Rain covered the streets of Tokyo, turning them into rivers of reflections and neon lights from the signs that adorned the city. Pedestrians hid under their umbrellas, hurrying to their destinations to stay dry, oblivious to the world that thrived in the dark, hidden alleys of the city. Kazuki Ryuji stood in one of those alleys, ignoring the fact that the water had started to soak his fine black hair with red streaks. His hazel eyes were fixed on his phone screen, waiting for the final confirmation.
It wasn’t long before the rain stopped falling on him; someone had come to stand beside him, holding an umbrella over both of them. The young man with red streaks didn’t need to look up to know who it was. Luckily, his black suit was almost spotless despite the weather. His serious gaze remained on the screen, waiting for it to light up. Only the determination that had brought him there was reflected in his eyes. “The deal is done,” read the message on the screen. “It’s your turn, Sekiryū.”
Kazuki exhaled the breath he didn’t realize he had been holding and began to walk down the alley, his companion following a few steps behind. As he walked, he took out a pack of cigarettes and lit one. The tattoos adorning his body were barely visible beneath the sleeves of his shirt.
The rain started again. His mind drifted to the past, when the shadows of the Kurogawa-kai began to shape his future. His father, Takeshi Ryuji, held a high rank in the organization and always reminded him that, like his brothers, the day would come when he would have to make difficult decisions. And that day had arrived.
