He observed her from the armchair as one who consumed sight for nourishment. His eyes were drops of blood, reflecting light and absorbing life; ignoring the abandoned book on his lap. Elias wanted to devour her.
The clock ticked on the wall. He observed the hands snap, echo their constant tune, and illustrate the passage of time while the creature questioned its honesty.
His orbs strayed to the limit of his vision, spying on the scene by the door. The magus stood with a toothy smile, his hair the color of fertile soil in the summer complemented the shaded grass of his irises. By human standards, Henry Brown was handsome. He spoke to Chise with calm words, his arm moved as he drew his thoughts in the air and explored magical theories he was eager to share.
Elias would bask in the melody of the twig crack his breaking neck would emulate, the taste of his blood and mangled neck in the beast’s mouth a delicacy to be savored with patience and satisfaction.
His eyes shot forward, they fixated his focus on the rapid stalking of Silky as she moved from one chamber to the next, dedicated to the lunch preparations.
He recognized the burbling inside his chest, the impulse to wrap his tentacles around his puppy and squeeze her to his chest. “Jealousy” she had called it. He was jealous. Jealous and afraid. Afraid she would listen to the words of Henry, accept his
second
offer to join him, to learn from him. Accept his offer and
leave
.
Her voice vibrated in the air, quiet and kind in her words. The footsteps preceded the locking of the front door; the following pause stretched eternal in his chest.
Ruth passed to the kitchen his nails scratching the wooden floor, chasing after the promise of lunch. Chise paced after her familiar, her gait leaving possibilities open, the rhythm of her steps keeping secrets from the ancient magus.
He squeezed the wood of the armchair. His control faltering, Elias’ arm pounced and captured his apprentice’s wrist. She halted, and so did he. His thumb caressed her flesh, traced delicate bones while he calculated his words.
“Elias?” she prompted. The gentle turn of her head toward him allowed him time to digest the disarray of his emotions. “You heard it,” she said.
His shoulders were rigid as the bones composing his features, stone sat by time and tectonic plates to stand in place for centuries.
He encountered his robin exuding the uncertainty he had witnessed when she had been offered to learn from another. His organism responded as it had then, and he had to resist the urge to touch his hand to his stomach and cover his viscera as if it threatened to spill. As if his body would crumble.
“Yes,” he confessed. “He wants to teach you.”
“Hm,” she nodded, body turning to face him. She captured his hand and squeezed it.
“I don’t want you to go,” he confessed, orbs lowered to the carpet. “When I think of it, my stomach drops,” he met her eyes. “But I want you to learn, to grow into a greater mage. One better than I can make you. And I want to support you.”
Her responding smile warmed his entrails, and his heart eased when she sat on his leg. “I’m happy we can discuss this,” she said. “I want to learn, and I want to do it on my own,” she touched the side of his skull. “Even if I don’t appreciate being away from home.”
His throat bobbed, his eyes lowered, and he touched one of her thighs, the contact warmed her skin and lingered as the magus explored the phantoms haunting his mind. He rubbed his snout to her cheek. “May we be intimate?” he asked. “I’d like to feel connected to you. Would that be a problem?”
She absorbed his words, playing with their entwined digits. Heat colored her features pink and echoed through her bloodstream, it filled the lips she wet before answering. “I’d actually appreciate that very much.”
Elias adjusted his hold on her and stood with his bride in his arms. “Inform Ruth we may have a late lunch.”
She buried her face in the crook of his neck, nodding.
The bedroom door locked behind them.
Chise’s warmth and weight drove his thoughts to one of the concepts his bride had taught him:
comfort.
The contact allowed him to breathe, to fill his lungs, to pause the turmoil in his chest, and concentrate on both their presences. He nuzzled her cheek as if the gesture could imprint their scents on one another and tighten their bond. “I’m
proud
of you,” he whispered, the word new to his vocabulary, another of her teachings. “But I need this, this connection.”
She kissed plum skin, her thumb caressing his skull. “Emotions are confusing, complicated. They’re often conflicting.”
He sat on the mattress and maintained his arms wrapped around her. “I want to keep you inside me.”
She fingered the folds of his black robe, guiding it from his shoulders. “I could use the shortcuts to come home at night like we used for school.”
“Hmm…” He tipped his head and reached for the front of her sweater, he popped one button after the other. Leaning in, Elias savored her neck with his tongue, reveling in the tremor that shook her. “I still like having the role of your husband.”
Chise sighed, tilting her head to the side and allowing him further access. “It’s okay,” she whispered, removing her sweater and shirt. “I want you on it.” She gasped when he nibbled at her shoulder.
He pulled back and observed her and her exposed torso. The entity removed his gloves, and, with a single hand, he reached behind her and released her bra, dismissing it as one who waved off a fly. Her coral nipples stood tight, and he covered her breast with his hand, thumb teasing her nub. “Is he attractive? For a human?”
She touched her forehead to his shoulder, a breath leaving her mouth. “I’m not interested in him, Elias.”
“He would match you,” he muttered, inhaling her perfume, pinching her sensitive peak. He sensed her rubbing her thighs and digging her digits into the fabric of his undershirt.
“Matching forms aren’t that important to me,” she said. “He doesn’t make me feel like home.”
Elias guided her back to the mattress. Observing her, he captured her legs and drew each of them to his sides. His hands went to her shorts, working them off her. “How can you not be afraid?”
“Are
you
afraid? I’m not entirely human either,” she said. “Liking someone doesn’t have to be logical or physical.” She lifted her hips, allowing him to divest her of the remnant of her clothes. She observed him between her parted thighs. “I’m attracted to you, to what you do, to who you are. We built something special,
this
feels like home.” She extended her hands to undo the button of his pants, chewing on her bottom lip. Her cheeks flooded crimson when her hand brushed his length and found it rigid and inviting further contact.
He shifted, allowing his trousers to fall to the ground. Adjusting his position, the magus bid his time, relishing the sensation of her warm and moist folds against his erection. His hips responded almost on their own, rubbing against her, allowing his tip to brush on her clit. He closed his eyes, basking in the feeling and her words. “I feel something in my chest. Like I could live forever, like I’m bigger than I am. I’m
proud
.”
“You can be proud of yourself, yes,” she observed, narrowing her eyes at him and postponing a conversation on arrogance, jealousy, and pride. Her hands grabbed his hips, her tongue peeking from between her lips to wet them.
“I like your scent,” he whispered, a quiet growl echoing from his chest.
Chise whined. She reached between them, aligning his tip to her entrance, tugging at his side to encourage him to inch forward. Her nails rasped on his abdomen beneath his clothes, extending her touch as far as she could before leaning back down. Her eyes green as tropical birds focused on him, demanding attention to the needs of her sizzling body.
Elias watched her, entranced. He sank into her body to the limits of them both, filling her to completion, sensing the rings of her walls wrapped around him, the velvet and heat of her tempting him to spend the rest of his existence there. His mouth watered and his maw opened.
He tasted her neck and nibbled at her skin, exploring the salt of her skin and the magical sweetness of her pheromones of Sleigh Beggy.
With a heaving breath and trembling movements, she pulled at his undershirt. “Take the rest off,” she whimpered.
The creature hummed and popped button after button open. Unmoving and buried inside his naked wife, Elias oozed patience and pride. Yet the one hand he kept caressing her hip with and running up to stimulate her nipple spoke of a boiling desire that tested his resolve.
“Elias,” she sighed, wrapping her legs around him.
His body covered hers, the weight of him producing a whisper from her. “Your presence makes me warm, the sight of you makes me
happy
. I could speak to you about Wooly Bugs and it would still be special. In your presence, I want to be better and feel as if I could do anything.”
She wrapped her arms around his shoulder, smiling against his skin. “You remembered word for word,” she said.
“It felt important,” he said, “the definition of
love
.” He withdrew from her, allowing only the head of him to remain inside her warmth.
Chise gulped a sigh, nodding. “It is,” she said. “It’s attached to our roles as husband and wife. As long as it’s there, we can walk alongside one another, like we promised.”
His hum vibrated on his chest and spread through him, it moved his hands to her thighs and had his fingers squeezing her flesh. It drove him to slide back inside of her, delighting in the contact and the melody of them. His tongue snaked from his mouth, trailing her neck and shoulders, then slithering to her nipples. “Even if we’re apart?”
The young mage would have missed his words, drowning as she was in the chemistry, magic, and sensation of their coupling. “Yes,” she whispered between an answer and encouragement.
He breathed her in and set a pace to his movements, opting for a steady and deep rhythm. He’d take his time to enjoy her fluids and heat while refusing to leave a single inch out of her body for long. If he made it last and made her remember, perhaps their connection would be longer. Mating could be an act of love, she had taught him so. And love made them stronger, tighter.
Her hips met his thrusts, matched their tune. From his shadows, tentacles slithered out, they wrapped around her torso, captured her wrists and tied them over her head. Others were discreet when they seized her thighs and spread them further apart. His extra appendages and his tongue consumed her with each caress, devouring her shivers and vocalizations.
Flames washed Chise as if her figure was drenched in gasoline. Teeth grazed the skin of her neck, one hand held her hips, and his additional limbs enveloped her torso and rubbed against her flesh. When he drew back and lowered his eyes, she followed the track of his attention and found his plum length disappearing inside her, the squelching of their joining flooding her ears and thoughts. The vision fueled his strokes and her moans, his name slipping from her mouth.
The tremors that shook her and fought his hold revealed the faltering of his wife’s control, a perspective that had the magus twitching inside her. The length of him massaged her walls and the spongy mass high by her opening. His speed, picking up, agitated her and brought whimpers out of her lips, wrecking her companion’s control.
Elias, between pounding thrusts, swallowed the saliva that threatened to escape him. Wood cracked under his hold. With his long tongue, he tasted the skin between her breasts, nibbled at her nipples, and grunted when one of her legs urged him deeper. As with her magic, she was prone to pushing her limits.
He missed a thrust, slipping from her, earning a litany of Japanese words she never taught him. His erection rasping at her core, his movements blinded by desire.
Her arms escaped his hold and caressed his chest, her hand pausing to tease his nipple. Her palms ran over his back, her nails scratching in tender provocations. She drew him closer, rubbing her nose against his neck. Humming with each stroke, her other hand petted his side, tracing dark purple skin.
His tentacles teased her nipples and rubbed against her figure as if the mere contact with her flesh gave him pleasure. The contact overflooded her senses and she arched against him, chest against his.
“Inside,” she muttered, then followed with another string of words he couldn’t translate, his name lost among them. Her legs struggled against his hold. “Inside, Elias. Please,..”
He touched her cheek. “Patience, my Sleigh Beggy,” his hand aligned him to her entrance and he entered her, taking in her inhale and releasing her thighs from his hold. The magus adjusted his hold and experimented with his thrusts.
Her thighs caressed his sides, her scent flooding his nostrils, magic oozing off her. The flavor of the latter invaded and claimed his mouth, fogging his brain. The motions of his hips gained momentum and strength, the rumble coming from his chest spreading to his throat. “Chise,...”
She wrapped around him tight, locking him in.
“Not so tight, we’re not wearing protection,” he said.
She squeezed him, glazed over eyes closing. “It’s okay.”
Elias snapped to face her. “We don’t know what could happen.”
She held his gaze. “I’m okay with this, Elias,” she said.
“
Are you certain?
”
“Yes,” she said. “We’ve spoken of it, you know that.”
He nuzzled his maw to her cheek. “Any puppies of ours will be loved, my Robin, but I don’t want to do this if you’re not prepared for it.”
“I am.” She sighed as he restarted his motions.
His hips swayed, his teeth parted while his movements spread heat through them, his breath mixing with hers. The moving of her chest, the quietness of her voice, how she’d lick her lips.
Her walls squeezed him tight in their orgastic hold, incoherent noises coming out of her mouth. Elias hissed and clenched his jaw, his grip on his bride threatening to leave bruises before he spilled, painting her walls with his seed.
With a long exhale, he fell to the side, his arms quick to bring Chise to him and wrap around her. He nuzzled her hair and cheek. She kissed his skull.
Blinking, she slipped her hand between her folds. She spied the fingertips that touched wetness.
“Chise, if you’ve changed your mind,...”
“I’m okay,” she reassured. “Silky won’t be happy with us being this late.”
He hummed. “She’ll forgive us if we have puppies.”
Chise ran her hand over his arm, fingertips glided over his skin. “I’m not leaving you. It’s just magic lessons, like in college. We’ll always learn from each other, even if I’m someone else’s apprentice.”
“I know,” he said. “It’s still good to hear it, thank you.”
She rubbed her nose against his skull. “Of course.”
