He impatiently tapped his foot on the floor, watching Kokichi have someone else wrap their arm around his shoulders. He narrowed his eyes, watching the two intensely. Kokichi looked uncomfortable from the touch, glancing around nervously.Kaito’s chest tightened with a mix of jealousy and protectiveness. He hated seeing anyone else so close to Kokichi, especially when he knew Kokichi wasn't enjoying the touch. He continued watching the two from afar, his jaw clenching and his fists tightening at his sides. Kokichi noticed him, flashing a small smile before the shorter boy continued to talk with the other guy next to him.The two spoke until lunch was over, Kokichi clearly relieved once the guy left. As Kokichi began to make his way to class, Kaito grabbed him by the arm and dragged him into one of the bathrooms. Kokichi yelped in surprise, but didn't pull away, used to Kaito randomly dragging him out of nowhere.“Momota-Chan, what are you doing..?” He asked as Kaito pinned him against the wall, his face quickly turning a soft shade of pink. Kaito’s eyes blazed with anger and something else Kokichi couldn't quite place.“What was that about?” Kaito demanded, his voice low and threatening. He placed his hand on Kokichi’s chin, making the shorter boy look up at him. “Who was that guy? Why was he all over you?” He continued, voice full of jealousy.Kokichi blinked, realizing that Kaito was just jealous. “I don’t know him… He came over to me first.”Kaito’s grip on Kokichi’s arm tightened, but he forced himself to take a deep breath and release Kokichi’s arm. He stepped back, running a hand through his hair in frustration. “Whatever,” He groaned, crossing his arms. “Don't let him get so close again, got it?”Kokichi saluted with two fingers, a small smirk on his face. “Yes sir!” He said before rubbing his arm where Kaito had grabbed him. Kokichi straightened his uniform, trying to smooth out the wrinkles.“You didn't have to be so aggressive, Momota-Chan.” He said, rolling his eyes. He looked up at Kaito, his large eyes reflecting a mixture of emotions—annoyance, confusion and something softer Kaito couldn't quite identify.Kaito sighed, rubbing the back of his neck. “Yeah, Yeah, I know. I don't like seeing other people close to you.”“Aww, someone’s jealous?” He chuckled, gently grabbing Kaito’s face to quickly kiss the taller boy. “You’re such a dummy, Momota-Chan.” He said as he watched Kaito’s face get red.“Be quiet, asshole.” He scoffed, flicking Kokichi’s forehead. “Let's just get to class. I don't need another detention already.”They walked out of the bathroom together, holding hands until they reached the classroom. Thankfully, the teacher wasn't in just yet. Kaito kept an eye on Kokichi, making sure no one else approached the smaller boy.The rest of the day passed by uneventfully, but Kaito’s mind kept drifting back to the incident at lunch. He'd kill the bastard who got close to his Kokichi, but he knew he couldn't, he’d end up behind bars. After school, they met up at their usual spot in front of the school gates. Kokichi was fiddling with his phone, his expression thoughtful. When he noticed Kaito approaching, he quickly shoved his phone into his pocket. “Momota-Chaann!” He smiled, taking Kaito’s hand once he got over.“Heya,” He smiled, ruffling Kokichi’s hair with his other hand. “Wanna grab something to eat? My treat.” He offered.Kokichi looked up at him, smiling more. “Sure!! Where to?”“There’s a new ramen place down the road I've been meaning to check out,” He shrugged, holding his hand firmly as they began walking down the road.“Yaay!”They walked together, the city bustling around them. The bright signs and chatter of people around them created a lively backdrop, but Kaito’s main focus was Kokichi. They reached the ramen place after a nice 10-15 minute walk, the savory aroma wafting out. Kaito held the door open for Kokichi, who flashed him a small, grateful smile before walking in.They found a booth near the back, away from the main crowd. The waitress took their orders, and soon they were sipping on the steaming bowls of ramen.“This place is pretty good,” Kokichi remarked between bites, eyes lighting up with amusement.Kaito grinned. “Told you I know the best places.”After they finished eating, Kaito leaned back in his seat, stretching his arms. “So, any other plans for today?”Kokichi shrugged, playing with a strand of hair. “No, probably just gonna head home and play games again. You?” He asked, looking back up at Kaito.“Nah, not much either.” He replied, crossing his arms. “Well, I can come over and we could play a few games together?” He suggested, smiling when he saw Kokichi’s face light up.Kokichi giggled, fidgeting with his hands. “Yea! That sounds fun!!”Kaito nodded, standing up and pulling out his wallet to pay the bill. “Alright, let's go, wanna get there before your parents get home.”They left after paying the bill, heading for Kokichi’s house. The walk to Kokichi’s house was filled with light conversation and teasing, the two boys falling into a comfortable rhythm. As they approached Kokichi’s house, the sky had begun to darken, the street lights turning on. Kokichi pulled out his keys and unlocked the door, stepping inside and holding it open for Kaito.“Mom and dad won't be home until late,” He said as he kicked off his shoes before leading Kaito to his room. “Sooo, we’ve got the place to ourselves for the next while!”Kaito nodded, his gaze wandering around the familiar house. He’d been here countless times, yet he always found it comforting. It was a stark contrast to his own home, which often felt empty and cold.Once in Kokichi’s room, Kokichi flopped onto his bed, grabbing a game controller and tossing another one to Kaito. “What do you wanna play?” he asked, his voice tinged with excitement.Kaito caught the controller and sat on the edge of the bed. “How about that new racing game? I bet I can beat you this time.”Kokichi’s eyes sparkled with mischief. “Oh, you’re on, Momota-Chan.”The next couple of hours were spent in friendly competition, the room filled with laughter and the sounds of the game. Kaito felt his earlier tension melt away, replaced by the simple joy of spending time with Kokichi. As the night wore on, they eventually set the controllers aside, their conversation drifting to more personal topics before they eventually decided to play minecraft until his parents arrived home.
