You adjusted your backpack across your shoulders, accompanying your big brother Taro out the door."Hanako, hurry up!" He called, to which the youngest replied in a shrill yell, "I'm coming!!"You rolled your eyes and chuckled, opening the door and immediately punching the figure you were greeted with. You were shocked, and Taro yelped. Hanako ran behind him, looked at the scene in front of her, and let out an "ooohhh..." sound."Fuck, Ayato!" You hissed, kneeling down to help him up. "You scared me for a minute..."The ravenette massaged his cheek with his hand, sighing in pain, before he gripped your arm with a strength you couldn't fathom. You lifted him up to is feet, and he stood tall over all of you.His deep grey eyes skimmed over Hanako, and stared down Taro for a few seconds longer than necessary before they finally landed on you. His expression visibly softened, and he smiled."My bad, Y/N..." He apologised.Ayato never referred to you as senpai, nor kohai, like he did with your siblings. Taro was a third year and Hanako a first, but you were in the same year level as him so honourifics weren't needed."I just can't wait to see you every day."He must've memorised your address by this point. "Also, I got you something.""Another gift...?" You asked, as Ayato presented a cute necklace with a cat charm on the end of it. "Yeah, I know you love cats." Ayato said with a smile. You thanked him and took the gift, immediately clipping it around your neck. "I love it.""Aw, man. I wish I had a partner like that." Taro grinned, placing a hand on your shoulder."You'll find one." Ayato said dismissively. Then, he grabbed your hand with utmost care, a change from how desperately he held onto your arm when you helped him up. "Could we walk to school together?"You looked at your siblings. Hanako crossed her arms in disapproval, while Taro nodded for you to go ahead. You thought for a second, and then turned back to Ayato. "Sure."His grey eyes sparkled with delight, and he squeezed your hand lovingly. You could tell that being in physical contact with him always did something to him. He'd act nonchalant and cold toward others, and while he did have friends, he always lit up when he was able to touch you. Just being near you made him radiate happiness.Yeah, you certainly did something to him. Both of you made a start, your siblings waiting behind a bit before walking to make sure they didn't run into you both. Well, Taro waited, and also held Hanako back. She was incredibly dependent on both you and Taro, which obviously manifested in hatred for Ayato. You didn't see how she could hate Ayato. Sure, he was a bit unsocial, but he was a regular guy. A really sweet regular guy. While you were walking with your boyfriend in a peaceful silence, hand in hand, more students began to litter the streets once you got closer to the school. Over the road on the path next to yours, was your friend Osano Najimi. The redhead looked over at you for a minute, looking like he wanted to say something, but he instead turned back to converse with his inseparable companion: Raibaru Fumetsu.Could you even call Osano your friend at this point? Ever since you'd both come back to Akademi for your second year, he just... stopped talking to you. No more texts, video calls, plans or before-school conversations. He cut you off completely.Ayato squeezed your hand to grab your attention, "I can see you looking at him."You sighed, "Yeah... I... I guess you could say I miss him. There wasn't even a goodbye." You mourned. "What did I do...?"He cupped your chin and stopped walking, turning your head to look at him. He stared deep into your eyes, his expression calm yet serious. "I doubt you did anything, Y/N. Sometimes people just grow apart. It's a natural part of life, you shouldn't think anything of it."Another sigh left your lips, and you nodded solemnly. "Mmh... Just, how sudden it was... I feel like I did something wrong. I feel like he hates me.""Stop thinking that right now." Ayato ordered sternly, "You could never do anything wrong.""Well, I wouldn't say never..."Ayato kept speaking. "It was his choice to cut you off. And, that's his loss, because obviously he can't see how awesome and amazing and perfect you are. So, don't feel pressured to keep him in your life, just because you've known him since you were kids." He leaned in to press a light kiss to your bottom lip, "Forget about him."You thought for a minute. He was right, why should you feel bad? If you did do something, Osano chose to be childish and give you the silent treatment, rather than working it out. Your smile returned, "You always know what to say to make me feel better, Ayato..."The young man's soft smile returned and he kissed you again. Longer this time, closing his eyes and melting into the soft touch of your lips. You had to push him away, like always, when you needed to breathe again."Look at you, you're such a weirdo, kissing me in public." You chuckled. The most public PDA you'd get in the region - no, in pretty much the entire country - was holding hands while walking. Though, Ayato didn't seem to care about public opinion."They're just jealous they don't have a cute girl to please, and I do." He smirked.Oh, it made you weak in the knees when he smirked like that. He could pull off the devious look so well. Who would've thought, that such a nice guy could look so wicked?"Stop, you praise me too much." You said, and this time you were the one to squeeze his hand, signaling that it was time to keep walking. You began, and Ayato followed. The closer you got to school, the more you dreaded the day ahead. You've been stressed about an upcoming assessment lately, an essay. You knew the essay wasn't today, but you still had to write practice essays. That wasn't your strength at all, and as your expression grew more worrisome, Ayato took notice."You'll be alright." He assured. "And if not, we could always study before class."You simply exhaled in response, "Thank you..."His thumb gently caressed your knuckles, the motion hoping to soothe your nerves. "But if you keep telling yourself you'll fail, then you will. You should try thinking like I do. Say it with me; Y/N is amazing at everything she does." Declared Ayato. This made you laugh. You shrugged with a smile and repeated him, "I am amazing at everything I do.""There! See? Much better." He purred.Smiling up at him, you took a moment to analyse his face. He looked at you with pure and unfiltered love. The pupils of his deep grey eyes dilated every moment he looked at you, and his cheeks were tinged red. His right-swept black bangs, which very partially covered his eye, drifted lightly in the morning wind. Ayato was blessed with good looks and a tall stature, if he was a bit more social then he might as well be as popular with the ladies as Budo Masuta."You're so pretty." You said. His cheeks reddened further, "O-Oh, hah, well... Thank you. You're also pretty. No, beautiful, actually.""Just accept the compliment!" You laughed. "You always turn it around to make it sound like I'm better than you.""I can't help it..." He sighed.Eventually both of you stepped past the gate, officially in school territory. You looked around at the other students, as you changed from your outdoor to indoor shoes.Musume Ronshaku and the rest of her group had already begun to walk the halls, eyes glued to their phones. Same as the Gaming Club members, all walking around in a community of four and playing the same video game on their phone. As usual, all students moved out of the way to allow the fearsome delinquents to get through, and Shiromi Torayoshi patrolled the first floor with a surprisingly laid back attitude. Out of the corner of your eye, you could see Ayato shoot her a death glare, but you thought nothing of it."Ayato." You said, snapping him out of his thoughts as he looked down back at you."Oh, yeah, right. Come on." He remembered, pulling you along and taking you to the library to study for your practice essay. He went over the basics with you. Don't retell the story, have at least two sentences of evidence per paragraph. Include lots of quotes. Use formal language. Don't use "we", "I", "us", etc. Both of you went over each other's notes, and as usual, Ayato hand his hand wrapped around your shoulder. He always had to be touching you in some way."I don't see a reason why you should be stressed about this." Said Ayato. "Look, your notes are great. You'll ace this assessment!"You chuckled at his flattery, hand going up to fiddle nervously with your new cat necklace, "It's a habit... I always get freaked out about upcoming assessments, even if I know I've done the work and taken the notes."He gave you a firm pat on the shoulder, "Yeah, I know. But I think you'll do just fine."Your expression softened. It was such a small gesture, but his praises honestly meant the world to you."I know you've done great on your all essays before.""Ayato, I swear, you know everything about me."He laughed lowly, but you didn't think much of it.Soon the bell rang, signaling the beginning of the first period. You and Ayato walked to your class, class 2-1, and sat in your seats. Osano sat next to the window, Raibaru next to him, then Ayato next to Raibaru and you next to Ayato. You were all in the back row.Oh, and speak of the devil. First period? Time to write your practice essay!Everyone got started. You glanced over at your classmates; Osano was clicking his pen rapidly in thought, both Raibaru and Ayato were writing. Raibaru looked determined. Ayato looked unamused, almost sullen. Almost emotionless. And you hadn't even started writing.Alright, remember what you and Ayato talking about. Don't retell the story, just analyse what's going on. Use lots of quotes for evidence. Oh, no, what were your quotes again? Ok, forget about the quotes for now. Use a formal tone. Don't use words like "I", "we", and "us".What were the quotes you picked again?"Hey." Ayato whispered, reaching over to place a hand on yours. His face immediately softened. "Are you alright, Y/N?"The teacher took notice of his whispers and called out, "Aishi! No speaking during the revision."Ayato shrugged. He looked at you, then his eyes quickly flitted to the door, then back to you. Oh, he was trying to talk to you with his eyes."The counselor?" You mouthed. Ayato nodded. You raised your hand, "Miss! I'm feeling overwhelmed, can I go to the counselor please?" You asked. The teacher seemed hesitant, "This is pretty important to make sure you do well on the upcoming assessment, L/N...""Please."She shrugged, "Fine, fine. Go on."You got up from your seat and left. Not being in the classroom, surrounded by silent tension definitely helped you calm down. You took a moment to look out the window, and admire the falling cherry blossoms.Ayato's words rang in your head, "Y/N is amazing at everything she does."Did he really think that, or was he just saying it to make you feel better? You hoped it wasn't the latter. You began walking the halls, but when you turned a corner, you were knocked to the floor. You grunted as your ass hit the cold concrete, looking up to see who you'd bumped into. You weren't expecting it to be Osano."Osano? Weren't you in class just a minute ago?" You wondered as he helped you up."I needed to go to the bathroom." He said back. You must not have seen him get up while you were so consumed in thought.Your feet found the cool floor when you stood up, but before Osano could walk away, you grabbed his wrist. This was your chance. You just wanted to know..."What did I do wrong?"Osano paused, his brows furrowing in thought, though you couldn't see. He remembered that conversation too well, the one between him and Ayato. He remembered the ravenette politely asking Osano to let him have a chance with you. Osano had agreed to let him have his chance. He still wanted to talk to you. But, his gut told him not to. Ever since every male friend you made was suddenly, mysteriously cut out from your life. He knew better than to doubt Ayato, after all, it could've been anyone. And not to mention how the ravenette saved his cat; Something Osano was eternally grateful for.But..."You didn't do anything wrong, Y/N." Osano sighed."Then why-"You cut yourself off when Osano gently grabbed your hand."I-I just, I don't wanna get on Ayato's bad side, is all!" He snapped, acting just as tsundere as you remembered. "I have a feeling he doesn't like me. But, not because I have a crush on you or anything, he... He's just very dedicated, I can tell."You smiled up at him, "Oh... You shouldn't worry about Ayato. He's so nice! I'm sure you'd get along with him."Osano shrugged. "Y/N... You didn't do anything wrong. But I think it's best that we part ways.""Osano..." You trailed off, when he pulled his hands away from yours, and walked back to class. "Oh, man..."Now in an even worse mood than ever, you solemnly walked down the stairs. If you didn't need to vent to the counselor before, you sure as hell did now. As you walked, you passed a red-haired boy leaning against the wall. Once you were out of his sight, he smirked, and pulled out his phone."So, history is repeating itself, huh? I doubt he'll make it out alive this time..."~~~After visiting the counselor and talking to her about your stress, she agreed to let you have an extension on your upcoming essay, and told you she would talk about it with your teacher. So now you had more time to study. After class, you walked hand in hand with Ayato to get lunch from your lockers."I packed a little extra, since you're so keen on stealing my food." You said, retrieving your bento from your locker.Ayato chuckled in response, "I like eating things that you make. Your touch is like a blessing, everything tastes better when you're the one who made it."You laughed with him at his silly response. You both started walking again, up to the rooftop, until Ayato's phone vibrated in his pocket."Huh." He mumbled, pulling it out and checking the text. You saw his smile drop from his face, into an expression you don't think you've seen before. His eyes narrowed and his smile faded. He didn't look angry, in fact, he didn't look like he felt anything at all. But there was a glint in his eyes, one you didn't - one you couldn't - quite recognise.Suddenly Ayato took you into his arms, gently giving your hair a light caress, eliciting a small gasp of surprise from you.He sighed in relief, his muscles relaxing the moment his skin met with yours. "I gotta go for a minute, ok? One of my... friends, needs help with something." He told you."Oh, um... Yeah... Alright. I'll be waiting in our lunch spot..." You answered, slightly disappointed when he pulled away and journeyed off to who knows where. You and Ayato always sat on the roof, in a more isolated spot so you didn't have to fear the consequences of just being yourself with him. You'd laugh and talk to each other, and eat your lunch, Ayato usually pointing at something in the distance to distract you so he could gobble up some of your onigiri. You were looking forward to that little work break today...Meanwhile, Ayato walked while feverishly texting on his phone.Ayato Aishi: I told you I don't need your help anymore.Info-kun: Would you have preferred me to keep this to myself?Info-kun: I told you to make him suffer. Now's your chance.Ayato stuffed his phone back in his pocket, and immediately made his way to the cooking club. He didn't feel anger. He didn't feel anything, not without you. That's why he wasn't taking any chances. His face was a blank canvas as he opened and closed the door, wrapping his slender fingers around the handle of the knife. It was a mistake to let the damned redhead live.He just needed to get rid of Raibaru.Looking around to make sure no one spotted him, he stuffed the sharp end of the knife into his pants, secured by his belt and hidden by his white dress shirt. Then, the young man stalked up to the roof. He made sure to grab a bag of salty chips from the vending machine, too.The moment he opened the doors to the roof, your eyes instinctively locked onto him. He wasn't focused on you, though. Ayato approached Osano, sitting with your brother Taro and Raibaru. He started off by giving the chips to Raibaru. After eating several, she ran off to seek water and wash away the saltiness. Ayato was friends with Osano, and therefore also friends with Raibaru, so she trusted him to be with Osano in the small span of time she went away.Ayato, trying to make it look less like he needed to get rid of Raibaru, walked a few steps back to the door before turning around and sauntering over to Osano."Hey," He started, which got the redhead's attention, "Remember that stray cat that hung out near the back of the school?"Osano's eyes sparked with interest, "Did you catch it?!"Ayato nodded. "I already showed Y/N, but I know you like cats too. Come with me."Osano followed Ayato without a second thought. Stupid, but hey, there was no hard evidence against him doing anything illegal. Osano would feel bad if he told Ayato to go away.Although... Not to Osano's knowledge, you hadn't seen the cat that wasn't actually there. Overhearing the conversation, you got up and followed a decent way behind them. The only thought in your mind was, why would he lie about that?Once making it down to the first floor, Ayato paused in front of the storage closet. "Be quiet, don't spook it." He ordered, putting a finger to his lips. Osano nodded and entered the closet, the ravenette following and closing the door behind him.Osano looked around. "I don't see the-"Ayato's hand slapped over his mouth, as the cold, silver blade of the knife met Osano's soft flesh. Hot blood squirted out from the wound, and Osano cried inaudibly into Ayato's hand. The knife sank in deeper and deeper, jerking it into Osano's back with a satisfying squishing sound, until the skin of his back pressed against the hilt.Once the blade was fully in, Ayato twisted in slowly, causing an agonising pain for the poor redhead as his muscles, tendons and nerves, were all severed.Ayato then yanked the knife out, pushed Osano to the floor, knelt over him and stabbed his back repeatedly until he was sure his rival was no longer breathing. By the end of it he was covered in blood; Staining his uniform, melting into the fabrics, dripping from his face and covering his arms. Even his hair had been sprayed with the deep red substance. He licked a few droplets of blood off of his lips, standing up and admiring his handiwork. Hm... He'd gotten too involved in the moment, now he had a huge scene to clean up.He stretched and cracked his back, turning around to exit the storage closet when he noticed... The door was open now.And you were staring inside. Both of you were still for what felt like an eternity. Your boyfriend was covered in blood, and holding the knife that'd ended Osano's life. You were scared. Too scared to move. Ayato didn't move either, as if by staying still he couldn't be seen. After a minute of staring at each other wide eyed, you took a step back."N-No, wait...!" Ayato breathed, his voice holding a sense of urgency. You took another step back, and that's when Ayato lunged at you. You only just managed to shut the door in his face, but the blade stabbed through the wood and narrowly missed the bridge of your nose. He yanked the door back open and pulled you inside. He snatched your wrist, pulling you into him, where he wrapped you in a wet hug. The blood smudged onto your uniform, and you didn't dare scream with the knife right against the backside of your neck."You brought this upon yourself, darling." Ayato said in a cold whisper. He pushed you down onto the floor and turned you around to lay on your stomach. He lifted up your head by your hair, then, slammed your forehead down onto the hard bloody floor. Hot blood leaked from the new wound on your forehead, dripping on the floor, getting in your eyes. Ayato bashed your head down again.Everything went dark.~~~You groaned as you opened your tired, groggy eyes. Then you hissed as a throbbing pain suddenly presented itself in your forehead. You couldn't remember... What had happened? Where were you...?The ceiling light blinded you, and you had to shield your eyes. It was bright... Way too bright for it to be daytime. You looked around, and noticed that you were in a storage closet. The same closet Osano had been murdered in. And speak of the devil, his corpse was still in here. You covered your mouth and gagged, the memories coming back in a flood; Even covered in a trash bag, the outline of a body was still visible. It smelt putrid in the small space. You stood up, slightly nauseous from the sight and scent of the decaying body of your friend.Yeah, it was definitely nighttime. Only one theory came to your mind on why you'd be here this late: Ayato was waiting until no one was in the school, so he could dispose of Osano without suspicion. But then, why were you still alive? Had he assumed that the blow he'd given you to the head had killed you?"Y/NNNN!~"Oh, nope. Ayato's voice. He clearly knew you were still alive and well (physically not mentally). You bolted up from the cool wooden floor, and opened up the door. You were about to start running when you saw something shiny in the corner of your eye.You turned around to see a small, golden key. You didn't know what it would unlock, but, it would be useful to take it just in case.So you did. And then you started running.Thoughts plagued your mind. Why would Ayato keep you alive, if he was just going to hunt you down afterward? Maybe this was just a sick game to him... A game of death. Osano had been eliminated, and now, it could be your turn. There was no time to think of your love for him.Because this was not the Ayato you had fallen in love with. You made it to the school entrance, and tried to yank open the door by the handle. When it didn't open, you vigorously rattled it, and it still didn't open. It was locked... Locked?! How could it be locked?! You were on the inside of the building, not the outside! You should be able to open it!!You tried using the key, but to no avail. It made sense; why would Ayato give you a key that could let you escape?Frustrated, you yelled and screamed, banging on the door with your fists."Aaaargh! Open, stupid door!" You shrieked. After no success, you slumped down to your knees in defeat. "Fuck... No no no, don't cry...!" You sniffled, feeling the tears pool in the corners of your eyes. You were trapped. You wiped your eyes with the back of your hand, and remembered a bit too late that your boyfriend was still in the school with you. Hearing footsteps growing closer, you realised your frustrated screaming had led him right to you.Whipping your head around you saw him. His uniform was clean now, as well as the knife he held threateningly in his hand. He was roughly 6 feet away from you, or 183cm.He lifted the knife higher, "Now, don't hide from me, Y/N." He ordered, cocking his head to the side with a grin. You obeyed him. You didn't hide. You ran.And he chased after you.It was an understatement to say you were terrified. No, you were scared shitless. You had never run this fast before. You screamed when you felt something stab into your thigh; Ayato's knife. You fell to the floor, realising that he'd thrown it at you.You landed on your stomach, and Ayato stepped over you. He yanked the knife out from your thigh, causing you to whimper in pain as blood flowed from the wound, and he pressed the now bloody weapon to your neck."A-Ayato... Please..." You panted. He chuckled and took the knife away. He turned you onto your back, admiring your crying face, and spoke in a mocking tone."Oh, darling... I'm not going to kill you..." He crooned. "I-"The young man screamed out in pain when you kicked your uninjured leg up, striking his crotch. He didn't expect that when he stood over you.He doubled over and held his crotch, seething in pain as you got up and quickly limped away. You weren't as fast now with the stab wound in your thigh, but, you could hide. Just like he told you not to. Approaching one of the hallway lockers, you carefully opened the door and hid yourself inside. It wasn't long until you could hear Ayato's footsteps again. "Come on out, darling!"You covered your mouth to try and silence your heavy breathing. You were shaking viciously in the locker, it was almost audible. His footsteps got closer, closer, closer, until they stopped. You stopped breathing altogether when you saw his deep grey eyes peer into the locker vents, and he chuckled. He yanked open the door and you swear you almost pissed yourself right then and there."I followed the trail of blood..." He snickered.A shrill, pathetic whine left your lips. You didn't make the sound.Ayato caressed your cheek with the knife, smearing blood on your face. "As I was saying... I'm not going to kill you.""Then what are you going to do...?!" You cried fearfully. His other hand caressed your other cheek, and his eyes softened. "... I'm going to take Osano's body to the incinerator... I'm going to burn him... Then I'm going to tie you up, and take you home... I kept you here past 6PM because I didn't want to attract attention, that's all. And now with all the students and teachers gone...""I don't wanna go home with you..." You said, interrupting him. He didn't seem to mind."Don't worry, darling Y/N." He crooned. "I'll take care of you. I'll feed you, bathe you, dress you. You won't have to worry about a single thing, ok? I'll even give you a mattress so you don't have to sleep on the basement floor."You whined again."Shhh, darling. I know you're scared. But I want you all for myself, plus, I can't let you rat me out to the police. You won't be in my basement forever. You won't be tied up forever, and the door won't be locked forever. But let me tell you what will last forever,"He got closer to you, his nose almost touching yours. You could feel his hot breath on your face. He spoke in a low, quiet tone, "Our relationship."Then he kissed you. It was a forceful, cruel and passionate kiss. You didn't enjoy any of it, but for Ayato it seemed to be the opposite. He hummed delightedly into your lips, never wanting to stop touching you.You could understand why Hanako didn't like him now.
"After all... You belong to me."
