In the warm kitchen of Kensington Palace, sat the young, heavily pregnant, Princess of Wales.
She sighed. Yesterday, she had yet another fainting spell, and her husband, Charles, had made her stay inside the palace while he played polo, saying it was for her safety.
Diana believed him. It wasn’t like she’d ever have to worry about him cheating again.
Just a week ago, Charles had offered to form a polycule with his former mistress, Camilla.
To his surprise, Diana had agreed, albeit, reluctantly.
But she had , for the sake of her unborn child who would be born very soon, in less than 3 months in fact.
Plus, she had to admit that she did, indeed, find Camilla to be quite attractive.
Diana sighed. She loved her husband, she really did, but he could be so overprotective at times.
Diana sighed again. She hated being cooped up, she hated not being able to do thing, to not be able to interact with the public, she loved meeting new people after all, she thought to herself, pacing back and forth.
“A little restless, are we?” said a voice behind her.
Diana jumped, turning around to see Camilla. A blush started to warm the young princess’s face.
“Umm…” Diana started “ohh…hi! Just… you know… umm…e-exercising…haha… you know… he… umm… well, I… errr… want what’s best for the baby! Yeah!” Diana finished, chuckling awkwardly, face as red as a tomato.
Camilla chuckled at Diana’s attempt at talking.
“Did you realize that you are blushing dear?“ She asked, amused. Diana’s blush only deepened.
“Umm… yes… I did…” Diana said, still a flustered mess, just like she had been when she first met Charles.
When she had a crush on him…
Oh
Oh no…
Sure, she guessed it was fine now that they were practically a throuple… but….
Diana’s thoughts were cut off by the sound of her stomach rumbling.
“Hungry, buttercup?” asked Camilla.
“B-buttercup?” Diana asked, blushing.
“It suits you.” she said simply.
Diana’s stomach rumbled again.
“Come on buttercup. Let’s have some nachos.”
The two women sat at the table, the huge bowl of nachos in the middle of the table.
“So, buttercup ,” Camilla started, smirking at the younger woman’s blushing. “Charles suggested I teach you how to play poker.”
Diana blushed even harder at the mention of her husband.
“Oh…umm… ok…” Diana said, looking down at her feet, and brushing her bangs to cover her eyes, in a shy attempt to hide herself.
After hours of playing, Diana lay asleep on one of the many palace couches, her head resting on Camilla’s lap, as the older woman stroked her blonde hair.
Charles walked in, smiling at his wives interacting. He went over to her, kissing her lips.
“How was your day, dear?” he asked, wrapping an arm around her shoulder.
Camilla smiled, still stroking Diana’s hair, smiling at both Charles and Diana.
“It was pretty great.” she says, still holding Diana in her lap. The princess groaned, opening her wide blue eyes.
“Hi Charles” she said, smiling groggily up at her handsome husband. Camilla laughed.
“Have a good nap, buttercup?” she asked, causing Diana to once again blush. Charles smiled at this.
“Buttercup?” he asked, grinning at his younger wife’s new nickname.
“It suits her, doesn’t it?” she said, smiling.
Charles nodded, smiling.
“It sure does. Come on buttercup, it’s getting late. Let’s have some cupcakes before bed.”
“Three cupcakes coming up!” said the servant, sliding a plate to all three of the newly made throuple.
Diana’s eyes lit up at the sight of her cupcake, the pink icing irresistible to the young princess. She ended up eating all of it in at least nine seconds. Camilla chuckled.
“You have some on your nose, buttercup” she teased, leaning in and wiping it off of Diana’s nose, causing Diana to get a slight blush.
Then, perhaps without thinking, she leaned in and kissed Diana on the tip of her nose.
Diana’s face turned completely red, not caring that the baby inside her was kicking.
“Oh god , what’s happening to me?“ Diana muttered.
Later that night, all three laid in bed, Diana sandwiched between them. Charles had to say, he was quite satisfied with their first day as a throuple, even though he was gone for most of it. He’d never felt more loved, and he bet it was the same for Diana and Camilla.
Perhaps this wouldn’t be too bad after all.
----- CHAPTER BREAK -----
June 2, 1982
“But I wanna helppppppp” Diana whined, pouting. She was now 8 months and 2 weeks pregnant, her baby bump more visible than ever. The palace staff, along with some helpful members of the Royal Family, were decorating for Queen Elizabeth’s coronation anniversary.
“Sorry darling” says Charles, kissing her forehead gently. “But we don’t want you straining yourself, do we?”
Diana pouted but nodded.
“Alright” she said, turning away from him, crossing her arms and pouting.
Charles chuckled at her antics, wrapping his arm around her waist.
“It’s alright dear. You can help next year though.”
Diana hugged him back, still pouting.
“Fine” she said, making a beeline for the kitchen.
Diana sat at the table, fingers drumming boredly against the table. Once again, she couldn’t do anything.
“You know, buttercup, there are some cupcakes that need decorating” said a voice next to her, causing Diana to jump, turning to see Camilla.
“Really?” Diana said, a blush creeping into her cheeks. Camilla chuckled at this.
“Well, buttercup, it won’t be as strainirus as decorating.”
Diana pouted again at this, slightly annoyed.
“But I wanna do something activeeeeeee.” she whined dramatically, burying her face in her arms, huffing. Camilla laughed.
“It’s not going to last forever dear. And it’s worth it in the end.”
Diana smiled slightly, knowing she was thinking of her own two children.
“I know,” Diana said “I just wish people would stop coddling me.”
----- CHAPTER BREAK -----
Charles liked being in a polycule. Both Diana and Camilla were extraordinary women, and he was lucky to have both of them. They got along surprisingly well, not that he was complaining, as he was relieved that it was working out.
That didn’t mean that everything was perfect, of course. Sure, a majority of the Royal Family were supportive, but he knew that they hardly held any power, that belonged to the parliament- most importantly, the Prime Minister.
And unfortunately she wasn’t nearly as supportive as the Queen.
June 20th, 1982
7:45 P.M
“I’ve been feeling weird all day today” Diana says, half sitting-half laying down on the couch. Charles and Camilla exchanged concerned glances, before Charles walked over to Diana, sitting down next to her.
“How have you been feeling weird, my darling?” he asked, stroking Diana’s hair. She whimpered, snuggling close to him.
“My back hurts. And so does my abdomen…”
“Oh, darling, I’m sorry…”
They sat there for a while, until Charles felt something
wet
coming from Diana. Camilla clearly noticed it to, because she yelled, “THE BABY!”
Charles shot her a look of confusion, eyebrows furrowed.
“What?”
“HER WATER BROKE, FRED!” yelled Camilla, using her nickname for him.
Charles' eyes widened, then he leapt up and carried Diana to the car, followed by Camilla. Charles placed Diana in the back, and he jumped into the driver's seat.
13 hours later
“Shouldn’t the baby be delivered by now?” Charles asked, pacing back and forth outside the hospital room. Camilla sighed, gently placing her hand on his shoulder.
“Love, it takes a while for many women. When I had Tom, it took 16 hours. And Andrew didn’t even show his face” she said, remembering how her ex husband didn’t care that much.
“I’m so-“ Charles words were cut off by a doctor running out.
“She birthed safely, your highnesses. It’s a boy.”
Charles let out a sigh of relief that he didn’t know he’d been holding. He took Camillia’s hand and walked into the room.
Diana laid on the hospital bed, looking both proud and exhausted. She was holding a small baby, blonde-brown hair, wrapped in a blue blanket.
“He’s perfect. What should we name him?” Charles said, kissing Diana’s forehead.
“James is a cute na-” Camilla started. Diana’s eyes went dark.
“No! I’m
not
naming him that!” she snapped, tearing brimming in her eyes. Charles looked at Camilla, concerned.
“Diana are you alright?”
“Yeah… I’m fine darling. And sorry for snapping at you… I think William is a great name, don’t you?”
Charles nodded, although he was not convinced.
December 14th, 1982.
“Charles, you and your wives are going to an event with the Prime Minister this evening.” stated Queen Elizabeth. Seeing the look on his face, she added “Me, your father and your aunt will also be there.”
Charles simply nodded, then went to tell his wives.
“But I can’t leave William for all this time!” protested Diana, who was currently breastfeeding the infant. Camilla sat next to her, a blank expression on her face.
“I know darling, but we have to. Plus, the nanny will take care of him.”
Diana frowned, looking upset.
“I know, but he’s my son. I respect the nanny, but I want to bond with him first.”
Charles shook his head.
“Love, it will be fine for one night. We’ll be back by around 11:30 tonight I hope”
Diana sighed, but nodded, bundling up for the cold London snow that was still falling outside.
“Buttercup,” Camilla started “why did you say
yes
when the Queen asked us if we would rather walk to the event?”
Diana laughed.
“It’s not
that
cold out Cam. Plus it’s still light out and it’s good exercise.” Diana said, before half falling-half jumping into a snowbank.
“Diana?” asked Charles, concerned.
No response.
“Diana!” he called again. This time, Diana leapt out of the bank and threw a snowball at him.
“Gottcha!” she squealed, sticking her tongue out.
“Hey!” said Charles, playfully throwing a handful of snow at her. Diana dodged it and it hit Camilla instead, who laughed. Diana threw another snowball at her husband before tackling him into the snow, giggling. They wrestled for a bit until Camilla joined in, their laughs filling the crisp winter air.
“Come on,” said Charles. “We should go”
Thankfully, it was his mother that greeted them, as she looked more amused than annoyed when she saw them covered in snow.
“Ah, you three look like you had fun.” she teased. “But I think you should wipe yourselves off before she sees you.”
Diana tilted her head.
“But Ms. Thatcher likes me! She said so last time.”
Charles sighed. He hadn’t told Diana about her comments, as he knew it would hurt her, but it seemed Diana would find out anyway.
He waited until Camilla and Diana took of their winter wear, then walked into the main hall.
