Work Text
After everything, it seemed that I, the ‘Player’ of this world, had finally reached a happy ending for this game.
It has been two weeks since I altered this world's fate, and surprisingly it worked.
Clover was alive, and was living with Marlet.
But the main problem still persisted, keeping him alive.
Marlet was in no shape or form ready to take care of a child, much less a human one. She had birdseed, sunflower seeds, and- yea only seeds. Not to mention the whole human biology thing like bathrooms… She wasn’t my first pick at all.
Much to his horror Ceroba was my first choice
Oh yes she tried to take Clovers soul, knocked Starlo and Marlet couscous, and hid things from her close friend group for several years… but she knew how to take care of a human, how to keep secrets, could put up a fight, most importantly actually having experience taking care of a child.
Ok said child died but that was excruciating circumstances.
Clover didn’t particularly like that option, so it was skipped.
The next options for a caretaker was Starlo and the feisty five. I argued against it as the whole ‘give a loaded gun to a child’ incident, so we settled on Starlo’s parents instead.
They were surprisingly confident, being old and not active gave them a lot of time to read, and they were friends with Ceroba & Chujin, so they actually knew basic human needs.
I wish we could have kept that timeline, the parents had a
talk
with everyone and it was utterly hilarious. To Clover it was horrifying seeing his western idol getting burned, feisty five included… Then when Clover tried sneaking out he was asked what he ate recently.
True to his nature, Clover confessed that he had eaten 'Packing peanuts and, uh… alcohol?' with the slow realization of what he just said dawning on him.
Naturally I recorded the entire incident and shared it with Flowey.
Sadly we missed out on Ceroba getting burned as the royal guard came.
No matter what Clover being in the dunes would result in a quick capture, so now the entire area was off limits in our search.
Next up was Dalv, and he was a no- me and Clover instantly agreed on that. The vampire was struggling to take care of himself, much less a child with special needs.
Then there was Mo.
That timeline was fun. Seeing that Dalv wouldn’t come out of the dark ruins, and that it was between eating birdseed and Mo’s food, we brought Dalv out and went traveling with Mo.
…Going into waterfall wasn’t the best idea, but at least it was good for Dalv.
The logical conclusion was to go back to before Flowey started meddling, living with Toriel.
Clover rejected that proposal, though unfortunately despite being 12 and somewhat lacking in mental capacities
(seriously jumping down a 4 story drop like what the fuck-)
he actually had some good points.
For one, for all her good qualities Toriel was a bit overbearing. She cared a bit too much, and wouldn’t let him do anything she deemed ‘dangerous’- like magic, or interacting with the ruins residents.
When Frisk came many years later she fought to keep them there… regular visits out of the ruins were not guaranteed.
Then there were the ruins themselves. Old home was quite a large city, but it was dull and gloomy. There was no sun or plants, it was constant and stale.
I didn’t know the exact details, but I was certain it was pretty empty with all the monsters slowly losing hope and dusting. I naturally didn't tell Clover about this as that was a future when we weren’t dealing with things like his currently caretaker accidently poisoning him
Fun fact: humans can’t eat all the seeds that birds can, go figure.
So yea… Marlet was the last option left and somehow,
by some miracle
, it worked. He didn't starve, get ambushed, or even fatally poisoned.
…I should probably mention what happened with Flowey.
After several runs me and Clover exhausted most options, so we just… told everything to Flowey. Said flower said he already knew about my existence, but didn't know I could communicate.
We hatched out a deal. Flowey would help Clover live and get a happy ending, and I would supply Flowey with entertainment.
A few runs involving stealing determination and making Alphys paranoid later, my effect on the world increased ever so slightly allowing me to start importing stuff between worlds.
At least that’s what I told Clover, in reality at night I could now puppet his body, so I held up my end of the deal and started copy-pasting books and code into a computer Flowey ‘acquired’ from the steamworks.
Again one of these days I’m going to have to tell Clover, but that’s for later. Right now we have achieved this happy ending, and it wouldn’t be right to start something up.
Clover’s actually living his life.
Marlet’s woodworking is starting to take off.
Starlo was made an official sheriff to ‘help capture the elusive human’
Axis is busy repairing the Steamworks, but he seems to enjoy it.
The feisty five mainly follow Starlo, though they have help (distract) the royal guard with the whole steamworks-coming-online deal.
Through some convincing Dalv is now a business partner with Mo in their traveling store. They're having fun and occasionally stop by with news.
Ceroba is… recovering. It’s a bit tense but Clover forgives her and is currently trying to make everyone get along.
Flowey is a little shit who I’m starting to realize has way too much time on his hands. He’s been screwing with the royal guard and playing pokemon, sometimes even doing both at once. It’s a bit annoying when he fucks up and has to load, but he’s made a habit of saving daily now.
All in all, it’s the happy ending.
…
But why am I still connected? This world has already gone way past its intended ending.
There is no need for a player, it’s self-sustaining with Flowey taking care of things.
It could be a result of throwing cannon so hard out the window, but I worry that something’s going to happen.
After all, what is a game without a driving plot?
----- CHAPTER BREAK -----
I shouldn’t have said anything. There was a gift horse, and I looked at it in the damned mouth.
After everything was settling down and we finally entered a sense of normalcy, something just had to go wrong. Clover got sick. He got sick, and didn’t tell anyone for several days.
The only reason why I found is because Flowey directly told me, then proceeded to tell everyone else.
So here we were, Clover stuck in bed with Ceroba acting as a doctor and members of the feisty five watching over them.
…I get why, but common- Starlo, Axis, Dalv, and Marlet all tried killing Clover but you guys don’t care about them?
At Cerobas orders (and getting traumatized by a human disease book) Dalv and Mo are currently buying supplies to make human medicine via the steamworks.
In the last letter then sent they apparently teamed up with El Bailador to get some of the more niche chemicals, and the fact that Dalv is apparently loaded. The vampire just kept collecting old coins that fell into the dark ruins, and never spent them.
As for Flowey, he’s neutral on the whole thing other than being mildly annoyed. He can’t get new content from me anymore (Clover’s in no shape for me to puppet around), and he can’t get new ideas for the same reason.
Still, he has kept up his end of the bargain and has tried out some of the things I’ve said beforehand, like using weapons.
…I pity Frisk in the future, he’s now decent at using guns, thanks Starlo.
…..
A few days have passed, and Clover’s still sick.
He’s currently in the dunes as being cold in Snowden wasn’t exactly the best thing for him.
Starlo and the others finally made up with Ceroba at some point, as Clovers currently staying in one of her guest rooms under a pile of blankets.
Since I have the power of the all mightly web, I have been looking up possible illnesses. Besides having no energy there weren't any identifiable symptoms besides a fever and coughing, which… well… don’t help narrow it down at all.
It could be a cold, or it could be a brain-eating amoeba, I don’t know.
Flowey has since moved on from his gun and found a new hobby, screwing with the royal guard, but this time with a gun. It kept them out of the dunes, and Flowey wasn’t thinking about going on a murder spree as trolling was just more entertaining.
…There is now a wanted poster for an echo flower with googly eyes.
…..
More time has passed and I’m fairly certain Clover is worse than he’s telling people, but at least now I got an actual doctor on the case.
A certain Doctor W.D Gaster decided to contact me
Apparently my activities
interested
him, according to him I created some sort of link using perseverance and not determination/whatnot.
Besides a bunch of science jargon there was actual advice he had, so we struck a deal. I wouldn’t interfere with his observations, and he would try and help.
He was no means a human doctor, but he was a scientist, and scientists knew how to ask the right questions.
For one, how exactly did Clover get sick?
Monster illnesses can’t transfer to humans, and there's no way a disease made its way through the entire ground- nevermind the save points, monster food, or other magic things.
So why is Clover sick?
….
We did research, and Dr. G has been enjoying his notes/whatever-he’s-doing.
Though, he gave me a warning. As apparently I have been ‘persevering’ and not ‘being determined’, which could mean that this new ending was doomed from the start.
To be determined is to challenge fate, to break the bonds of destiny. To persevere is to go around them, and ignore how they are slowly tightening around your neck.
Which…. uh…
On the bright side we have a rough idea on the illness is, some sort of parasite Clover had pre-underground.
I’ve been transferring Gaster textbooks about the topic, so hopefully we’ll have the exact one soon.
It has to be something that lays dormant, or at least doesn't actively attack the body all the time, and there are very few illnesses which can do that.
At this point everyone’s starting to slowly freak out. Clover has been showing no signs of getting better, and I’m certain one of them is going to do some despite actions soon.
In cannon Marlet broke into the royal lab, Ceroba attempted an asasanation, in this universe what lengths will the others go to?
…..
I knew something was going to happen, and I don’t know wether to laugh or scream
The steamworks has declared independence from the rest of the underground, and has since sacked the royal laboratory with the phrase ‘MEW MEW REVOLUTION!”
Axis what the actual fuck. And how is Mew Mew there-
Anywho the undergrounds currently on fire with the reveal of the amalgamates, what happened with Chara/Asriel, and oh! Marlet got a suspicious looking syringe, wonderful.
As the universe wasn’t done yet Clover coughed blood and Flowey lost his shit.
A meeting was called, and now everyone was currently arguing in the next room over loud enough for me to hear.
Marlet wants to use the syringe. Ceroba’s trying to calm everyone down. Starlo, Axis, and everyone else want to raid the castle, steal the human souls, and cure Clover.
Which… well… Gaster finally found what’s making him sick.
Tuberculosis.
A disease which can infect young people, stay dormant for years, and most importantly: repeatedly hibernate without damaging the body, therefore avoiding being labeled as an ‘invader’.
Eventually due to the noise Clover woke up, and I told him directly.
After all and everything that has happened, multiple timelines fighting to get this one, it was doomed from the start.
So I asked him, what now?
I could reset, and simply do a canon run, or we could keep this timeline, but yield much more breakbreak than canon.
He made his choice, and got Flowey to tell everyone.
…..
My connection to the world has been cut, with Clover soul stuck in the jar something broke and I’m just met with a black empty void whenever I boot up Undertale Yellow.
Clover wanted to keep this timeline, and do one last goodbye before giving up his soul. So he did.
I have the game open in the background, in case anything changed or the events of regular undertale happened.
Though, I doubt it will happen anytime soon given what I know of cannon undertale- 1 human about every 15 years.
I’ll be waiting for them, in the meantime Gaster offered me a new deal. To see new worlds and follow him on his journey, to not be alone in the dark.
One day I’ll return to this world and to see what happened, and to help things along, but that’s in the future… I still have things to tell Clover.
