"lee donghyuck"
in the corner of the huge classroom, a tanned male quietly raised his hand as he walked towards his professor's desk. he was dreading this day ever since he took the exam. he was absolutely sure he was going to fail.
as he approached the professor, he gave him an uneasy smile, contrary to the glare he was receiving. donghyuck knew by that impression alone that he had let the teacher down.
"donghyuck, you have once again received below 40%. with this rate, you're going to fail the whole semester,"
the professor said, handing him the sheet of paper as he rubbed his temple.
donghyuck knew it beforehand, but he still couldn't help feel extremely disappointed with the result. he had studied. he really had tried. but it took him hours to understand the concepts which others understood in a few minutes. and so, he couldn't even finish reading all the materials they were supposed to.
he knew he wasn't stupid. he had aced his biology and mathematics class, which weren't easy subjects at all. he just simply didn't understand chemistry and hated the subject. he wished he could drop it, but it was a mandatory subject in his course.
he knew he wasn't dumb at all, but the grade on the paper really stung. his brother had aced this subject and graduated at the top of the class. he was sure his friends too would have performed well on this test.
why was god doing this to him? academic validation was the only sort of validation he needed, and now he was being deprived of even that.
"donghyuck, i need to speak to you. rest of the class, you're dismissed,"
the professor announced. the class immediately shuffled to pack their bags and move outside. donghyuck saw his friend jaemin give him a sympathetic smile and signal that he would wait outside.
as the room settled into silence, mr lee, the professor dragged his chair to sit near the student. donghyuck liked him. he was a middle-aged man with a great humour and understanding nature. three things all his other professors lacked. he was also an omega, and despite that, he had the capability to command the room so properly, the student wished he could be like that too.
mr lee had always been nice to him, despite his horrible grades. he always tried to make class fun for everyone and didn't hold any sort of superiority complex, despite him being an extremely honoured professor at the university.
he was also a good friend of his parents and had taught his brother who had pursued the same course three years back.
"hyuck, listen to me. i understand you're facing difficulties with this subject, but you need to share them with me in order for us to find a proper solution,"
mr lee spoke calmly, pointing to the sheet in donghyuck's hand which was crumbling under his tight hold.
"i simply don't understand the concepts properly, and when i do, it takes a lot of time. so much that i don't have any time left to learn anymore,"
donghyuck replied. voicing out his problem made it feel much too real and now he felt tears spring up in his eyes. he felt stupid. mr lee must think he is not bright as well, irrespective of his spectacular performance in other subjects.
to his surprise, the professor just nodded before asking,
"why don't you take help from your brother. taeyong was always on the top of my class, and i doubt he forgot his basics so soon."
"he has been really busy with his new job. he has also been working on some personal projects, so i doubt he can dedicate a few hours every now and then to just teach me,"
donghyuck told the professor.
he knew if he asked taeyong to, his brother wouldn't think twice before agreeing to help him. but he knew that johnny was busy, and in order to help him out, he would sacrifice a lot of things to take out time. and donghyuck did not want to be a burden on anyone."i got a call from your father yesterday. he was quite worried about your performance in my subject and was genuinely concerned if you would be able to pass the semester,"
mr lee said.donghyuck felt like dying. he didn't want his parents to be worried about his grades. in high school, he scored great all the time, so they were always chill about his future. but now hearing his father's concern for him, he couldn't help but feel like a liability on their shoulders. especially because they never had to worry about anything similar with taeyong.
donghyuck hated himself so much. why couldn't his brain just comprehend chemistry the way it understands everything else?"do you think taking extra classes would help? personalised tutoring, to be specific,"
the professor asked, breaking his chain of thought.
donghyuck hadn't thought about it before. he had tutored a few kids back in high school, and he had never thought he would be at the receiving end of it one day.
"i think, yes. in class, i cannot keep up with the pace of other students, and hence struggle with the material taught entirely. i think if i was taught at my pace and all my doubts were answered at the time they arise instead of having to email you later, i would improve,"
donghyuck replied, resonating with everything he said. in class, the smart ones always hogged the professor's attention and never gave him any chance to ask his doubts.
"but wait, who would be tutoring me?"
the student asked.
the professor smiled,
"see, i don't extend this favour to anyone, but since you're a friend's son and i was really fond of taeyong,"
he took a dramatic pause,
"i am ready to personally tutor you. two hours, three days a week, if that works for you?"
donghyuck burst into a smile. he would have been embarrassed and uncomfortable with another student. he usually hated that mr lee and his parents were friends, because he reported his actions to them easily, but at this moment, he was so glad and thankful.
"great, so if monday, wednesday and friday works for you, we'll start today itself, so you pass the semester final exam. i will be seeing you at seven today, i hope,"
mr lee stood up, heaving a sigh.
"but mr lee, the university campus closes at six."
"donghyuck, i cannot tutor you at the campus at all. remember, this is a personal favour due to your family. it would also induce other students to ask me for the same help, and i already have too much on my plate. we'll be studying at my house," mr lee chuckled at the student's question, as if it was the obvious.
donghyuck nodded, understanding the gravity of the situation. before he could say anything, the professor interrupted,
"my son had chemistry as one of his subjects too in first year. sometimes, if i am busy, he would also be able to teach you. he graduated at the top of the class, of course."
the student nodded, thanking the professor for his help and left the classroom. he still had another hour before his mathematics lecture, so he walked towards the university cafeteria where he knew his friends would be.
he was proven right when he saw his friends— jaemin, jeno, jisung and renjun sitting at the cafeteria table, waving at him. he had met all of them in physics class and stuck with them since they were really kind and helped each other out in assignments.
their group was a bit unusual since alphas and omegas didn't really mix much at the campus. but donghyuck never had a problem with it, since he wasn't attracted at all to the two alphas in the group, jeno and jisung. he was sure jaemin, the other omega felt the same. and renjun as a beta, never had this problem in the first place.
before he could even greet them, a loud voice already caught their attention,
"oh my god, hey guys! sorry my class just got over now!"donghyuck and the others laughed as they saw another close friend, chenle run towards them and pant for air. while chenle was a finance major, he was jisung's best friend since middle school, and hence got introduced to the group. chenle too was an omega, so it was easy for them to be friends and bond over their problems."calm down chenle, it's not a happy day for us. just received our chemistry exam results,"
jisung said, but smiled at his best friend who took a seat next to him.
jaemin heaved a sigh, leaning back on his seat,
"it was such a horrible test. mr lee said he made the test quite easy, but it was the hardest question paper i ever attempted."
"at least you guys passed,"
donghyuck chuckled at his own state,
"i literally am so tired of this subject.""what did mr lee talk to you about after class?"
renjun asked, sipping on his iced latte. he sounded genuinely concerned for donghyuck.
"well, he is going to offer me personalised classes at his house due to him being a friend of my parents,"
donghyuck told them. he knew they wouldn't tell about it to other students.
jeno's eyes crinkled in a smile,
"aw, that is really sweet of him. though, i didn't know professors have that much time on their hands."
"they don't. mr lee told me that he would ask his son to take over every time he is busy since he was good at the subject too,"
donghyuck told the alpha.
at the mention of mr lee's son, jaemin suddenly jumped on his seat, looking overexcited and eager, "oh my god, mr lee's son? he has two! which one are you talking about? leave that question, they're both so stunning and hot. oh my god, you're so lucky."donghyuck swore he saw jeno roll his eyes.
he nervously laughed, sensing jeno tense up. he didn't know what pissed off the alpha, but the energy in the air was already charged and judging from chenle's expression, he too felt it.
"well, he didn't specify which one. i know he has two, jaehyun and mark. whoever it is, i don't care. i am going there to study, jaemin"
jaemin looked at donghyuck as if he was the most boring person ever, and completely oblivious to the tension,
"come on donghyuck, they're both so good looking, i wish one of them were my alpha because dam-"
he was interrupted as jeno abruptly stood up, his chair screeching on the floor and he simply walked out the room without saying a word to anyone.
jaemin looked at the now quiet table before asking the others,
"what happened to him?"

donghyuck stood outside mr lee's home at exact seven. the house was huge, with wooden frames and big, tinted glass panes. he knew being a professor paid well, and he knew that even mr lee's wife worked at a big firm. he had never really visited their house, always declining whenever his parents asked him to join them for a visit, thinking it would be awkward.but now he understood why his parents insisted on him seeing the professor's house. it was really grand.
"come in, donghyuck. jiho told me that you would be visiting often now,"
mrs lee opened the door for him. she was really tall and beautiful, and despite being an alpha, she looked like the most approachable and friendly person ever. donghyuck had met her multiple times in the past at his home and really loved her warm aura.
"finally, irrespective of any excuse, we get to welcome you at our home,"
she told him, leading him towards the drawing room and asking him to sit. donghyuck scanned the house, so many doors leading to different rooms, so many plants and paintings and a lot of bookshelves, full of chemistry and accountancy textbooks.
before mrs lee could say anything else, one of the doors swung open, and a male walked out. donghyuck thought it would be mr lee but when he took a proper look at the man's face, he was stunned.
a complete stranger to him stood there, with a face that donghyuck swore was crafted by aphrodite. he had high cheekbones, jet black long hair, broad shoulders and curtains of black eyelashes covered the oceans of his chestnut brown eyes.
donghyuck could feel his scent, he was an alpha. he smelled like the rich, fresh aroma of wooden pine—sharp yet comforting, like standing in a dense forest after a storm. there was a subtle crispness, reminiscent of rain-soaked soil, adding a cool, refreshing note to it."mark, you're still home? i thought you had to meet jungwoo," mrs lee exclaimed as she stood up, "oh my, meet donghyuck. he is minhyuk and yunhae's son. he is here for extra classes your dad talked about."donghyuck knew he should stop staring at the man, but it felt magnetic. mark smiled at him, "hey, nice to meet you." even his voice sounded so good, it made him felt like he had lost his own. and that moment, donghyuck knew he was so doomed.

donghyuck was irritatedit had been a week since his extra classes began, and he hadn't seen mark again. he had hoped every day that mr lee would get stuck in some work ask mark to teach him, but it seemed like the teacher had all the time in his hands.
and so donghyuck did what he knew the best.
manifestationit was a habit he had developed a few years back, when he saw taeyong write in a diary multiple times that he would become the valedictorian for his school. it was an extremely hard thing for taeyong to achieve since he too was an omega, and the position was reserved for alphas.and taeyong had simply affirmed the statement thousands of times in that diary, along with working hard, and had achieved it.
donghyuck always felt his parents must be embarrassed of having two omega kids but that day as taeyong stood on the stage, he saw pride shine through their eyes so brightly, he had decided he would work just as hard.
and along with working hard, manifest his luck too.
he manifested many things, some got fulfilled — getting into a great university, having good friends, clear skin, while some were left incomplete.he grabbed the blue journal lying in his desk. it had been lying untouched for the past two months, ever since he got into his dream university.
donghyuck felt nervous as he picked up the fountain pen. he had silly crushes on many guys in the past and wrote about them in the journal on all those occasions, but none of them had come to be true.
and he knew he should take the sign and stop wasting his time. heck, he shouldn't even be doing this since mark is mr lee's son and it would be so inappropriate. but he couldn't help himself smile as he wrote,
i hope
mr lee's son (mark) and i become friends in near future.
◆◆◆when mr lee opened the door for donghyuck, he was dressed in a fine suit.
"oh mr lee, are you going somewhere?"
the student asked, suddenly being scared if he had missed any message from the professor about no class being held today.
"donghyuck, i am sorry i couldn't inform you beforehand. the university board kept a sudden meeting due to some unforeseen circumstances and i have to report there as the head of biochemistry department,"
mr lee told him as he welcomed him inside,
"however, don't worry. i have already told my son what you need to be taught, and i am sure he can manage for a day."donghyuck felt his cheeks flare up,
"oh, that's completely fine sir. is it jaehyun hyung or mark hyung?"he really hoped it was the latter, and he hadn't even seen jaehyun once.
mr lee let out a chuckle,
"of course it's mark. jaehyun is literally a financial accountancy major. like his mother, he doesn't know anything about the beauty of chemistry."donghyuck had faith on his journal but even he didn't expect it to work this quickly.
and then it suddenly hit him, this was going to be so awkward and embarrassing. how did he even expect that mark would be friends? he must be a dumb student who his father had to teach in his free time in the alpha's eyes.
"mark will be downstairs any minute, please make yourself comfortable till then. i must leave now. if you have any problems, just call my wife. she is in the next room,"
mr lee told donghyuck as he took a seat and then proceeded to grab his car keys and walk out of the house.
there was complete silence for few minutes as donghyuck just scrolled through his phone, but then he was interrupted by the sound of a door opening.
mark was drop dead gorgeous. he didn't even look up once, his entire attention on his phone but donghyuck already felt his scent. the wooden pine which he had been dreaming about for the past week. the one he tried to search for in every single alpha he met but failed to find.
"hi,"
he broke the silence, finally looking at the omega.
donghyuck swore he could go into heat by just fantasising about his voice.
"hey! first of all, i apologise that i am wasting your time like this,"
donghyuck replied. he didn't know why he said it, but he had the gut feeling that any outgoing new adult would be more interested in other activities than tutoring a failing student.
"no, it's completely alright. i, in fact volunteered for it when dad told us about it. i really love the subject,"
mark smiled at him, and it was the kind of smile most people would die for. donghyuck wished he could take a picture and look at it every time he was upset.
the student opened his textbook,
"well, i certainly don't if that's not obvious enough. and to make things better, this chapter about drug nomenclature is going all over my head."
"this was actually my favourite chapter back then."
great, mark definitely dislikes him. they're definitely polar opposites and he would already be cussing his fate.
as mark sat next to him, donghyuck couldn't help feel the blood rise to his cheeks. he had no idea why he was acting like he had never been this near to an alpha ever before. his body never reacted like this when it was next to jisung or jeno.
he really wished he wasn't releasing any sort of pheromones to let the alpha know about his state. what if he gets creeped out and never meets him again?but then donghyuck took a deep breath. why was he worrying so much about impressing a total stranger? what if mark's personality sucked?
but he felt the question being proved wrong as more time passed. mark was so gentle in teaching him everything. he didn't show any signs of annoyance when donghyuck asked him to repeat the same thing thrice. he didn't make him feel stupid when he struggled to solve even the simplest question.
all his life he had known alphas to be short tempered and be the ones throwing tantrums. even jeno and jisung didn't have this much patience whenever he asked them a question.
"okay, you just need to solve this one question, and then we are done for the day,"
mark said, pointing to a question. donghyuck felt shocked, had two hours passed already? he was so fascinated by the alpha that he hadn't even realised the time.
at first glance, the question looked easy but then ten minutes passed by, and he was stuck a step.
"well, it shouldn't take this much time,"
mark commented, noticing that the student's pen wasn't even moving anymore and he was completely frozen.
"i'm trying,"
donghyuck muttered, shifting in his seat as he felt the alpha's stare.
"it is supposed to be a really question."
"in that case, i know i am stupid. i just cannot deal with this subject,"
donghyuck said, pushing the notebook away, heaving a sigh.
mark shifted in his seat, his body now completely facing the omega's. he waited for donghyuck to look at him before speaking,
"listen, you're not stupid. dad told me you're a very bright student and you completely ace mathematics and biology, which is very impressive to me since i struggled with maths."the omega felt his heart rate increase. did mark just say he was impressed by him?"however, there is one major problem with the way you study chemistry that really sets you back,"
mark continued,
"you try to mug up everything. you don't really learn how to solve the questions, and why a particular step is being used. you just try to memorise the steps in a hasty manner. also, you don't revise the basic concepts often, so you're left confused when they appear in a new syllabus."donghyuck was taken aback because he was hit with the realisation that everything mark just said was true.
he gulped,
"how did you observe this much within two hours?"mark smiled, looking away in the other direction,
"well, let's just say that i am really good at observing people. anyways, work on what i told you and the next time we meet, you better improve."donghyuck couldn't help but smile at the idea of a next time. does this mean mark wants to meet him again?"okay, thank you so much,"
he said, not even feeling his voice as they stood up and he noticed the subtle height difference between them.
mark was really everything that he wanted in a mate.
well, unlucky for him, he was also completely off limits.

"oh my god, you're telling me that he was so sweet to you and managed to look hot while explaining drug nomenclature?"
jaemin asked, sipping his tea.
it was the time for the weekly bonanza.
well, that indeed sounds fancy but it's actually just a hang out organised by chenle, jaemin, renjun and donghyuck on a weekly basis in different cafes and restaurants in order to catch up and try different cuisines.
catching up included sharing all the details about every single hot alpha they might have seen this week.
donghyuck learned that jaemin knew both mark and jaehyun since they were frequent customers at the nightclub owned by his parents. this was indeed the most interesting information to him.
"yes, i am not going to repeat that again, it's so embarrassing,"
the tanned omega said after repeating the instance for the fourth time to jaemin because the latter was so excited about this topic, he kept picking it up.
"hyuck, what if he is your mate? like there is no other reason why you would develop such instant attraction towards mark?"
chenle said, taking a bite of his strawberry fondant cake.renjun chuckled,
"but if that was the case, mark would have felt it too. did he make any moves?"donghyuck stared at the others with a blank expression,
"guys, stop acting like i have met mark multiple times. we only seen each other once, and we were discussing chemistry where i was making a fool out of myself. also, in case you have forgotten, he is completely off limits.""right,"
the excitement on jaemin's faded very quickly,
"mr lee is definitely the conservative type... he would not appreciate you if you ended up using his offer to teach you as a way to get to his son.""jaemin is right, it actually sounds very weird when you put it like that,"
renjun noddedchenle joined the agreement as he added,
"not to mention, your parents are literally friends. so, in case anything goes wrong, it's going to be a bit weird..."donghyuck slumped against his chair, burying his face in his palms,
"yes, i know guys. pursuing mark isn't a good idea at all."but donghyuck knew he wasn't sincere with that statement. yes, he knew it was a bad idea, but something inside him craved the idea of being with the older alpha. it was a suffocating feeling in his chest, not ready to calm down.
"anyways, why don't we call jisung and jeno here? this is getting really boring, no offense,"
chenle suggested, noticing the lively atmosphere of their table fading away. it was still early evening and they had finished their assignments, so there was nothing better to do.
"you can call jisung. but if you invite jeno, i am leaving,"
jaemin stated, not looking at the others and fiddling with his spoon.
renjun looked confused,
"did you two fight? that's a bit unusual."he was right. jaemin and jeno had clicked the fastest in their group and were never caught fighting with each other. in fact, jeno usually agreed to whatever jaemin said with a smile and never tried to argue with him.
when jaemin noticed the stares at him from all the members at the table, he sighed. feeling pressured to talk about it, he spoke,
" i don't know what is wrong with him. remember last week? when i was just talking about mark and jaehyun, he abruptly stood up and left. i texted him later about that behaviour and he just left me on seen.""i forgot about it, and things eased between us again. but then yesterday, we went out to my parent's club together. this alpha asked me out for a dance, and he was really good looking and smelled nice. so, i agreed but by the time i came back, jeno had literally left without saying a word,"
jaemin continued.
"i don't appreciate this attention seeking behaviour,"
jaemin stated,
"if he wants me to only talk to him and not even talk about anyone else, that's an unrealistic expectation from a friend."donghyuck's jaw hung in the air in disbelief. chenle and renjun too stared at each other with the most confused expression ever.
everyone knew jeno liked jaemin. everyone, except jaemin.
"oh god, you two need to stop acting like kids,"
renjun said, giving a lighthearted whack on jaemin's head.
jaemin was going to interrupt when the door of the cafe slung open and two people walked in, grabbing everyone's attention.
donghyuck couldn't believe his eyes.
mark lee— his professor's son, the topic of all his conversations, the alpha who had appeared in all his dreams in the past week and his current hyper fixation, stood just a few steps away from him.
he looked so gorgeous, with his hair looking a bit wet, probably from a shower. his skin was glistening, and he had donned a simple outfit of a leather jacket, t shirt and jeans. and god, to donghyuck's eyes, he looked no less than a statue sculpted by michelangelo.
but then he noticed that mark was standing with another guy. he was much taller and had the same shade of black hair, and as he smiled, his dimples were etched so beautifully in his skin, donghyuck felt a bit jealous.
was that mark's boyfriend? possibly that jungwoo guy, whose name he had heard from mrs lee on the first day of his classes. donghyuck really hoped mark was single. yes, he knows that mark is completely off limits, but at the moment, he felt he would die if he found out that mark was already with someone else.
"oh my goodness, is that mark and jaehyun?"
jaemin said, breaking his chain of thought.
jaehyun? as in mark's sibling? donghyuck felt himself release a sigh of relief he had no idea he was holding.jaemin waved at the duo, calling their names and grabbing everyone's attention in the cafe along with that.
donghyuck wanted to dig a hole and bury himself in it. he could not afford any more interactions with mark. he knew that the latter would be so nice to him and the omega would fall deeper in the pit of attraction. and it would hurt when he cannot get any closer.
"jaemin, i didn't expect to see you here,"
jaehyun smiled, walking towards their table with mark following him. now that jaehyun was closer, donghyuck noticed how dazzling he was. he also smelled and looked like an alpha.
no wonder mr lee's mood was always cranky in the morning, he had to live under the same roof as three alphas.
donghyuck couldn't help but be amazed at the parallels of his and mark's family. while the latter's had three alphas, his had three omegas— his mother, his brother taeyong and he, himself. in fact, as donghyuck looked at jaehyun even more closely, he was reminded of his own brother, with equally sharp features and stunning visuals.
"donghyuck, what a surprise to see you here,"
mark exclaimed, "jaehyun hyung, this is donghyuck, the guy i was telling you about yesterday. he is also minhyuk uncle's son"
but the omega didn't hear anything. mark talked about him to jaehyun? did he talk about good things? or was he complaining about how dumb he was? he really hoped it was the former, and he wished he had something to hold over jaehyun so he could find out what mark meant.
when did he even get so desperate? it must be his heat approaching.
"please join us if you would like, we're really bored either way,"
jaemin offered, scooting to the other seat as he made space for the two people.
jaehyun politely nodded,
"of course, if that is okay with everyone else. we're here just for a bite since our house is a bit... noisy at the moment."
the table fell silent at jaehyun's choice of words. did he just imply that mr lee and mrs lee were interested in their own activities?
"i did not need that visual of mr lee, i have to face him in class every day," renjun muttered under his breath, loud enough only for donghyuck to hear.
"well, i will go place our order and be right back. two chicken sandwiches, right hyung?"
mark asked, standing up and looking for a confirmation from his elder brother.
chenle suddenly gasped,
"oh my god, donghyuck i am craving another pastry as well. can you please go get it for me?""i can get it for you,"
mark interjected before the omega could even reply"no, no!,"
chenle jumped in his seat before clarifying,
"i mean, how will you carry two plates of sandwich and then a pastry as well? you only have two hands. take donghyuck with you."donghyuck couldn't believe the audacity of his chinese friend. wasn't he just lecturing him about how he should maintain his distance from mark? but then at the same time, he really wanted to give chenle a big hug.
he stood up, walking with the alpha towards the counter on the opposite side of their table. suddenly, being alone with mark, made him feel really nervous. he could feel his cheeks heating up, and he knew his scent would indicate the sudden tension in his body."so, how you have been?"
mark asked
"we met yesterday, mark. not much changes within one day,"
he replied, suddenly slapping himself mentally. he should have given a better, more sophisticated answer.
but to his surprise, the older just chuckled,
"i am sorry, i don't know how else to start a conversation. anyways, what a nice coincidence that you're friends with jaemin.""we're in the same class and really good friends. i, too found it fascinating when he told me that he knew you guys, he never mentioned being friends with mr lee's sons ever before."
donghyuck replied, suddenly noticing that the line was very big.
he and mark were going to be alone for at least the next seven minutes, and something inside him really enjoyed the idea of that.
mark nodded,
"yes, i mean, we aren't really the best of friends. we just know each other because we really go his parents' club often. by often, i mean, almost every friday."donghyuck made a mental note of that information"his parents really have designed it greatly. no other nightclub in the city lives up the standard set by them,"
donghyuck added. he had no idea why he was talking about a damn nightclub but as long as it kept the conversation going, it was cool.
"it was one of the first places i visited when i came here from canada. i met a lot of my best friends there, so it's kind of a special place to me,"
mark shared, as they took small steps forward as the line moved slowly.
donghyuck's heart fluttered at the idea of mark sharing about his life with him.
"wait, you used to live in canada?" donghyuck asked, suddenly registering the information shared with him.
mark smiled at his astonished expression,
"we have moved around a lot. we first lived in toronto, then we lived in america for four years, and then back to vancouver. now, we're here and i doubt we're going to move again."the omega felt relieved as mark completed his sentence.
as the line moved finally for them to get their chances to order, donghyuck looked at the multiple options in front of him. chenle wasn't really a picky eater, and loved trying out fancy dishes, so he knew what he had to get,

the cashier nodded immediately, but mark chuckled before gently correcting him,
"it's pronounced as profiterole."
donghyuck subtly rolled his eyes before whining,
"oh canada"and the minute mark burst into laughter at his expression, donghyuck knew he was really falling deep.
because hearing mark laugh, he knew that he really wanted to make him laugh again and again.

donghyuck was tired of this little crush he had on mark.it wasn't really going to yield him any result because he would never act on his feelings. furthermore, it was actually quite stupid in his opinion because he had only met the alpha a few times and didn't know him well enough to ruin his mental health over him.
so donghyuck decided that he would try to forget about mark from the next day.
"are you even listening to me?"
the professor's voice interrupted his chain of thought. he had totally forgotten that he was supposed to focus on his class in order to not fail and respect mr lee's time and special favour for him.

the student replied, fumbling his words.

mr lee looked impressed, shocked even. he patted the student on the back as he burst into a smile,
"see, it's really that easy. you would score great in the next examination if you keep this up."maybe mark was the motivation that god had sent him in order to help him out. maybe having a crush on mark was a good idea, because irrespective of never being able to date him, at least he would pass his chemistry exams.
as mr lee flipped the page of the textbook, before he could start speaking, his phone vibrated. he immediately stood up,
"donghyuck, i have to take this. it's from the university, i will be right back."this left the omega completely clueless about what to do without any instructions, so he just started scrolling his phone the very minute mr lee left the room.
he had a few text messages from jaemin, which was weird since the man was more of the type to call than text.

the omega felt a sudden adrenaline rush. he wanted to hug jaemin right now. he was so delighted right now, that he was ready to pay for all the upcoming group hang outs on jaemin's behalf.
it had been so long since he had a crush on anyone like this and he was actually enjoying this. he nervously clicked on the instagram handle, leading him to app and the profile of the alpha he had been thinking about every night.
mark's instagram looked really aesthetic at first glance. there were posts of his face, food, nature, musical albums and his friends.
one post was a simple picture of watermelon, with the capation saying that it was his favourite thing. donghyuck decided that he would keep this in mind for educational purposes.
another post had mark sitting on green, lush grass with his hand thrown around the shoulder of another guy who looked japanese, with sharp eyes and a very bright smile. the omega checked the tags and discovered that the man was named yuta.
was this mark's boyfriend?
donghyuck knew he shouldn't care this much, but he was so bothered, he opened the ID of the unfamiliar man. he scrolled past his posts and let out a sigh of relief when he noticed another man flirting in yuta's comment sections and the japanese guy was reciprocating with replies of his own.
going back to mark's profile, donghyuck continued to look at the various pictures he had posted. there was one picture that captured his attention. mark was standing against a backdrop that looked like an amusement park, and he was pointing to a ferris wheel, while smiling brightly. his eyes were sparkling and it looked like the kind of pictures that were framed in museums.
donghyuck really envied the person who got to click this picture and see mark like that.
"damn, i really do look good in that picture."
donghyuck jumped from his seat, clutching his phone close to his chest as he heard the smooth voice, belonging to someone he hadn't even noticed walk in the room. when he properly looked at the owner of the voice, it was of course, mark who stood there, leaning against the wall, with a small smile on his face.
"it's not good to peak into other's phones, mark. and for your information, instagram just suggested me your account for no reason so i was just deciding if i should follow you or not, on the basis of the quality of your posts,"
donghyuck rambled. he was so embarrassed that mark had caught him staring at his picture.
"oh, i see,"
mark mumbled, but it didn't sound convincing enough,
"well, what have you decided in that case? am i worthy enough of your follow?"the omega tensed at the question. being alone with mark made him wonder if all this tension was really brewing in his head because he had been lonely for so long? because nothing else could explain why a simple, platonic question had him feeling nervous and releasing pheromones to help himself calm down.
"when did you even come here, oh my god,"
donghyuck asked, dodging the question and avoiding mark's gaze completely as he took a seat, and flipped through his chemistry textbook.
"in case you have forgotten, this is my house. i just came to this room to grab a book though. i was disappointed that you didn't even notice my presence, but well, i guess you had better things to do,"
mark teased, not knowing the effect it had on the omega.
"shut up mark. again, as i said, i was just checking your posts to decide if you were worthy of my follow or not,"
donghyuck replied, violently flipping through the pages of his textbook, acting as if he was genuinely interested in studying at the moment.
to the student's surprise, mark glided his fingers across the textbook and closed it, capturing his full attention,
"well, then answer my question. am i worthy enough or not?""your instagram account is just fine,"
donghyuck replied, not bothering to meet the alpha's gaze,

ever since the interaction between him and mark last week, donghyuck really wished he wouldn't get to spend any more time with the alpha alone.
for someone so bold and outspoken, despite being an omega, this was actually a huge shock to donghyuck and his ego. he couldn't even look at mark when he spoke because it made him feel like he was going insane and losing all his senses.
mark couldn't be his mate, given their circumstances. so why was this even happening to him?donghyuck was going to just ring the bell of the professor's house when the door opened and he stood there, face to face with mark."um hey,"
mark scratched the back of his neck,
"well, i hate to talk about this, but i think it would be a good idea if you skip today's class?"donghyuck immediately understood the implication, someone in the house had gone into heat or rut and was definitely causing chaos.

he replied, but he didn't sound too enthusiastic about having a day off.
"is there any problem?"
mark asked, noticing the subtle frown on the omega's face. he really was a keen observer as he claimed.
the student shrugged, walking back towards the road as the alpha followed him,
"i have this chemistry project due on friday. mr lee was supposed to help me out with that today by explaining its content and questions to me. but now, the next class is on friday evening, after the deadline of the submission, so i am stuck now."mark stared at donghyuck's worried expression,
"you know that i can help you out, right?"
"i really don't want you to waste your time and be a burden."
donghyuck also wanted to mention that he didn't want to spend any more time with him because he cannot afford to grow so attached that it starts to pain soon when mark goes out with other omegas.

it was located at the corner of the cafe, shielding them from everyone's gaze, with absolutely no windows on their side for them to be distracted by another passerby or event outside. it was just him and mark.
now yes, the logical reasoning was that they came here to study, so of course mark would choose a more silent place, but donghyuck was one delusional man.
"are you this generous with everyone, or am i supposed to feel special,"
he asked, testing the waters.
mark looked at him for a second with a small smile on his face before replying,
"which option should i choose in order for you to get a good sleep tonight?"donghyuck was not definitely not expecting mark to reply with such a question. he knew he cannot fall in the flirting game, he knew it would pull him only deeper. so he resorted to the safer choice,
"of course, the first one. don't inflate your ego too much, i was just wondering why are you helping me so much when you don't even know me.""what's your favourite colour?"
mark asked suddenly
donghyuck looked puzzled,
"what? where did that come from?""what's your favourite colour, donghyuck. we don't have all day, do we?"
mark asked againmoved by the sudden change in the tone of the alpha, the student just replied instead of interrogating him,

"what do you like to eat the most?"
"kimchi stew."
"what are your hobbies?"
donghyuck had no idea where this was going, "singing, playing table tennis, sleeping, listening to music and everything else that doesn't involve chemistry."recently stalking mark's instagram had become his hobby too but he wasn't going to mention that.
"who is your favourite singer?"

mark muttered before continuing,
"what is your favorite movie?""the lion king,"
he replied,
"now can you tell me why are you taking my interview?""you said that i dont even know you, but now i do. is that enough for me to help you now, or do you want to have a deeper bonding session before we discuss your project?"
mark replied, taking a sip from his cup of regular americano.donghyuck was flabbergasted. mark really had his own way around his words. he wondered if this expertise of his extended to other areas too.he face palmed himself mentally, thinking his heat must be near.
"i think we can start,"
donghyuck replied, not bothering to meet the alpha's heavy gaze.thankfully mark didn't poke him with anything else, and they got to work. surprisingly, donghyuck didn't really get distracted again. mark was of course, a great teacher. he helped him understand all the requirements of the project, the content that should be presented and how he could make it simpler and everything else.there were a few minutes where he looked at mark as he spoke. the way his lips moved and how badly donghyuck wanted just one taste. just one kiss to see how they would feel against his own and how they would mould into each other.and mark's scent was so good. donghyuck's inner omega just wanted to sit next to him and get an even closer smell. the smell of pine and rain really infiltrated all his senses and made him feel warmer, compared to the overpowering scents of other alphas.

"blue."with the questions about favourite food, hobbies, favourite singers, favourite movie down, donghyuck knew he had to approach the other questions before mark got reminded that he had actually exhausted his question limits.
"what are the name of your best friend?"
"johnny, but i have other close friends as well. jaehyun too is more like a friend than a brother,"
mark replied, smiling at the name of his best friend.so, it wasn't jungwoo? the guy he had seen on multiple instagram posts by him and even heard his mother mention? was jungwoo really his boyfriend?donghyuck treaded around the next question very carefully,
"how many relationships have you been in?"he wondered if he was overstepping boundaries, but the alpha just simply replied,
"four.""have any of those lasted till now?"
donghyuck tried to act natural and casualbut mark broke into a smile, a very teasing one at that,
"if you want to ask if i am single, you can just ask that."donghyuck was flustered and he knew it would show as a red tint on his cheeks. why did mark have to be so straightforward. but he was donghyuck after all, the ever bold and confident, so he decided to act indifferent,
"you're trying to twist this into something else, mark. don't answer the question, i really don't care."he decided he would kill himself in case mark actually ignored the question or worse, said 'yes, i am still in a relationship with an amazing omega that i am going to marry soon.'"sure,"
he mumbled before saying an answer that lit up the omega's world,
"no donghyuck, i am single."donghyuck doesn't know what shifted suddenly, but the air felt a lot cooler. the sun was in fact shining a lot more brightly. the cake that he was eating was actually perfectly suited to his taste, despite him finding it too sweet before. it was indeed a great day to live on earth.
"now, if your exhaustion has faded away, can we get back to work?"
mark asked, picking up the textbook again.
he really knew how to ruin donghyuck's mood but he was grateful, because he really shouldn't get his hopes up.after all, mark was still mr lee's son and dating the son of a man who invited you to his home to help you study, not really the most professional resume you can have.

for the first time, donghyuck hated that a chemistry project was finished.usually he would dance, twirl around, play music, eat great food and not pick up the textbook again for the next two days after finishing a major chemistry project. but this meant that he and mark were now supposed to leave.and he really was enjoying the alpha's company.but they had packed their stuff and after an intense verbal of who would pay the bill, mark actually just slammed his card on the cashier's table. it seemed like an alpha ego problem because donghyuck had seen jeno and jisung get irritated too if anyone else would pay in their group, despite chenle literally being the richest.
"do you want me to walk you home? it's quite late already,"
mark askeddonghyuck wanted to tell him to stop acting like this. because he really can't take the heartbreak that would come later.
before he could even answer, mark interrupted him,
"actually, i take back the question. it is really late and it's not safe for an omega to walk alone. i'll walk you home."donghyuck was going to melt.
the walk was silent, but comfortable. donghyuck didn't know why he felt so safe with the alpha. why his scent was so warm and not overpowering and why being next to him felt comfortable and not intimidating.
the delusional spirit in him was twirling around and the omega in him was dying to grab mark for a kiss.
the road was well lit but there weren't really many people, so they weren't necessarily walking on the pavement. donghyuck actually loved this. it somehow added to the intimacy of the situation.
he wondered if he should give up reading romance books because they were definitely adding to his delusion, because what if mark wasn't feeling the same?mark was just being friendly, of course he wouldn't feel the same,
he thought, but there was just a small flicker of hope in him.
he was so lost in his own thoughts that he didn't even notice when a car's headlights lit up the street and honked.
before he even realised it, mark grabbed his hand tightly and pulled him on the pavement, his body immediately coming way too close to the alpha's.
"oh my god, donghyuck, in what world are you living in? the car could have hit you,"
mark said but the omega didn't register anything.
mark was so close to him.mark was holding his wrist, and it was burning his skin.
mark lee, the man who was clouding his dreams everyday, the one donghyuck was dying to be touched by, the one whose body was in all his fantasies lately was so close to him.
donghyuck wanted to scream out of excitement.
"hey, are you okay?" mark asked again, breaking the spell,
"you're so lost in your own thoughts. is everything alright?""yeah, i am fine,"
donghyuck said, but his voice barely came out.he was now directly looking in mark's eyes. they were so gorgeous and boring holes in his with their intensity as if mark's entire focus was on him. he looked so concerned and donghyuck was so scared that he would end up acting on his impulses and kiss him.
was it even normal to feel like this towards someone you barely know?what if renjun was right about them being mates?but then he remembered mr lee, and how this wasn't right at all. so, he slowly seperated from mark, the imprint of his touch still there on his wrist, and the sensation still as strong.
"i am sorry, i have been really stressed about school work lately. failing chemistry and all,"
donghyuck lied.as they picked up pace again and started to walk, mark nodded, taking time to form words, "i understand that, but you should not worry yourself so much that you zone out while walking home. it could have ended badly."donghyuck didn't know what to say further, but mark didn't give him an option to when he continued,
"and listen to me donghyuck, i know we don't know each other very well. yes, despite us knowing all these random facts about each other, we don't know each other. but i am really sure that you're a great person, and very smart too. you understand everything very well when taught properly at your own pace, and you're working very hard to achieve great scores, and that's progress in itself."the omega felt like he was going insane."and please know, that everyone around you is proud of you. i am sure your parents are proud of you, your brother too and your friends as well. dad is proud of you for trying as well, he compliments you every day on the dinner table for getting better and better, and even i am proud of you for not escaping your problem but working on it,"
mark said as they neared his house.
donghyuck felt like he could cry.
all his life he had compared himself to taeyong and his greatness (he really loved his brother, but sometimes the insecurity ate him up). even his friends never failed in chemistry. and his parents were concerned about his future. but hearing mark affirm these things for him, he felt like he still held as much potential and would be able to do something in his life.
"thank you,"
he mumbled,
"i didn't know how much i needed to hear that."mark smiled, keeping his hand on donghyuck's shoulder,
"well, if you want me to repeat it, don't think twice before giving me a call. but please do not risk your life ever again by zoning out like that, alright?"donghyuck nodded
"use your words."
"yes mark, i promise. thank you."
and mark gave him one last smile before bidding him goodnight.

donghyuck shouted in his phone as the other omega called him for the fifteenth time since morning.the club owned by jaemin's parents was turning seven years old. in its celebration, they were throwing a grand party in it and jaemin had invited the whole group. well the whole group except jeno, but that's because they were still fighting, so it made sense.donghyuck was tired this week. all the studying, extra classes and of course, thinking about mark was really exhausting him and while he loved a gala once in a while, today was not the day."hyuckie, you cannot do this to me. you all promised me that you would come and my parents would be really upset if you don't show up,"
jaemin replied, and donghyuck could practically see his pout from the other line.he sighed,
"jaemin, i don't know. i am not really feeling it today."there was dead silence from the other line. donghyuck wondered if he had made the other too upset and was going to apologise once again.but then jaemin beat him to it as he said,
"i was not really going to pull this card since i wanted it to be a surprise, but if this it what it takes,"
he took a small gap of silence,
"mark is going to be there."donghyuck jolted straight from his bed to the floor and literally shouted,
"REPEAT THAT."he was so sure that jaemin was smirking at the other end of the line, maybe even praising himself for playing such a smart tactic,
"of course mark is going to be there. all his friends too. you might want to see him hyuck, outside of any academic setting."there was absolutely no way that donghyuck wasn't attending this party now. he could see mark and admire him without looking like a stalker and would be able to talk to him about things that don't involve a certain subject he dislikes."jaemin, sometimes i think i don't tell you enough how much i love you,"
he said, already opening his closet to decide his outfit."hyuck, can i ask a question?"
jaemin asked, a sudden change in his tone.

donghyuck noticed the tension in his voice. jaemin was really very close to jeno, so it definitely must be hurting him. but his obliviousness was completely blinding him whereas jeno too was doing too much with the possessive act without expressing himself.donghyuck thought they both were at fault in this."nana," he called out the older's nickname,

jisung warned his best friend,
"i am going to sit with jeno hyung."jeno might have shown up but he and jaemin still refused to see face to face. so it was expected of jisung to sit with his fellow alpha and give him company."whatever you and jeno are going through, fix it soon because i am not letting jisung sit with jeno's sulky ass the entire night,"
chenle said, pointing his finger at the party organiser.jaemin scoffed,

jaemin noticed the upset expression on his face,
"you know you can approach him in a friendly way, right? don't just assume things you don't know.""it's whatever,"
he replied. he took another glance at mark but to even more dismay, the alpha was actually now completely focused on jungwoo as they stood alone in the corner, laughing like crazy.donghyuck really regretted coming to this party. he should have stuck to doing his homework, hearing music and having a good night's sleep.but then he thought, why is he wasting a good evening on a man he isn't supposed to like in the first place?mark is not going to ruin his night.he stood up and decided to pry on more interesting events. such as jaemin and jeno's situation.jisung and jeno were looking at something on the latter's phone when he plopped down on the seat.
"sungie, chenle has already had three glasses. i think you should go and keep a checkk on him,"
he told the younger in order to get jeno alone.as the taller alpha left, donghyuck swung an arm around the other,
"jeno, you're absolutely no fun these days."
"what do you want hyuck. don't you have your own little crush to worry about."
"ouch, rude,"
donghyuck muttered at the mention of mark,

jeno scoffed. he really didn't want to confess until he was sure that jaemin too felt at least something because rejection hurts."well, i believe you should play the opposite trick. jaemin thinks you give only him attention and are an attention seeker. reverse it,"

"give everyone attention except him, might just drive him crazy."
jeno stared at donghyuck with blank expression. and then he cracked into a small smile,
"you are an evil freak."the omega whistled to himself as jeno walked away, seemingly getting on the plan. this was interesting. might just entertain others' love life since his was clearly getting nowhere.
"hey."
as he turned in the direction of the voice, he felt that same overwhelming feeling return. mark stood there, one hand in his pocket and smiling at him."hey mark, didn't see you here,"
he replied, supressing the enthusiasm in his voice that mark finally noticed him.before mark could say something, jungwoo walked to him, whispering something in his ear but it was still audible,
"hey, we're heading to the game zone. see you there."mark just nodded as jungwoo walked away, without even noticing donghyuck's presence. great his mood kept worsening.
"i wanted to tell you that you look g-"
"mark, i got to go. chenle must be looking for me, he is kind of drunk,"
donghyuck excused himself, without paying attention to whatever mark was saying.and donghyuck left without even hearing what mark had to say to him because he was so tired.

he had seen mark a few times the entire night after that. otherwise, jungwoo was all over him and mark kept reciprocating. it was literally burning the omega with jealousy.every time mark tried to approach him, he would walk in another direction or excuse himself in the name of his friends.but he was running out of them. renjun was busy making out with someone else in a corner. jisung had to take chenle home because the latter was drunk out of his mind.and jeno and jaemin were nowhere to be seen. where had they even gone?donghyuck drowned his sixth drink of the night. he knew he should have stopped at four but he couldn't.
"hey, do you want to dance?"
he turned around to see a man, much taller than him with bunny-like teeth and deep brown eyes. his voice was like silk aand honey.while his physique was like an alpha, his face more and less like a beta. he didn't smell like an alpha either."can i have your good name first?"

mark slipped a finger under his chin, lifting it up to meet his eyes,
"i am not going to ask again. why are you ignoring me?"donghyuck was going crazy. he wondered if these were actual psychotic symptoms. he was already planning a visit to the hospital because he didn't know if it was normal for his body to feel this hot without having a fever or being in heat.
"i don't know why you care, you have so many other people to give attention to,"
he replied, trying to act smart and sarcastic but the words came out more as feeble and made him sound nervous.

mark said, leaning back and getting a full view of donghyuck's face.
donghyuck tried to push mark with all the strength he had in him but in vain,
"you're again giving yourself too much importance mark, no one is getting jealous over you."not even donghyuck believed that, but he hoped mark would.
"yeah, you're not jealous?"
"absolutely not."
"so, i can go outside, dance with someone and kiss them, and it won't affect you at all?"
mark asked, his grip on the omega's neck tightening.

donghyuck scoffed, but internally he knew he would actually end up crying all night.

the expression on the omega's face when he realised that mark knew about his crush was so shocked, as if he had not given away all the clues and evidence, and mark found it so cute. he also found their positions so close that one move and mark would know how the student's lips taste. and they looked so tempting that mark was almost going to dive in, knowing that donghyuck would let him.
but then a bartender had interrupted them. they were yelled at for entering a room they were not authorised to and mark had to bribe him to not report it.
by the time he managed that, donghyuck had literally escaped out of his sight.he wondered if he should ask his friends, but he could not spot anyone. it was concerning him, and he was starting to grow worried but then he saw jaemin sitting at one of the stools all by himself at the bar. the omega looked so deep in thought and was just staring at an empty glass in front of him.
"jaemin! have you seen donghyuck?"
he asked, breaking jaemin's chain of thought.
to his surprise, jaemin literally jumped in his seat,

mark asked, noticing the weird behaviour,
"you were here the entire night, right? in this hall? did you see donghyuck leave just now?"jaemin looked so flustered as he stuttered to speak,

"dude, you're rambling... just tell me if you saw donghyuck."
jaemin was about to reply when his phone pinged,
"oh, it's a message from hyuck."mark didn't like the fact that jaemin was giving donghyuck a nickname, but he shrugged it off and focused on the screen.
'jaemin, great party! i had lots of fun and wanted to express this in person but i couldn't see you anywhere? anyways, i just remembered i had some chemistry homework to do so i left early. thank you for inviting me.'

he replied politely, walking towards one of the bookshelves and picking up the very first book that his eyes landed on.
his dad believed him and had already started focusing on checking donghyuck's work. when mark reached the door again, he turned around and saw that the omega was staring at him subtly.so, mark mouthed and pointed towards the roof,
"upstairs."donghyuck's eyes widened as if he was telling the alpha he was being insane.mark just smirked and mouthed,

he asked concerned"yeah, i experience dizziness after roller coasters. i get motion sickness on them,"

donghyuck couldn't help but yell,
"then why did you get on it on the first place?""you looked so excited, i didn't want to say no to you,"

mark whispered and there was no sight of humour in his tone.the ferris wheel was now nearing to the topmost view. the city looked so big and beautiful, completely sprawled in front of them with lights in buildings twinkling like stars. the whole amusement park was lit up in the brightest of shades and donghyuck wanted to capture this moment forever in his heart.he felt mark standing right next to him, their arms touching. he was so close."mark, you're standing too close to me,"
he tried to speak confidently but it only came out as a shaky whisper.

mark leaned against the glass,

he suggested, bringing his face closer. the smell of wooden pine was driving donghyuck insane now.and so, he couldn't muster the words in him to deny mark.thus, when the ferris wheel reached the top, mark leaned in to mould their lips against each other, savouring him completely. donghyuck held on his arm, clutching it like his life was dependent on him and moved his lips against the alpha.

were alright on his tongue but he just smiled and shrugged it off.a tinge of guilt engulfed him but he forgot about it the minute mark texted him again.mark had sent him some of the funniest reels and memes which he had laughed to all day and even forwarded them to his friends.this was feeling too cozy and intimate.mark had texted him good morning and he had replied. he got updates of everything that was going on in mark's day. he saw the coffee and sandwich mark had for breakfast. he recieved a picture of a car stuck in traffic, suggesting his whereabouts. he got a picture of mark's classroom that was captioned, 'boring class,' and he had sent back a similar picture.mark also showed him what he was having for lunch. he showed him pictures of his friend group and then proceeded to explain how he met each one of them, their personalities and their importance in his life.donghyuck had no idea you could learn so much about a person's life in one day. he learned that all of mark's previous relationships ended because of incompatible personalities' problems. he told him how his one and only relationship till now didn't work out because of long distance.they texted so much and then only stopped when mark gave him a call on monday at midnight.wrapped in his blankets with the dim moon shining through the curtains in his rooms, donghyuck felt chills down his spine as he picked up the call. it was just so intimate to call your crush at this hour.they didn't know how time passed again. one minute the clock had just struck twelve and they were shyly talking about their likes and dislikes. the next minute, it was already three and they were sharing their deepest fears and secrets to each other.mark had shared that he was extremely scared of time and how quickly it passes. how he is scared that he doesn't live a moment properly and would lose the people he has with him with no memories to cherish.donghyuck in return told him that he was very afraid of getting betrayed. he said the idea of getting attached to someone, only to get that trust broken horrified him.and mark had whispered silently thinking that donghyuck couldn't hear him,
"i won't betray you."and for some reason, donghyuck wanted to trust that. he questioned if it was possible to get this close to someone so quickly? it really made him wonder if they were actually mates.they spoke for another hour before mark fell asleep on call and donghyuck didn't hear any response from the other end. god he really needed to sleep as well.why was he even speaking to the alpha this much when they were going to meet the next day either way?and when he tried to lull himself to sleep, he concluded that there was just some insane magnetic pull towards mark that he really couldn't resist at all.maybe the alpha felt the same about him

he whined, throwing his arms back as he stretched.mark chuckled,
"you literally haven't attempted a single question correctly till now."

mark didn't respond. he kept his chin on his hand as he stared at the omega, his scent engulfing the room completely."what?"
donghyuck asked, feeling too small under the alpha's gaze now.

donghyuck didn't have to repeat himself twice because mark lifted his shirt, so slowly that it was painful to watch and let it fall on the ground.donghyuck was sure he was drooling now. mark's chest was so well defined with abs that he had an intense need to touch them.this was indeed how god intended for him to study chemistry."next question please,"
donghyuck whispered"how does electronegativity difference between atoms affect the polarity of a bond?"
mark asked and donghyuck swear he was going crazy with mark half naked next to him and talking about chemistry.donghyuck gulped,
"a large difference in electronegativity causes an unequal sharing of electrons, resulting in a polar bond with partial positive and negative charges."mark smiled, completely throwing the textbook off his lap before shifting to face donghyuck completely. he was sitting so close that the student knew he could reach out and kiss him in a matter of few seconds.mark dragged his thumb to donghyuck's lips with the latter being completely entranced.
the alpha clearly had the advantage of a few more centimetres in his height. so, it was almost cinematic to him how donghyuck had tilted his head slightly to look at him and looked dazed. the addition of his thumb lightly brushing the omega's lip made it even better.after few seconds of silence, mark smiled,
"sunshine, i think you can be a prodigy at chemistry if you're motivated correctly."
"well, i answered the question correctly, right? you cannot break the rule this time, mark."
"yeah, looks like i have to indeed follow it,"
mark grinned.but before his hands could even reach anywhere below his chest, the doorbell rung, completely pulling them away from their moment.mark stared at the wall clock. it was just eight twenty. his parents had come back, and even early at that."fuck, fuck, fuck. i am going to open the door, you stay here and put on your shirt,"
donghyuck rambled, standing up and walking off, feeling extremely annoyed and dejected.well yes, he had no right to feel annoyed, but he wished he could punch whoever disturbed this grand moment.he opened the door to see mr and mrs lee standing proudly with a smile and jaehyun behind them and immediately greeted all of them.mrs lee looked taken aback,
"donghyuck! why did mark make you answer the door? did he forget all about hospitality culture?"donghyuck nervously laughed,
"no ma'am, not at all. he was just busy checking my answers so i offered.""did you guys cover all the topics i assigned?"
mr lee asked, jumping straight to the main topic as he and donghyuck walked in the room where mark was sitting.the alpha had already put on his t shirt back, along with the glasses and rings and was pretending to be deeply engrossed in donghyuck's notebook."yes sir, we did,"
the younger omega replied. he wondered if mr lee was this scary while being an omega, how would things be if he was an alpha.mark stood up and greeted his father who asked him,
"i hope you taught my student well."the alpha politely smiled,
"yes, i even quizzed him and he answered everything correctly."

it hadn't even been twenty-four hours since mark had last seen donghyuck and he already felt insane. yeah, they had been texting, but he needed to feel him next to his own body. he had to wait another day before he could see him.
before mark could burst more braincells calculating every second he had to spend without seeing the omega, his phone pinged with a notification. and seeing his phone screen get lit never game him as much happiness before.
it was a text message from the one person that was constantly bugging his thoughts.

"my parents are doctors, mark. there is nothing like a holiday for them,"

"taeyong hyung goes to different museums on sundays. it's the only thing he does aside from working, working and working. and i was feeling completely fine in the morning when they all left."mark kept his hand on donghyuck's forehead to check his temperature, "you're
burning literally, did you check if you have a fever?""i don't have a fever,"
the omega pointed towards the thermometer kept at the coffee table.
mark was starting to feel uneasy with how donghyuck was smelling. the vannila scent, which is usually calming was now making him feel a bit overwhelmed. it was making him feel more aroused than concerned for the omega, almost like it was seductive on purpose.and then it clicked for mark as he uneasily asked,

donghyuck said, trying to stand up. but he was shivering now, and his body looked like it was burning with his scent's intensity multiplying tenfold.mark knew he shouldn't touch him, even if it's just to offer support. but seeing the omega so vulnerable, he couldn't help but extend his arm around his waist to help him stand up and walk. with every second, he felt his palm burn as they walked towards donghyuck's room.when he opened the door, he saw a room that completely matched with donghyuck's personality. it was classy, stylish but still had a lot of fun elements like gaming set ups and pictures. he couldn't look more into it because the said owner of the room was now completely leaning in his touch and making it harder for him to breathe."hyuck, you need to leave me, now... i really should go,"

the omega asked, his voice slightly cracking as he looked rejected and extremely upset at mark's words.the alpha cursed under his breath, caressing donghyuck's cheek to reassure him,

mark continued to caress the soft cheek of the tanned male, trying really hard to not give in, "this is... not right."but donghyuck had made up his mind and he was feeling more and more tensed and flustered as time was passing. it was so hard for him to not pounce on mark right at this moment because of how aroused he was getting due to his heat. he simply crossed his arms and rolled his eyes,
"well, in that case, you're free to leave. i have tons of other friends who would be more than willing to fuck me."mark felt blood rush to his veins at just the mere thought of some other alpha taking his precious sunshine. his hand that was earlier resting on the omega's waist was now wrapped around his neck,

"you're such a bad influence, sunshine."the omega didn't reply. he just continued to let out small whimpers at the tension. mark hadn't even done something major till now, and he was already reduced into a mess. the slick was getting too much now, and their scents had mixed with each other."mark, please,"
he whined, his voice coming out like he was fighting against air with how tensed the alpha had him."look at you, weren't you being a brat a few seconds back,"

donghyuck also donned a gold locket that shined against his tanned skin, especially illuminated by the evening orange sun that was admitting itself through the silk curtains of the room. mark pressed kisses on his stomach before moving upwards and then finally keeping the locket between his teeth to face donghyuck again and leaning into a kiss.
this kiss was much softer than the one they shared before. they were essentially melting into each other, chests touching and heaving. when mark broke away for air, donghyuck was quick to push him against the armchair again so his hands could get on unbuttoning his shirt.
the omega let out a small whimper upon seeing mark half naked in front of him again. yes, he had seen it before, but to see it when they were actually doing something and he was on his heat, yeah, it had him almost dying right on the spot. he slightly moved, and mark groaned right at that. the sound vibrated in his ear, and he needed to hear more and more of it.donghyuck cussed under his breath, thinking he was screwed, literally and figuratively.
mark felt his jeans get tighter, hands moving to grab the younger's hips, desperately searching for some sort of friction. the latter just rested his own head against his cheat, trying to muffle his moans but in vain because mark grabbed him by the neck again to lift his head so they could stare in each other's eyes.
