Magnus will admit to getting a little lost in the sensations that surround him when he kisses Alec. It’s nothing new and he hopes it never gets old. They are making out on the couch, leaning into each other, nothing too heated - Alec’s shoulder is still healing- just enjoying the moment. Or several moments. Time flies when you're having fun, the saying goes, and he is having a lot of fun. There is, in fact, nothing else he’d rather be doing. Until the doorbell rings. They pull back slowly, soft smiles on their lips, which turn into a frown on Alec’s. “Are we expecting someone,” he asks, slightly grumpily. Magnus gets it. He’d rather carry on with what they were doing too. He has to think for a second, his mind full of Alec. “Ah,” he says, finally. “That’s most likely—.” The doorbell rings again. “— a very impatient Madzie,” he finishes, giving Alec a quick peck on the lips before standing up. “You didn’t tell me you’d invited them!” Alec says, not quite a complaint, but a question in there. Magnus winks at him, then disappears to open the door, coming back with Catarina and a very giggly Madzie. Madzie rushes towards Alec, stopping by the couch when she sees his sling, her face going serious. He opens up his good arm for her. “It’s okay. We can do a side hug,” he says as she hesitates. Madzie jumps up and snuggles next to him. “Does it hurt?” she asks, concerned. “Not much,” Alec replies. “Only if I do certain movements.” “Hi, Alec!” Catarina says, leaning over to give him a peck on the cheek. “Have you started physio yet?” Alec smiles up at her. “Hi Cat. Next week. Then another week or two before I’m fit for work. Luckily I sit a lot so the requirements aren’t as strict.” Cat nods and starts telling him about some of the patients she has had with arm injuries and how lucky Alec is with his. Magnus listens with half an ear, just glad that Alec is recovering well. “Magnus, where’s Chairman?” Madzie chips in once she’s got tired of hearing about broken bones. “In our bedroom. You know he doesn’t like lots of people.” “Oh, yes,” Madzie says, hopping from one foot to the other. “Look, I can do bunny hops,” she cries, flapping her arms. “Aren’t they with two legs?” Magnus asks.  Madzie rolls her eyes. “Those are boring bunnies. My bunnies can go much faster. Look!” And she races off in circles around the room, before coming back and flopping dramatically onto her back on the floor. “I’m tired!” she exclaims. “When’s the cake, Magnus?” “Cake?” Alec asks, his attention having been pulled towards Madzie’s activities. “Madzie, it’s a secret!” Magnus whispers dramatically, putting a finger to his lips and grinning so that she knows he’s not cross. “Oh, I forgot,” Madzie whispers loudly back, then bites her bottom lip, frowning. “It’s okay, princess, I’m good at forgetting that I hear things,” Alec says, tickling her with his good arm. “In fact, I’m pretty sure you came here just to see me, didn’t you?” Madzie giggles. “You’re silly, Alec. Of course we came here to see you! But we also came because of a secret I can’t tell you.” “A secret, huh!” Alec says, pretending to pout. “Why am I left out of the secret?”  The doorbell goes again. “Because,” Magnus replies, heading for the door again, “it’s a surprise for you!” “For me?” Alec asks, looking with big eyes at Madzie. “Yes,” Madzie replies excitedly, jumping up and down on the couch.  Magnus walks back in, followed by Emma, both of them carrying big bags in each hand. “Ohhhh,” Madzie cries, her eyes growing large. She jumps off the couch, dancing up to Magnus, clapping her hands in excitement. “Can I see them?” “Patience, sweetheart,” Catarina says. “Let Magnus and Emma sort it out.” Madzie calms down a bit but still hovers around the two adults as they put the bags down on the dining table.  “Can you find us five plates, five forks and five glasses, please, Madzie?” “Four, will be enough, Magnus. I’ll not be tasting,” Emma says, looking up at him from where she is taking boxes out of the bags. “Four then, please, Madzie.” Madzie dances off to look for them. “Would you like something to drink, though, Emma?” Magnus asks, watching as Madzie looks for what’s needed. “I’m fine, thanks, Magnus,” Emma answers as she starts placing the cakes on the trays she has brought. Magnus looks over at Alec, who is watching intently. “Emma and I thought it best to progress with our cake testing by bringing it here. We might have luck on our side for once,” Magnus says, wryly. Alec huffs a laugh. “You could be right.” He gets up from the couch and walks over to the table, giving Magnus a quick kiss on the lips. “Thank you for being so thoughtful.” Magnus knows that he is referring to Alec’s anxiety related to getting in a car. He’s working on it, talking to a therapist, but the route to Emma’s does, for both of them, still bring back the trauma of that day. When Emma kindly offered to bring the cakes to them, Magnus jumped at the chance.  “In discussion with Magnus,” Emma begins, “There are now just four flavours to choose from: poppy seed and lemon, blueberry and almond, vanilla and strawberry, and finally, dark chocolate.” “Oohhhh,” Madzie cries again, licking her lips as she looks at the cakes. “What happened to the lemon meringue?” Catarina asks. “That’s one of your favourites, Magnus.” “We’ve already decided that’s going on the dessert menu. Emma is going to make that too,” Alec replies, smiling at Magnus. “Yes, indeed,” Emma says, nodding in agreement. “Now, down to business here. Which one do you want to start with?” she asks. Magnus gestures to Alec, who shakes his head. “I think Madzie can have the first choice,” he says, getting a cheer from the little girl. She studies the cakes, taking her role very seriously. “The dark chocolate, please Emma.” Emma distributes the cakes and one by one each cake is given scores on a sheet that Alec had created. At the end, they add up the scores to find out the best loved cake. “Drum roll, please!” Magnus says, holding the results close to his chest. Alec starts to tap on his thighs, Madzie quickly joining him.  “And the winner is…the vanilla and strawberry,” Magnus announces. “Hooray,” Madzie shouts. “That was my favourite.” “We’ll, that’s something to look forward to,” Catarina says, wiping a bit of frosting off Madzie’s cheek. Emma packs away all her things while they chat about the wedding preparations still to come. Magnus walks Emma to the door, after heartfelt thanks from Alec and a hug from Madzie. When Magnus comes back, Catarina looks at him, eyebrows slightly raised, getting a small nod in return. “And now, I think we should leave Alec to have a rest, while we go and do some shopping.” she says to her daughter. “What do you want for supper tonight?” Madzie pouts for a moment but then goes up to Alec and gives him a hug. “Can we have mac ‘n cheese, please?” she asks, looking at her mom. “Sure, hun,” Cat replies, then steps forward to give Alec a kiss on the cheek. Magnus moves towards the door, and Madzie flies after him.  “When are we going to choose my dress?” she asks him, wrapping her arms around his legs. Magnus crouches down to her eye level. “Very soon, sweetpea. Mom and I have to check our diaries and then we’ll let you know.” “Can I wear blue? I like blue the best.” Magnus looks across to Alec who nods. “How about blue and silver?” he replies, getting an enthusiastic shout from Madzie. It takes a few more minutes before Catarina and Madzie go, leaving the apartment in a calm silence. As Magnus walks back into the living room, Alec looks at him from his prone position on the couch. “You’ll make a great father one day,” he says, a soft look in his eyes. “You think so?” Magnus asks, a hint of doubt in his voice. “I know so,” Alec replies, making a grabby gesture. Magnus smiles and joins him on the sofa, lying partly over him, taking care not to put any weight on his poorly shoulder. Alec kisses him slowly and lovingly, and Magnus feels it right down to his toes. “And you won’t be doing it alone,” he murmurs against Magnus’s lips. Magnus hums, loosing himself once more in the sensations of kissing his fiancé. There is time enough to talk more about this. Right now he’s just immensely happy to have met this amazing man and to be building a life with him.
