The Love That Never Ends

Work Text

I became aware of him through whispers about a newcomer to our school. And the first time I saw him was when our paths crossed for the first time in the tenth grade, as I made my way to class through the crowded hallway. He didn't pique my interest, unlike my friends who were eager to meet him. Perhaps my concentration on academics and upcoming exams trumped any curiosity. However, by senior year, with a lighter course load and less academic pressure, I found myself drawn to him for reasons I couldn't quite put my finger on.I still remember the day I eventually went up to him in the hallway and asked to be friends. His wide smile and hearty nod of approval signaled the start of our friendship. the next day was awkward at first, but it quickly subsided when we realized how much we loved the same music, movies, and sports. Weeks became months as our relationship grew closer and more facets of our personality emerged. I found out about his love for roses, his preference for winter, his fondness for the color green, and the fact that he has an older sister.Three months into our friendship, I found myself unexpectedly falling for him. The way his eyes gleamed with life, the cute way he scrunched up his nose in confusion, and the way he bit his cheek nervously under pressure were the small details that captured my heart. His willingness to assist others, his polite bows to elders, and his smiles at out lookers all demonstrated his kindness. His bag always contained cat treats, a sweet preparation when faced with a stray cat, and his face, which had a single dimple on the left. And in the midst of these charming qualities, I became aware of how important he had become to me.It wasn't merely the charming quirks that kindled my affection for him; they simply painted him in a more endearing light within my heart. Night after night, I pondered the mystery of my growing feelings. Eventually, clarity dawned on me: it was his essence that captivated me. There was no single trait that stood out, for it was the sum of him-his character, his looks, his smile, his eyes, his hair, and his fashion sense. It was the entirety of who he was that I had fallen in love with.On the 26th of March, during our final year, I stood before him, my heart overflowing with unspoken love. My heart raced, beads of sweat formed on my neck, heat rose to my cheeks, and my hands clenched into fists as I confessed. As I braced myself for rejection, I felt an emphatic embrace instead. His words "I love you too", brought me relief and happiness. With tears rolling down my face, I returned his embrace and let out all the emotions I had been holding inside. It was a cathartic moment, one that I cherished deeply..

.The moment our eyes met in the school hallway, there was an undeniable spark, an instant where I felt a profound connection. I felt as though I had fallen deeply in love. However, a part of me hesitated at the idea, questioning the possibility of such an instant connection without truly knowing her. Is it possible to fall in love without knowing someone? When I asked my sister for advice later that day, she reassured me that what I had experienced was typical and that it was called "love at first sight". She reassured me, but I couldn't help but wonder what was so special about her that made her occupy my mind.Every time I saw her in the hallways, I felt more and more compelled to talk to her, but I always held back, fearing she would think I was strange. With her classes on the fourth floor and mine just below, it frequently felt as though there was an invisible wall separating us, or perhaps fate was determined to keep us apart. she appeared ensconced behind a barrier, one that I couldn't take down.Though it stung, I considered giving up on her in the twelfth grade. However, she entered my life at that exact moment with an extended hand and the favor of being friends. and I agreed, thinking that maybe the world wasn't against us after all.The first day as friends was awkward, but it died down as she became more open towards me. With each passing day, I discovered the charming details of her being-her love for cats, her preference for the color purple, her love of sunflowers, her love of crocheting, and her passion for making origami. With every little information that I know about her, the more I felt myself falling in love. Day by day, she captivated my heart and my mind, disproving any thought that my love for her could be contained. With each passing day, my longing for her grows deeper, as I find myself thinking of jokes to share with her the next day-eager to hear her beautiful laughter. I make little demands. like listing the colors of the rainbow, just to hear her voice a little longer. This girl has become the center of my existence, and I wouldn't have it any other way.On the 26th of March, I mustered all my courage, bracing myself to declare my feelings to her. I saw her approaching me, so I nervously dried my palms on my pants and got ready to lay it all out, despite the risk of getting rejected. But before I could utter a single word, she exclaimed, "I love you". Her statement left me completely stunned; my carefully thought-out words were now tossed out the window. All I could do in that time of confusion was give her a hug and tell her that I too loved her back. She broke down in tears, a response that others would find strange, but that, to me, was the purest expression of our love for each other. Many of my family members would tell me how teenage love doesn't last, but as I stared at the girl in my arms, I promised myself that I would make this one last. And it seems I kept the promise because now we are getting married..

.I pull out my vows as I stand at the altar on March 26, precisely five years later."My Lovely Husband,
I never once thought of love until I met you. I found myself owning a diary and writing down my feelings. I found myself at night thinking of you. And I found myself searching for your face in the hallways. And when we got together, you gave me a love that I never thought I would end up experiencing. You filled up the piece of my heart that was missing. you gave me a shoulder to cry on and depend on when no one else was there. You were an amazing boyfriend, and I am sure you would be an even better husband. So, let us be partners, friends, and lovers, today and all of the days that follow. I give you my hand, my heart, and my love, from this day forward for as long as we both shall live".
.
.
.I wipe away my tears as I pull out my vows."My Lovely Wife,
I was always scared of love because I didn't want to get taken advantage of, but when I saw you, I couldn't stop my heart from falling in love. No matter what I did, you overtook my mind and my whole being. When I came crying to you, you took me in with open arms and accepted me for who I was at that moment. You filled my world with your laughter and your love, and because of that, I don't think I can live one day without you. I know with my whole heart that you would be the perfect wife and the perfect mother to our kids. I promise to love you and only you with my whole life. And if death does us part, then I promise to find you in every lifetime, because no matter if my memories are erased, my heart will always know they belong to you.".
.
.
.And as they kiss, they know that they will grow old together because this love for each other will never end.
