“I’m your friend, Kara.”
She hated how Lee kept playing that card. Kept reminding her of that.
They were anything
but friends. Whatever there was between them, it was more than just friendship. And she knew that he knew that.
So she didn't know why he kept emphasizing that fact. She supposed it was so she knew that he cared about her. To remind her that he was there for her. In which way, romantic or platonic, she supposed it didn't matter with what he was trying to get across.
But it still annoyed her and for no good reason.
Maybe it was because she wanted him to tell her he loved her and to spill out his guts because then maybe it would convince her to do the same instead of pushing her feelings to the side like she's gotten so good at doing.
Maybe she wanted a confession rather than just a “I'm your friend.” Maybe she wanted to feel like someone loved her again, for once.
That she was capable of being loved in more than just a platonic way. That Zak hadn't been and wouldn't remain the only one.
And maybe so it would make him kissing her impulsively make sense. Give a reason, an explanation, even though he didn't owe her one.
But they hadn't talked about that at all and she figured it was probably on purpose, though she had wanted to talk about it. Something, anything, that would finally allow them to discuss their feelings and ask where do we go from here?
Something that would prove and confirm they were more than just friends like he kept reminding her.
And despite how she had just gotten back from Caprica which had been a bit of a hell, the only thing she could think about now was Lee. And her. Them. Whatever they were.
It wasn't that she didn't appreciate the fact that Lee cared about her. It was just she wanted to hear I love you not I'm your friend. And she didn't even fully know why.
While it was because she had feelings for him and was more in love with him than she'd ever admit, she didn't really want to tell herself that. It made her feel desperate and needy, and those she usually strived to be the opposite of.
But Gods, she had liked him for so long and she knew he liked her for just as long so she was just fed up now. They've had years to confess their feelings and now was as good a time as they'd ever get.
So, she found him in the pilots' barracks, thankfully alone, and she bluntly asked him, giving him a challenging sort of look, “why'd you kiss me, Lee?”
He was about to reply but she didn't let him as she added pointedly, “Tell me the truth.”
They stared at each other for a moment before she bit her lip, letting herself become vulnerable as she whispered, “please.”
