michael and jeremy absolutely love summer. and, one thing they love is celebrating the fourth of july. they always have a little party together, with snacks, activities, and a barbeque. it's usually just them and their parents. they just live a few houses down from each other, but, of course, michael misses his best friend (he saw him yesterday, and was on facetime all night). he hugs him from behind.
“ah!- mikeyyy, you scared me,” jeremy smiles, turning around in his arms, “hi.” they embrace in a soft kiss. “hey.” michael responds. “ready to go?” he asks, nuzzling his face into his neck, provoking a giggle from jeremy. “yeah.” jeremy looks at his father, informing him that he and michael are heading to the store.
“remember a few years back when our neighbor blew a giant pothole into the street because of a firework?” michael laughs. “like, where the fuck did he even get a firework that powerful?” they laugh as they reminisce on past years. one year, their neighbor even blew off his garage door. he's pretty chaotic, to say the least.
“yeah.. im glad he doesn't have any animals. they'd be scared shitless.” jeremy jokes. they laugh the entire walk there, just talking about all sorts of other things. the moment they step into the firework stand, jeremy sees a firework he instantly wants to get.
“baby, that's $50..” michael sighs. “your dad only gave
us $50 to spend, and im sure as hell not using my money.” michael has a fairly stable source of money, since he actually has a job. although, he gets paid minimum wage, so $50 is a lot for him to lose.
“well.. why don't we use my dad's $50 for the firework, and we can just buy some small stuff with our money?” he suggests. michael sighs as he walks away with the firework in his hand. “this better have been worth it. but we're telling your dad it was $30, at most.”

“you boys ready?” jeremys father asks as they approach the house from their shopping. “man,” michael begins, “im just here for the food…” he looks down at his hand, intertwined with jeremys. “...and my pookie bear.”
“shut the hell up.” right after jeremy says that, they both burst into a fit of laughter.
“wanna go hang out on the roof?” michael suggests.“hell yeah!” they run upstairs, climbing up the ladder in jeremys attic, and sitting on the roof. this is a much better view for fireworks. they watch the pretty fireworks, smiling and cuddling on the roof.
“i love you, mike.” jeremy whispers.“i love you, too, jer. that was a really good firework choice. definitely worth $50.”
jeremys father overhears their conversation. ”that one single firework was your whole budget??”
