Fucking Gavin. How the hell could someone have this much brain power in the mornings? I thought it was a smart idea coming to the break room as soon as i arrived to work today, but obviously he'd be there, how could i forget the guy is a caffine maniac? Its not like i dont like the guy, hell, hes probably my best friend, but my god, does he tell stories. The enthusiasm as he spoke, i couldnt get it round my head. He was such a cold guy to others but once he was explaining something he actually enjoyed or found amusing, it was like that whole harsh persona shifted into just a heartfelt guy, like the kind of guy you'd expect your next door neighbour to be when you move into a new town.Half leaning across the table, i watched as his crossed arms became open every now and then as his hands gestured to help explain the story to me.Though i cant say ive been keeping track. Im probably on my 5th 'oh really?' By now."..and, well you know how it goes, right? So i said to 'em: Alright, i know that, but.."My mind started to drift again, going to calming places like the beach, imagining a walk along the mountains during the spring. I could imagine the smell of the fresh air now. Itd be better than this bright ass police station at 10am on a Tuesday. Anywhere would be by now.The smell of coffee kept distracting me from my dreams though, along with the fact Gavin would not stop moving around for the love of god. He just had to explain this shit with passion, "..And we made it to the car, up to these women, and guess what. They were guys."I nodded with a fake look of bewilderment on my face and a surprised smile as i listen and nod, trying to pull together whatever the fuck he was talking about by simply saying:"Seriously?" Between a light hearted chuckle. And apparently chuckling was the right thing for me to do, considering he pulled himself back from the table to let out a loud laugh of his own before pulling himself together quickly. It wasnt often he genuinely laughed like that, so i guess i should savour the moment."Seriously. They jus' had long hair, shouldve seen Chris' reaction. So they suddenly lunge at me..."He rambled, his hand gestures becoming more and more all over the place as he waffled. "..And i think of the best idea to turn the tables. BOOM"He makes a head butting gesture, causing me to raise a brow and shake my head, smirking unbelievably at this weird ass story that im still trying to piece together. Sounds kind of fake if you ask me, but what the hell do i know. Gavin raises his hands defensively as he keeps going, "'Woahh' is what Chris was like, but i swear he shit his pants." he cocked his head to the side, "Annddd we did get 'em. The guys,"He chuckled slightly as he went to sip his coffee, shaking his head and putting his cup down before licking his lips, bending across the table again.Blinking, i cleared my throat after having attempted to put all that together with what i heard and what i totally missed"So.. you and Chris were.. after some people you thought were women because they seemed under the influence.. then turns out they were guys just with long hair, they got mad because you thought they were girls, lunged at you, but you managed to get them down anyways?"I raised a brow as i went over it, hoping i wasnt wrong so Gavin wouldnt tell me the whole story all over again. He lightly chuckled again, nodding"Sounds less funny when you say it like that," He smiled down at the table, before raising his head, along with me as i heard footsteps. I heard him exhale through his nose as we both caught sight of the new android guy who strolled into the break room.Huh. Id heard rumours about a new android joining the team, but by 'the team', i assumed they meant as just a file sorter and stuff. But.. this android looked more advanced, and not in usual uniform. Smart attire, none the less, but it clearly seemed to piss Gavin off. I think id seen him the night or so before.. Hell if i can remember right, i was exhausted yesterday, so i probably did see the thing but didnt pay it much attention. I remember Gavin storming out of an interrogation room though, surprise surprise, his temper got the best of him. This guy and goddamn androids, he couldnt help himself, always feeling like he was being threatened by them as more and more started replacing the economically active in society. My eyes stayed trained on him, hoping he wouldnt act out, but he was unpredictable most of the time."Fuck, look at that," I heard him scoff smugly, a hidden look of almost worry behind his eyes that only i could notice as he stared at the back of this android. My head turned towards him, his eyes analyzing the thing, when usually it should be the other way round, "Our friend the plastic detective is back in town!" He seemed sarcastically excited.I stayed quiet, letting him go off on his usual attitude-filled rant about androids. But to one as advanced as this seemed to be? What was its name again?"Congratulations on last night, very impressive!" He slow clapped, fixing his posture to stand properly for a couple seconds before leaning again, not dropping that smug grin of his. Meanwhile, i stayed seated. The android slowly turned to face us and my eyes grazed across his suit. Fancy. RK800, huh? Didnt seem familiar to me, but i was more interested in what Gav had to say about this as i cocked my head towards him for a moment. Out of the corner of my eye, the android seemed very.. calm. Not really showing emotions. Well no shit, its an android, but with recent cases about deviants, who knows anymore if they are or arent capable of feelings."Hello, Detective Reed." It greeted simply, nodding at Gavin with a slight smile. I inspected the android, it sure was an interesting model. Were Cyberlife ever gonna stop making these things?Gavins fingers brushed against the top of his coffee cup before he let go and stood up lazily, walking confidently over to the android whilst looking it up and down with disdain. At least give the thing a chance, even if they hadnt gotten off on the best foot yesterday, it'd be nice to start over. But Gavin never sees things that way, hes too much of a damn overthinker, always expecting an android to take everything away from him some day."Never seen an android like you before," The height difference between them made me almost want to chuckle, but i didnt want to set Gavin off even more. He looked around the android, as if he was suspicious of it hiding something from him, "What model are you?""RK800. I'm a prototype." The bot said, nodding once again at Gavin matter of factly, but also seemingly proudly. He raised a brow at that, nodding to somewhat mimic the android."A prototype?" He replied curtly, still sarcastic as ever but also that glint of nervousness hiding behind his deep voice. The guy needed to calm down some time, I highly doubt Cyberlife is going to try replacing all detectives with androids, i mean, they cant be that reliable if a load of them are becoming deviant. They could just stop doing their job, criminals would be everywhere! Gavin turned to face me with a 'can you believe this shit' kind of look on his face, "Android detective." He stated, pointing at the machine who looked over at me. Kinda creepy how realistic they were."So machines are gonna.. replace us all. Is that it?" I caught Gavin looking it up and down again, slower this time with the sound of worry more prominent behind his, usually abrasive, thick voice this time. Not many people know Gavin well, always just taking him for a piece of shit dickhead who couldnt give a rats ass about others. But he wasnt really when you get to know him. The guy worked hard to get where he is today, hes super fucking ambitious about his job and did everything to achieve it, so sure, i understand why hes being so cold to this RK800. It's gonna worry him, hell, It'd worry anyone, to think that an android can strip the thing you worked your life off for away from you without having to do any hard work itself. It could be made in days and within an instant, it could snatch that job Gavin loves away from him."Hey. Bring me a coffee, dipshit." He ordered, despite the fact he still has a coffee on this damn table. I silently sigh as he tries to show his dominance against a literal robot. Trying to be the bigger guy here, but always ends up looking like the idiot. Course I'd never say that to his face. The sounds of the whirring telephones and murmuring chatter coming from the office really brought the whole scene together, a reminder that though it was just us in the break room, the whole team were just a couple steps away and could intervene, should anything break out. Knowing Gavin, that was a possibility. The android blinked at Gavin and tilted its head ever so slightly. I couldnt tell if it was analyzing him or.. genuinely confused by his order, considering the fact they were.. exactly buddies or anything. "Get a move on!" Gav raised his voice, frowning at the lack of response he recieved. God, he was a control freak, but he was still my best friend. As the android turned around finally to make the drink, I watched Gavin turn to me and quietly laugh at how unbelievable he found this. I awkwardly smiled and watched the scene unfold while he took a couple steps back, waiting. When the android finished, he walked towards Gavin, hand holding out the coffee for him to take, though he just stared idly at it, then at RK800, unhappy about how close It'd brought itself to him. He enjoyed his personal space after all.Pushing the coffee away from him, he glared at the android, "Do yourself a favour." His eyes were icy, hiding the millions of thoughts I could assume were running through his mind about this, "Stay outta my way." He pushed his index finger against the bots chest, pushing him back lightly before holding his stare in an attempt of intimidation before finally turning back to face me.Gavin started to leave, so i gathered that was my cue too. Leaving my empty coffee cup on the table, and his half full, luke warm one, i watched as the android from the corner of my eye kept holding out the fresh cup, waiting for somebody to take it from him, but they never did.I would've spoken to Gav about what just happened, but he turned the other way, presumably to his desk, leaving me to go my own way to check my duties for the day.Goddamnit, Gavin. I know hes upset about this whole thing, but maybe it wont be so bad having an android with us. It seemed to be pretty useful so far, but.. if it was too useful, it would definitely be a problem for every detective in the DPD.I dont wanna piss him off anymore, he has better shit to worry about than androids right now.. but I'll definitely talk to him about this later when the time is right.
