Scully’s heart raced as she stood in front of her mother’s door, her hand trembling slightly. She had always been the strong, composed one, but this time the weight of the news she carried threatened to overwhelm her. Taking a deep breath, she knocked, steeling herself for the conversation that was about to unfold.The door swung open, and Maggie’s warm smile quickly faded as she took in the expression on her daughter’s face. “Dana, what’s wrong? Are you okay?” she asked, her voice laced with concern.Scully swallowed hard, her eyes brimming with unshed tears, “No, I’m not okay…I…I really need to talk to you mom,” she said, her voice barely above a whisper.Maggie ushered her daughter inside, guiding her to the living room and gently pushing her down onto the couch, “Why don’t you tell me what’s wrong.”Scully took a moment to gather her thoughts, her hands clasped tightly in her lap. “It’s Mulder,” she began, her voice wavering, “He’s gone…he’s missing.”Maggie’s eyes widened in shock, she them reached out to take Scully’s hands into her own. “What do you mean missing, what happened?”“We were working on a case, in fact we went back to a town in Oregon where we had our first case together. Anyway, there were some strange things happened again but Mulder didn’t want me to return back so he went back with Skinner but then…” This was the hard part to explain to her mother, she mostly kept her mother in the dark relating to the cases she and Mulder investigated.“But then what?” Maggie was worried about Dana, she has never seen her this lost before.“Mulder was taken…just like I was years ago.” Scully said breaking down even farther.“Oh Dana.” Maggie pulled Scully into a tight hug, “You’re going to get through this and I know you will found him.”Scully pulled back a little knowing there was one more thing she needed to tell her mother, “Mom, there is something else I need to tell you. Something very important.”Maggie was getting scared at what more Dana had to tell her, “Dana, you can tell me anything. I’m here for you.”“I’m…I’m pregnant.” Scully whispered, still having trouble processing that one piece of news she gotten in the last couple of days.Shock, surprised, and happy, Maggie asked, “How? I thought that you couldn’t have any children.”“Um, several months ago Mulder confess to me about founding and keeping my ova. So I took them to a specialist to see if there was a possibility I could get pregnant. The doctor said there was a good chance through IVF, so I asked Mulder to be the donor and he said yes.”Maggie broke into the story to ask, “Just a second Dana, you and Fox were trying to have a baby through IVF and you didn’t tell me?”“Mom, I didn’t want you to get your hopes up if it didn’t work out.”“Obviously it worked.”“It didn’t work, mom. I found out I’m pregnant the day Mulder went missing three days ago.”“I don’t understand.”“Mom, Mulder and I stop the process when our last shot didn’t work out. Since then about four months ago our relationship has shifted into something more personal.”Maggie had to laugh a little at that, knowing both Dana and Fox were in love with each other. Scully looked at her mother with some confusion, “Dana, honey your relationship with Fox has always been personal…it’s called being in love.”Scully was taken back by her mother’s statement, “What do you mean by that?”“It means, Dana that you and Fox have been secretly in love with each other but finally admitted to each other.”“How did you know?” Scully was shocked as she was coming into terms of the changes between her and Mulder, finally admitted to being in love with each other.“I have seen you two both throughout the years, plus Fox was totally lost without you when you went missing and then later him dealing with her cancer. And I have seen the changes in you when you were with Fox and the way you light up talking about him even when he makes you mad.”Scully laughed at that knowing how true that statement was and instant felt sadness, “God, mom I need him here with me…I miss him so much.”“Oh sweetie, I know but I know you and you will found him.” Maggie said as she pulled Scully back into a hug as Scully cried. “You’re going to get through this and I will help along the way and you are going to found him.” Maggie said with such conviction that Scully started to believe she will found him.“I have to.” Scully whispered, thinking of their unborn child she is carrying.“Why don’t you stay here for tonight.”“Okay and thank you mom for your support.”“Anytime Dana.”As Scully settled in her childhood bed she thought of the last time she had seen Mulder before he left for Oregon with Skinner.
After making plans to go back to Oregon with Skinner, Mulder and Scully left the FBI building to go to Mulder’s apartment for him to pack again and a chance for them to be alone. Scully was sitting on Mulder’s bed watching him pack with a worry expression on her face.
“Mulder, I should be the one going back with you.”
Mulder stop packing to walk to Scully and then kneeled down in front her, “Scully we talked about time, I can’t risk you being taken again…I can’t go through that again.”
“What about the risk you’re taking?”
“I promise I will be careful. But I need you safe here…it’s like I said this has to end now.”
Scully starts to take off her cross and put it around Mulder’s neck.
“Scully?”
“If I can’t be with you physically then I can at least be with you spiritually. Plus I know this gave you strength when I was missing.”
Mulder stared deeply into Scully’s eyes, “Thank you and I will be back.”
Scully bend down for a kissed and then pulled back, “Make love to me.”
“Oh Scully, I don’t have that much time.”
“I don’t care.”
“But I do, you deserve all the time in the world.”
“I’ll take what I can get, please.”
“Okay.” Mulder said knowing he couldn’t tell her no.
Soon they shed their clothes and moved into the bed to make love.
They were staring in each other eyes as they slowly made love to each other, just before they both came Mulder whispered, “I love you, Scully.”
Scully whispered back, “I love you too, Mulder. Please be careful and don’t do something stupid.”
“Hey, Scully I will be back.”
Scully gently was wiping her tears as she came back to the present. She thought about Mulder’s promise of coming back to her and hope it will happen and soon for their unborn child. But until then she will continue to look for him.
