Work Text
The day had started wrong, frankly. Trevor had woken up late because his alarm didn't go off because his house had lost power overnight. He hastily dressed himself in the dark and stumbled around the kitchen, trying to find some sort of cereal. He couldn't even use his phone's torch because plugging his charger into the wall last night had, obviously, done nothing. He arrived at the Smosh Office almost an hour late, trying to laugh along with Ian's jabs about the younger generation having no sense of punctuality. His first shoot of the day went less than idealy.Trevor supposed that this type of job was a little weird. If you were even a little strange on camera, everyone would notice. And depending on who you're in a video with, they could exploit that for 'comedy'.Trevor tried as hard as he could to seem normal, but whether the fault was his own or his costars, the video was difficult. He stuttered, his jokes were ill-timed, everyone talked over him, and it turned out he was rubbish at the game they were playing. He swore he could feel everyone's eyes on him as he made his way toward his desk.He wasn't sure what was happening. He was sweating, but his hands were freezing. His chest felt tight but also vulnerable. The lights were too bright, the noises too loud.He wasn't sure where he was going, but he knew he had to get away. Something was wrong and it would be far too embarrassing to pass out in front of the whole office. His feet followed the familiar path to Josh's office of their own accord. It was empty when he found it, so he shut the door behind him and sank to the floor. If he had been of sounder mind, he would have flipped the lights off.His breath was coming out in short, desperate bursts, and he dug the heels of his hands into his eye sockets to quell his raging headache. He vaguely felt his hands move upwards to grasp his hair, but the majority of his attention was aimed at the pounding in his head.He wasn't sure how long he'd been there.Everything. Hurt.Somewhere in the back of his mind, he told himself it would never end. He would he stuck in this tortuous purgatory forever. He couldn't help the whimper that escaped him as he tightened his grip on his hair, attempting to localise his pain and have some control over it.His hands were pulled away from his head gingerly, but forcefully. He opened his eyes to find that the lights had been turned off, but he could still make out the vague form of Josh."You okay, Trev?" Josh whispered. Trevor's eyes filled with tears as he looked up at him. Josh wordlessly sat against the wall next to Trevor, wrapping an arm around him and pulling him closer. He held Trevor close while he sobbed, letting him take as much time as he needed to recover.Once Trevor had his breathing under control, he moved to break away from Josh."Do you want to tell me what happened?" Josh asked kindly."It just... I don't know," Trevor admitted. "I was fine and then... everything was too much." He sniffed, wiping his eyes roughly."You were probably overstimulated. It triggered a panic attack." Josh explained gently. Trevor buried his head in his hands, exhaling forcefully. "It can happen to anyone, bud. It's nothing to be embarrassed about.""Yes it is," Trevor groaned, dropping his hands. "It's so stupid. Everyone else can manage to behave normally, why can't I? What's wrong with me?""It's not fair, Trev. I know. But there's nothing 'wrong with you'." Josh said earnestly. Trevor stayed quiet so Josh continued, "Processing the world differently is not your fault. And I'm sorry you have to deal with this.""I just hate that you have to deal with it too. I shouldn't have come to your office." Trevor whispered."I don't have to deal with you. I get to. And I wouldn't have it any other way." Josh replied."On God?" Trevor asked tearfully. Josh couldn't help but laugh, nodding and pulling Trevor into an awkward hug from their place on the floor."Okay?" Josh asked. Trevor nodded, already heafting himself to his feet and offering a hand to Josh. They shared another hug before Trevor decided he was of sound enough mind to return to work."Hey!" Spencer shouted, running over as soon as he saw Trevor. "Where you been? You okay?""Yeah I'm good." Trevor replied, gathering that his eyes were still red based on Spencer's brief suspicious squint."Okay, well, if you want to be in the next games video, Tommy can't make it today," Spencer offered. "You're a natural comedian and I've heard you're pretty good at multilayer puzzle games, so the spot's yours if you want it."Trevor smiled, not knowing he needed to hear that today, but glad Spencer had said it. He nodded, letting Spencer yap about the game as they walked toward the studio.
