Work Text

They couldn't control themselves, no one could. They were lost and were never coming back.
Eyes of dark green pierced her own hazelnut, widening as it realised what she was. Its hand, skeletal like, was thrown at the window, with a large thud. Nails of pure metal ran down, leaving long claw marks etched into the glass. Repeating and repeating the action, it's second hand thudding into the glass, doing nothing but harm to itself. Bones were clear to the human eye and was a disgusting sight. But it was all she could see, she was trapped as the creature tried to break into her phone box. How stupid she had been to try and leave the house, getting killed was one thing, getting mistaken as one of the creatures was another but being bitten by one, that would have been the worst. Cracks were creeping onto the glass as it began to get closer to its meal. Nose twitching at the smell of human, its hair flying in the wind, tangles falling into its buldging eyes. Her heart beat rapidly, knowing this was the last chance she'd get at speaking to someone before getting eaten or turned into a monster. So she turned her back on the creature, gulping, and dialed a number. Any number and kept her eyes on the phone, not daring to look back as the cracking of glass came from behind her.

----- CHAPTER BREAK -----

It was on a rampage. Running between the buildings and bouncing over the abandoned cars, the creature was searching for…for…Easter is supposed to be a time for joy and happiness, a time that you spend with family, a time to eat loads of chocolate and not get judged for it- not a time to run and hide. I had accidently cracked the laws of crossbreeding, my sweet pet rabbit with the monkey that had an alcohol addiction from the local zoo. I only meant to create a beautiful beast that could help humanity, learn and adapt from it. Not this. This two-legged, floppy eared, razor-sharp teeth creature.I admit it was a mistake, just thinking of it was stupid and reckless but here we are...Half our population eaten or crushed by the weight of the ‘thing’ and the rest, hiding or acting dead so it leaves them alone. But in time it will adapt and begin to look for its creator… and... I dare not speak of it. I would hate to have, ‘cause of death: killed by a half rabbit-half monkey’ on my gravestone. Its eyes boar deep into my soul, daring me to run. But I couldn’t, I was frozen with fear. If I had known the one thing that could kill me was my own creation, I would have become an author a long time ago and actually considered settling down. But I guess i'll go down in history for making… this, it may be negative thinking though given what it has done.“Thank you, you gave me life and a longer tail,” it spoke to me when it reached me, wait?!.. it can talk now. I just stood there, still frozen but not with fear, with confusion.“Nice to meet you, creator. I’m called Jeff but call me the easter bunny.”“You mean the ‘killer bunny’?” I asked as a joke. What a stupid thing to say.Its eyes shot red with anger and the last thing I remember was its fluffy hand reaching towards my skull."So, yeah that’s how I’m here. I was, in my past life, killed by the easter bunny. How about you?" He sat there, arms and legs crossed with a serious face, he wasnt joking. This was the man that created the monster that killed my family and then me a year later.

----- CHAPTER BREAK -----

Thunder roared through the clouds above, its echo crying in and out of the hallways and rooms of the abandoned school. Rain rattled windows, seeped in through cracks and flowed down the stairs. The memory of children running through the halls still lay among the dusty and lonely building. It was the perfect place to hide. Sirens sang through the town as villagers ran for cover as the rain fell faster. No one would look in the school. It had been abandoned years ago, unsafe for youngsters and the lacking of teachers made it useless. Desks and chairs, empty school bags and broken pens were still sat there, waiting to be collected or used. How they hadn't worn away or been stolen was unusual. But that wasn't important, they just needed to hide, stay hidden until it was safe for them to leave. People hated them, they had every right to. They were thieves after all. Stealing. Taking back what was truly theirs and being hunted for it. But they also weren't human, so there was always that. Creatures from space is what they had been called on the radio, extra terrestrial was what one human had said to them while pointing. They didn't come here for attention or name calling, they just wanted their home back. Space. Space is there home, they had owned it for centuries and they only wanted to be clear it was theirs and theirs alone.Humans wanted none of it, ignoring their thoughts so there was no other choice but to steal what was precious to them so they would listen.Had they known it was that important that the whole world would be looking for it and them, they would have never took it. Though now, it lay curled in a ball infront of them on the damp and cold school floor. Surrounded by five aliens, each with wide eyes at the strange creature infront of them. Small black eyes, fur coating it's face and hands, or paws, with big floppy ears which it used as pillows. It wasn't theirs, the one before it had been but this one was new and different. A baby.
