Gotham, a city of darkness and hopelessness when it comes to the regular citizens but for the criminals, the crime families, and the corrupt and the damned, it is a place of opportunity to make a name for yourself in such a hellhole.Labeled as one of the most dangerous cities in the United States, those who move there without connections to the Falcone and Maroni organizations and try to live regular lives wind up being sucked into the city's dark pit of despair or turn to criminal activities to survive. But, for the past couple of months, criminals and those who are corrupt out of greed or a lust for power started dying from what is thought to be a group of shooters making their mark in the city. Despite efforts by the GCPD, the killers hadn't been caught as they were pretty elusive and seemed to be very knowledgeable in police procedure while the media has come to call the killers Jager.Tonight, a small Irish gang decided to take advantage of the work that Jager was doing by having a meeting at their favorite bar as an expensive Mercedes was driving down the dark streets of Gotham, heading to its destination while some people were in their homes because of how dangerous the city could get at night since there was the risk of getting robbed, raped, or murdered while others were either homeless or drug addicts.Pretty soon, the Mercedes pulled up to the bar and a couple of people got out while two gang members were standing outside of the bar to keep watch for any trouble, just before the two men entered the bar as there was indistinct chatter coming from the rest of the gang members inside the bar."Place certainly smells like dog shit!" the gang leader announced jokingly and the other gang members looked at him with smirks."There's a pot calling the kettle," one of the gang members countered with a grin.Everyone chuckled as the gang leader and the guy he joked with clasped hands before pulling each other into a hug, then they backed away and mostly everyone went to take their seats and the bartender poured a drink for the gang leader before handing the glass of alcohol to him."Gentlemen, if you'll permit me...a word before we begin. This is a night for celebration," the gang leader stated as he raised his glass and so did the other gang members."A night to discuss the future of our family, the gratitude we feel for the opportunity that's being presented before us, but just as important...it is also a moment for sober reflection. Two hundred years ago, our people were little more than dirt farmers, struggling just to survive. They had nothing but their hopes and their fists, and they brought both of them along when they came to America, some to this very city," the gang leader continued as he picked up a bottle of wine."Think you've had enough, Peter," another gang member said and Peter went to put his glass of alcohol down before looking at the bottle in his hand."Now, some of you are young...so there's no reason you'd remember, but there was a time when we Irish made a name for ourselves in Gotham. There wasn't a mother's son that could make a move without giving us our due, and any sorry shite dull enough to cross us paid a heavy price. We had the cops, judges, councilmen, had the whole bloody city at our beck and call...but we got complacent, lost our edge, just enough for the damn Falcones and a piece of shite like Sal Maroni to come and steal what is rightfully ours," Peter said and the others started agreeing."Some of us feared the Falcones and Maroni with some running, in fact. A few...maybe even deigned to work for the former, siding against their own kind," Peter continued as he walked over to one gang member who tensed up, but then Peter patted him on the head with a smile before walking away."But now, the Falcones and Maroni are targets of an unknown group that's been causing plenty of trouble for them, and that, gentlemen, has provided us with a singular opportunity of taking back what is rightfully ours. The Falcones and Maroni are getting weak and piss on 'em all, 'cause this is our time! Anyone crosses us, we'll paint the streets red with their blood and when they're gone, we'll bring fear of us back into Gotham and purge ourselves of the filthy traitors who betrayed their own kind, and make Gotham ours again!" Peter declared as he raised the wine bottle.Suddenly, gunshots erupted from outside with bullets punching through the windows and gunning down Peter, prompting the other gang members to let out panicked shouts as they shot up and pulled out different handguns to fire back at whoever was shooting at them. However, the men started dying left and right while one got shot in the neck and collapsed back into his chair, the body of one of the guards keeping watch outside getting thrown into the bar through one of the windows as bottles of alcohol and glass kept shattering from bullets hitting them.Pretty soon, it didn't take long until most of the gang members and the bartender that was affiliated with them were dead as blood was pooling on the floor and splattered on the walls and table while bullet holes were everywhere. There was a lone survivor as he peered up and didn't hear anything so he took off running and went out the back door, fleeing down the alley and passing by the other dead guard who had been stabbed in the aorta from behind while having his throat slit. The man was terrified as he ran out into the streets and kept running in the night as he quickly looked back from time to time before two shots rang out and he got hit in the back of both legs, making him scream in agony as he fell forward and hit the ground hard with his gun flying nearby. His fight or flight instinct had kicked in at that point so when he heard footsteps approaching far too calmly, he frantically tried crawling away as he let out frightened gasps before he was suddenly kicked onto his back and looked up to see someone who wore a black ballcap, black t-shirt with a black tactical vest that had a holster for a shotgun, black gloves, black cargo pants with two leg holsters that had handguns in them, and black laced up combat boots.Half of the shooter's face was obscured with a black bandanna but it was the expression in his blue eyes that frightened the gang member, the shooter's eyes looking completely cold and uncaring of his current situation as the shooter was holding a rifle so the gang member held up a hand pleadingly."W-Wait, don't kill me, please! What do you want?! You want money?! I'll give you money, so please don't fucking kill me!" the gang member begged in terror. The shooter was unmoved as he raised his rifle to aim at the gang member whose eyes widened in horror, then the shooter shot him in the brain stem and the gang member died instantly as his hand flopped to the ground lifelessly, just before the shooter turned around and walked away without a word as he disappeared into the darkness.(Danny's POV)Another group of criminals taken care of, lots more to go as I headed to my truck and got in before starting up the engine and driving away, my cold blue eyes staring at nothing as I drove through the streets of Gotham.I headed to my safehouse while I was driving and my thoughts were on the next group of targets that needed to be taken care of, turning into an alley big enough for my truck as I drove up to a dead end and got out.I walked up to the wall and pressed my hand against one of the bricks, which slid up to reveal a handprint scanner and a retina scanner while a keypad was next to them just as I had my eye and hand scanned before punching in the code. There was a beep and a large portion of the wall in front of me slid up to reveal a tunnel that went underground. so I went back into my truck and drove through the opening before the fake wall closed behind me.I drove for a bit and arrived in my safehouse, which was a large cavern that had a highly advanced computer with a radio tuned to all law enforcement frequencies, a kill house, a massive armory of firearms and explosives, a shooting range, a gym, a kitchen, a bathroom, and a bedroom.I drove and parked in a space that had a few armored cars in it before I got out, putting away most of my equipment and going to make dinner for myself as the radio chattered in the background with different police codes that I was pretty familiar with, though I was eating and just staring at nothing with a cold stare until the dispatcher on the radio said something that caught my attention."Any available units in the area of Crime Alley, we have a 187 and are requesting officers and detectives to respond to the location, and be advised that there is a child present on the scene," the dispatcher said as I finished my dinner.I left my seat and went to gear up before getting into my truck, driving down one of the tunnels, and exiting my safehouse as I went out into the streets of Gotham before heading to where Crime Alley was since I knew the location. After driving for a bit, I parked a couple of blocks away from the crime scene as the police had already arrived and blocked off the area, just before I went up a fire escape and headed across the roof of a building until I carefully peered over and activated a listening device that would help me hear the chatter much better.I saw CSU combing the scene and officers guarding the area while two bodies were covered up, and then there was a kid sitting nearby as he looked to be in shock and traumatized but I couldn't help but notice that he was familiar somehow as I recognized Detective Harvey Bullock arrive with another male detective."Oh, the legendary Harvey Bullock. No rest for the wicked, eh?" an officer remarked with a smirk as Bullock and his partner approached the officer."Tannenbaum, looking crisp. This is my new partner, James Gordon. What do we got?" Bullock inquired and Tannenbaum shrugged."Just got here myself. Male, female, gunshot. Their kid saw the whole thing, poor bastard hasn't spoken a word yet," Tannenbaum replied as Gordon looked at the traumatized kid and went over to speak to him while Bullock went to examine the bodies by lifting the sheets."My name's James Gordon, I'm a detective. What's your name?" Gordon asked gently and the kid sniffled as he trembled, not responding."It's okay, you don't have to talk," Gordon reassured him while I saw Bullock stand up after he was done examining the bodies."Listen, T, do me a favor. You didn't see me, okay?" Bullock said quietly."I see you right in front of me, so what's your problem?" Tannenbaum questioned."That's Thomas and Martha Wayne," Bullock replied and Tannenbaum looked down at the bodies in shock while my brows furrowed since I knew who the Waynes were, considering they owned Wayne Foundation and were known for doing good things for the city, so this was pretty big and a major tragedy for Gotham."I don't need that kind of hassle so call Major Crimes, they'd love to have this," Bullock whispered tensely."Yeah, but they're not here and your partner is talking to the witness, so...that makes it your case," Tannenbaum said as he pointed at Gordon, who looked back and I went to focus on him and the kid."Bruce...m-my name is Bruce Wayne," the kid said softly with a shaky voice and Gordon went to kneel in front of him."Can you tell me what happened, Bruce?" Gordon asked gently, but Bruce started crying and Gordon went to sit next to him."When I was about your age, a drunk driver hit our car and killed my dad. I was right next to him so I know how you feel right now and I promise you, however dark and scary the world might be right now, there will be light. There will be light, Bruce," Gordon told Bruce, who nodded a little."We just got out of the movies...we were walking through the alley to catch an uptown cab, and...a man came out of the shadows. H-He was tall with a black mask, and...he had a hat and gloves, and shiny shoes. He took my dad's wallet and my mom's necklace, and then he shot them for no reason. I should've done something, but I was too scared," Bruce whimpered tearfully."There was nothing you could've done to stop what happened, but there is something you can do now. You can be strong, just be strong. I promise you, I will find the man who did this," Gordon reassured him.As he said that, I noticed a black expensive car pull up outside the crime scene and an older man with short grey hair and fancy clothes got out before quickly walking up to the yellow police tape, and he was let through before Bruce got up and ran over to the man, who kneeled to embrace him while Gordon stood up and walked over."James Gordon," Gordon greeted."Alfred Pennyworth," Alfred said with a nod."We're gonna get the guy that did this, sir," Gordon vowed and I frowned since he was clearly new and was too idealistic for his own good, which tended to get people eaten alive in this damn city."New boy, are you?" Alfred inquired and Gordon nodded."You could say," Gordon replied."Good luck, mate," Alfred told him before gently guiding Bruce to his car.I watched as the two got into the car and drove away, shutting off my listening device and putting it away before moving away from the edge as I went to head to my truck while thinking about what I'd learned. When I got into my truck and drove away once I got back down to street level, I knew that the Wayne murders were going to start something that might affect the entire city for years to come, and what that was? I wasn't sure, but something told me that it wouldn't be good either way.For the past couple of days, I've been carrying out my own investigation into the Wayne murders to find the scumbag that killed them and show him that there were consequences for his actions for turning a little boy into an orphan. After finding a few low-life people who would talk and 'convinced' them to tell me what I needed to know, I discovered that one of Fish Mooney's fences was approached by someone who tried to sell him an antique four-strand pearl necklace with gold settings, one strand broken. It was like the one Martha Wayne was wearing when she was killed so I looked into the attempted seller and discovered his name was Mario Pepper, a career street thug and a lowlife who has a record of robbery, assault, rape, extortion, and drug dealing.I was going to pay him a little visit and even if he somehow wasn't the killer, I would make him talk either way to point me in the direction of where I might find the killer so I drove to the apartment building where Mario lived and made sure to park in an alley nearby.I could see Gordon and Bullock entering the building so they must've found the same thing I did, which is going to complicate things a little but they weren't a threat to me as I got out of my truck and went to head up to the roof by fire escape.Once I made it to the roof, I heard a commotion coming from Mario's apartment and saw my target come up to the roof from another fire escape while Gordon chased after him, making me move into cover as Mario pulled out a handgun and fired at Gordon. The detective quickly took cover as Mario shot at him before heading to the fire escape I came up from, and then Gordon popped out of cover and yelled for him to stop while pulling out his service weapon before Mario fired his last bullet and threw the gun at Gordon, heading down the fire escape with Gordon in pursuit.I left cover and went down the other fire escape before rushing to my truck and getting in, speeding down the alley and heading down a street before screeching to a stop from near an alley and getting out as I grabbed my bolt-action rifle and went up a building.I set up a sniper's nest across from the alley where I assumed Mario and Gordon would show up before aiming down at it, looking through the scope and taking the wind, speed, and distance into account while Mario came running into the alley with a knife until he went to hide.Gordon showed up and pulled out his gun before moving through the alley cautiously, his gun at the ready while I saw Mario popping out to knock the gun out of Gordon's hands with the knife before swinging at him.Gordon dodged a couple of times and grabbed a trashcan lid to use as a shield before it was knocked out of his hands and he dodged before hitting Mario, only to get elbowed in the face and thrown to the ground.Just as Bullock showed up and went to aim at Mario as he tried to stab Gordon, I fired my rifle and Mario was shot in the back where his aorta was severed before he dropped like a sack of potatoes and Gordon looked at Bullock, who appeared taken aback as my listening device picked up the chatter."Thanks," Gordon said."I wasn't the one who shot him," Bullock said in confusion. That was my cue to leave so I ejected the shell casing and pocketed it before leaving the roof and getting into my truck to get out of the area, heading back to the safe house and going to take a shower while I went to make something to eat. After a while, it didn't take long for what happened to make the news and Gordon and Bullock were labeled heroes in the papers as the funeral for Thomas and Martha Wayne was on Sunday so I decided to go there to watch from a distance, mostly to keep an eye on Bruce.Once it was Sunday, I went to do that as I pulled up outside of the cemetery and went to watch the funeral from a distance, though I suppose I was also showing respect for the Waynes since they had been one of the last good things this city had.Now that they were gone, it was going to leave a deep wound that the city might never fully recover from as I watched the funeral while keeping my face obscured with a hoodie, seeing the funeral continue for a bit until everyone started leaving.Gordon showed up with Bullock and he spoke to Bruce before the kid held out a hand, then they shook hands before Bruce and Alfred went to leave and I went to take my leave as well, getting into my truck and driving away.I had hoped this would be the end of it but it wasn't until tomorrow that Gordon started doing some investigating by himself and it didn't take long for me to figure out that Mario might've been framed for the Wayne murders, which didn't surprise me since nothing was as it seems when it came to this city. So, I started following Gordon from a distance as he had gone to Mario's apartment and later went to see Fish Mooney after paying a visit at the police station, and it didn't take long for me to see his unconscious body being carried out into an alley and dumped into the trunk of a car.The thugs drove away and I followed them as we drove through the city streets before eventually arriving at a slaughterhouse, Gordon being taken out of the trunk and dragged inside so I got geared up and covered my face with my bandanna until I started heading to the slaughterhouse.I snuck up and took out my combat knife to dispatch the mobsters guarding the outside of the building, heading inside while my rifle was raised and heard chatter as I took cover and peered around the corner to see Gordon hung up on a meathook by his feet while he was upside down.Three mobsters were there while one of them had a video camera set up on a tripod, and then Bullock showed up to talk to the mobsters before one of them, Butch, went to call Fish and talked to her on the phone until he handed Bullock the phone.Bullock talked to Fish for a bit and then warned that he would come after her if she had Gordon killed before talking to her for a little bit and then handing the phone to Butch, who took it and spoke to Fish while Bullock went to check on Gordon."Hey, how're you doing?" Gordon inquired as Butch hung up the phone and started approaching Bullock."I'm good, we're going home," Bullock assured him."Yeah?" Gordon questioned and Bullock nodded before he went to stand up."Gentlemen, I'm just glad everything could work out-" Bullock said and was cut off when Butch punched him in the back of the head hard.Bullock fell like a sack of bricks without a sound and his gun was taken before his feet were tied together and he was picked up so that he could be hung on a meathook next to Gordon, so Bullock's attempted rescue clearly failed poorly."How're you doing?" Bullock asked Gordon."Been better, thanks for trying to help," Gordon replied and Bullock scoffed."Wish I hadn't," Bullock grumbled before looking at Butch."Hey, Butch!" Bullock called out before Butch walked over."Yeah, save your breath. Look, if it was up to me, you'd get a bullet in the head and a decent funeral, but Fish has her ways," Butch said before calling out to someone named Frankie, just before a large guy wearing a mask and a butcher's apron showed up.Frankie went to grab a cleaver before beginning to make his way to Gordon and Bullock, who were trying to wiggle around when the door to the shipping dock opened and a group of men walked in, three of them armed while the man in the man was Carmine Falcone himself. The three armed men started blasting Frankie and the other two mobsters that were with Butch, making him hold his hands up in surrender as Carmine started approaching Butch who looked intimidated until Carmine stopped in front of him."Don Falcone," Butch said nervously."Forgive me, young man, I forget what your name is, or perhaps I never knew it," Carmine said calmly."Gilzean, sir," Butch said anxiously."Gilzean, tell Ms. Mooney she's too impetuous. If she wants to kill policemen, she has to ask for permission," Carmine told him and Butch nodded meekly."Sir," Butch muttered before Carmine walked over to Gordon and Bullock, bending over to get a good look at them."There are rules," Carmine stated before standing up and walking away from them, ordering to have them taken down from the meathooks.Once Gordon and Bullock were freed, I quickly popped out of cover and opened fire as one mobster was killed and the other two returned fire, making me duck into the shadows as Gordon and Bullock ran for cover and Butch went to quickly get Carmine to safety. The two mobsters continued to fire while I was running from cover to cover when I killed both of them with shots to the head, just before I started hunting Butch and Carmine as I went down the same direction they ran to.I kept my ears open, listening for any kind of movement when I saw my targets run and fired at them as they sprinted out of the building and Butch took out a revolver to shoot back at me, making me duck into cover.I heard them run and get into a car before I popped back out and ran at the car before aiming through the EoTech holographic scope and firing a few shots, causing the back window to shatter as the car sped away and I lowered my rifle with a cold glare."GCPD, don't move!" Bullock shouted and I moved fast, whipping around and tossing a smoke grenade at them after pulling the pin."Take cover!" Gordon yelled in alarm before they took cover behind a car and the smoke grenade went off, giving me enough cover to run so that I could make it to my truck and drive away quickly.I left the area after that and made sure that I wasn't followed as I drove back to my safehouse and parked my truck once I was back, getting out and putting my equipment away before going to sit down on the couch and stared at nothing with a cold gaze, displeased that Carmine got away but I'll find him eventually and once I did, nothing on this earth would stop me from putting a bullet in his skull.'One day, Falcone,' I thought as I continued holding a cold glare.
