Kakashi stared at his new team.
Uchiha Obito was loud, practically begging for attention. He was noisy but also bubbly, which reminded Kakashi of Auntie Shiroko. He hated him.
Nohara Rin, on the other hand, was calm. She smiled with her mouth closed, but it never reached her eyes. Kakashi didn’t have strong feelings for her, but she was kind enough, healing their wounds with gentle touches and a sympathetic gaze. She reminded him of his father.
(He tried to forget the awful squelch of blood on the tatami made when he finally found the strength to step closer.)
He didn’t have any particular thoughts about Minato-sensei. He had known him since before his father died. The man had a warmth about him that was rare for shinobi. He made sure Kakashi had a home when the compound stopped providing water and light. He treated Kakashi like a kid, even though he was smart enough to handle more, which annoyed him at times. But he understood why.
Minato-sensei smiled often; it was hard to remember a time he didn’t. Yet, like Rin, sometimes his smiles didn’t reach his eyes. The only times Kakashi had seen him without a smile were when some civilian called Kushina-nee a “monster.”
(He tried not to think about how that same civilian died later that night in his own home.)
Kakashi sighed as he watched Sensei correct Obito’s movements.
He couldn’t help snorting, thinking back to when he first learned that move. He got it right on the first try.
(He determinedly didn’t look at how low Sensei’s hands went while he was correcting Obito.)
Sighing again, one thought came to him.
What a drag.
They were at Ichiraku Ramen today.
Kakashi leaned against the counter, watching as the rest of his team finished their bowls.
Obito let out a bright laugh at something Rin said, and Kakashi sighed, closing his eyes for a moment.
“Obi-chan, you have something on your face.”
The teasing lilt in Minato-sensei’s voice caught his attention, though there was an underlying edge to it. Kakashi peeked up at them with one eye half-open.
Obito pouted in confusion, and Kakashi had to stop himself from glancing at his plush lips, slick with oil from the ramen. He caught a glimpse of Sensei and hesitated; it seemed he wasn’t the only one staring. He quickly lowered his gaze.
(He tried to push aside the nagging feeling that something wasn’t quite right.)
“H-Huh? But Sensei ah—!”
Kakashi looked up again, just in time to see Sensei’s hand swiping away some lingering oil from the corner of Obito’s mouth.
(Ignoring how Sensei’s hand lingered just a bit longer than necessary.)
“There, good as new!” Minato-sensei declared cheerfully.
“Now!” he continued, clapping his hands together, “We must…”
Kakashi listened with one ear as the older man spoke, glancing at Rin. She wore her usual smile, but today it didn’t reach her eyes.
(He tried not to dwell on how her smile seemed more strained and how her eyes appeared harder than usual.)
They were on a mission, and it was going terribly.
Kakashi felt utterly exhausted, and Rin was in the same boat.
Obito had done his best to help, but without a Sharingan, he was limited. It didn’t help that Sensei refused to let him leave the camp. When Rin tried to argue that they needed all the help they could get, Kakashi watched as Minato’s eyes hardened and his smile turned emptier.
“He’s a clan kid and weak. We are at war. He will become a liability if they capture him.”
Kakashi thought that excuse was weak and made no sense at all. He was a clan kid too.
(The voice in his head snarled, “What clan, boy?”)
When Obito finally managed to persuade Sensei to let him join the fight, both he and Rin sighed in relief.
But that relief quickly faded when Obito got injured, and Sensei panicked, insisting he sleep in his tent for the remainder of the mission.
(He frowned as Rin worked to heal both of their injuries after Sensei hurried Obito to his tent. He opened his mouth to speak to her, but she shook her head. They had all been injured.)
It was night, and the cold seeped into the tent. He and Rin shared a sleeping bag for warmth, he had a soft blush on his cheeks as he stared at her sleeping face, she was gentle and comforting.
(He closed his eyes and pressed his hands over his ears, trying to block out the sound of whimpering.)
Obito was staring out the window, watching the birds as they flew by.
Kakashi couldn’t help but think that he had been doing that a lot lately.
He was also becoming more distant, and Kakashi didn’t blame him. When they returned from the mission, they found out that Obito’s grandmother had passed away from old age.
(He frowned as he watched Minato’s larger figure wrap around Obito’s smaller one. Obito was crying, and Sensei whispered soft, comforting words to him. His hand was gentle as they wiped away the boy's tears, the other resting on his hip.)
(He caught a glimpse of Rin’s flash of anger, her lips pinched tight, before she quickly turned back to a gentle smile.)
Sensei was speaking animatedly, with Kushina-nee sitting right across from him. She had just returned from an A-rank mission on the front lines, and it was clear that she was exhausted. Kakashi felt for her; if he was tired after that C-rank mission, he couldn’t even begin to imagine how she felt.
(Maybe that was why she didn’t notice Sensei’s hand slipping under the table or Obito’s steadily reddening face and tear-filled eyes.)
He had been looking for his kunai when he stumbled upon it.
Lately, he and Obito had grown closer. Little moments of meeting up, blushing faces, and the occasional hand-holding. They weren’t a couple, but it was something close to it.
He was halfway away from Minato-sensei’s home, when he realized he had forgotten it.
When he came back, the house was quiet—until a strangled moan broke the silence.
He froze.
(He fought the urge to cover his ears.)
Then came the sound of something wet, followed by a sharp smack.
“My perfect slut,” Sensei’s voice murmured.
Kakashi’s breath hitched.
There was a whine, then a gasp.
(He hadn’t even realized when he had crept closer, his eye now peeking through the crack in the door.)
Obito was there. His legs were spread wide as Sensei fucked into him. It looked like it hurt. Obito’s pretty face was twisted in pain as he cried. Small sobs wracked through the boy's chest as Minato-sensei manhandled him in a presenting position. He looked at Sensei’s cock and felt intimidated for Obito. It was large and thick and looked an angry red, with veins bulging as it twitched.
He paused and his eyes widened in shock. Obito did not have a penis like him or Minato-sensei, but a small slitted opening just like Rin and Auntie Shiroko.
He watched, pale-faced as sensei spread open his cunt, and slammed inside. There was a slick plop and squelch as sensei entered, Obito’s face screwed in pain, mouth open, but not making a sound.
It looked sick. It was sick.
Here, Kakashi stood as his teammate getting fucked by their sensei.
It looked so rough. The way Sensei grabbed Obito’s plush hips and violently dragged him back on his cock. He winced as Obito shrieked, and looked as sensei snaked an arm around Obito and rub his clit, making Obito arch and spasm for a minute as he squirted.
Kakashi took a step back, his breathing growing faster, almost panicked. He wanted to help Obito—he really did—but fear gripped him tight. What could he possibly do against Minato-sensei? The same man who had raised him and who had always shown him nothing but kindness.
He felt torn between the loyalty he had always known and the desperate need to protect Obito.
When he took a step forward, intending to fight, Kakashi froze when he looked up and saw Sensei staring right at him. Those usually light, kind eyes were now dark, and a wide, unnatural grin stretched across his face.
Panic surged through Kakashi’s body. He took a shaky step back—then turned and fled.
(He ignored the sounds of flesh on flesh and moans as he left)
(He also ignored the tent in his pants)
Obito was quiet again.
His eyes didn’t sparkle like they used to, and Rin’s smiles felt more fake than real these days.
Minato-sensei was missing more and more as the war dragged on, needed at the frontlines. Kakashi was joining him more often now, too.
They were in Rin’s backyard, sitting in her little garden.
Obito had been looking sick lately like he was going to throw up more often than he could keep food down.
He had his head resting in Kakashi’s lap, his face buried close, and Kakashi tried hard not to think too much about the soft lips that hovered near his thigh.
Kakashi stayed silent as Rin talked about the kind of world she dreamed of. She wanted kids, wanted to be the strongest medic-nin anyone had ever seen. Her eyes were wide, her smile real for the first time in months, and her cheeks were flushed with excitement.
In that moment, Kakashi thought she was the most beautiful person he had ever seen. Even more beautiful than Auntie Shiroko.
When he glanced down, he saw Obito smiling softly at Rin, eyes full of warmth. Then, Obito glanced up at him, and his smile grew wider, crinkles forming at the corners of his eyes.
Kakashi couldn’t help but smile too. It was small, almost invisible, but it was there.
When he saw it, Obito let out a happy squeal and threw himself into Kakashi’s arms, pressing a sweet kiss to his lips. It wasn’t rough like Sensei’s; it was soft, gentle.
Rin laughed, startled but delighted, and she quickly joined them, covering their faces with kisses, laughing as they tumbled together in a pile, with Kakashi stuck at the bottom.
He looked up at them, their faces flushed, their smiles bright, and at that moment, Kakashi thought to himself, I love them both.
Kakashi stared at his team.
Nohara Rin was quiet, her face hard like stone. She didn’t smile anymore. He loved her, and it broke his heart to see her like this. She still cared, but the warmth in her words was gone. When she healed them, her hands were rough, covered in scars and callouses. She reminded him of Uncle Ryouya now, tough and distant.
His thoughts about Minato-sensei were filled with anger. He’d known him for a long time, and now he saw him as cold, someone pretending to be warm. When he thought of shinobi, his first thought was Minato. He stayed in that quiet, empty compound, now that he had the money to leave Minato-sensei's apartment behind. Kakashi wasn’t sure who his Sensei was anymore.
And Obito... his space was empty. Too quiet. Kakashi wished for noise, for that burst of energy that Obito always brought. He wished Obito would come out from behind the trees, yelling “Surprise!” in that sweet, naive voice of his. He wanted to see him smiling again, lighting up everything around him. His throat tightened, and his chest felt heavy. He loved him.
Kakashi swallowed down the bitterness rising in his throat, feeling the weight of Sensei’s gaze on him—the same look he used to give Obito.
He let out a shaky breath.
(He closed his eyes. Obito’s eye seemed to burn in its place.)
Rin stared at Sensei, her expression hard, lips pressed into a hateful line.
(Kakashi was good at ignoring things, he realized.)
