N looked up towards Uzi, her visor displaying “die mad.” Wait, no.. she didn’t mean..
N spread his wings, using his blade to stabilize himself as Uzi had cut off one of his legs using her solver.
But before he could do anything, he was flung out of the cathedral by Uzi. N just laid there for a moment, still processing what had just happened as his leg regenerated. He felt weirdly numb, almost as if he was feeling nothing at all.
Then he quickly sat up and tried to run back into the cathedral, a sense of panic rushing through him. But then a giant beam of yellow light blast through the top of the cathedral, temporarily blinding him.
When his vision returned, he burst open the doors of the cathedral to find.. nothing. Uzi was gone.
N sank to his knees, an unbelievable wave of sadness washing over him. Uzi was gone. And so was V. And Tessa too, she had been dead the entire time.
Had he really been that stupid to not realize that she had been Cyn the entire time? Maybe J was right, he was useless. He could’ve done something, if he’d just realized sooner then maybe Uzi wouldn’t be gone. If he’d realized any sooner then maybe Uzi wouldn’t have had to sacrifice herself to save him.
Why did everyone sacrifice themselves for him? First V, now Uzi. Why him? He wasn’t anything special, just a useless disassembly drone like J had always said. One who couldn’t provide any use to their team. One who couldn’t keep the people closest to him safe.
Then the tears started spilling, as a choked sob threatened to escape his lips. Every little bit of value in his life had been taken away from him in the span of just a few hours. For the first time ever since he became a disassembly drone he’d felt like he’d had people who truly cared about him. Sure V was mean from time to time, but she still cared about him. She sacrificed herself for him.
And Uzi was the one who’d shown him a better way of living. One that didn’t involve murdering innocent drones and being called useless all the time.
N hiccuped a bit, breathing starting to become difficult with how hard he was trying not to make any noise. It was almost like he shouldn’t cry. J would tell him how weak he was for crying. A disassembly drone shouldn’t cry, a disassembly drone was meant to do their job, follow the orders they were given, not cry. Crying made you weak.
N let a small sob through, no matter how much he hated it. He really hated crying. He hated being upset.
He grasped his coat with one of his hands, shaking a little bit. The tears wouldn’t stop, why couldn’t they stop? Why couldn’t he get the image of V and Uzi out of his mind?
Another sob came through, then another, and then N just couldn’t hold it back anymore. He was full on breaking down on the cathedral floor, grasping his coat so tight it was nearly choking him.
How could he have been so stupid? Why couldn’t everything had just gone fine? This was his fault wasn’t it? Uzi and V had sacrificed themselves for him. If it weren’t for him they’d still be alive right now.
This is all his fault.
