of the two toads or the other two kings who were at the confrontation in the Jungle Kingdom. I've sent out koopa troops to look for them but it appears that they've fled.Bowser Jr.: Who were these two kongs? Were they adults?Kamek: No young master. They were kids. Dixie Kong and Diddy Kong. We suspect they may have gone off to warn the Mushroom Kingdom.Bowser Jr.: No matter. What about the Mario brothers and our Mama Peach?Kamek: We have yet to know anything about them but we will keep a look out for them.Bowser Jr.: Vey well, you are dismissed Kamek. Keep me updated immediately if anything changes.Kamek bows and disappears. Bowser Jr. looks at his brothers and sister with wicked pride.Bowser Jr.: It won't be long my siblings. Soon we will take over the Mushroom Kingdom, throw those rebels in the dungeon, free papa, get Mama Peach back, and kill the Mario Brothers!!The koopalings started cheering.Bowser Jr.: Now go forth! And cause trouble. This time, the bad guys shall win!!

Mario, Luigi, Peach, Daisy, Toad, Toadette and Dixie Kong were traveling through the mushroom forest. Peach and Daisy were going over plans once they got to the Darklands. Toad, Dixie,
and Toadette were talking about the adventure and Mario and Luigi were talking about nothing. Suddenly, a rustle came from the mushroom trees, catching everyone's attention. Mario moving in front of Luigi.Mario: What was that?Luigi moved out from behind Mario, much to his older brother's surprise.Luigi: Show yourself!Suddenly, Diddy Kong fell out of the trees, landing at the groups feet.
Dixie: Diddy? What are you doing here?Diddy: King Cranky Kong ordered me to come help you since DK and Funky Kong have both been captured.Peach: Well, the more help, the better! Welcome to the team Diddy Kong!Diddy, blushing, bows to Peach and Daisy.Diddy: Please, if it pleases you, please just call me Diddy. If it pleases you.Daisy: Well, okay Diddy. Come along.The group continued on their way, Diddy now in the group. Intrigued, Luigi nervously fell back a bit so he could talk to Diddy and Dixie.Luigi: So, uh, hi..?Diddy: Hey! I'm DiddyDixie: Hi! I'm DixieLuigi: Well, I'm LuigiDiddy: Yeah, we know who you are.Luigi: You do?Dixie: Yeah.Luigi: So, you two are monkeys?Diddy and Dixe chuckled.Dixie: Well yes but we prefer the term 'Kongs'. It's what our species name is.
Dixie: Yeah, I mean, Princess Peach informed everyone of the ones who defeated that evil koopa king.Diddy: Yeah, and I wanted to meet the brother of the person who defeated DK in a fight.
Luigi: DK? You mean, that kong with the red tie?Dixie: Yep. Dixie and I are huge fans of him. Anyway, you ready for the thrill of adventure?Luigi: Well, yes and noDiddy: What? What do you mean?Luigi: What I mean is...I'm excited to go on this adventure with Mario but it's the destination that's terrifying me.Dixie: You've been to the Darklands before?Luigi: Yeah, and I was imprisoned by Bowser and nearly killed so yeah, not too keen on going to the Darklands but I'll do what I have to help my brother and my friends.Dixie: So, tell us a bit about yourself.Diddy: Yeah, we want to get to know a new friendLuigi: Friend? Me?Dixie: Yes, you're going to be our friend if you want.Luigi: You know, I think I would like a few friends, even if they are kongs. So what do you want to know?Dixie: Well, what do
Diddy and Dixie were impressed. Mario soon joined to conversation.Mario: Lu, are you making friends of your own?Luigi: Um, I think so? I was just trying to talk to these two kongs.Dixie: Yeah, and your brother seems really nice.Diddy: Yeah??: STOP RIGHT THERE YOU!!!The group stopped in their tracks.Daisy: Who's there?Toad: We're not afraid of you!?: Oh, but you should fear meToadette: What do you mean?
Dixie: Give us a reason to fear you. We don't even know who you are.?: Oh, you're rightThe figure came out of the mushroom trees and bushes. The figure was a koopa with blue robes, glasses, and a scepter in hand. The koopa eyed the group with malice.Luigi: Y-You...?: Ah, yes Luigi, it is I, Kamek.Mario: Uh, who?Kamek: Quiet mustachioed human! Prince Bowser Junior sent for me to capture you and I will not fail him.Peach: Oh yeah?Kamek: Yes, dear Peach. You all are coming with usDaisy: No we're-wait..us?Kamek: Yes. NOW!!Suddenly, a the group was surrounded by goombas, shy guys, koopa troopas, paratroopers, and dry bones. Then, Bowser Junior appeared beside Kamek, grinning when he saw Peach.Junior: Mama Peach! I've come for you! We're going home!Peach: I'm sorry what?Junior: Don't give me that! Before you captured him, Papa told me everything! He told me that my mama was kidnapped by a bad man named Mario, so I came here with my troops and Kamek to rescue you. And now that we've found you, you're coming back home and the rest of your group are going in the dungeon. Troops, get them!The troops closed in on the heroes and Dixie hid behind Diddy who go out Donkey Kong's coconut gun. Toad got out his frying pan and gave Toadette a second frying pan. Mario smashed a fire flower, his overalls becoming red and his shirt and hat becoming white. Luigi activated an ice flower and his green shirt became blue and his overalls became green and his hat became the same blue as his shirt and, remembering how Mario and Peach showed him, he readied an ice ball. Peach activated a super bell, turning her into a pink cat and Daisy activated a super bell as well and became an orange cat.Junior: Ugh, must this all be so dramatic? Vey well then, a fight it is.From there, it was pure chaos. Mario and Luigi started throwing fire and ice balls respectively at oncoming enemies. Peach and Daisy used their cat abilities to climb up the mushroom trees and take down the paratroopas. Diddy and Dixie assisted Peach and Daisy with the paratroopas. Toad and Toadette were whacking enemies with their frying pans. Once, Mario was cornered by a group of shy guys. Luigi noticed and got up on one of the trees to jump on over to Mario.Mario: Get away from me!Luigi: Mario! Watch out!Mario quickly ducked out of the way as ice balls rained down from the sky where Luigi was standing. Within seconds, the entire group of shy guys was frozen in ice blocks. Luigi jumped down from the mushroom tree he was on.Luigi: Woo! That felt so good!!Mario: That was awesome Lu! But it's not over yet!Luigi: Right!Bowser Junior and Kamek were cornering Peach and Daisy. Peach held her claws in defense of herself and Daisy.Peach: I don't know who you are and you have to get away from me and Daisy before it's too late!Bowser Junior: Ha! Yeah right. Like that's happening Mama Peach! You and your group are coming back to Papa's fortress where you will be my Mama.Peach: NOT A CHANCE!! DAISY!!Daisy leapt up above Peach and tried to come down on Kamek but the Magikoopa just caught her in his magic and threw the Sarasaland princess to the side, sending her crashing into the mushroom bushes.Peach: DAISY!! NO!!Mario and Luigi heard this yelling and Mario looked ahead of him. Most of the enemies were taken down.Mario: Luigi, I've got the rest of these enemies. You go help Princess Daisy!Luigi: On it!Luigi ran to where Daisy had landed and saw that her power-up had faded. Luigi rushed to her side and got on his knees.Luigi: Princess? Princess Daisy? Are you alright?Daisy groaned and weakly opened her eyes. Looking up, she saw Luigi sitting next to her.Daisy: Ye-yeah, I'm okay. Lost my power-up though. C'mon, Peach is cornered by Bowser Junior and Kamek, we have to help her.Luigi: Right, let's do it.Daisy and Luigi ran to Peach and saw that Bowser Junior and Kamek were trying to tie her up. Furious, Luigi threw two ice balls, hitting Bowser Junior and Kamek, literally freezing the two koopas in their tracks. Daisy ran over to Peach and untied her.Peach: Thank you Daisy. Thank you Luigi.Having defeated the enemies, Mario, Toad, Toadette, Diddy, and Dixie soon arrived.Toad: Princess! Are you okay!Peach: I'm fine. Is everyone else okay?Mario: Lu? You okay?Luigi: Yeah, I'm fine. You?Mario: Yeah, I'm fine.Luigi noticed that Mario and Peach's power-ups were gone.Luigi: You got hit?Mario: Yeah, a group of enemies managed to de-power me but I soon put a stop to their games.Diddy: We should probably go before-Diddy was cut off when Bowser Junior, Kamek, and the other downed enemies got up. Bowser Junior glared daggers at the group.Bowser Junior: Grrrr! Troops! Retreat!! Mama Peach, others. You haven't seen the last of us!!Mario, Luigi, Peach, Daisy, Toad, Toadette, Diddy, and Dixie watched as the troopas retreated. Peach looked away, looking thoughtful.Peach: Slight change of plans everyone.Daisy: What do you mean?Peach: We're gonna have to take a stop.Mario: A stop?Luigi: Where?Peach: The Comet Observatory.

That night after the fight against Bowser Junior and Kamek, the group had decided to take a rest break in the fire flower fields where they tended to their wounds from the battle earlier that day. The power-ups had faded but the group wasn't worried. Mario had sat down under a nearby tree, his hat beside him. Luigi soon joined him.Luigi: Mind if I join you?Mario: Not at all Lu. Make yourself comfortable.Luigi sat down and leaned against Mario, who put his arm around his little brother.Mario: Boy, today was something wasn't it?Luigi: Mhm. Didn't think I was gonna be able to fend off those enemies like I did. I thought I would be de-powered.
Mario: You did great today Lu. I'm proud of you.Luigi: Well, I was unsure of what I was doing. I wasn't thinking throughout that fight.Mario: Well, sometimes not thinking can be a really good thing. You did good fighting beside me and helping Princess Daisy.Luigi: But, after I left, you lost your power-up. I should've been helping you, then you wouldn't have lost your power-up!Mario sat up and looked at Luigi incredulously.
Luigi: What?
Mario: Luigi, it doesn't matter that I lost that power-up. I brought plenty of power-ups. That was barely an inconvenience, by then most of the enemies were taken down. It didn't make much of a difference, me losing that power-up. I'm just glad you didn't get hurt.Luigi: What if something similar happens in the Darklands? What if you lose your power-ups and the enemies are still coming? What if-Luigi was cut off when Mario hugged him.Mario: Luigi, none of that will happen, and even if it does, then I know you'll have my back, right?Luigi: Always, I wouldn't let anything happen to you. You're my brother, my everything. If it wasn't for you, I'd be....Luigi trailed off. Mario, sensing the distress in his brother decided to change the conversation.Mario: Let's not focus on that right now. Hey, Toad! How much longer on that meal?Toad and Toadette, who had been working on dinner for the group looked up at Mario.Toad: Not much longer Mario. Only about five minutes!Mario: Good.Luigi was gazing up at the stars, a far off look in his eyes.Mario: Lu?Luigi: I was just thinking. What if we can't win this time? Last time we barely managed to beat Bowser. We were only able to do it because we had the Super Star. This time, what do we have?Mario came over to Luigi.Mario: I'll tell you what we have. We have something even stronger than a Super Star. We have each other and there ain't nothing we can't do as long as we're together.This made Luigi feel better and he smiled at Mario who smiled back. Meanwhile, Peach and Daisy were talking.Daisy: Can't believe I lost my power-up because of Kamek. How pathetic of me.Peach: Hey, Daisy, it's okay.Daisy: What if we can't take those koopas down? What if Princess Rosalina isn't enough? You told me that the Kongs were captured last time and the koopas have the help of the Kremlings and they have Donkey Kong and Funky Kong prisoner. Not to mention, the koopas and kremlings have most likely taken over the Jungle Kingdom.Peach: Princess Rosalina is one of, if not the most powerful beings in this world. Her magic eclipses even Kamek's. She'll be able to help us.Toad: Dinner's ready everyone!The group joined Toad and Toadette around the fire and Toad distributed their dinner. As they ate, Luigi looked at Peach.Luigi: Princess Peach? If you don't mind me asking, who's this Princess Rosalina?Peach: Oh, please Luigi, just call me Peach. Princess Rosalina is a the protector of the universe. She's also the princess of the lumas and her magic is immensely powerful.Luigi: Lumas? They're little stars right?Daisy: Yes, they are. How did you know?Luigi: I met one while I was imprisoned by Bowser the first time. The Luma was quite morbid. Kept talking about death.Daisy: That makes senseMario: I'm sorry?Peach: The reason that Luma wanted to die was because when Lumas die, they're reborn and continue living as small planets.Luigi: Oh, that's interesting.Diddy: Oh yeah. Dixie and I have also wanted to see one and to meet Princess Rosalina.Mario: How powerful is Princess Rosalina?Dixie: Oh, we've heard she's more powerful than even Kamek.Toadette: Who?Luigi: Bowser's magic koopa. He's...not the most pleasant let's just say.Toad: He electrocuted me until Princess Peach agreed to Bowser's wedding.Mario: And what of Bowser Junior and the koopalings?Luigi: If they're Bowser's children then I'd imagine that they're just as horrible as he is.

The group continued to chat about their plans to convince Princess Rosalina to join them in the fight against Bowser Junior's force. Unbeknownst to them, two humans were watching them. These humans were Wario and Waluigi.Waluigi: Going to get the help of the space princess huh? Well, Bowser Junior and Kamek will want to know about this.Wario: Indeed. How about we stall them?Waluigi: But Wario, there's more of them then there are of us and they managed to take down the forces that Bowser Junior and Kamek brought with them to capture them. Also, they have power-ups and we don't. What chance do we have against them?Wario: We steal their power-ups buddy.Waluigi: Even still, without power-ups, Princess Daisy, Princess Peach, and even Mario are formidable fighters.Wario: Yeah, Peach, Daisy, and Mario. We also have King Boo and King Bob-omb on our side. Once we come back with new troops, maybe some boos and bob-ombs, the boos steal the power-ups and the bob-ombs keep Mario, Peach, and Daisy busy while the two of us swoop in and take Luigi, those two toads, and those two kong kids prisoner.Waluigi: That might work, but Luigi, the toads, and the kong kids still have power-ups at the ready. What do we do then?Wario: We steal them, of course. They're just a bunch of weaklings, especially Luigi and those two kong kids. This'll be simple. Now, you go back to Bowser Junior and Kamek, ask for the troops and bring them back while I keep an eye on them here.Waluigi: You got it!Wario turned back to the group and watched them as Waluigi ran off to the nearest warp pipe back to the Darklands. Once back in the Darklands, Waluigi made his to the remains of Bowser's fortress and knocked on the throne room doors.Bowser Junior: ENTER!!Waluigi entered and bowed down to Bowser Junior and Kamek.Bowser Junior: Report, Waluigi.Waluigi: Wario and I have found the two mustachioed humans and the princesses. They are on their way to the Comet Observatory and I came back to get new troopas and the assistance of some boos and bob-ombs. That way, there would be enough troops to steal the power-ups from them and even kidnap the green human, the two toads, and the kong kids.Bowser Junior and Kamek looked at Waluigi, thoughtfully.Kamek: Young master, that could work. I could easily get to the Boo kingdom and the Bob-omb kingdom and recruit some of their citizens. Seeing as King Boo and King Bob-omb are good friends of Lord Bowser.Bowser Junior: Vey well. This better not fail like last time.Kamek: I assure you, young master, it will not fail.Bowser Junior: Waluigi! Rejoin Wario, just in case those pesky heroes try anything tricky or stupid.Waluigi: Yes, Bowser Junior.Bowser Junior and Kamek watched as Waluigi left the room and Kamek disappeared to the Boo kingdom. Waluigi jumped in a warp pipe and found Wario still watching Mario, Luigi, Peach, Toad, Toadette, Diddy Kong, and Dixie Kong. The group was getting ready to settle down for the night. Wario turned to Waluigi.Wario: Well?Waluigi: Kamek is off getting the boos and bob-ombs to join us in the fight and more troopas are on their way. If we can ambush those guys while they are still asleep then we won't have any trouble.
