Legend says that there was nothing, in the beginning. Then there was a flash of light, the birth of the first god.The God of Creation looked at the empty space, and saw a canvas. In it, he painted the stars, planets, our moons, suns and our home. When the backdrop was made, he moved onto the oceans, trees and grasslands. Then he created humans. Sixteen different families, so that they could diversify and grow, without harm.He placed them in the four regions of our continent, so that resources would be abundant, and they would travel, explore and experience all he had to offer. Then he made the Gods and Goddesses. Allowing them to flourish on their own before they met each other. He watched as Life and Death met, for the first time thirty years after creation, and their romance bloomed. He graced them with a daughter. Night. With Night, he decided to give Land and Ocean a son, Day, so humans could experience both. The Gods and Goddesses learned to grow without the help of their creator, meeting and taking worship from humans in return they gave magic and miracles.Creation looked upon what he had made, and felt lonesome. So he went to Love and from him learned his existence would forever be alone.“You are the parent to all, and overpower everything. It would never be fair for us, nor the humans, to be with you. You want romance, but the universe only made you. As your child I am sorry.”Creation, though hurt by the idea, accepted what Love had said. He knew, in his heart of hearts, he could not create anything that would be his own.But still, when it grew quiet, and all slept with the help of Sleep, he grieved. His tears hit the oceans, creating mermaids who longed to walk on the shores, to be with humans, and who would turn into seafoam should they be unable to mend their broken hearts.Eventually Wind found the poor creatures, and offered to carry their souls back to life, so they could be reborn alongside their lovers, while not guaranteed to love each other again, they’d keep their promise to meet again. For seven long years, Creation would grieve, their sorrow creating more creatures with sorrowful lives.Dragons who would only mate with one other, with lives so long they never fit in with others, slow to mature, Fire took them in, and taught them how to cook their meals before eating, and how to fly beautifully in the skies.Vampires, whose survival on blood made them feared and discarded. Where they struggled to establish bonds for fear they would hurt their friends. Night blessed them to thrive in darkness and to find one another to stave off the loneliness.Faeries, a creature who could never lie, but danced in and out of realms. Curious creatures that couldn’t comprehend humans, and fascinated by them. Separated only by their founded realms, Nature blessed them with a connection to the plants and animals, giving them a sense of family.Shapeshifters, ones without their own forms and identities, taken in by Order, so that they could retain a more rigid understanding of themselves and their lives, to not lose themselves in transformation.Phoenixes, a bird so spectacular and bright, whose own passionate fires burned them to ash. Given the ability to rise back from the ashes by Life, they experience eternal rebirth.Demons, who survived on taking souls and causing mayhem, were taken in by Chaos, who sought to allow their outlets in the forms of natural disasters and to assist in the cycle of life and death.Angels, the final of them all, whose forms killed those that viewed them that were not gods. Servants to the Gods and Goddesses, they lacked a heart and could not love. Love, having felt their despair, gave them the ability to make their own hearts if they wish, by building it with ones they wish to love.In the eighth year, Life spoke to Creation, in desperation to prevent more suffering through his grief.“Oh Father, you have suffered so. I hear your pleas and I see your grief. I offer a solution. You may not directly love your creations as I love Death, but a piece of you could. Allow me to make you a vessel, for a fraction of yourself to live in among the humans, you could experience life, death and rebirth, and through this never be truly alone again.”Creation thought it over a bit, while it wouldn’t be himself in full, her offer would ease his aching heart. He agreed, letting her create him a form.A year later, his mortal body was born in a village full of devout worshippers. But something was wrong, for his vessel was a woman.Guided by truth, convinced of a bad omen, they killed the infant.Creation could not take the blow to their heart. Even knowing he would see them reborn, the agony of such cruelty stung. So he pulled away from his creations. Knowing now, it was best that he sleep until he was needed to create again. The Gods and Goddesses cried out, begging for him to stay, but they were ignored. This is the story of creation. Of the years we mark our time. The year of Nature celebrates the cosmos, our planet and our home. The year of the Human, celebrates us, our culture and our legacy. The year of the Mermaid, to celebrate love lost and found again. The year of the Dragon, to celebrate age old wisdoms, and when we learned to cook our food. The year of the Vampire, to celebrate our hunters and warriors, who work tirelessly for our sakes. The year of the Faerie, to celebrate our connection with nature and what sustains us.The year of the Shapeshifter, to celebrate our ever changing and unique natures. The year of the Phoenix, to celebrate rebirth and our continued bloodlines, of past glories and future victories. The year of the Demon, to celebrate random chance. That our sorrows will bring us together and make us stronger. The year of the Angel, for our devout adherence to the God’s wills and their teachings. The year of Life. For without her, we would not be here. The year of Death, for he takes us back to Life for us to be reborn once more. Finally, the year of Creation, marking the cycle of when he was said to be reborn, so he may bless us to create more.Thirteen years to our cycle. On the thirteenth and twenty sixth birthday, you go through celebrations of aging. First into a teenager, then into a full grown adult.Humans are the most devoted of the creatures, awaiting for when one day, Creation’s true vessel walks the world among us.We wait for when Chaos and Demons no longer plague our Creator, so we may greet him as he should be.It has been two thousand years, but still we wait.
