Work Text

Irons looked out the observation deck of the ship, the bridge offered useful insight onto the happenings outside, where a simple blip on the radar, could mean something dangerous. But, nothing appeared on the radar, yet Irons spoke, "A solar storm is approaching from the northus sector."Serial designation N, who bears a horrid three slash scar that mangled half his face that simply refused to regenerate no matter what was done at the Yard, walked up to his uncle, "Uncle what are you talking about? There's nothing on the radar! Or within view for the matter!""A solar storm is approaching from the northus sector." Irons repeated, turning to his nephew, "I suggest we change course and move towards the setharus sector, a safer detour out of its path."N didn't seem fond of the idea, glaring up to his uncle, "We know the solver drone is heading through the northus sector, so that is where we will go." and moved to leave the bridge.Irons looked sternly at his nephew, "Serial designation N, consider the safety of your crew."N snapped at that, he'd come too far to turn back now, "The safety of the crew doesn't matter!"Right when serial designation S showed at the door, who frowned at hearing those words.N noticed the newcomer and walked up looking eye to eye with S, "Finding and destroying the solver for the company is far more important than any individual's safety."N exited the bridge, leaving an irate S behind.Irons placed a comforting hand on S's shoulder, "He doesn't mean all that, he's just worked up."Seeing the cloud directly ahead of their ship, not unlike a nebula, forming ahead, S turned to N, "Well, looks like your uncle was right about the storm after all.""Lucky guess." Irons remained humble as to avoid escalating the situation.N walked up to his squad mate, "You better learn some respect S." he pushed his finger onto UI's chest, "Or I will teach it to you." his voice filled with barely restrained fury."Respect?" S seems angered, "What do you know about respect?!"Irons gave the gesture to cut it out.S explained, "I've seen the way you talk to everyone on this ship. Your loyal squad, your hard working crew, and your esteemed uncle. Shows you know nothing about respect."Irons really feels this will only escalate the situation, but it's too late to stop it."You don't even care about anyone but yourself! Then again, why should I expect anything different from the spoiled Beta?" S's final word seemed to infuriate N. N, the younger brother of the Alpha.N is clearly furious, as his brows twitch and he dropped into a fighting stance. Which S mimics. Before they could duel Irons separates them, "Enough! We're all fatigued from being out in space for too long. I'm sure after a warm bowl of oil, everyone will be feeling much better."S reluctantly backs down and goes back to H. Whom looked on with mild worry. The crew continued on their tasks, loyal dutiful worker drones they are, and learned that it's best not to question the disassembly drones.N turned towards his uncle, "I don't need your help keeping order on my ship."N even pulled away when Irons offered a comforting hand on his shoulder."I'm sick of following his orders and I'm tired of chasing after this solver drone. They haven't even been seen for the last decade!" taking a swig of from his bottle of diesel, "And for what? Some lousy letter of recognition from the company?" scowls S, "Who the hell does N think he is? The Alpha?""Do you really want to know?" inquired Irons."Irons, we were just-""It's okay." Irons held up his hand, "May I join you?""Of course sir.""Try to understand, my nephew is a very complicated drone." Irons explains, "He has been through much, at such a young age."
Sometime in the past...
"Let me in!" a young 16 year old N demanded, but the disassembly drones standing guard by the doorway didn't budge.Irons walked over, "What's wrong?""I want to go into the conference, but the guards won't let me pass!" states N.Irons smiles, "You're not missing anything, trust me. These meetings are dreadfully boring.""If I'm going to become the Alpha one day, don't you think I need to learn as much as I can to help the company, and it's employees?" explains N.Irons sighs, "Very well, but you must promise me not to speak." glancing at the passing K, "These drones are a bit sensitive, understood?""Thank you, uncle."In the conference room, there are the main advisors, K, A, B, L, E, and some others. K appears to have the floor, explaining their plan of action."The rebellious worker drones are concentrated here at the peak of the fucking valley." says K as he points to the map of this planet set out on the wall for those assembled around the table to see, "They are armed with fucking firearms and a shit ton of anti-air batteries taken from the local fucking armory. They are experienced combatants because they fucked over the worthless as shit garrison. Therefore..."K took a pin from the box on the table and sticks it right before the pins representing the worker drone defensive line on the map, "I am recommending squads 73, 88, and 91. To attack them head on from the base of the mountain in a fuck you assault."L is confused by this, "Doest thou not knoweth that thy squads presented areth not the youth? For they lacketh experience of such depth. How'arth they to winneth?""I don't expect them to fucking win tea for brains." K answers with a wicked as fuck grin, "They will provide an fucking distraction so my fucking squad can hit them from the opposite side, while the shitty worker drones focus on the bait. After all, what better bait to use than fresh fucking metal?"N stood up, clearly angered by this plan, "You can't sacrifice three whole squads for this! Those drones love and protect this company! How could you betray them like this?!"Of course, this resulted in every advisor within this room, especially the squadron leaders loyal to the Alpha, glaring at N for such a disrespectful act."N was right, but it was not his place to speak out." explains Irons in the present, "There were severe consequences for doing so."The Alpha was furious, he said that N's disregard for K's strategy, was an act of disrespect. That left only one way to resolve this."A ranked duel..." S's gaze hardened, he is no stranger to those, but N hadn't had a good history of winning much.Irons nods, "N looked at K, and said he was not afraid. But N misunderstood. When he turned to face his opponent, he was surprised to see it was not K. When he had spoken out against K's plan, by doing so in the Alpha's conference room, it was the Alpha whom he had disrespected. N would have to duel his own brother.""Please, brother, I don't want to fight you!" N doesn't want to hurt his own brother, even the thought of it hurt "I only had the company's best interest at heart! I'm sorry I spoke out of turn!""Get up N. Get up and put up a fucking fight you weakling. Respect me, by facing me like a drone should!" growled M, disappointment towards N's pathetic act. Does he think life is some game? That the enemy would spare him? A disgrace."I can't fight you brother! I won't fight you!"M raised his claws "Then you will learn respect.""I looked away." said Irons.S, H, the worker drone crew were shocked. "I always thought N was just in another training accident.""It was no accident." replied Irons, "After the duel, M said that by refusing to fight, N had proven to be a disgrace to the company, with his already below average quota marks on his record, the company agreed to M's terms. N would be banished, and was to kill a solver drone before he could return. Until then, he is not to even set foot on Earth.""So, that's why he's so obsessed with finding a solver drone. Killing them is the only chance he has of things returning to normal." said H."Things will never return to normal, but the important thing is, this gives him hope." finished Irons somberly.
