Work Text
Mikey had started working as a journalist only a couple months prior to the night he was given his breakthrough story. After graduation, he’d done a stint at university, but it wasn’t his thing, and he’d decided to make a change. At first, he hadn’t known where to go from there, but after discussions with Gerard, they’d decided he should see what writing job he could land and go where it took him. When he was offered a staff position for a music magazine close to home, he pounced on the opportunity. Now he was on his way to what was supposedly Midtown’s last show. The band had posted a statement to MySpace that they were going separate ways, and lead singer and bassist, Gabe Saporta, had announced he was already planning a solo career. That was the subject of his interview, getting the inside scoop on the band’s next move.Mikey had been a fan of Midtown from their inception, and he’d seen Gabe on a number of occasions, though he doubted the singer would remember him. He almost hoped he wouldn’t so that it wouldn’t interrupt the interview. He arrived during the first opener, his journal and recorder tucked safely away in his bag. Mikey was never one to turn down a concert, especially a Midtown one, and he was a bit of a fan of their openers too. His interview wasn’t scheduled until after the show, so he figured he would do his own thing until then. And when Midtown finally took the stage, he screamed with the rest of the crowd. Gabe looked even better than he’d remembered. His hair was longer than the last time he’d seen him, curling around his sharp features. He was repping a ‘Saves the Day’ t-shirt which Mikey had to appreciate. After an hour of playing hit after hit, with Mikey getting happily bashed around in the pit, Gabe’s hair was slick against his forehead with sweat, and the group left the stage. Mikey made his way to the back of the room as the band refueled for their encore. He stopped and pulled out his journal, quickly jotting down notes about the excitement of the show. He noted a couple songs to mention before flipping to his questions for Gabe. As the band returned for their last two songs, he made his way to the side of the stage to await the band, his fingers sweating against the leather journal.Too soon, Midtown was over. He clapped with the rest of the crowd, grinning as they said their goodbyes. Then Gabe Saporta was walking in his direction.“Hey!” Mikey introduced himself, throwing his hand out to the man, “We talked earlier about an interview.” Gabe nodded and ushered for him to follow. They went into another room, likely the one the band prepared in earlier, and Gabe flopped onto the couch. “Sit, sit. Let’s get this out of the way.” He said not unkindly before chugging a bottle of water from the table.Mikey took a seat in a chair beside the man and flipped his journal open to his questions, starting with a few about the band’s decision to end things. He knew the fans, his readers, would want every detail. Gabe didn’t hesitate to explain what was clearly a sanitized version of the story. Mikey pushed for further detail, wanting to know what the relationship between the band members was like, as he had always assumed they were friends. Gabe, unfortunately, shut him down.“Next question,” Gabe said, and Mikey moved on to his next subject- Gabe’s next venture.“What is the plan? Should we expect a sound similar to Midtown? Or something entirely new?” Mikey asked. He was asking for the article, but as a Midtown fan, he was also excited to hear the answers.Gabe thought for a moment, “It’s going to be something new, and I can’t say everyone will like it, but I think a lot of fans will. I hope they stick around to hear it.” He returned Mikey’s grin. “I’ve already been messing around with some riffs, so I should have something out in no time once I get in the studio again.”They discussed more, Gabe filling in details where Mikey asked, until he felt he could turn it into an article he’d be proud of. After wrapping his work up and tucking it away, Mikey reached to shake hands and say his goodbyes.“So you’re a fan then, I take it?” Gabe asked, casual now that the interview was over, “Or well-researched, I suppose. Thanks for the interview, man. I’m seriously excited for this next chapter.”“You’re not too sad that Midtown is done with?” Mikey asked curiously.Gabe shrugged, “Of course, but all good things come to an end.”Mikey nodded in agreement.“Have we met before? I felt like I recognized you about halfway through that but I couldn’t place it.”Mikey nodded again, surprised to feel a bit giddy about being remembered, “I’ve been going to your shows since I was a teenager. You’ve probably seen me in the crowd or hanging around after the show. I’m also pretty involved in the music scene around here, so you might have seen me at other shows too. Great choice of openers, by the way. They were awesome. Almost as good as you guys.” Mikey couldn’t help but gush.“That’s definitely it. How could I forget a face like yours?” Gabe smirked.Mikey stifled a laugh, “Yeah, right.”Gabe frowned, “You don’t agree? I noticed you the minute I took the stage. I was like- who is that beautiful man screaming along front and center? And then I was lucky enough to get to talk to you about my future and see that you were actually interested in it. It has been quite a night.” He smiled slightly at Mikey, his head tilted just so.Mikey blushed. He hadn’t expected Gabe to show any interest in him, especially so forward. And when he had been so formal during their interview. Gabe was a professional when it mattered and a flirt otherwise. Mikey knew he hooked up with fans, as most bands in the scene did, but he hadn’t even thought about it going into the interview- too focused on impressing his boss.Gabe was watching him silently, a small smile still present on his face. “You don’t do this often, do you?”“What?” Mikey choked out.He smirked, “What do you think? You’re a smart boy. Yes or no?” Gabe whispered the last part, already leaning towards the other man. Mikey was red as he nodded eagerly. His bag fell to the floor as he jumped up to meet Gabe’s touch.Their lips met, and Gabe was tugging at his clothes instantly. His lips were soft and wet against his skin as Gabe kissed down his neck, sucking hungrily at his collarbone. He pulled Mikey’s shirt off with expertise and led the other man to the couch, throwing his own shirt off along the way. Mikey watched with dark eyes as Gabe fell to his knees, tugging his jeans open to reach his cock. With a grip on the base, he swallowed it down. Mikey’s grip was tight in his dark hair, and he moaned around the length. “Fuck, Mikey Way,” he groaned.“Yeah,” Mikey agreed. His core tensed as his climax closed in, sooner than he would have liked due to the long time since his last sexual encounter. He bit his lip to quiet his yelp as he came, his fingers tight in Gabe’s hair as the other man easily swallowed it.He leaned back with a pop, looking over Mikey with satisfaction. His lips were wet with spit and remnants of cum, but Mikey pulled him in for a harsh kiss. With a hand behind Gabe’s neck, he urged him onto the couch with him and unbuttoned his jeans. Gabe moaned as Mikey took him in his hand and began stroking the length. He was achingly hard and happy for the relief of the other man’s touch.Mikey sucked dark marks into his neck as he led the other boy to release. His teeth grazing over the hot skin and his tongue swirling over each part as Gabe spilled across his fingers.“Sorry about that,” Gabe said lazily. He rolled off Mikey to steal tissues for clean-up. Mikey wiped his hands and tidied himself. Gabe followed suit, tugging his shirt on and handing Mikey his.“Hope this part stays off the record,” he joked.Right. Mikey had been there for the interview. He had planned to enjoy the concert, finish his interview, and head home for a cozy night of writing. Instead, he had fallen for Gabe’s charm, as he was sure many other fans had.He was embarrassed that he’d lost his professionalism so easily and that Gabe was joking around like it had meant nothing. Was a blowjob worth the awkwardness that would ensue between them in the future interviews he had hoped to have with him?Mikey grabbed his bag and left with a muttered “Goodbye,” and Gabe let him go.—Mikey’s article earned him praise from both his boss and coworkers, and he enjoyed reading the comments from other Midtown fans. Many expressed disappointment and regret about the band ending, but there were comments hopeful about the futures of the members. He replied to them where possible, wanting to connect more with the scene. His mind still wandered to those last few minutes with the man, but he had mostly moved on, too busy with balancing work and his social life to worry about it, as he had realized it wasn’t a big deal anyway. His friends had slept with band members many times, and they still went to shows and partied afterwards like normal, and he would too.So he lept at the invite to a local Senses Fail show that his friends were attending. When they arrived, he split off to grab a drink from the bar. The floor was already sticky and his shoes stuck as he darted between people to order. After yelling his order to the bartender, he leaned against the bar to survey the crowd so far. The small venue was packed despite the opener just starting, and he knew he was in for a good time. He traded his cash for the overpriced alcohol and drank it quickly, ready to get into the pit.Mikey stopped in his tracks as a man settled beside him to order. The short man was wearing a worn Midtown tee, similar to one in Mikey’s own closet, though he’d opted not to wear it that night.“You like Midtown?” He yelled over the music. The guy nodded back, grinning a large smile. His eyes sparkled from the lights and Mikey couldn’t help but be struck by his beauty.“I do! You?” He yelled back.Mikey nodded, “Big fan! I was at their last show actually. It’s a shame they broke up.”“Right, man. They were killer. I’ve actually been helping Gabe with his new stuff. It’s coming along really well.”“You’re helping him?” Mikey asked curiously. The man nodded, “Yeah, I wrote a shit ton of Midtown’s lyrics. I’ve known Gabe forever, so we kind of brainstorm together.”“Well, shit. That’s cool. Are you in a band yourself?”He shrugged, “Nah, not currently. I’ve gone through a couple over the years. I’ve just been focusing on my writing recently, and helping Gabe in the meantime.”“You know, I write music occasionally too. With my brother. Do you think you could give it a listen? He’s been wanting to see if we could make the band a real thing, but I have no idea what it sounds like from an outside perspective.” Mikey said, “I’ll buy you a drink?”Pete laughed and held out his hand, “Sure, man. Give me your phone. I’ll put my number in and you can send something over sometime.” Mikey handed his phone over and watched the other man quickly add himself as a contact. “Pete Wentz,” the screen read when he returned it to Mikey.Pete started to speak again but paused when his eyes caught on something behind Mikey. Mikey turned to see what the deal was and was met with tall, handsome Gabe Saporta.Gabe smirked at him, waving lightly at the two men as he approached the bar.“There you are. I was starting to think you got lost out there,” Pete greeted him.Gabe shrugged, “I got caught up with something, you know how it is, man.” He turned to Mikey, throwing an arm over his shoulder. “Good to see you again, Mikey. I should’ve known we’d cross paths again.”Mikey was caught off guard by the friendliness of the greeting. They had talked for maybe half an hour and fooled around for even less. He wouldn’t say they were friends, but if Gabe was going to treat him as such, he wouldn’t argue, though he had to force down the initial contempt he felt at first seeing the man.Gabe was hailed by another friend of his and waved goodbye before disappearing into the crowd once more. Mikey watched him leave until his figure was disguised by the dancing bodies around them, and Pete scoffed.“Okay, what’s your deal?”“My what? Mikey returned.“I saw your face when Gabe came over. That was not the look of someone seeing a member of a band they like. You looked like you just smelled spoiled milk or something.” Pete raised an eyebrow curiously.Mikey shrugged, “It’s nothing.”Pete eyed him for a moment, “Fine. I’ll listen to your music if you buy me that drink and give Gabe another chance for however he’s wronged you. I don’t know what he did but knowing him, I’m not surprised.”Mikey bit his lip but nodded in agreement. This wasn’t a deal he could turn down. Gerard would be pissed. Pete sounded like he had a lot of experience with music, and it would be a great opportunity to get feedback from. Mikey wasn’t too invested in their band, just writing lyrics with Gerard and playing guitar as needed for demos, but he was interested to know if there was potential for a career for him outside of journalism. He’d really only chosen it since he had no other interests and had done well in his English and Creative Writing courses. “Deal. Order what you want.”Pete ordered them each a drink and tipped his head in thanks as Mikey paid. The taller man chugged his drink like water and glanced at the contact still visible on his phone screen.“Remember our deal. I won’t give you shit until you make an effort with Gabe,” warned Pete. Mikey rolled his eyes.“I know, I know. Here, watch,” he said, a bit slurred. Mikey abandoned the bar, forcing Pete to trail behind him as he wound his way towards the stage where he figured Gabe had disappeared earlier. He was correct, finding Gabe dancing under the bright lights, his face red from the heat but smiling an aching grin like this was all he could want.“Gabe,” Mikey yelled. Gabe glanced over and pulled Pete into a hug when he saw him.“Finally joined the party?” Gabe teased.Mikey nodded. He glanced at Pete to make sure he was watching before pulling Gabe into a kiss, just slow enough for him to object if he needed to. Gabe met him eagerly, his breath hot and his lips tasting of alcohol. His hands fell to Mikey’s waist and gripped tightly as Mikey’s tongue slid past his lips.Mikey ended the kiss, forcing Gabe’s head back with a hand twisted in his hair, eliciting a surprised moan from the other man.“That work?” Mikey asked Pete before strutting off, leaving a befuddled and horny Gabe behind.—Mikey slept in late the next morning and awoke to a pounding headache. After his encounter with Gabe, he’d finished the night with a couple more drinks and some drunken cigarettes. It had been a good idea at the time but he regretted it now. He rolled out of his twin bed, his feet twisting in the sheets causing him to crash to the floor.“Still drunk?” Gerard yelled from the other room. The two brothers had moved into an apartment after Mikey’s high school graduation and lived together ever since. He knew most brothers wouldn’t enjoy their sibling’s constant companionship, especially when it came to relationships, but he and Gerard had always had a strong connection. And neither of them really dated, so it’s not like they had anyone else to live with.“I’m good,” Mikey yawned as he joined his brother in the kitchen. “Just had a long night.”Gerard handed him a coffee, the mug matching his own.“I met this guy who said he’d listen to one of our demos, if you want. Apparently he’s worked with Midtown and some other bands.”Gerard raised an eyebrow, “Really? What’s his name?”“Uh, Pete Wentz. I think. He gave me his number.”Gerard set his mug down suddenly, a splash of coffee hitting the counter beside it. “Pete Wentz? Mikey, even I’ve heard of him, you haven’t?” He frowned at the spill and cleaned it up with one of their already-stained kitchen towels. Mikey shrugged to convey his cluelessness. “He’s a musician, been in a few bands but he’s from, like, Chicago. I’m pretty sure we went to one of his concerts. Probably Arma Angelus? It was a few years back.”“No shit?” Mikey replied. He tried to think back to that concert, but he couldn’t remember what they’d looked like. “I’ll have to ask him about that later. But anyways, just let me know what you want to have him look at.” Gerard nodded, already thinking about the options. They had written a number of songs but only recorded a handful, which were pretty informal as they didn’t have a studio to use. They also lacked official band members which meant Gerard had to track down fellow university students looking to make a few bucks.Mikey pulled open the contact from the night before and tapped out a short text so Pete would have his number. Gerard left for work, so Mikey made himself comfortable on the couch with a plan to enjoy a few hours of television and possibly work on some editing. His phone buzzed, and the screen lit up with “Pete Wentz” across the top. Mikey stared at it in surprise before realizing he should answer it.“Hey,” he answered, clearing his throat.“Hey,” a voice that was not Pete’s replied, “We didn’t get a chance to talk much last night. Though I appreciated the kiss.” Mikey could hear the smirk in Gabe’s voice.“What’re you doing with Pete’s phone?”“We’re hanging out. I expressed my great disappointment at not getting to say goodbye so he let me call you,” he snickered, “Nah, he’s just in the kitchen and I saw your text. I wanted to see what was up. Not that I minded the kiss, I was just surprised you left after. Again, I guess.”“It was nothing. I was just drunk and you were there,” Mikey lied.“Uh-huh,” Gabe said, obviously not believing him, “Well, anyways. I was thinking maybe we could hang out and get a drink or something. Or we could jam, Pete mentioned you were in a band?”Mikey considered it. He didn’t have much else to do, and he had promised Pete he would talk to Gabe. “Sure,” he agreed, “Let me clean up and you can come over. It’s my day off so there is no way I’m leaving this house.”Gabe laughed, “Sounds good, I’ll see you then.” After hanging up, Gabe texted from his own phone and Mikey sent over his address. He took a short shower and threw on a set of clothes that seemed clean enough. After an attempt at fixing his hair, he gave up and threw a beanie over the half-dry bird’s nest. He was shoving the last of his and Gerard’s old food wrappers into their already overstuffed trash bin when a knock rang out through the room.“Coming!” Mikey yelled, glancing over the room as he strode to the front door. It wasn’t much better, but it would do. The kitchen was mostly free of dirty dishes, and the floors were bare of worn clothes, but he couldn’t fix the old stains in their couch or the smell of cigarettes from the two brothers.Gabe grinned when he opened the door and handed over a bottle of vodka. Tucked under his arm was a 4-pack of Redbull, he had a guitar case slung over his shoulder. “Hey.” Mikey invited him in and motioned Gabe into the living room. Grabbing two glasses, he joined the man. Never too early for a drink, right? As Gabe cracked the cans open and mixed their drinks, Mikey stole his heavily-stickered guitar case and popped it open. Inside, a familiar bass gleamed red. It was the one he’d seen Gabe perform with many times. As he looked it over, he noted light scratches showing its age, and the strap was fraying from years of use. He ran his finger over the loose threads before plucking a string, eliciting a quiet note.“You like?” Gabe asked as he sipped his drink. Mikey accepted the other glass with thanks.“It’s beautiful,” Mikey said, picking up the instrument. He plugged it into an amp and hooked the strap over his shoulder. Deep notes resounded through the room as he plucked a simple tune.“You play bass?”“Yeah, I just picked it up actually. For my brother and I’s band,” Mikey said as he continued his song. “You know what they say, bassists are the sexiest band members.” Mikey smirked, glancing at Gabe.Gabe returned the smile. “You don’t need the bass for that.” He swirled his glass absentmindedly as he watched Mikey blush. After the final note faded, Mikey handed the guitar back and left the room, returning with his own bass. It was a faded red and white, reminiscent of Gabe’s though he hadn’t planned it that way. He had found it at a pawn shop a few months ago, and it was the best option they had. He didn’t know much about instruments, only that he needed something cheap for the time being, until he saved enough from writing to commit to a nicer bass. The men messed around for what felt like hours, brainstorming bass lines and potential lyrics. Mikey pulled out one of his notebooks and flipped through until he found the page he wanted. He handed the small book to Gabe, who scanned the page briefly before starting to hum. Mikey watched with interest as Gabe tried out different melodies before beginning to sing the lyrics. His voice was a bit scratchy from the alcohol, and his screaming at last night’s concert certainly didn’t help, but Mikey was enthralled. He always admired the way Gabe lit up when he performed, and it didn’t change when he was off stage. Gabe bobbed his head as he started what Mikey thought could be the chorus, and Mikey hummed along. He wasn’t a singer himself, but Gabe’s presence was addicting.“That’s not bad,” Gabe said, handing the journal back. “You’re a great writer. I don’t think I’ve told you that. I actually read your article when you first posted it. I think it portrayed the band and I very well. I kind of ended up stalking your other work too.” Gabe had the decency to look embarrassed at the admission.“Thanks, that means a lot,” replied Mikey with a small smile, “Y’know, coming from you and all.” He removed his bass and leaned it against the wall.“What does that mean?” Gabe teased. He followed suit and started putting his bass away, the locks clicking loudly in the now-quiet room.Mikey shrugged, hiding a half-smile, “Just that you’re a good musician. Your opinion holds a lot of weight.”Gabe grinned, cocking his head at the other man, “You’re such a fan, Mikey Way. I love it. It feeds my ego.” He settled into the couch, now relieved of his instrument. “You have a lot of talent yourself. And with those looks, the fans will love you.” Mikey rolled his eyes. “You don’t believe me?” Gabe asked.“I’m pretty average, Gabe, though I appreciate your compliments.”“No way, dude. You’re literally insanely hot. I said it before and I’ll say it again,” Gabe assured, “Meeting you and finding out you’re not just hot but also a serious writer and a budding musician? It’s pretty cool.”“You probably say that to all your flings.”Gabe frowned, “I don’t. And is that what you think of me as? I was kind of thinking we could be friends, but if it’s too weird, I can go.”Mikey shook his head quickly, “No, don’t go. That’s not what I meant.”Gabe eyed him mischievously, “So you do just want my body?”Mikey smacked him playfully, “Oh, shut up.”“Make me.”They met in the middle, lips clashing eagerly, drinks and music all but forgotten. Gabe’s hands snaked over Mikey’s lap, landing at his waist and pulling the other man into a straddle. Mikey’s thighs were firm against his, and his body was hot under his fingertips as they traced up Mikey’s back. Mikey pushed against him, and he ran his hands through Gabe’s hair.“Need you, Mikey,” Gabe whispered against his lips. Mikey nodded, breaking the kiss to drop to his knees between the other man’s long legs. He ran his fingers over the jean material, watching Gabe. Gabe touched his face gently, giving him a soft smile, and Mikey leaned into the touch briefly before undoing the tight jeans. He nuzzled the dark fabric of Gabe’s boxers, the length hard against his cheek.Mikey removed the member and stroked it firmly, savoring each sound from Gabe’s lips. They were sighs and guttural moans, begging for more. Gabe watched him with want evident in his stare, and Mikey finally swallowed him.Gabe pushed against him, but Mikey held him firm against the couch. The length was hot and heavy against his tongue, and there was a slight taste of salt Mikey kind of liked. He felt his erection straining against his jeans and whined in need of relief.“I’ll take care of you,” he moaned. Mikey would have smiled if he wasn’t preoccupied. Gabe’s cock slid against the roof of his mouth and he felt the hot cum hit his throat as Gabe came, his body tense under him. He pulled away, licking his lips, when he felt Gabe was done and had only a moment to spare before Gabe was pulling him back onto the couch. He kissed him before crawling into the spot Mikey had been. He palmed Mikey’s erection as he sucked at the other man’s neck.“Please, Gabe.”Gabe shushed him and kissed his lips once more before unbuttoning his pants and taking it as Mikey had. He pumped the length as his lips enveloped the head. He sucked at it eagerly and licked up the length. He took the length further, and Mikey came quickly.Gabe swallowed it easily and rejoined him on the couch. “Friends?”Mikey rolled his eyes and kissed him again. “Friends.”
