Jiang is fairly sure that the heat will kill him. June in West Virginia has always been horrible, but this year came an unexpected heatwave, making the temperature practically unbearable. The end of the school year could not come any faster. What was worse than the persistent heat, was that Kavinsky’s father decided this was the perfect time to repaint the entire interior of the house and while that was happening, they couldn’t stay there.Jiang could probably survive the weather if he could take refuge in K’s airconditioned house, but the dorms had only barely working ceiling fans, which didn’t provide much comfort. Jiang has always preferred spring and autumn to the summer and now, he was genuinely suffering. The only consolation was that Kavinsky was suffering as much as he was, if not more. He relocated to Proko’s dorm and complained about the temperature nonstop. Jiang was honestly surprised Proko could stand listening to his whining all the time. With the end of the school year came finals and they were all stupidly busy studying. Jiang barely saw K and Proko outside school. Proko preferred to study alone, claiming Jiang and K were too distracting, which was probably true, so he was mostly hoarded up in the library. Skov and Swan took the dorm room and although Jiang would be more than happy to take K to his room, he didn’t think his roommate Charles would appreciate the company.K mostly just disappeared after school, taking the car without saying where he was going and when he’d be back. Jiang had no idea how he was passing his finals. He’s never seen him study.Jiang was pretty sure that with the studying, staying at the dorms and the lack of exposure to his boyfriends (and the obvious lack of sex), he’d go mad in no time.“I can’t do this anymore,” he whines to Proko one afternoon when they’re stuck together at the library.Proko looks up from the history textbook with a frown. “If you want to whine, go somewhere else.”Jiang sighs. “You’re mean when you’re stressed.”“Tough luck,” Proko concludes flatly and goes back to reading. Jiang wishes he could force himself to focus like that.“Where’s K?” He asks instead.“No idea.”“Does he study at all?”“Of course he does.”“Really? When?”Proko shrugs. “Mostly during the night. He says he can’t focus in the heat.”“It’s not much better in the night,” Jiang mumbles. He hasn’t been able to sleep properly for what feels like ages. “When did he say the house would be done?”“By the end of next week hopefully.”Jiang groans and slumps on the table. He will have boiled alive by then.“Seriously, quit whining.”“You’re horrible. You know there’s an entire math section here that’s always abandoned and we could totally fuck there?”Proko looks up from the textbook again, his expression stern. “I am not fucking in the library. Call K if you want sex so badly.”Jiang considers it. He wouldn’t say no to sex in the car, mostly because the car had air conditioning. He leaves Proko in the library and goes to take the call outside, frowning at the sun that shines brighter than ever.K answers on the first ring. “Yeah?”“Are you in Henrietta?”“Nope. Like fifty miles out.”“Fifty miles?” Jiang echoes dumbly. “What are you doing?”K laughs. “What do you think? I went for a fucking drive.”“Right. Well, call me when you get back.”K hums. “Do you need something?”He needs for this fucking heatwave to end. He needs for the finals to be over. He needs to spend at least a day just lying around in K’s bed. “I just… wanted to see you,” he manages lamely.“We’ve seen each other like an hour ago,” K points out amusedly.Jiang rolls his eyes so hard he’s sure K can see it through the call. “Yeah, in econ. I don’t think that should count.”K just laughs. “Where are you?”“Library. Proko’s being an insufferable nerd.”“He’s always an insufferable nerd. Give me like forty minutes, I’ll pick you up.”Jiang sighs. He wants nothing more than to let K do just that and drive somewhere far away. “I need to study.”“Who’s being an insufferable nerd now?”“I have a history final tomorrow.” He was hoping Proko would help him study, or at least offer emotional support, but Proko already fucking knew the textbook by heart, and it only made Jiang feel worse about the whole thing.K scoffs. “Just cheat off Proko.”“Is that how you pass all your tests?”“Do you want me to pick you up or not?”Fuck the school and fuck the final. “Yeah, okay.”“I’m on my way,” K assures him and ends the call before can Jiang change his mind.He goes back to the library, hoping to at least study for the half an hour he has before K gets there.“K is picking me up in like half an hour, you wanna come with us?” He asks Proko.“To go where?”Jiang shrugs. “Probably just drive around. Maybe get some food.”Proko raises an eyebrow at him. “You are aware the final is tomorrow, right?”Jiang rolls his eyes. “And you are aware that you could recite the textbook by now, right?”Proko gives him an ugly look. “Just go without me.”Jiang sighs. He knows better than to start a fight about this. “Fine. We’ll get you some food, okay?”“Okay. Thanks.”Half an hour later, K marches into the library and Jiang wonders if this might be the first time he’s there on his own accord. He spots them easily and walks to their table, presenting them with cups of iced coffee. It might be the best thing that ever happened to Jiang.“Uh, I love you,” Proko says, more to the coffee than to K.K smirks. “Ready to get out of here?” He asks Jiang.“Yup.”“Don’t forget to take some breaks, yeah?” K tells Proko and drops a kiss into his hair.“Yeah, yeah,” Proko agrees, already shooing them away, but the look in his eyes is fond. Jiang suspects it’s mostly because of the coffee.Jiang is more than relieved to sink into the leather seat of the Mitsu, letting the air conditioning blast at him from all angles. He sips the coffee, which has gone tepid, all the ice melted, but he doesn’t complain.“Food?” K suggests when he starts the engine. It’s too fucking hot to eat. Jiang just wants to close his eyes and stop stressing about school for a moment. “Can we just drive around for a while?”“Yeah, sure.” K gazes at him briefly. “Are you okay?”“Hm? Oh, yeah. I just can’t stand the heat.”“Tell me about it. One would have thought, that with all the tuition money, the dorms would have something better than one stupid fan.”“I know, right? At least you don’t have to share a room with Charles.”“I would’ve suggested you come sleep with us, but we barely fit in the bed by ourselves. Plus, sharing with Skov isn’t exactly a win either. He snores like an old man.”Jiang chuckles. “Have you considered getting him one of those mouth tape things?”“Maybe a duct tape would be sufficient.”Jiang laughs and drinks his lukewarm watery coffee, feeling better than he felt the whole week. “Try and find out, I guess.”They get out of Henrietta and drive towards the fairgrounds, that are currently abandoned. Jiang thinks they’d just pass through, but K guides the car to a dead-end forest road and parks it there.“Are you done with that?” He asks, nodding to Jiang’s almost empty cup of coffee.Jiang blinks at him in confusion. Is K meeting someone here to sell drugs or something? “Yeah?”“Good.” K takes the cup from his hand and flings it out the window. Jiang wants to point out something about unnecessary loitering, but before he can get any words out, K’s already climbing over the centre console and into his lap.Jiang automatically puts his hands on K’s hips to steady him and K grins at him. “This is why you called me, no?”“Are you a mind reader now?”“Maybe you’re just predictable.”Jiang rolls his eyes at him and kisses him. It’s been a while since the last time they kissed, and Jiang wants to enjoy it while it lasts. K entertains him for a while but gets impatient soon enough, grinding down on him, and making him aware of just how impatient he is.Jiang fumbles with the lever to make the seat recline to create at least a bit more space. “You need a bigger car,” he says before finally succeeding.K smirks and mouths at his neck while unceremoniously undoing the zipper on his pants. “This is cosy.”Jiang’s chuckle turns into a moan when K licks his hand and finally touches him. He doesn’t care about the cramped space or how they’re both sweating despite the air conditioning or how it’s just a shitty handjob. He finds K’s mouth again and busies himself with undoing his pants as well.“Let me fuck you,” he mumbles into K’s mouth.K laughs, sounding already breathless. “There’s no fucking space for that.”Jiang reclines the seat even more. “There you go.”K bites his bottom lip in retaliation. “Idiot. Do you have lube?”“Don’t tell me it’s not around here somewhere.”“Probably. Do you wanna look for it?”Jiang really doesn’t. “We can fuck without it.”K makes a face at him but his hips twitch involuntarily, which Jiang takes for an enough of a permission. It takes some serious manoeuvring, but in the end, they make it work. The angle’s not great and K has to do most of the work and it’s absolutely illegal since they’re still technically in public, but Jiang might die if they stopped. K’s eyes are closed and he’s frowning but he never tells Jiang to stop or even slow down, on the contrary only urges him on. He’s always been a sucker for pain.“You’re such a fucking masochist,” Jiang says but he’s more than happy to oblige. K just nods and kisses him sloppily, moaning into his mouth. Jiang wraps one of his hands around his throat and the other around his cock and K actually keens, mumbling something that sounds like a curse, but Jiang can never be too sure, since every Bulgarian word from K’s mouth sounds like a curse to him.K comes first, making a mess of Jiang’s T-shirt, and Jiang follows right after. K rests their foreheads together for a moment, in order to catch a breath and Jiang laughs and combs K’s hair out of his face. He really fucking needed that.“Now can we get the food?” K asks when he pulls away.“Yes, please.”They do their best to clean up and Jiang doesn’t fail to notice the way K winces in pain when he sits back behind the wheel.“You good?”K smirks. “It’s cute that you think you could actually hurt me. I’m fine.”They drive back to Henrietta, get enough food for the five of them and return to the dorms.“Do you think Proko’s still in the library?” Jiang asks as he gets out of the car.“I texted him to meet us in the dorm if he wants to eat, so hopefully not.”“Smart.”“No need to act so fucking surprised.”It’s stifling hot in the dorms, despite the fact it’s an evening already. It’s like the heat got trapped there and couldn’t escape even during the night. They find Swan and Skov in the dorm room, along with two extra fans situated on the windowsill, rotating slowly.“Hey,” Skov greets them excitedly, his eyes already on the takeout boxes in Jiang’s hands. He flings the textbook he’s been reading away and reaches for the food. “What’s that on your shirt?” He asks, inspecting Jiang’s dirty T-shirt and immediately recoiling when he realises what it is. “Ew! We thought you were studying.”Jiang shrugs, takes the T-shirt off and steals one of Proko’s. “We needed a break.”“Where did you manage to fuck?” Swan asks and starts digging through the takeout boxes to find out his own.“The Evo.”Skov tilts his head in confusion. “Isn’t that too small?”“They aren’t exactly tall,” Swan points out amusedly.“Fuck you,” Jiang replies without much heat in the words. “You’re just jealous because you’re too tall to fuck in a sports car.”“I think we’ve managed just fine, actually,” Skov says with a grin and Jiang pretends to gag.Proko shows up soon enough, looking tired and done with the world, and flings himself on the bed next to K, leaning his head on his shoulder and gratefully accepting his food. “You smell like sex,” he says to K, scrunching up his nose.“If you weren’t too busy being a nerd, you could also smell like sex,” K replies with a grin.Proko only rolls his eyes at him.“I’d like to see you three trying to fuck in the Evo,” Skov says.“You fucked in the Evo?” Proko asks.“Yeah.”Proko frowns. “Did you fit?”K scoffs. “Obviously.”“The seat reclines all the way down,” Jiang supplies.Proko doesn’t look convinced. “Still, the ceiling is like right there.”K shrugs nonchalantly like he didn’t totally hit his head on said ceiling at least three separate times during their escapades. They finish their food and Proko is kind enough to go through the most important things for the history final with Jiang. Skov and Swan go back to their respective textbooks, and they all collectively ignore K, who takes one of the fans and puts it right in front of his face but still whines about being hot and also being ignored. When Jiang goes back to his room, it’s late and he finds Charles already asleep. Small wins, really. He props open the window and climbs into his own bed, tired and sweaty, despite the fact he had a shower like ten minutes ago. He would sleep naked, but he doesn’t think Charles would appreciate that. He kicks the blanket to his feet and closes his eyes, praying the sleep would come.…Jiang has no idea how he manages to finish all his finals. He genuinely forgets everything the second he hands the final over. His brain feels like it’s melting, either from the information or the heat, he’s not too sure.“Can we go to a party or something? I need to get drunk,” he says during their lunch break, sitting in the cafeteria with Proko and Skov.“Me too,” Skov agrees.“I have my last final tomorrow. We can go after that,” Proko offers. “But I have no idea if there are any parties.”“Surely someone’s throwing a party on Friday,” Jiang says. “K will know. Where is he anyway?”Proko looks at his watch. “Chem final. He should be done soon.”“It’s his last too, isn’t it?” Skov asks.“Yep.”“Good. Swan has his last one tomorrow as well.”Proko pushes his half-full plate of pasta away. “I’m going to the library.”Jiang smirks. “Shocking.”Proko flips him off and leaves them. Skov watches him go and sighs. “He needs to chill the fuck out.”“Try telling him that,” Jiang mumbles bitterly. “Last time I did, he almost bit my head off. Thank God, it’s almost over.”After lunch, Skov goes to make mental support for Swan and Jiang ends up in his dorm, which is thankfully empty. He doesn’t have a plan, but he wouldn’t say no to a long nap and maybe finding out what is K up to afterwards. But firstly, he sits on the windowsill and lights a cigarette. He’s been stress-smoking almost half a pack a day the past few days and he knew he should cut back now, but that’s a problem for a future Jiang. The door suddenly opens, and he frantically tries to simultaneously stub the cigarette, wave away the smoke and act super casual, because he really doesn’t need another lecture from Charles about how smoking is bad and how he can’t do it in the dorm.Turns out it’s only K and he gives him an amused look, closing the door behind himself.“Jesus, you almost gave me a heart attack,” Jiang says and frowns at the stubbed cigarette. It wasn’t even half done. “How did the chem final go?”K shrugs and sprawls on Jiang’s bed. “Fine, I guess. Do you wanna watch a movie or something?”“As long as it’s not Fast and Furious.”K pouts. “Not even the Tokyo drift?”Jiang rolls his eyes. “God, you have such straight man taste in movies.”K fake-gasps. “You take that back.”“I will if you admit that Fast and Furious is dumb as hell.”“I want a divorce,” K announces.Jiang laughs and joins him on the bed. It’s a tight fit but he craves the closeness. He tangles his legs with K and pulls up his laptop to find a suitable movie. K grumbles about the heat but he makes no move to pull away. They end up watching some thriller that turns out to be pretty boring and halfway through, K very unsubtly starts mouthing at the spot just below Jiang’s ear, where he knows he’s awfully sensitive.“We’ll miss the plot,” Jiang points out but it’s a poor excuse and they both know it.“See, that would’ve never happened if we watched Fast and Furious,” K says and bites his earlobe.“You’re such an idiot,” Jiang says with a laugh and turns to face him so he can kiss him properly.K hums happily into his mouth, shrugs off his T-shirt and immediately moves to take Jiang’s T-shirt off as well. Jiang is more than happy to let him do whatever he wants. This time when the door opens, it’s actually Charles and he does not look happy to see them. They pull apart and K gives Charles his best death glare. It works marvellously. Charles goes all red in the face and very pointedly avoids looking at them. “Sorry, I’m just…” he motions vaguely, takes some notebooks from his table and hurries back to the door. “I’ll go to the library.”“Do you think he’s homophobic?” K asks when the door closes behind him.Jiang snorts. “Probably. Either way, he looked terrified of you.”“I’m very terrifying.”Jiang laughs, but he does have to admit that before he got to know K, he did think he was pretty terrifying, mostly because he seemed batshit crazy.K kisses him again and he just reaches for the waistband of Jiang’s pants when the door opens again.K looks like he might strangle Charles at that moment. “Can’t you fucking knock?” He hisses.“I forgot my textbook,” Charles explains, as if that would help ease K’s anger.K mutters something under his breath in Bulgarian. Jiang is probably glad he doesn’t understand it. Charles backs out of the room quickly and this time, K gets up and locks the door after him.“You do know that he has the key, right?” Jiang asks.K shrugs. “It will slow him down at least.”“True.”K goes back to the bed, closes the laptop, the movie long forgotten, and puts it away before climbing on top of Jiang.“Do you think he’s going to come back anytime soon or…?” K asks.“If he does, I hope he’ll be scarred for life.”K smirks and takes it for permission to go on.…Turns out there is a party on a Friday evening and they all can’t wait to go. Jiang would do literally anything to get out of the dorm. Ever since Charles walked in on him and K, he’s already given him two separate monologues about how since he doesn’t bring anyone over, Jiang probably shouldn’t either. The first time Jiang doesn’t think much of it, but when he tells him for the second time, Jiang, irritated and ready to pick a fight, points out that of fucking course he doesn’t bring anyone over when he’s got zero game. Charles shuts up after that.Jiang still complains about him loudly to Proko when they’re smoking together outside the night of the party. They’re both pleasantly tipsy by then and Proko finally looks relaxed and there’s some kind of glitter smeared over his cheekbones, and he looks fucking beautiful.“Skov’s sleeping over at Swan’s room today, so you can sleep in our dorm if you want,” Proko offers.“Really? That would be fucking awesome.”“Sure, no problem. I missed having you around.”Jiang smiles. “Aw, you are a sappy drunk.”Proko rolls his eyes at him, but he’s smiling as well. “Shut up.”“It’s cute,” Jiang insists. “I missed you too. I can’t fucking wait for K’s house to be done so we can go back.”“Me too. I forgot how horrible the dorms are compared to the house.”“I know, right?”The door to the house opens and K pokes his head out. He’s holding drinks in both of his hands and unsuccessfully tries to close the door with his foot. “Hey, what are you bitches doing out there? You’re missing the party!”“It’s too crowded inside,” Proko says. “And I needed a cigarette.”K gives up trying to shut the door and joins them, handing one of the drinks to Jiang and stealing his cigarette in return.Jiang takes a sip and grimaces. “What the hell is that?”“Alcohol.”“And?”K shrugs. “More alcohol.”“It tastes disgusting.”“My goal is to get drunk quickly, I don’t care about the taste.”Proko takes the other drink from him. “I think you’re already drunk plenty.”“It’s working then,” K says cheerfully.Jiang and Proko exchange pointed looks but Jiang supposes they deserve to get drunk after the shitshow of finals.By the time they get back to the dorms, it’s so late it’s practically morning and they’re all stumbling up the stairs, doing their best to support each other, but doing a shit job. K ends up stranded in the middle of the staircase, unable to get up by himself and when Proko tries to help him, he ends up sitting next to him, also unable to get up. Jiang laughs at them, takes a picture and then goes to offer his assistance. How they actually get to the dorm is a mystery. Jiang is pretty sure they managed to wake up the entire floor in the process.“I’m taking Skov’s bed,” K announces victoriously once they’re inside and falls onto the bed with a relieved sigh before shimmying out of his clothes.Jiang laughs at him but does pretty much the same. He takes the side closer to the wall and when Proko joins him, he shamelessly snuggles closer, ignoring the heat. It’s been too long since he slept next to him. Proko obediently pulls him close, and Jiang would happily die like that. When he wakes up, the room is full of light. He’s lying entangled with Proko, both of them naked and sweaty, the blanket twisted around their feet. He cranes his head to see how K ended up, but the other bed is suspiciously empty.“Morning,” Proko mumbles sleepily and pushes himself away from Jiang. “Fuck I need a shower. What time is it?”Jiang reaches over him to locate his phone. “One forty-three. Where’s K?”Proko looks to the other bed and frowns. “Either getting food or puking in the bathroom.”“Considering how he looked last night I think I know which is more likely.”Proko snickers. “I wouldn’t be so sure, K’s body digests alcohol like it’s water.”Speak of the devil, K walks through the door, balancing a tray with cups of coffee in one hand and paper bags in the other. He has the sunglasses on but otherwise looks like he had a good night's sleep.“Morning,” he says cheerfully when he sees they’re awake. “Guess what? The house is fucking done. We can go back in the evening.”Jiang isn’t sure if he’s more overjoyed with the prospect of coffee and breakfast or the news.“Fucking finally,” Proko says and grabs one of the coffees. It’s iced and he presses the cup against his forehead. “My head is killing me.”Jiang takes a cup as well but winces after the first sip. “I think I’m gonna puke.”K starts digging through the paper bags to get to his food. “You’re both lightweights,” he says still awfully cheerful.“How are you not hangover?” Jiang asks him miserably and takes another experimental sip of the coffee. It doesn’t help the nausea.K shrugs. “I guess I’m just built different.”“I hate you.”K sighs, abandons the food and digs through one of the drawers, pulling out a packet of Zofran, which he hands to Jiang.“I take it back, I love you.”K shakes his head at him and crouches in front of Proko, who’s still using the coffee cup as an icepack. “You want some painkillers?” K asks him, his voice soft, putting his hand on Proko’s knee in support.Proko nods and K immediately produces three different brands, presenting them to Proko like a prize. Proko chooses one at random and swallows two of the pills with a swing of the coffee. “Thanks.”K patiently waits until the pills kick in before handing out the food. As usual, he got all the greasy comfort food they always craved when hungover, and they eat it sitting on Proko’s bed. K undresses back to his underwear and Jiang and Proko don’t bother getting dressed at all, and Jiang is sure that if someone walked in on them now, it wouldn’t be great, but he doesn’t exactly care. He wants to eat, shower and then let K drive them to the house, where he wants to crawl into K’s gigantic bed in the airconditioned bedroom and sleep until he feels better. He takes one look at Proko and knows that he’s thinking about the exact same thing. When they do finally get to the house, the first words out of K’s mouth are: “Do you wanna watch Fast and Furious?”
