Work Text

Jason didn’t know how he ended up in this. Warm feeling in his chest, butterfly kisses on his skin, and a knot in his gut. He didn’t know how he ended up with him. Kyle Rayner. He was so beautiful that not even words could describe as he struggled to even put his words on paper. He was a poet yet he struggled with how to construct the very thing he became the master of.Soft brown locks and deep emerald eyes that reminded Jason of those distant fields he once ventured with as a child. Yet even describing Kyle with those words seems to be hopeless in revealing reality. Everything about Kyle was sweet and it rotted his teeth. It was sickening that he ended up with a rotting man like him.Jason couldn’t exactly describe what Kyle was to him… he was precious… But a frown fell on his face. Was that even a worthy title for Kyle? There had to be more.Something that could describe what he was feeling.Because Kyle didn’t deserve to be stuck with him.No one ever deserved to be stuck with a rotten apple like him. He was filled with parasites that’ll infect and spoil anything it touches. Sweet delicacies turn to food for maggots as smiles turn to broken teeth and skin swell with welts and wounds. Jason was rotten to the very core.He remembered tripping that day. Tripping and allowing his heart to be free from his chest, rotting as it was full of maggots and attracted flies right beneath Kyle’s heel, waiting for him to stomp all over it like everyone else had. But he didn’t.And Jason never knew why.“Jason?” Jason perked his head up when he heard that voice. It always got his attention. Kyle stared back at him, the morning sun breaking through the horizon practically making him glow with soft hues of orange and pinks. It made him look like an angel.“What’s wrong? Cat got your tongue?” The man chuckled, light and free. It warmed Jason’s heart, “I said good morning to you a bit ago. Were you sleeping with your eyes open?” He teased, booping Jason's nose causing his heart to thump loudly against his chest and his cheeks to burn a bright crimson.Jason opened his mouth, words clogging against his throat like they always did when he was around Kyle. Before he was able to cough out a weak ‘good morning’ while trying to hide his reddening cheeks and away from that bright grin on the other man’s face.Kyle laughed once more, it sounded like an angel’s voice as his eyes sparkled with so much love and admiration for him.Jason frowned. Was he really that worthy to witness this beautiful symphony?Once his laughter died down Kyle gave a long, drawn out sigh as he stared into Jason’s eyes. “I love you.” He said, with that toothy smile and that love sick voice that Jason knew was always reserved for him. “God Jay, I love you so much.”

Jason stared at him, “that’s a strong thing to say to a monster…” he mumbled.Kyle rolled his eyes, “you’re not a monster, Jay.” He whispered, soft and gentle as he gave Jason a soft kiss on the cheek. “I’ll take care of you.”Jason felt his breath get caught on his throat as he saw himself frowning. “Don’t give me those empty promises, Ky. Taking care of me will be rotten work.”Kyle’s gaze turned soft, before shaking his head, “Not to me. Not if it’s you.” Kyle gently placed his hand on Jason’s cheek. Jason had always been so envious of how Kyle could easily say these words.“Aren’t you afraid though? That I might stain your clothes with blood?”Kyle snorted out another laughter, “stain them, I don’t care. As long as I’m with you, why should I care?” Kyle asked as he snuggled closer to Jason, his face at the crook of his neck making him feel warm all over and a light dusting of blush to spread onto his cheeks. “Now c’mon, it’s way too early for us to be up. Let’s sleep in a bit more.” Kyle yawned.Jason stared at the palms of his hands as they shaked and stared back at him with their scarred features, all patchy and rough, telling thousands of stories in a mere amount of seconds. A big danger sign that always seemed to hover around him before he found himself slowly concealing it behind Kyle’s pale nightgown as he dipped his face into Kyle’s neck. Jason gave a long, drawn out sigh, taking in the scent that he constantly found himself intoxicated with. He clutched the soft fabric, stilling the shaking of his hands. “Alright.”
