Disclaimer: I own NOTHING from the Harry Potter franchise or the Dark Angel TV Series/Books. I only own my characters that I create. A/N: Ok. So, I know this is a weird crossover, but bare with me folks. This is going to be good. Just give this story a chance. Anyways, enjoy Chapter 1. 🍍TheDancingPineapple1987🍍
Gillette, Wyoming

2013

The escape was not my idea. I mean, escape to what? We didn’t know anything else.

The snow, woods, and a barb-wired fence. The loud sound of helicopters above, the intense lights, and the barking of dogs fade in the background.  There are fourteen young children in total whose ages range between six and ten with shaved heads running barefoot in nothing but thin hospital gowns through the dark forest as if their lives depend on getting away from the evil men that pursue them. Running. Never looking back, heart racing, feet cold and tender, and soldiers yelling in the background. They run to survive because if they take you, they might destroy you.

It was Zach who said we had to leave so we could be finally free. So, I guess he saved my life. Arty and I didn’t think we should separate, but Zach wouldn’t listen. And I never got the chance to thank him.

“Sir, I’ve ordered a full review, top to bottom, and believe me when I say that heads will roll. ” A random soldier intoned.

Colonel Donald Michael Lydecker, Co of Manticore angrily scans the snowy wilderness.

“Find them…all of them it’ll be your head that rolls, ” Lydecker replied coldly.

“But sir , what if they make it outside the wire? ” Another random soldier intoned.

Lydecker talks into his walkie-talkie, “ This is Lydecker. I want you to capture if you can, but if any of them make it to the perimeter , you are to terminate . Is that understood? ”

The voice on the walkie-talkie replies. “ Confirming, sir. You’re giving an order ten-zero six? ”

“ It’s my responsibility. Shoot them , ” Lydecker replied in a cold and angry tone.

Meanwhile…

The distance is closing between the evil men and the innocent children. The possibility of escaping to freedom is shrinking.  Their lungs are blazing, but they keep moving. Got to go faster, be faster. Just keep moving. Just keep moving. What the mind can conceive, the body can achieve. There are only two of them now. Two young girls of the same age. Best friends since they both clapped eyes on each other. Both inseparable.

The smaller-looking girl stumbles and falls. The other stops to help her up.

“Nyx, come on, we can do this. Just a little bit further now, ” The other girl, affectionately known as Arty, fervently whispered.

Nyx grasps Arty’s hand and quickly rises to her feet. They both nod to each other and then keep running.

“Thanks, Arty. ”

Arty smiles. Her brown eyes twinkle.

“No problem, Nyx. Now let’s get a move on .”
They both increase their running speed to a level unheard of in normal humans. The smell of pine permeates through the air as the noises of barking dogs, and the pitter-patter of feet and motors are heard in the distance.  They both leap to their feet and deck it to the thicker part of the woods as car wheels crunch over the snow.
“TARGETS LOCATED! READY TO ENGAGE! ”

Nyx can only watch in horror as Arty is hit with a few bullets in the stomach before she ultimately crumples to the ground.

“No----no---Arty! ” Nyx whispered.

Through her tears, Arty looks up at Nyx and mouths, “ Run! ”

Nyx nods before running as fast as her little legs can take her , but not for herself. She runs for Max, Zach, Brin, Ben, Syl, and all the others both free and not free. Nyx would never be able to forgive herself if all of them were captured because of her . So , as she climbs the barb-wired fence. She doesn’t look back, only forward to an unknown future.

Meanwhile…

“Sir, we’ve got seven so far. Three are wounded and two are killed . ” A soldier intoned.

“ You’ve got a huge problem if just one of them makes it past that fence. ” Lydecker threatened.

“Well, realistically, sir, it’s ten degrees out here. How far can any of these kids get? ” Another soldier intoned with mild disbelief.

Lydecker knows better. His kids were made to take a lot more than a snowstorm on a cold night. They were made to be the perfect soldiers to weather any situation with an efficiency that would make any common soldier crumble.

“Just find them. ” Lydecker snapped.

You know, sometimes it seems like it happened to someone else. Like, maybe it was a story that I heard somewhere. The hardest part is not knowing if any of them made it out alive. Heck, if I knew for sure that I was the only one left, it would be much worse. Well, at least now I can make up lives for them, like maybe Brin’s an artist, Jondy’s a fashion photographer, and Kari’s a Chef somewhere. Maybe all of them made it out, aside from poor Arty of course. The truth is they’d be just like me, living on the run, always looking over my shoulder. As much as I’d love to believe in the luxury of hope, hope is for losers. It’s a freaking con job people believe in until they finally get a grip on the cold, hard truth. Still, I hope that they’re out there somewhere, living their best lives and that they’re okay.  If that makes me a loser then, fine. I’m a loser, but a girl can dream, right?

New Orleans, Louisiana

2024
“Selena, it’s time to get up!” An older feminine with a slight southern twang yelled. The light brown-haired fifteen-year-old is startled awake by the all too vivid dream. She’s sweating and shaking, which is usual after one of these dreams. She immediately grabs a large bottle of L-Tryptophan from her bedside table, pops open the lid, and shakes down a few capsules from the bottle before downing them all in one go.  Another loud knock on her bedroom door makes her grimace as her head is pounding with a headache that she knows is going to last all day. It's moments like these that remind her that she is different from other people. Heck, she’s barely even human after all. “Selena, you’re going to be late for work if you keep dilly-dallying all day!’” Her adopted mother nearly screeched behind her bedroom door. “Alright, Alright, don’t get your panties in a bunch Mom. I’m coming!” Selena replied sarcastically before begrudgingly getting out of bed. Her mother walks away in a huff. Not happy about Selena’s tone of voice.  “Ugh! It’s gonna be one of those days!” Selena groaned as she made her way to her bathroom. Selena can’t help but give herself a once-over in the mirror. “Damn, I look like shit!” She groaned. Despite looking like she’s just been hit with a semi-truck; Selena is a beautiful girl. Heck, of course, she is considering she’s a genetically superior human being. Well, she’s mostly a human being. More like a Chimera, figuratively speaking considering she’s literally not a Greek mythological fire-breathing monster with a lion’s head, a goat’s body, and a serpent’s tail. However, if you want to get technical, Selena and others like her are called transgenics. Meaning they are genetically modified organisms that have been modified through recombinant DNA technology. Which means combining DNA from different genomes and/or inserting foreign DNA into a genome. That’s the textbook definition, but to put it simply, transgenics like Selena are a basic hodgepodge of DNA species and in Selena’s case, she has part human, part feline, and an unknown DNA sequence that she has yet to understand. The only thing she does understand is that she was always different from others in the unit. She doesn’t know why or how, but she has always understood that no matter where she goes, what she does, and who she meets in life she will always be different from other people.  The only common denominator that she and her brother and sisters shared was they were made to be one thing and one thing only. Perfect Soldiers . Well, that was until she and the rest of her unit had collectively decided to escape Manticore, the place that had been born, bred, and held captive for many years. The fear of the unknown was better than being their slaves, but that’s a story for another time. Selena’s tiny, but somewhat muscular 5’4 frame is covered in a sheen of sweat. Her long light brown hair is a matted mess, and her wide cornflower blue eyes and long dark lashes are overshadowed by prominent dark circles underneath. “I need to get more sleep,” She groaned before yanking off her PJ top and bottoms. It takes Selena twenty minutes to, “Shit, shower and shave,” as her adoptive mother puts it. The fact that it was almost 8 A.M. doesn’t escape her notice. “Aw fuck, I’m so going to be late,” She groaned as she makes her way down the stairs. “Here. Take this and enjoy!” Her mom says as she shoves a coffee and an egg and cheese hot pocket in her face. “Thanks, you’re a peach, Mom!” Selena grinned before taking her breakfast in hand. “Am I going to see you tonight?” Her mom intoned. “Um, I don’t know, I thought I might hang out with Cindy and Jess tonight. You know, grab a pizza and watch Netflix . Jess tells me that part two of Bridgerton’s out so…” Her mom smirks a little as she sips her coffee. “And here I thought you weren’t into shows like Bridgerton . What changed your mind?” Selena blushes a little at this. “Well, um, I’ve seen both seasons. Including part one of season 3 and now---erm---I’ve sort of become invested.” “You know it’s okay to try and fit in with all the other girls at a school, Selena. You don’t have to be ashamed of liking a show like Bridgerton despite it being a rather ‘girly’ show.” Selena blushes once again, “Um, I know Mom. Erm---thanks---um---” “Oh, give over now hun. You’re blushing like a little schoolgirl. Don’t act like I don’t know about the spicy scenes that all you girls like to watch on repeat.” “Oh, and like you don’t?” Selena retorts rather sarcastically. Her mother narrows her eyes but then grins rather mischievously. “You know, I heard that the carriage scene is pretty—” “Oh, dear god Mom, you’re the last person I want to be talking about sex with. Just ew!” Selena groans as she grabs her motorcycle keys.  Her mother chuckles at this saying, “Be safe on that motorcycle sweet pea. Are you wearing your lucky talisman?” Selena turns to look at her adoptive mother. Her cute, but slightly aged oval face is framed by a bleach blonde bob. Her kind brown eyes regard Selena with a serene expression. Her slightly plump figure is adorned in a floral summer dress that Selena bought her last month at a secondhand shop in town. Her neck is adorned with a five moons moonstone necklace that, according to her, represents the five faces of Hecate. The Goddess of witchcraft, magic, and ghosts. It’s a replica of Selena’s. Something that, according to her mother, had both been passed down to mother and daughters in her family for generations. Now Selena doesn’t believe in witchcraft like her mother, but she humors her by wearing the necklace all the same. To Selena, it symbolizes their bond as mother and daughter. “Of course, Mom and I’ll be careful as always.” “I still can’t believe I let you rope me into letting you buy that damn thing. It’s a fucking death trap is what it is.” Her mother grumbled. Selena rolls her eyes as she grabs her helmet. “See you later Mom! Love you!” Selena yelled before exiting the house. She stares lovingly at her sleek black Yamaha YZF-R6 that’s sitting in the driveway. “Well, hello my sweet.” Selena intoned as if expecting that she’d get a response back from the inanimate object before her. Selena glances at her watch and groans when she realizes that it’s past eight. “Aw shit! Steph’s going to kill me! I gotta get my ass to work!” And indeed, that’s exactly what she did. Too bad it will be her last normal day for a long time.     “Son of a bitch!” Selena snickers as she wipes down a table.  Her best friend Cindy hates working at the Café du Quarter, a small diner in the French Quarter. Selena isn’t too keen on working there either, but the boss is nice, and she always gets generous tips when she smiles the right way. “Not my fault you blazed an hour before your shift ended last night,” Selena replied rather sassily. “Yeah, but Kevin’s shift ended early, and I wanted to spend time with him before his parents made him go to New York to visit his sister for two weeks.” “To see his niece, Cindy, and besides, you’ll have the rest of the summer to get busy with him.”  Selena replied as she starts clearing another table. “I know, but what am I going to do for two whole weeks without him?” Cindy moaned as she continues to refill another ketchup bottle. “Kick it with me and Jess of course. We have the next two days off. We could spend the whole day at the pool, get a tan, and do some much-needed shopping,” Selena replied. Cindy leans against the counter twirling her dyed pink fringe as she contemplates Selena’s decision. Her green eyes twinkle with delight at the thought of shopping even though she knows Selena’s not into shopping. “Well, there is this new boutique that just opened. They have this skirt that I have been dying to get my hands on!” Cindy almost croons. Selena rolls her eyes, but her train of thought is interrupted when a TV news bulletin is interrupted by a familiar face.
“Do not attempt to adjust your set. ”
Cindy rolls her eyes, “Not this guy again. Just who is this ‘Eyes Only’ person anyways?”  Selena doesn’t respond as she listens intently to what is being said.
“This is a Streaming Freedom Video Bulletin. This cable hack is being beamed to you right across America. It cannot be traced ; it cannot be stopped.”
Selena’s ears perk up at this and for the first time in a long time, she feels a dead-seated dread in her gut. She doesn’t like where this is going. “This is a message for those known as X5. You have been compromised.” Selena’s hands shake causing the tray she’s holding to rattle in her hands, but she immediately steadies herself so as not to attract Cindy’s attention. Selena continues to listen closely to the broadcast.
“You are in danger. You know what to do.”
This is not good. How the fuck does Eyes freaking Only know about Manticore? Nevertheless, Selena immediately places the tray full of dishes on an empty table and then proceeds to untie her apron. Cindy notices this and immediately stops what she’s doing. “Whoa, whoa, whoa, girl, where are you going?  You know we have another hour until our shift is over!”
“I repeat: your locations have been compromised.”
Selena openly ignores Cindy as she makes her way towards the break room.
“You know what to do.”
“Hey, Selena, I’m talking to you!” Cindy yelled as Selena grabs her jacket and keys.
“This message will repeat every hour on the hour until each of you has checked in.”
Selena leaves the Café without looking back. Her heart breaks at the thought of leaving her friends and family behind, but the thought of putting them in danger sends an unwanted chill down her spine. She grabs her cell phone, throws it onto the ground, and stomps on it before hopping on her motorcycle. She speeds through the streets intent on getting to the safe house just outside the city as soon as possible so she can make the call. It starts to rain when she finally makes it inside the tiny little wood cabin far off the beaten track. She immediately pries open the floorboards and finds the box where a new set of identification cards, a large stash full of cash and a burner phone. She immediately dials the number and waits for someone to pick up. She doesn’t have to wait long when suddenly hears a very familiar male voice on the other end. “State your designation, soldier.” Selena grinds her teeth at being called a soldier . She’s spent eleven years trying to distance herself from Manticore and yet here she is, back in it as if no time has gone by since the escape.  “X5-254,” Selena replied. “Are you still in New Orleans, Nyx?” “Of course, Zack , where else would I be?” Selena snapped back. “Leaving, I hope. I want you to meet us at Monty’s Crab Shack in Ottawa, Canada. We have a safe house set up there,” Zack replied. “It’ll take me a few days to get there,” Selena replied. “Well, then you better get moving, Nyx, and don’t make any unnecessary stops. Just get out of there A.S.A.P. You hear me, sis?” “Yes, I hear you, Zack. Loud and clear.” Selena replied. “Good, now get moving little sis. We’ll be waiting for you.” “Wait, Zack, how many are---” Selena doesn’t have a chance to finish the sentence because Zack cuts the call short.” “Always gotta be a jerk, don’t you Zack.” Selena intoned angrily as she tosses the phone into her backpack. After she makes sure she has everything that she needs she’s almost at the door but stops when she sees two headlights in the driveway. “Shit!” Selena hissed as she crouches down under the small window.   “Why the fuck didn’t I find a place with a back entrance?” Selena whispered to herself. Selena has no choice but to wait where she is until she can make the next move.  She waits with an abated breath as the person gets out of the car and makes their way up the small gravel driveway. Selena grabs an old knife sitting on the table and readies herself to attack the person when they come through the door. A familiar perfume permeates the air as the person quietly enters the small, darkened cabin and she can’t help but be shocked when she sees a familiar face enter the room. “Selena? Selena, are you there?” Selena immediately stands up and faces her mother.  “Mom!” Her mom immediately turns around and proceeds to shine her flashlight in Selena’s face. Her mother smiles her usual sly smile, which never fails to get a rise of Selena.  “Oh good, you’re still here. I thought you’d be gone by now given the circumstances,” Her mother intoned.  Selena continues to look at her mother completely dumbfounded by her sudden appearance. “Mom, what the hell are you doing here? How did you even find me?” Selena asks in an exasperated tone. Her mother rolls her eyes and then proceeds to fish something out of her purse. “That doesn’t matter now. What matters is that you get out of here before you’re found out,” she said as she places a strange necklace on a gold chain in Selena’s hands. Selena looks down at her hands at the strange necklace that looks like a gold sphere with what looks like an hourglass in the middle of it. She then looks up at her mother, puzzled by strange necklace in her hand.  “Wha---what is this mom? Another talisman of some kind?” “No hun, it’s a time turner. It’ll get you to where you need to go. It is time now for you to follow your destiny.” She replied in a serious tone. Selena looks at her mother as if she’s gone completely mental. “My destiny---what are you going on about? Mom, you know that if we were ever to be compromised, I’d have to go into hiding without any given warning. Your being here is not only dangerous for yourself, but for me as well. You could have been followed! And now you come here just to give me a freaking necklace telling me that it’s time to follow my destiny?” Selena nearly screeched. “Not just that, but these as well,” Her mother replied and then hands Selena a iPad, a charger, headphones and an old book.” “What are these for?!” Her mother rolls her eyes once more and proceeds to grab the items, aside from the necklace, and put them in Selena’s backpack. “These are for you to take with you on your journey, of course.” Her mother huffed as she continued to stuff the rest of the items into Selena’s backpack. “A where exactly am I supposed to be going, mother?” Selena asked in a skeptical tone.  “Oh, do keep up Selena, dear, I’m sending you back in time where it’s safe.”  Her mother replied in a normal tone as if what she just said was completely sane, which it isn’t.  “Go back in time? Mom, have you completely lost your mind?!” Selena yelled. Selena’s mother looks at her with an exasperated expression on her face. “Oh, Selena haven’t you wondered why those strange things keep on happening lately?” “WHAT THE FUCK DOES THAT EVEN MEAN?!” Selena yelled. Selena’s mother rolls her eyes again and then hands her backpack.  “The strange occurrences, hun. Remember last week you made something move without touching it? Well, I know I should’ve told you sooner, but you’re a witch. A very late bloomer to be sure, but you’re most definitely a witch.” Selena looks at her mother as if she’s grown three heads and is foaming at the mouth, but then she recalls the incident in question and is suddenly conflicted. Did she make that happen or was that just her mind playing tricks on her? “Mom what you’re saying is completely fucking nuts! I may be a transgenic, but I’m no witch! I mean, come on. Witches don’t exist for Christ’s sake!” Her mother smiles and then suddenly grabs what looks like a long wooden stick from her pocket. She mutters the phrase Expecto Patronum before a beam of blue incandescent light shoots from the stick and forms what looks like a large bear. The light bear roars and then walks around the room for a bit before disappearing completely. Selena stands there utterly stunned by what she has just witnessed. She then looks at her mother in awe. “Wha—what was that?” Selena whispered. Her mother pockets her stick and then smiles at Selena with a certain twinkle in her eye that is making Selena feel uneasy.  “That my dear, was a Patronus charm. One of the most powerful charms known to witch and wizard kind.” Selena continues to stare at her mother, still stunned by what she has just witnessed. “Holy shit, so yo---you’re a freaking witch?!” Her mother chuckles at this and nods.  “Indeed, I am sweetie. Born and bred. Now I of course am not a special one like you with you being also transgenic and all, but I am indeed a witch.” “Why didn’t you tell me about this sooner?” Selena asked in an accusatory tone. Her mother briefly considers her answer before she replies, “Because it wasn’t the right time. That and I was waiting for you to show the signs. I was going to tell you after you got back from spending time Cindy and Jess, but then ‘Eyes Only’ did that cable hack so I had to act fast and find your hideout. It’s a good thing I know a powerful location spell too.” “Okay---but you still haven’t explained why you’ve given me this necklace that I assume will aid me in going back in time, and don’t give me that ‘follow your destiny’ crap. I want to know the truth, mom!” Selena ordered her mother in a stern tone befitting a true solider.

Her mother’s shoulders slump at this and she sighs.  “All that I am allowed to tell you right now is that you are to use that Time Turner to go to a predetermined time period and place. When you successfully get to the predetermined time period and place you must find a woman named Isabella Girardot.  From there on out you are on your own honey bun.” Her mother replied. ”Well that’s just great! Smashing!” Selena grumbled angrily to herself. Her mother frowns at her. She wishes there was another way, but alas, life has a way of biting one in the ass sometimes.  “Wait, what about the others? I’ve already told them that I would meet them at the safe house. They’re going to wonder why I am not there and assume the worst,” Selena intoned almost frantically and she starts to pace back and forth.  “You let me take care of that,” her mother intoned, “I will contact them and let them know that you’re safe.” “What are you going to tell them? That you’re a freaking witch and that you’ve sent me back in time to God knows where? They’re not going to buy that mom. They are going to think that you work for Lydecker and then they’ll kill you!” Selena replied as she continues to pace back and forth. “Don’t worry sweetie, I can take of myself.” Her mother replied. Selena laughs at this causing her mother to scowl in return. “Against a bunch of X5’s. Okay, mom. I believe you,” Selena chuckles. Her mother merely scoffs at this.  “There are spells that can kill one in an instant and others that can completely make one do one’s bidding. Don’t underestimate me, hun. I’ve been protecting you for years. Why do you think we’ve moved so many times in eleven years?” She replied in a serious tone. Selena looks at her mother in shock once again, this time she is unable to reply. What can she say at this point? She knows nothing about magic. Maybe her adoptive mother is more powerful than she lets on. “I---well---I---what do I do now?” Selena replied in a hesitant tone. Her mother smiles and then gently grabs Selena’s hands with her own.  “You put that Time tuner around your neck and then turn it three times towards the left and four times toward the right. That will get you to where you need to go,” her mother replied confidently. “I---er---will I ever get to come back? To this time, I mean?” Selena replied, still unsure of this hair-brained scheme. Her mother’s positive demeanor suddenly shifts to a sad one. A few tears escape her eyes and Selena knows the answer to her question. “It---It’s for the best Selena. You’re no longer safe in this time with Manticore constantly on your tail. This way, you’ll have a fresh start and besides, this won’t be the last time we see each other. I promise,” Her mother replied tearfully.  “Wait, what—” Selena doesn’t have a chance to finish when their conversation is interrupted by voices outside.  Her mother looks at the door in utter terror and then proceeds to grab the long stick out her pocket as if she’s readying herself for an attack.  “Fuck, they found us! I thought we’d have more time.” Her mother hissed. “Shit, manticore’s tracked you. I knew it was a bad idea for you to come here!” Selena replied. “No, no, no, it’s not them. Believe me, I know,” her mother replied in a hushed tone. “Wait, then who---” “It doesn’t matter about who right now, Selena. Now you get a move on before they find us in here,” Her mother hissed. “But mother, I---” “Get your ass in gear. Now!” Her mother whispered before giving her a brief hug. Selena returns the hug for a brief moment before putting her backpack in place and then puts the necklace around her neck.  She looks at her mother one last time and whispers a quick, “I love you”, which her mother reciprocates with tears streaming down her face.

“Go on now, hun. Just like I told you now,” Her mother whispered. Selena nods and proceeds to follow her instructions. “Alright, three moves towards the left and four toward the right,” Selena said shakily.  As soon as she makes the last turn towards the right the room suddenly begins to change and there is a giant whoosh of light. A smash of noise. And time stops. And then it turns over, thinks a bit, and begins spooling backward, slows at first ... And then it speeds up.  Time seems to be meaningless as she is swept backward through time. She feels as if she’s floating, and this makes her feel nauseous. Her stomach’s in knots and she’s on the verge on vomiting when she hears what sounds like the ocean and before she can figure out what’s going on her body feels like she’s free falling. Selena panics at this but before she can find a way to regain her bearings her body is slammed onto the ground with such a force to the point where it knocks her out cold. A loud boom emanates through the air like akin to a sonic boom. The girl enters the atmosphere like an angel falling down from heaven. The air is crackling with an energy that seems to have awoken an ancient magic that has not been felt in centuries. It’s as if the strange girls sudden arrival has awoken a sleeping giant and, Merlin help those who try to stand in her way. For she is a Dark Angel. An unstoppable force of both darkness and the light. End Chapter
