Awsten was sitting on his couch, a hot chocolate in his hands, relishing the few hours of free time he had after a horrible shift at work. He decided to watch halloween to get himself in the mood for the upcoming season.He started drifting off to sleep an hour or so into the movie. He tried to keep himself awake so he wouldn't leave the tv on again like last time. He blinked several times, eyes heavy with tiredness. Suddenly as he blinked he saw a shadow run across his living room in front of his tv."Yep time for bed" Awsten thought, getting up from his seat and turning the tv off. He put his dishes in the sink, deciding he'll wash them tomorrow when he got home from work.He went to his bathroom to wash up, he brushed his teeth lazily feeling more fatigued than ever ever. Awsten looked at himself in the mirror, his previously vibrant purple hair was now a shade of lavender with his naturally brown hair growing out at the roots, his blue and green eyes looked dull and wore large bags under them. Stubble covered his lower jaw as he hadn't found time to shave recently."God I look like a mess" Awsten muttered. He looked behind him in the mirror, he saw a large dark shadowy figure sitting in his bathtub. Awstens eyes went wide with fear, he quickly spun around but nothing was there. "What the hell was in that hot chocolate" he said, his heart nearly beating out of his chest.He went to bed still feeling spooked but falling asleep eventually.Awsten jumped awake, startled by his alarm, he groaned, turning his alarm off. He got up unwillingly and walked to the kitchen to get a glass of orange juice. Awsten drank his oj, ate a slice of toast and scrolled on the god forsaken app that is twitter.Awsten got dressed in his work uniform before hopping in his car and driving to work, listening to 'the rise and fall of a Midwest Princess' by Chappell roan as he drove.Awsten psyched himself up in his car before finally walking in the coffee shop he works at, ready to get yelled at by customers for 'getting their order wrong' even though he made exactly what the told him they were just to busy on their phone to notice they said the wrong order."Hey Awsten!" His co-worker and boyfriend Geoff said as he got behind the counter. "Hi"
Awsten responded, smiling with a blush creeping onto his face. "Oooooooo" Jawn, Awstens other co-worker said mockingly, making kissing sounds as well."Shut up. we've been dating for a year and a half now, shouldn't you be over this period now." Awsten laughed rolling his eyes, giving Jawn a light punch in the forearm.Awstens day went slow compared to others, it was a Thursday after all. The busiest times of his day being 9am-10am and 1pm-2pm. He got yelled at by 2 customers but luckily his boyfriend was there to stop him from going to jail for murder."Hey Aws, do you wanna go out on Saturday, like on a date?" Geoff asked, blushing and stumbling over his words a little. "Dude you'd think a year into this you'd be better at asking me on a date. Of course I'll go out with you, like on a date" Awsten mocked slightly.The two laughed together and talked until they finally decided it was time to go, giving each other a peck on the lips before leaving. Awsten felt giddy driving home, happy about every moment he gets to spend with his boyfriend.It was already getting dark despite only about 5:30. Awsten was wearing his glasses but clearly he needed a new prescription because he almost didn't see the hunched over figure in the middle of the road.Awsten swerved, crashing his car into a tree leaving it totalled. He sat there for a few seconds shaking. He wasn't hurt at all, just scared. He slowly got out of his car to look at the creature that caused this accident.The creature was hunched over a dead deer eating it's guts, it was the same creature Awsten had thought he hallucinated the day prior but this time Awsten got a better look at it.It looked like a big shadow with red piercing eyes, long sharp claws and sharp teeth with blood oozing from them. It growled at him then changed into a cloud of black smoke descending into the sky."Something is seriously wrong with me" Awsten panted out, turning around to see the damage done to his car. "God dammit". Awsten pulled out his phone to call Geoff to pick him up and drop him off at his apartment. He decided not to tell his boyfriend the truth about what he saw yet, instead opting on just telling Geoff that he was being a reckless driver.That same night Awsten woke up in the middle of it to see s person sitting on his desk chair. Awsten sat up quickly, terrified that there was a random person in his room.But it wasn't a person. The thing resembled Awsten in a way but also the large creature that had been tormenting Awsten. It had pale grey skin, red hair that matched it's red eyes and black eye bags. It had black sharp claws and it's ears were pointed like that elf thing that Geoff was obsessed with.He must be dreaming. Maybe he hit his head when he crashed and just didn't notice. Awsten gave himself a hard slap, that definitely hurt his head but also confirmed that he was in fact not dreaming.The thing looked up at him, confused. "Why did you do that?" It asked, multiple voices speaking at once though all barley above a whisper. "What are you. Who are you" Awsten questioned. "I guess I'm a demon, I'm definitely treated as one. You can call me soul if you'd like" the thing - soul answered."There's a lot of things I'd like to call you but I'm too scared to right now" Awsten shivered with fear. "I won't hurt you and I didn't mean to hurt you or scare you earlier either. I'm sorry" Awstens fear started to fade. Soul no longer appeared as a scary flesh eating demon, but rather a lost child."It's okay, can I go back to sleep now please?" Awsten remembered he had work tomorrow and suddenly that was the scariest thing. Soul disappeared into smoke again giving Awsten a little peace at mind.Awsten awoke to that same annoying alarm as always. He walked into the kitchen to see Soul sitting on his kitchen counter fidgeting with its claws."Why are you hear?" Awsten had so many questions, one of them being about his sanity. "I don't know, I just showed up hear one day" Soul answered. "Is God finally striking me down" Awsten joked. Soul just looked up at him. "Tough crowd" Awsten muttered going to get his orange juice.Awsten finished getting ready for work, gathering his thoughts on the whole ordeal. "Hey can you stay here for the day, I don't want you wreaking havoc while I'm gone. Just do whatever it is demons do to entertain themselves that doesn't involve murder.Over the next few weeks Awsten came to terms with his new life, basically adopting Soul as a indoor cat. His friends even got to know Soul a little though it took a little longer for them to warm up to it than Awsten did. Maybe there's just something wrong with Awsten.
