Work Text
'The rain from outside seemed to be louder than usual' Blindy thought, looking outside from his glass-framed door. Something odd had been happening in the void–making the portals malfunction and work in a way they shouldn't be working in.After 60 days straight of doing everything he could to fix the portals, however, Blindy began to notice his work fogging up the clarity of his mind. In turn, he was convinced by a certain bandaged rabbit to take a small break. The giggle of a familiar voice made Blindy's ear twitch–the limb flicking over to the direction of the sound. He twisted his head over to his partner, Cameron, who–from what he was hearing–seemed busy messaging someone on her phone. At first, Blindy wanted just to roll his nonexistent eyes and shrug it off–thinking his partner was merely laughing at one of those "internet" jokes that Boxers would send regularlyHowever, Cameron's giggling seemed to be growing the more time she spent looking at her phone–along with the familiar 'ding!' sound repeating over and over. Was she messaging someone? Who was she messaging? What was she even messaging about?Blindy's curious thoughts were suddenly cut off by another 'ding!' making him sigh out of irritation."Cameron." He spoke, his voice breaking the calming silence that was overshadowed by the rain. The sound of Blindy's voice immediately alarmed the latter, causing the other to flinch from her seat slightly. Cameron brought her phone down and looked at her partner with a seemingly unfazed look."Yes sir–er, Blindy?" She responded, internally impatient to go back to texting her friend–or, well, girlfriend...?"Who is it that you're messaging?" Blindy asked, suspicious.Cameron's eyes slightly widened from his question, but she answered regardless. "No one–! really, just... um, an acquaintance." Cameron answered, not wanting to give too many details when her partner had not asked her to specify yet.Blindy raised a brow that creased through his red blindfold, noticing the slight hesitance from Cameron. "I can hear the raise of your heartbeat–do not try lying to me, Cameron." He commented, making his partner shrink a bit from his words.Cameron straightened herself, thinking she could fake confidence so that Blindy would buy her half-lie more. "I was just messaging an unimportant acquaintance, nothing more, nothing less," she said monotonously.Again, Blindy could recognize a slight irregular shift in her tone of voice–forced monotony. He walked closer to Cameron, his hearing getting more and more advanced and precise; being capable of picking up even the slightest changes in her breathing."I've known you for nearly a decade, Cameron. Your tone of voice won't fool me–not when I can hear your heart beating with such irregularity even in idle motion." Blindy pointed out once more.Cameron sat still in silence after that, trying to come up with another way of being subtle with her partner. Blindy, on the other hand, crossed his arms and was tapping his fingers with impatience."Cameron, I won't hesitate to take your device away and break it–" "IT WAS A FRIEND!" Cameron interrupted, her voice raising in volume and intensity from the threat. Blindy stood still, even more, intrigued–and suspicious–by the way Cameron was acting to his questions.Getting nothing but deafening silence from Blindy, Cameron took it as a sign to continue. "I... I made a friend uhm... A few weeks ago." She started, calming down from her exclamation a few seconds ago.
"We met at a nearby uh, entertainment center, got ice cream together, and, uh... traded numbers together.."A visible blush was apparent on Cameron's cheeks after processing what she had said; she almost described her and her friend's first meeting as a date..! Cameron was internally sighing with relief that Blindy couldn't see her slightly flushed face."...What's their name," Blindy asked, his voice–while neutral–intimidated much of Cameron to keep her from lying any further to him."K..Ki–Kaina..?" Cameron answered, her voice fading a bit at the end from fear. She decided to take one last shot at hiding her friend's name, not wanting her friend to be in the way of her partner's wrath.Blindy let out a disappointing sigh, disappointed in his partner–who he had known for almost 10 years. He thought Cameron knew better than to lie to her partner; said partner being able to hear even the faintest of sounds."Give me your device." He demanded calmly, causing Cameron to flinch away and look at him with an expression of disbelief."I... Why–" "You know better than to lie to me, Cameron." Blindy spoke, standing before her near the sofa, his hand out to her direction for her to give him her device. However, Cameron closed in on herself, slightly shifting her body away from her partner. Hearing the shuffling and her breathing get a bit farther away from him, Blindy decided to sit down on the sofa with her, making the gap between them a bit shorter."Cameron, for all we know, your new acquaintance could potentially be a threat," Blindy warned, trying to get Cameron to see his side.Cameron held a breath, hesitant, "You.. don't know that–" "Cam." Blindy snapped, interrupting her."I only want what's best for us, to survive," He continued. For extra measure, Blindy guided his calloused, cold hands on the top of Cameron's. He leaned a bit closer to her, "We only have each other, Cameron, for ten years it's been just us.." The closer Blindy leaned into Cameron's space, the more she felt her assurance crumble from the indomitable pressure coming from her partner."Do you think this new friend of yours, who you've only known for a few weeks and don't truly know the intentions of–is more important than us..?" He asked, his voice soft and caring as he faced Cameron's direction in a seemingly gentle, yet hurt way.Hearing her partner seem so vulnerable and hurt stung Cameron's heart, conflict surging through her head as she glanced between her phone and her partner."I.." "Cameron." Blindy broke once more, detecting hesitance in his partner. One of his hands that lay atop of Cameron's moved towards cupping her cheek, a touch far more intimate than most other touches she'd received from him. The feeling of Blindy's rough hands gently caressing her dirtied yet soft cheek made her melt internally."It's either them... or us–" "I'll– I'll cut them off.." Cameron breathed, her words shaky as her body felt overwhelmingly hot.Blindy gave a small smile, one that simply conveyed his satisfaction and approval.
"A wise choice, Cameron."
