“Oh Luna my darling please give it a rest.” Eloise groaned, their child sobbing heavily upon her chest as she paced the bedroom. The brunette's hands work warm circles upon the child’s back. Bending and swaying every step. Dressing gown halfway up her arms.“Maybe we should try swaddling again.” Cressida suggested watching her wife struggle. Lunet had developed an aversion to sleeping; it seems her rose cheek plush against Eloise’s chest as her little chest quaked with a sulk. “We’ve done the swaddling. She’s been swaddled four times. She does not wish to be swaddled!” Eloise yells with a whispering voice. Her eyebrows knitted as her wife rose her hands in defence.“Perhaps it is you, that needs swaddling.” The blonde mumbled. They were both as tired as the other, thick bruised skin hung beneath their eyes. Neither could tell you the last time they’d taken a moment to brush their hair or take in any form of self care. Eloise vaguely remembers taking a bath that Lunet inevitably ended up in also, as Cressida had commitments outside the house and their daughter refused to be held by anyone but themselves for Violet. The brunette refused to impose upon her mother further. Her wife queried it was to prove a point of independence, Eloise did always have a terrible habit of refusing failure or asking for help. Cressida’s own mother couldn’t care less about the birth of her first grandchild. “I’m sorry—-“ Eloise sighed walking toward the bed, narrowly avoiding the collection of toys and clothes that had begun to litter the floor of their chambers. “I’m sorry my love.” The brunette whispered, leaning down to kiss her wife’s face. First her temple then her cheek, the toddler fussing between them the entire time. “Give her to me.” Cressida suggests opening her arms, accepting the child greedily. Lifting her to her shoulder. “Lou look at me.” The blonde smiled gently coaxing her wife’s gaze to lift from the floor. Her sunken face turned the blonde's mind sour, her beautiful eyes were cloudy, wrapped in unshed tears and exhaustion. The blonde's free hand rose to rub gently at Eloise’s cheek, the other woman sinking freely into the touch. “We’ll figure it out.” Cressida’s promise, drawing her wife forward for a brief kiss. “Mmm” Eloise mumbled, her forehead falling to rest upon her wife’s as they simply swayed together, the cries of their child the music to their nights. “I just hate that we cannot soothe her, I feel utterly useless.” Stepping back and taking a seat beside the blonde. Cressida free hand falling to rub her back.“I know Dove, but this is how babies communicate.” She shrugged, lifting the child to eye level. “We just have to figure out what she’s saying, isn’t that right little moon?” Cressida nodded, scrunching her nose at the child. Lunet’s snotty nose and rouge eyes suddenly lightened, gleaming as she pulled back in a toothless grin. “Oh now she smiles.” Eloise rolled her eyes and reached across to tickle the child gently, “it’s okay sweetheart, I always smile for mummy too.” The brunette grinned, turning to rest her head upon the blonde's shoulder. Kissing the exposed flesh lightly. “Now Miss Moon, what’s all the fuss?” Cressida asked , cocking her brow at the infant who was now far too enticed by the necklace that hung from her mother’s neck pulling at the chain and stuffing it in her mouth happily. “Luna, that is so unsanitary.” The blonde scoffed, attempting to pry the necklace back. The small symbol of a swan poked out from the child’s lips, till she wailed in protest and her mother granted her the object back. The brunette casting an eye upon the scene, squinting into the dim light. “I think she’s— “ Eloise suddenly shot up from her seat. Tugging her dressing gown on correctly and racing towards the door.“Well where are you going?” Cressida called out after her. Herself and Lunet turned to the woman’s fleeting form.“I’ll be right back, don’t move!” Eloise called back, presumably half way down the hall. “Your mama is slightly insane.” Cressida spoke, her voice heightened and teasing as she rocked the child in the air slowly back then quickly down as though a game. “But we love her dearly, which is why we should let her sleep.” Cressid nodded, Lunet’s tiny forehead falling to rest against her own, the child’s free hand clutching at the flesh of her cheek, tapping it every so often. The blonde's lashes fluttered with every incoming hit. That is how Eloise found them, their noses rubbed together as Cressida slowly hummed to their daughter. The child mumbled her own discourse back that neither mothers were privy to understand, yet embraced all the same.“Oh really?” Eloise grinned, poking the infant's cheek as she passed, “well that is a very interesting story, little moon.” The brunette replied, continuing the ‘conversation’ with her daughter. Cressida shifts the babe to face the other woman.Lunet simply blew raspberries in response, Cressida giggling and lovingly gazing upon her two most prized possessions. “What do you have there?” The blonde asked nudging her wife to reveal the bowl in her hands.“Ice cream.” Eloise stated as if an obvious fact, swirling the spoon around to collect the cold concoction.“You left to get ice cream? Dove I know we skipped out on dinner however I don’t think ice cream is a fine substitute.” “Oh hush Dia, it’s not for me.” Eloise smirked, raising the spoon toward their child. Watching as the toddler eagerly accepted the soothing treat. Her soft snuggles of pain suddenly sedated. Cressida furrowing her brow in shock.“How— how did you…”“She’s teething.” Eloise grinned, ecstatic that her theory had been correct. Their daughter happily sucks upon the spoon which she has pried from her mother’s hand. “Gods you’re sensational.” Cressida smiled, leaning to kiss the brunette's cheek, biting lightly at her jaw, “you didn’t happen to bring enough for everyone did you?” She queried. Her wife vibrant as she excitedly lifted a second spoon from within the confines of her dressing gown. “See this—- this is why I married you.” Cressida stated allowing the other woman to feed her a spoonful of ice cream. “Oh that’s the reason is it? I have been wondering.” Eloise quipped, a sharp poke to the ribs from her wife as she lent to refuel their child’s spoon. Lunet sleepily sucking upon the spoon, turning towards her mother’s chest a sharp yawn wrecking her body. “It seems we have a sleepy moon upon our hands.” Eloise smiled, her finger brushing gently against Lunet’s cheek. “Finally.” Cressida mumbled slightly begrudgingly as the memory of their own exhaustion seeped in. Eloise offering her yet another scoop of ice cream. “Urhh that tastes amazing.” The blonde mused.“Oh? Perhaps I should try it.” Eloise grinned, leaning forward to capture her wife’s cool lips. Humming contently against her touch. “You’re right, it tastes amazing.” The brunette teased, shoving a spoonful into her own mouth. Blocking her wife from chasing her mouth further. Cressida gasped in faux upset, the weight of their child suddenly heavier within her arms as the babe slept. The blonde stood gently easing the child into her crib, kissing her little face, before turning to her wife. Eloise was already buried deep beneath the covers as she turned.Cressida lifted an accusatory hand towards the other woman, “there better be icecream left in there, or else you’re being sent out for me.” The blonde's waist hit the edge of the bed as she began assent, crawling up the length of her wife’s body. “Last bit?” Eloise offered lifting the spoon between them. Tilting it to her wife’s awaiting mouth, her lips quickly followed. Not a simple drop wasted between them as their bodies pressed flush against the soft silk sheets. Their kiss was short -lived however as the opportunity to rest suddenly hit them. The bowl quickly discarded the bedside table. Eloise lifting the duvet, inviting the blonde to join her beneath.Cressida’s body quick to mould within her space, melting between the cracks of Eloise’s presence. Her wife’s arms a haven away from the last few days, being parents took a toll neither could have prepared for. However they’d never change a thing about it. Eloise held her wife close upon her chest working her fingers against the nest of blonde locks as Cressida’s own fingers traced patterns upon her arm. The two followed their daughter into much needed sleep.
