Awsten hated the situation he was in right now. He had successfully managed to sneak around the corner, and he had his knife ready with Geoff under it until suddenly Geoff said, “Go ahead, kill me. I want this.”Awsten had never considered himself to be a sensitive man, given his job it was obvious he wasn’t the exact type to spare someone’s feelings or life for that matter. But when geoff told him he actually wanted to die, it tugged at something deep inside him. Geoff was pretty, he had icy blue eyes and a nice body. In fact, if this wasn’t his job, awsten probably would’ve wanted to take him on a date.“Wait, what?”, awsten spoke, dumbfounded.Geoff sighed, pushing his neck onto awsten’s knife just to feel the soft pinch of the blade. “I want to die.” Geoff felt the tears well up and soon enough, awsten’s eyes were welling up with tears at this point too.Awsten carefully held the knife in place, just in case this was just an act in an attempt to do some reverse psychology and give Geoff a chance to escape. He felt his phone buzz in his back pocket, probably otto asking him if he had killed Geoff yet. Awsten wasn’t done asking questions, however. “Why do you wanna die?”“Well, I’m a faggot twink and all I do is disappoint people.” Geoff choked on his words at the last part, feeling a single tear fall onto awsten’s hand.Awsten couldn’t believe it. He didn’t want to have to report back to Otto just to tell him he couldn’t finish out the one thing they had been planning for weeks. Otto was a very strategic planner, and when he knew what he wanted to do, it was always best to just follow along to avoid any confusion. Awsten just stood there not knowing what to say. I mean, sure, he liked his job, he liked the thrill, but it seemed Geoff had already been in a bad mental state. See, the majority of the victims of Otto and Awsten had been people that should’ve seen it coming; rapists were Otto's favorite. Awsten couldn’t possibly think of why Otto would want Awsten to kill Geoff of all people. Had there been a miscommunication? Otto had scoped out the main places where Geoff liked to hang out. Suddenly it made sense as to why Otto had sent Awsten Geoff’s location as being a random alleyway. Awsten had a good kill streak, and Geoff would’ve been his fifth successful kill this month if Geoff hadn’t seemed so damaged already. Awsten yearned to know why Geoff wanted to die so much. Sure, Awsten’s job planted him out to be a stone cold killer, but he still had a heart. A big one. Awsten was such a sweetie before Otto had come to him with his first assignment. After a solid three minutes of silence besides the shaky breaths of Geoff from crying under the point of Awsten’s blade, Awsten decided to speak up. “Hey, hey, buddy, it’s okay, shh…shh…” Awsten gently cupped Geoff's face, rubbing a thumb over Geoff's tears to wipe them off. He hated this. He knew Otto would be disappointed if Otto didn’t get a response on if he had finished his assignment by the end of the night.Awsten spoke up again after staring into Geoff's big wet eyes for another three minutes. “You wanna tell me what’s wrong? I won’t kill you, bud. There must’ve just been a miscommunication.”Geoff opened his mouth and continued to speak with shaky breaths. “I-I’m j-just a d-disappointment. I-I’m a f-fag-got tw-twink.” Geoff barely managed to get a full sentence out in between shaky breaths and deep inhales. Awsten’s heart continued to melt at Geoff's words. He quickly removed his knife from under Geoff's chin and put it back in his pocket. He decided to call Otto to let him know that he was unable to complete the assignment. At least if he wasn’t able to complete the assignment, Otto would kill him. Which would be fine, as long as he was able to spare this boy’s life.Awsten took out his phone and stepped away, turning around and walking away from Geoff.Awsten called Otto's number after seeing that he had 10 missed calls from Otto. Awsten was quick with a blade, and that’s why he was Otto's favorite. Awsten definitely would have been done by now, especially since he’s already been in this alleyway for the past 10 minutes. When Otto answered, Awsten began. “H-hey boss.”“Why the FUCK didn’t you answer my calls? I called you ten fucking times and you didn’t answer any time. Do you even take this shit seriously anymore? What’s gotten into you?”Awsten bit his lip. “Hey, Otto, I seriously can’t do this. This kid is like, not in a good mental state. He called himself the f word and the t word.” Awsten had an issue with saying those words out loud because Awsten’s sexuality was also fluid and didn’t really label it. He just liked whoever he liked. He looked back at Geoff, who had now sunk to the cold ground, his knees to his chest and his head buried in his arms as he let out soft whimpers.“Okay? What does that have to do with you killing him at all?” Awsten could hear the annoyance in Otto's voice at his lack of ability to just kill the boy that was still letting out soft cries.Awsten sighed, pinching the bridge of his nose. “Otto, I seriously can’t do it, he’s in a fragile state right now. I understand if you want t-”“Whatever, Awsten. Whatever! Just know this knocks you down a level of getting the most out of me,” Otto basically screams into the phone. “Oh, and don’t bother coming by tonight.”Awsten looked over at Geoff in desperation. “Fine, Otto. I’m sorry. I wasn’t expecting this to happen either but you would do the same if you were in my situation.” Lies. There was a reason Otto was the leader of the gang. Otto didn’t help to spare people especially when he had a thing going on. Awsten recalled the time that Otto had been so hungry to kill someone he did it the very next day after planning. Otto hung up the phone on Awsten before Awsten even had a chance to say bye. After shoving his phone back in his pocket, he walked over to where Geoff was still sitting, against the cold brick of the building they were next to.“Hey bud,” Awsten said as he knelt down next to Geoff, rubbing a hand on his back. “It’s okay, I’m not killing you.”“O-o-okay. Th-thank y-you.” Geoff continued to let out soft cries as awsten continued to rub circles on his back. Finally, Awsten decided to break the deafening silence. “So, I know you called yourself the f and t word, but why would you say that about yourself?” The real reason Awsten didn’t want to kill Geoff was because he saw a little bit of himself in Geoff. He remembered his days in high school back when he would get pushed around and called names all day. That’s part of why he felt the need to protect the boy now.Geoff sighed, wiping the last of his tears on his hands and wiping his hands on his jeans before continuing, “I just hate my life, I hate who I am, no one supports me. I can’t go home because that’s where the violence is. I don’t have any friends besides my one friend, Jawn, and even then, I don’t like bothering him with my problems. I try to be open about who I am but people just keep breaking me down until I’m nothing.”As Geoff spoke, letting his feelings pour out, Awsten had a longer chance to stare at him. Awsten could stare into his icy blue eyes all day. Awsten couldn’t help but feel like he made the right decision. Geoff was a few inches taller than him and looked to be maybe 3 years older than Awsten. Awsten was also the type to fall in love quickly, and at this point, the man knew he was in trouble.

----- CHAPTER BREAK -----

After helping Geoff up, Awsten began to ask more questions. “Why were you in this creepy ass alleyway anyway?”Geoff shrugged. He had definitely calmed down for the most part and Awsten was relieved. “Dunno. Needed an escape, didn’t feel like going home. You know how it is.”Suddenly Geoff realized he hadn’t introduced himself to the man that had consoled him and comforted him when he needed it. “Oh, I’m Geoff by the way.”Awsten giggled. He knew the boy’s name, it was Awsten that hadn’t introduced himself to Geoff yet. “I know. I was planning on killing you until I could see the visible distress on your face. My boss had been planning this for a while, but I couldn’t go through with it after you told me you wanted this. I have no idea why he picked you of all people anyway. Normally we only go after bad people, not depressed boys. Sorry.”Geoff couldn’t help but smile too. “Okay, that’s great but you never told me your name.”“Oh, shit, sorry. Name’s Awsten.”There was an awkward silence. “Um, well, anyway, thanks for like, comforting me after that shit. I needed it. And thanks for not killing me. I do want to die, but it’s nice to know you at least wanted to spare me,” Geoff spoke.Awsten knew what he was planning on doing next would secure his spot on Otto's list and probably get him fired. “So um, it’s super late, I actually don’t live too far from here. How about you just, like, crash at my place and then you can go home in the morning? I don’t know where you live and I don't just want to leave you here to die.” Awsten knew the man looked well old enough to take care of himself or at least walk himself home, he just wasn’t ready to say bye yet.“Uh, sure. That would be nice.” To be completely honest, Geoff didn’t know why he was deciding to trust Awsten so much right now after he would’ve just as easily murdered him if he had said the wrong thing. Something about Awsten was just so…enticing. Compelling. Geoff had noticed Awsten’s sweet scent of a soft, warm citrus that made Geoff want to melt into him. He needed to feel him.Awsten began, “Okay, we can just go now, are you okay? Everything happened so fast I haven’t even noticed if anything was physically wrong with you.”Geoff giggled. “Yeah, we can go now. I was just sitting in this alleyway having some time to myself.” The cold night wind blew against them and Awsten knew what he was going to do next. Carefully, he took off his jacket and wrapped it around Geoff’s shoulders, and Awsten kept his arm around Geoff as they walked to Awsten’s apartment. Awsten would definitely need to tell his friend Travis about this. After they had been walking for about a block, they turned down another street until they stood in front of a large building. Awsten pushed open the door, and held it open for Geoff. They walked up the stairs, Geoff following closely behind. Awsten put the key in the lock and opened the door. As Awsten turned on the light, Geoff took in his surroundings. Awsten didn’t consider himself rich, but he knew he was well off, and his apartment showed it. He had several art pieces hanging up (He would tell Geoff about this later, but all of those were drawn by him. He wanted to keep the illusion up) and he had other things about his apartment that made Geoff wonder why he would even want to take him in for the night anyway even if he was old enough to take care of himself.“So, since it’s…10:24, we can go to bed now, unless you’re not sleepy. I don’t mind either way. I don’t go into work until later tomorrow night anyway. You might want to sleep though, after the night you’ve had,” Awsten said to Geoff. To be honest, Geoff was not tired. Especially not after their encounter in the alleyway.Geoff began, “Um, actually I’m not really that tired.” Awsten would be lying if he said that that wasn’t the response he wanted to hear. “Great! We can hang out here for a little bit until you’re tired. You can have the couch when you’re ready.” Geoff didn’t know how to tell Awsten he didn’t like sleeping alone. He would stay up with him, and then he’d break the news. Geoff actually found Awsten to be attractive. The smaller man had vibrant red hair and two different colored eyes. He also smelled really good. He didn’t even care that Awsten had tried to murder him just moments before. Finally Geoff decided it needed to be asked. “So…why do you kill people?”Awsten gave a nervous chuckle as he made them both some tea and set a cup down in front of Geoff as he sat down at the kitchen island. “Well, it started after I had graduated. I’m 21, by the way…Anyway, we– me and Otto, the guy you heard me talking to in the alley– only normally kill bad people. I honestly don’t know why Otto would send me to kill you, you’re, like, the least threatening person I’ve ever met.” Geoff had to smile at that. It was insane that Geoff was just okay with following this man home and into his apartment where he could easily try to kill him again. After talking about random stuff for the next thirty minutes until Geoff had decided he might as well try to sleep tonight, he spoke up, “Oh, by the way…I don’t do well sleeping alone…nightmares…”Awsten smiled. “It’s okay, I had a feeling you would say that. We can sleep in my bed. It’s big enough to where we won’t be practically on top of each other.” Geoff flushed at the thought of Awsten on top of him. Suddenly, Awsten grabbed Geoff’s hand and took him into his room, shutting the door behind them. “Are you okay sleeping in that? I have clothes if y–”“It’s fine, I’m bigger than you, don’t worry about it,” Geoff replied. Awsten sat down on his bed as he took off his shoes, Geoff following. In a matter of minutes both of them were laying on Awsten’s bed, staring at the ceiling.“So…who was your first, like, victim?”Awsten recalled the first person he had killed. Otto had called him and told him that there was a guy that was going around sending texts to minors. Awsten had a younger sister, Gracie, so when he heard that he had no issue in finding the man and killing him. He remember the man actually came into the bar he worked at and had gotten drunk off his ass and started yelling. Awsten had led the man out back, and pulled a knife on him and stabbed him 6 times before the man fell into a lifeless heap, blood spilling out. Awsten enjoyed what he did.“This guy, he was talking to minors. He came into the bar that I work at one night and tried to start shit with other people in the bar. I led him out back and stabbed him 6 times. Otto had told me he also had cp on his phone, and sure enough I was able to unlock it and find all of it.Geoff smiled at the thought of Awsten defending people. He knew, logically, murder was wrong, but he also knew that shitty people existed. He had been surrounded by shitty people his entire life. After a few more questions, Geoff had fallen asleep next to Awsten. Awsten pulled out his phone and texted his best friend.Awsten: dudeAwsten: omgAwsten’s phone lit up with a text from his closest friend.Travis: whatTravis: why are you up so lateAwsten: dude, the guy that otto sent me to kill is hot and is laying in my bed with me rnTravis: no wayTravis: why didn’t you just kill him?Awsten: he was in clear distress and I’m a serial killer, not a monsterTravis: we need to hang out tomorrow so you can tell me all about itAwsten: come to the bar tomorrow night, I’ll explain everythingAnd with that, Awsten shut off his phone and closed his eyes. He was in deep. What he didn’t know was that Geoff was also in deep.
