Dont You Remember Me

Work Text

It started when Gardenview stopped getting human visitors. The children stopped coming, so there was no one to teach. Their caretakers also stopped coming, so they had to fend on their own. And they had to meet freaky versions of themselves. Other than Dandy (who seemed to have expected this), the toons noticingly became depressed without nothing to do other than survive. They started to ignore Finn, Teagen, and Gigi the most though, but they just shrugged it off as them being unsociable. Teagen hosts tea therapy parties now and then, since their usual therapist (Brightney) was unavailable to them as much as they wanted to talk to her. It was like something was keeping them from being seen... "You know, I saw Flutter actually looking at me once with Tisha following after," Teagen said at the tea party, breaking Gigi's thoughts. "That's great, Tea," Gigi replied, smiling, while drinking her black tea. "Oh, maybe th' others ar'n't ignorin' us aft'r all!" One day, on a scheduled tea party, Teagen started ignoring them (just a little) too. It was getting weird now, due to the mood already being lifted these past few months. Sometimes she notices them, sometimes she interacts with them. She still hosts tea parties though. One time, Tisha came in during their usual tea party, saying Teagen was needed for something (probably Toodles in the kitchen again). It wasn't until that Gigi lifted her cup to awkwardly drink from the background did Tisha notice her. "Why hello, Brightney," she added, "aren't you supposed to be in book club?" "Ehm, Tish', that's not Brih'gney-" "Oh yes! Silly me! I better get going you two," Gigi joked, lifting her voice a little to match Brightney's voice. "Right. And Teagen, please come with me- quickly." Gigi's face lowered a little when she realized Tisha was being serious. She watched them go out of the door, before Finn spoke up, "ehm, tea f'r ur thoughts?" Finn seemed to copy Teagen after that, leaving Gigi the only one that cannot interact with the rest.  Brightney was a bit suspicious of seeing her döppelgänger standing outside her doorway (creating a huge shadow you would see in cartoon comedy shows. Brightney wonders why the head is round..), but she just blamed this encounter on sleep. Maybe döppelgängers need therapy too, and Gardenview damn well could use two lamps, so Brightney suggested to her twin(?) that she should join a run. "Best you start tomorrow, I," she yawned a little, "doubt anyone is up this hour..." The next morning, Gigi finished the last machine in a run, not expecting Goob to pull Gigi in. They were all confused, and patted Brightney in the back instead of Gigi. "So much for including everyone in the team," she remarked. As the run went on, Brightney died to a slip-up Goob made, and when Gigi finished last machine, they praised Scraps instead. Her eye twitched in frustration. Then after that, it was Shelly- "OK THIS IS GETTING RIDICULOUS NOW!" Gigi bursted out of nowhere. Only Finn looked her way. "Shelly doesn't even have red! Beige is in an entirely different color spectrum than red! What'd I even do to be treated like this?!" Sheepishly, Finn muttered to her quietly, so the others wouldn't hear them despite the loud chatter, "well Gigi, not to be rude- and uh- ya see- it was prob'bly 'cause of your stamina n' stuff that they m'stook you for Shel-" When the elevator door opened, Gigi, the usually cool-headed toon, stormed off to go find a machine. Until a loud splatter was heard from Finn's ears. "Hey! Did Goob die?!"  At this point, Gigi felt like it was day 1 all over again, so she decided to visit one of her (maybe not anymore) best friends. Of course, when Poppy opened the door, she only stared blankly, as if looking at the wall behind Gigi. "Uhh, Poppy? Can we talk?" Silence. "Listen, I know you and the others are like, totally avoiding me right now, but I'm willing to own up to whatever I did to upset you- you guys." Gigi's ego twinged a little. Poppy squinted, which gave Gigi hope that maybe the silent treatment is over. That was until Gigi saw the small, slightly red eyebags under Poppy's eyes. Looking more closely, she saw that Poppy was holding a portait of Gigi and her together. It was them sharing a sundae together 2 years ago. "Ugh, another ding-dong-ditch," Gigi heard her say in a raspy voice before slamming the door in her face. "Don't you... Remember me..?"

Lately, I has been working on another case, other than the ichor incident. Things have been going missing.

Multiple couches were messy right after those were tidied up (those were complaints from Tisha), 2 tubs of ice cream had been completely emptied out from the kitchen freezer- ("I need those for my dramatic monologues to Boxy!" A particular mirror shouted angrily).

Even a guest room(?)'s plushies has been stolen. Who knows, what if someone needs them?
Gigi chuckled at the last one, assuming Rodger was making a pathway for Toodles to ask for another stuffed animal. She was sitting on Rodger's work desk, dangling her feet enough that it won't disturb anything in the room, and that it would relieve some tension from her. Rodger wouldn't have allowed anyone to sit on any table of sorts, but since Gigi was practically wearing an invisibility cloak (she's been reading fantasy novels lately), she didn't need to worry about that. The clock ticked as each minute was passing by. It's midnight (this reminds her of that one scene from her current book) and usually she would be ushered to her room to sleep by some hypocritical toon. But this was Rodger's room, and they don't disturb the senior-coded toons from whatever they're doing. Most of the time. As she watched Rodger's neat handwriting scribble furiously across the paper until the clock finally strikes 12. He paused, his eye widening like he had a revelation, staring and rereading at the paper over and over again, his pupil moving slowly. "Oh, she is SO in trouble," he whispered in a parent way that doesn't know if they should punish a child, or leave it to the other parent. Gigi leaned in to read the paper, "who is?" Rodger almost jumped out of his skin.  Of course, Gigi has been 'grounded' for aaaaall the trouble she did. Of course, she wasn't locked in her room (that would be inhumane despite being a toon), but she still got restrictions to runs, even stricter time arrangements to come to meals on time (she actually has to go and force herself to talk to others! What a nightmare!) She has to go to sleep earlier than the other toons. Gigi thinks Brightney noticed how her eyes have been drooping, and how she hasn't been putting on heavy mascara lately. That felt like a concern for her well-being rather than a punishment. Gigi appreciates that. Despite Poppys obliviousness to what she did, she changed her body language to be a little more sorry to Gigi, noticing the gachapon trying to avoid her. At her last session, Gigi revelaed he truth to Brightney on why she felt under the weather lately. She had that 'I don't believe you, but I'll pretend I do so you would feel better' face after Gigi finished. That convinced her to keep what happened the last 8 months to herself from now on. After that, everytoon noticed that the gap between Teagen, Finn, and her got a lot shorter.
